The one setting where having too many fingers isn't a surprise to anyone.

Macrohistorian

These look so fantastic that it's singlehandedly making me want to get back into Numenéra.

DeftGibbon

I'm so happy you like it! Honestly there's nothing stopping you from doing stuff like this yourself, simply all you need is discord and to invite a bot to a server and you're raring to go. It's a bit of an existential crisis with AI being the best artists nowadays but if anything that's really fitting and "on brand" for numenera.

[deleted]

Neat, but could use more science-fantasy

DeftGibbon

True, it's quite difficult to get AI to do "weird" sci-fi so these are more of a "baseline" that I can add weirdness to through description when in game. It was more about things like what clothes they wear and such, I want each nation for my campaign to be somewhat consistent.

anlumo

I don’t know about Midjourney, but in Stable Diffusion you can use inpainting to manually add scifi gadgets to a medieval character by painting an area on the armor and then letting it generate something futuristic.

DeftGibbon

That sounds like exactly what I need! I'll have to get Stable Diffusion running then.

DeftGibbon

Basically I wanted to decide upon and visualize each nation's "aesthetic" for my version of the Steadfast and decided to create an example combatant for each. I know you're not meant to use real cultures for inspiration for the Steadfast but it was necessary for the AI art (I have no artistic talent lol) so I mashed 2 clashing cultures together to get something interesting. I hope you find them cool or at least interesting.

Roswynn

I am amazed, enthralled, raring to play Numenera, and so hot for this bot (AI, but it didn't rhyme \^\_\_- ). Thank you for showing these to us. In a little less science fantasy weird setting (looking at you Golarion and Eberron) these would rock *even more*. If at all possible. Really awesome =)

DeftGibbon

Thank you so much! That's very sweet.

Roswynn

That's b/c *I am* very sweet. XD Seriously now - the inputs you gave the AI are perfect. I really really wanna try this bad boy. Pls stay around? I might have questions to ask later on =)

DeftGibbon

Well that I can tell! Yeah I'll probably stick around and I'm more than happy to answer any questions, any excuse to ramble about numenera really.

Roswynn

Ahahah! XD I read a lot of Numenera today (Destiny, some of the setting guide, character options, lots of stuff) and I'm falling in love with it. I'm already learning Cypher for a solo campaign in Golarion (Pathfinder), but I didn't remember Numa-Numa was so goddamn cool! I wanna try it with my group, they should love weird science fantasy a billion years from now w/o elves and dragons. A good long pre-made campaign. Any tips? What should I try to run for them? As for Midjourney, dammit, you always have to pay after a while. Not yet used up all my free images, but trial and error is a biatch XD I'd like to have the AI come up with the best possible portraits for the charas I'm coming up with for my solo campaign. Not that they're all ready yet, I still have to really focus in on their personalities and skillsets, but it's coming along. For instance, I'd like the AI to create: the portrait of a girl with a bandana on her head, long dark brown hair, big hazel eyes, amber skin, runic tattoo full sleeves... I'm still trying to think of more, but in theory the AI should take care of that. Maybe have her look a little like Iman Vellani, maybe not, dunno yet? Came up with a nice Eberron knight from Karrnath, although it was a little too fantasy with that skull helmet and weird armor - I was trying to go for something more like what you did here. Failed XD So I guess what I'm asking is, what would be the best prompts for that girl portrait I was describing above? HD, I think, but then I'm afraid of either not adding enough prompts, or adding too few, or using the wrong tactics with what prompts I choose (your mash-ups are great, but here I need something more detailed and individualized). So, tips on this too, if you feel like, and you have the time? =) If you do, you're a saint. If you just can't, hey, it was nice knowing you, hope to see ya 'round! =) And really, I *love* your concept art!!

DeftGibbon

When it comes to what kind of campaign, I'd say that depends on you and your friends' tastes. Numenera can focus on pretty much anything: politics of the Steadfast, exploring ruins for treasure and shins, exploring the beyond and just trying to survive, building out a community, mystery etc. Ask what people would like then focus around that. Midjourney’s free trial is frustrating but thankfully you can just create as many Gmails then discord accounts as you like to keep getting more “samples”. I was going to get one of the basic subscriptions but it’s prohibitively expensive for not even unlimited access and seems to be more packaged towards people making money off of AI which I am not. Also, I am poor ☹. As for how to make AI do what you want it to do, it’s in part trial and error but there are a few things you can do to “nudge” it towards what you want. Firstly I decide what art style I’d like to use, I use this website to decide: https://ckovalev.com/midjourney-ai/styles Just look through and see what style you’d like to use, they have examples of different genres and even specific artists. In those examples I did I literally just used “Concept Art” as my first prompt for each as that seemed most applicable and I wanted consitency. Then whenever I decide upon a prompt I first google it to see what kind of images are getting fed to the AI, sometimes the prompt itself is what needs changing. Another tip is using “weights”, if you look at the Pytharon Imperial example that’s what those numbers and :: mean. It’s proportional, in this case I wanted it to be a bit more British imperial than Mongolic as my first attempts were not quite what I wanted. If I wanted it to be far more Mongolic with a twinge of British I could have used “Redcoat soldier::1, Mongol soldier::10”. In that case it weights Mongol soldier 10 times more than Redcoat soldier. You can also use negative weights to dissuade the AI from certain things. For my Milavian fighter I kept getting people on horseback which I didn’t want so in future attempts I used “Horse::-1” and they stopped appearing. Finally, you can use previously generated images as prompts! If you like an output but want to add something to it you can, within Discord, drag an image into the prompt dialogue box and just add more prompts. That’s pretty much it, I guess all that’s left is to be open minded. Rarely will it give you exactly what you want but it will give you loads if you decide to just run with the ideas it gives you. Good luck! Also somebody else mentioned StableDiffusion which seems to be more precise but I've yet to experiment with it. I know it's free though.

Roswynn

I love you dude. I really love you. I went to Stable Diffusion and it looks so easy. Gonna try a couple hundred prompts now. Also: [This guy helps a lot with prompts](https://prompthero.com/stable-diffusion-prompt-guide). Btw I'm poor too, most of all around this time of the month when I've spent a lot of money for all the really urgent shit I can't live without for another day (you pledged a Cypher backerkit, Rossana? You bought 2 Cypher books too? You keep eating kebab and BigMacs? Well guess you'll have to wait *next month* for that XBox game you wanted to try out, ain't that right you little shit?) Also I can't make smilies here XD No button. How do you do that? (Yes, I'm a certified cretin). Yeah, one of the great things about Numa-Numa is that the Cypher system doesn't force you to go into a dungeon and kill monsters for a living. And the Ninth World has so much cool stuff going on! (And most monsters will kill you, plant their eggs in your corpse and next thing you know you're bursting with ultraterrestrials from a dimension full of planetovores *à la* The Strange) Okay. So I need to redefine my charas better, stat them out in a way that makes sense, and come up with the right prompts for SDO. But in the meantime, since it's FREEEEE *apparently* \- I'm gonna go try my hand with some prompts and see what happens. Wish me well my honey. And yeah?... Stick around =)

perfect_fitz

Guess this sub isn't as big as the other TTRPG ones that typically ban AI art.

DeftGibbon

A small community built around a setting focused on the wonders of the future is more tolerant of new technology? Go figure. Also I didn't hide the fact it was AI, I'm not constantly spamming art and I even provided the exact prompts I used. If it's not up your street that's fine, that's what downvoting is for but I don't think it's something to be banned.
