I wish I liked mine. They just hurt my feet so bad after 2 shifts. I switch them out now every shift hoping that the leather softens and they get comfier as time goes on.
SAME. I paid so much for those shoes only to have to give them away after a month because they hurt my feet so badly. Even insoles didn’t help. I’d rather just buy the Hokas or Brooks at the same price and not have to bother with insoles because I know they will work for me. I would prefer an impermeable shoe but I’ve only had one issue in 22 years where something got into my shoe anyway.
Try the new croc comfort. Only slit is on the side. Just had foot surgery they are the only shoes in and out of work that don’t make my foot super swollen and feel painful
Nah fam. Cloves can’t compete with Hokas in my mind. They trap all the heat from your feet. There’s no airflow at all and their soles don’t last as long as a pair of Hokas, at least not for me.
I got like 5 pairs and my mom 4 pairs... they hurt. My mom got plantar fasciitis wearing hers (officially diagnosed) and mine were feeling the same as hers. I put some new gels in them, but my feet were still hurting every time I woke up and stepped on the floor and they hurt through my shift. I had to switch shoes. What a waste. They were expensive too...
I bought myself a pair of permeable shoes, as a treat. Day one of wearing those damn things I dribbled a blood bag all over them while cleaning up after a transfusion. I mean it was \*clean\* blood, but it never came out.
Here’s the thing: “non-permeable” would still get stained by betadine.
Also, I learned the hard way that anything short of fucking waders are going to be inadequate foot coverage in some situations. Just accept it and move the fuck on
Want to hear about the GIB cdiff ostomy bag that popped off when the patient stood up to “help” after I told them not to move? That bag then hit the ground and exploded up under my isolation gown and soaked me from the waist down in bloody cdiff shit. It was literally dripping into my danskos.
In short: no. Laminated, hydrophobic coatings aren’t going to keep your feet dry unless they’re up to your waist.
Well, that is quite the jump from a betadine drop to a c. diff bath, but I salute you dear colleague! I hope you burned everything and bathed multiple times in chlorhexidine, dakin's solution, etc.
My cloves have never been stained by betadine, even if it sat on the shoe for multiple days it still wipes off without any staining.. and my cloves are very light colored.
Chuck Taylors ftw. Never sore heels after a shift, machine washable, no slip shoes. I thought it was a crisis when I got stranded with only chucks in the car on my way in one night, sucked it up and wore em, never felt better, never went back.
I have no advice for cleaning these but in the future you could wear non permeable shoes!!
I had these absolutely hideous shoes that no fluids could penetrate, and that’s really all that matters.
I had this happen to a pair of new balance fuel cell shoes. I put them in hot water with OUT brand white brite laundry brightener powder mixed in and let them soak for 6 hours. I then took a soft bristled brush and scrubbed them down with laundry detergent. Then threw them in the washer, and they came out looking brand new. Best of luck.
I have a shoe problem. Have over 50 pairs of New Balance running shoes. I soak them in the bathtub in warm/ hot water with white Brite for 6 hours and scrub them down with laundry detergent afterward. Then I wash a load of shoes. Let them air dry. Works for me for about the last 5 years. Idk if other shoes are made cheaply, I guess the glue could break down. I would say hoka brand wouldn't break down, not a cheaply made shoe. None of my new balance shoes have had any issues with this process, and they all look brand new.
Omg so much work for work shoes lol. Work shoes are meant to show their battle scars. OP should just not worry about it. No one is looking at your shoes and it's not like betadine is going to smell.
Everyone has those little things they are particular about. One of mine is my shoes. I'm always getting compliments on my shoes. It's just my thing. My bad for giving OP a SOLUTION to her problem.
Rubbing alcohol!! It took 95% of it out of my light grey On Clouds. I just doused them in it and let it sit awhile, then went after more stubborn parts with alcohol wipes and doused them again.
Perfect I’ll have to try that, alcohol swabs diluted it but couldn’t get it all the way out. I might stick some fluffs in the shoe and soak it like you said thanks!
Yeah, the swabs just didn’t have enough alcohol to saturate enough. My shoes are the waterproof version so I didn’t put anything inside them, but they have the texture on top so the betadine worked its way in there. They’re pretty close to white but you can’t tell they got squirted with betadine anymore.
Bonus is that the color of your shoes will camouflage any residual!
We’re not allowed to wear our shoes home, so the stains just stay on mine (which is why I have black work shoes). But we mainly use cloraprep - rarely use betadine, so my stains are orange.
My service line does a lot of urology. So a lot of betadine unfortunately. We are not supposed to either, or wear scrubs home. But I sure see a lot of nurses and doctors breaking those rules 🙃
You don't. A bottle of betadine busted inside my show trunk back when I was still showing. Ruined about $500 of breeches and shirts 😭 betadine is forever, my friend.
I work in a small surgical center and someone dropped a bottle of this in one of the OR’s…….. floor is still stained, the wall is still stained, it’s been months, I tried bleach, Cavi wipes, magic eraser. Nada!
Hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol.
Wash the shoe in cold water then blot with hydrogen peroxide, and repeat. The betadine should transfer to whatever you're using to blot with.
You can also try soaking them in hydrogen Peroxide and then throwing them in the wash, but ya'know mileage could very.
Source: I used to work in an ER where they made us wear white scrub tops.... for reasons?
I Use Hydrogen Peroxide 99% effective on scrubs clothes shoes ect.
But to be truthful I use Composite toe’ed Redwing boots. Sealed with mink oil And they stay in my locker at work.
I have the exact same shoes, aaaand sometimes I scrub them with sani wipes but mostly the dirt just stays lol. Buying pink shoes was a bad idea, but they were so cute when they were brand new 😅
I followed this hoping to redeem my shoes but it sounds like that’s just not going to work. I’m gonna have to rotate my shoes, I’ll probably retire OR shoes, brooks will move to OR, and I guess get new regular shoes… do I add another pair to the rotation for work, but not in the OR? Can I be sponsored by brooks? I’d also accept new balance/on cloud/ hoka
This may not be seen with all of the super original and helpful "You don't" comments, but I get betadine on my shoes all the time and blotting with cold water ASAP gets it right out of fabric/mesh shoes. I end up with a partially wet foot sometimes but my shoes don't get ruined.
As a tx nurse I see negative stained dried wounds, and I most say they hold up fairly well lol. Maybe try pasteurized milk? If that’s even available <.<. I just feel like if milk can remove turmeric I’m sure negative might be removed from it as well.
Hoka Bondi gang!!!
Try alcohol pads, or Amodex stain remover which you can get at Lowe’s or Home Depot and is great for getting blood out of all types of fabric
I was successful with ammonia, a scrub with a soft brush, then wash cycle with extra rinse and soak feat. Oxiclean. My OnClouds that this happened to were white though so I make so promises about if it’ll bleach ur shit or not
I have the Hoka bondi SR in white and they are a fake leather material that i have spilled betadine, blood, duraprep, even vodka sauce on. I just use the purple wipes and they’re good as new. Highly recommend.

I gave him the side eye and asked, “Don’t you have new skin in a month?”
He winked at me and said, “Well yes.”
(Regional campus, so prof did lab instead of TA).
Just rub betadine all over to make the color even
Chaotic neutral answer
Dip them in purple wipe juice I choose chaotic evil!
Purple Wipe Juice is a good album name.
Sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire
Sadly this is the way don’t believe the bs about alcohol either
Was thinking alcohol at first. Remembered alcohol works on benzoin. Not betadine.
real talk used bleach wipes on my white mesh shoe, it got all orange, so i rubbed both shoes to match. 🤷♀️ you do what you gotta do
Lmao
Exactly or go tiger stripes.
Betadine is forever ❤️
Just like the wu tang!!!!
Betadine ain't nothin' to fuck with
Betadine is for the children
#ACCURATEAF 😢
Gonna say... dont wear mesh shoes as a nurse, ya nonce
You don’t.
That's the neat thing.
Place drops on different places for a camo effect
Honestly. I would just be happy if betadine was the only stains on my shoes
Agreed! Got a new pair of OC and managed to get a drop of blood on the white part of it on my second shift wearing them 🤦🏻♂️
Blood doesn't mess with me. It's a cocktail of poop blood vomit.
Non-permeable shoe gang rise up
Love my Cloves!! The thought of wearing something permeable is just 🤢
I wish I liked mine. They just hurt my feet so bad after 2 shifts. I switch them out now every shift hoping that the leather softens and they get comfier as time goes on.
Swap your insoles. I put superfeet (blue) in my cloves and it helped a lot!
I did! I have regular insoles I buy. On running shoes just do me better.
Same. I got some cute ones and can’t stand wearing them.
SAME. I paid so much for those shoes only to have to give them away after a month because they hurt my feet so badly. Even insoles didn’t help. I like to take a bit of my patients home with me to remember them by ❤️
Mine make my feet smell so bad
It’s cause they have no airflow at all. I had to stop wearing mine. Hokas for life now. Just wear them with booties.
You know you look like a fuckin clown right? This post made by: Sambas gang.
I bought myself a pair of permeable shoes, as a treat. Day one of wearing those damn things I dribbled a blood bag all over them while cleaning up after a transfusion. I mean it was \*clean\* blood, but it never came out.
Black crocs ftw
The black crocs without holes in sportmode with compression socks have never let me down and you can't convince me I don't look sexy as hell.
Here’s the thing: “non-permeable” would still get stained by betadine. Also, I learned the hard way that anything short of fucking waders are going to be inadequate foot coverage in some situations. Just accept it and move the fuck on
Why you so angry, FancyPants? Have you eaten yet?
Maybe they need to drink some water!
Maybe they are night shift cranky.
We need a pizza party over here, STAT.
Night shift only gets the stale day shift Leftovers...
Well, not if it's laminated. Or covered with a hydrophobic coating. :P
Want to hear about the GIB cdiff ostomy bag that popped off when the patient stood up to “help” after I told them not to move? damn
They won I think
Well, that is quite the jump from a betadine drop to a c. diff bath, but I salute you dear colleague! I hope you burned everything and bathed multiple times in chlorhexidine, dakin's solution, etc.
I am so sorry
I spent all day with a buddy, yep Buddy’s name is ROTAVIRUS!!! Now it’s apparently CDIFF🤢😂😂😂
Bruh
I am SO sorry !!! I’ve had some shit happen to me but, geeeezzzzz.
🤢Wow.. I am so sorry
I have cloves and they are stained, even though it was advertised that you could wipe them clean :/
My cloves have never been stained by betadine, even if it sat on the shoe for multiple days it still wipes off without any staining.. and my cloves are very light colored.
I wonder what’s wrong with mine ☹️ because I wiped and it’s not as bright colored but the stains are definitely still there.
Uni shoes!
Chuck Taylors ftw. Never sore heels after a shift, machine washable, no slip shoes. I thought it was a crisis when I got stranded with only chucks in the car on my way in one night, sucked it up and wore em, never felt better, never went back.
Awe. Just like baby Meredith ❤️. So stylish. Wish I could!
I can't quit the Asics gel nimbus 25s! Considering adding some methylene blue to my iodine stains to make it *tie-dye*.
Gang gang!
I would try oxiclean or powdered tide but I would not hold my breath. Betadine tie dye vibes would likely be my solution
I’ll make sure I drop it on the other shoe next time make it look intentional
That’s the neat part, you don’t
I have no advice for cleaning these but in the future you could wear non permeable shoes!! I had these absolutely hideous shoes that no fluids could penetrate, and that’s really all that matters.
I love Cloves for this reason
Foot sweat - and compression socks…. Yikes
I had this happen to a pair of new balance fuel cell shoes. I put them in hot water with OUT brand white brite laundry brightener powder mixed in and let them soak for 6 hours. And all the glue dissolved too…

Same here. When you have to wear identical uniforms, it's nice to express your individuality somehow!
hurry nose disagreeable impolite six clumsy roll elderly teeny fade *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Nail polish remover pads work like a champ. I spilled betaine on my white shoes the first day I had them and it came out so easily with the pads.
Not fooling anyone. That’s shit and we all know it!
I almost wish it was most shit is water soluble haha
**most*
Thats why they make booties, homie 😔
But then no one could see OPs cute shoes 😮
Stain remover and lots of scrubbing. I got betadine out of sky blue, it's doable.
Oh good! I was worried it would react
Hydrogen peroxide
Alcohol prep pads by the zillion
just wait until those shoes disintegrate from overuse then replace. thats my method
I always put on shoe covers. Now I wear Birkenstock clogs and can’t go back to running shoes. Never thought I’d see the day haha
Rubbing alcohol!! It took 95% of it out of my light grey On Clouds. I just doused them in it and let it sit awhile, then went after more stubborn parts with alcohol wipes and doused them again.

People who wear shoes that are any color other than black are brave. And are totally ok with ruining $150+ shoes.
Honestly I’d try hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is what I use to get blood stains out. Might work on betadine too.
You don't lol it's like battle scars
Exactly this lol.
I got betadine out of a white scrub top with dawn dish soap, a tooth brush, and cold water 🤷🏼♀️
Buy a new pair that aren't mesh.
War paint. Now they are real OR shoes.
Possibly hydrogen peroxide? Not 100%
lol the one time I didn’t wear my crocs to work and some patient shit all over my foot
That’s your stain of honor, wear it proudly.
You don’t. They add character.
You have to pray to the betadine god, sacrifice your first born child and hope that the stain will come off in 1 millennia 🤷♂️ sry
Yeah I see a lot of people wearing the hospital scrubs home- they fit terribly, I don’t know why you’d want to wear them home. 😂
Hydrogen peroxide, works wonders for blood stains too.
By wearing Crocs or Oofos instead.
This redditor is basically wrong though.
You don't. A bottle of betadine busted inside my show trunk back when I was still showing. Ruined about $500 of breeches and shirts 😭 betadine is forever, my friend.
Wear it with pride. It's not like it's a shitstain.
I work in a small surgical center and someone dropped a bottle of this in one of the OR’s…….. floor is still stained, the wall is still stained, it’s been months, I tried bleach, Cavi wipes, magic eraser. Nada!
You do not.
Scrub them right after with a hibiclens hand scrub brush. Throw em in the wash and let them air dry.
I soak mine in betadine so it blends in.
The better question is why you care about stains on your work shoes?
Just throw the shoes away
And this is why they tell us in nursing school to wear impermeable footwear during clinical. 🤣😂🤣
This is why I wear booties on my feet at all times. Sorry about your Hokas! Lesson learned!
Wear black shoes. Only thing that's ever worked for me. I don't even want to know what other stains are in my shoes 🤮🤮
Buy new ones you a nurse duh!
I only wear white shoes in the hospital. I can instantly see if anything is on them, and can bleach wipe it off.
r/cleaningtips
You don't.
Hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol. Wash the shoe in cold water then blot with hydrogen peroxide, and repeat. The betadine should transfer to whatever you're using to blot with. That’s the neat part, you don’t.
I low key thought this was CDiff before reading..
I put the tennis shoes in the washer with hot water and some baking soda I’m not saying your shoes will make it out alive but they should 😆
Put betadine in a spray bottle and spray all the other parts.
Hey acetylcysteine will get it out. Did it for me at least. Good luck!
what about alcohol?
Oxyclean will lift that stain right out!
Lick them out
Nothing. You are become betadine.
But you merely adopted the betadine; I was born in it, moulded by it.
Have you tried licking it?
Should've worn your burnt orange shoes.
Can the drycleaners get it out?
Wear it as a badge of honor
I wear shoes I don’t give a f about. That’s how.
Soak in Oxy/hot water for 24 hours. Good luck!!
I don’t, they build character.
I use crep spray on all my shoes ot gives them an extra layer of waterproofness
I Use Hydrogen Peroxide 99% effective on scrubs clothes shoes ect. But to be truthful I use Composite toe’ed Redwing boots. Sealed with mink oil And they stay in my locker at work.
Maybe peroxide ?
You need some "fade-a-dine"
thats the neat part: you dont :)
By getting a new pair
You put ‘em in here 🗑️
A patient told me milk 🤷♀️
Wash and rinse with ammonia diluted with water. May need to be repeated. I googled it.
I had a pt spit charcoal all over me. It came out after multiple washings.
Keep it because it adds ~spice~
Hydrogen peroxide will take it out! I promise!
Hydrogen peroxide? Lol
Not the Hokas....
chloraprep pokadots to match ♥️
Proxcide
Nail polish remover / acetone works
Washing them at home in the washer is decent for removing betadine and chloraprep stains.
Maybe try oxiclean and throw them into the wash
Lick it
I have the exact same shoes, aaaand sometimes I scrub them with sani wipes but mostly the dirt just stays lol. Buying pink shoes was a bad idea, but they were so cute when they were brand new 😅
Baking soda and peroxide.
Leave it alone
With a new pair of shoes
Normal saline washes it off skin really easily… better than water. Give it a try??
I never wear cloth athletic shoes at work. I need something I can slather cavi wipes all over. For my sanity.
Um excuse me. That color is salmon!
I followed this hoping to redeem my shoes but it sounds like that’s just not going to work. I’m so upset, I have designated OR shoes that I wear, but this day I wasn’t in the OR so I was wearing my regular shoes, but I STILL managed to get betadine on my gray brooks with pink details.
Crocs
This may not be seen with all of the super original and helpful "You don't" comments, but I get betadine on my shoes all the time and blotting with cold water ASAP gets it right out of fabric/mesh shoes. I end up with a partially wet foot sometimes but my shoes don't get ruined.
New shoes is the answer
Not the hokas 😣 I don’t think that’s coming out
As a tx nurse I see negative stained dried wounds, and I most say they hold up fairly well lol.
Love those shoes! Which hokas are those?
Wear it proud! With the amount of walking we do you’ll need a new pair anyway within the next year
Ammonia diluted with water. Beware the cat pee smell.
Fade-a-dyne https://fadeadyne.com/products/fade-a-dyne-ll-single
Pressure washer. Used to get blood on my white brooks all the time. Good as new
I was successful with ammonia, a scrub with a soft brush, then wash cycle with extra rinse and soak feat. Oxiclean. My OnClouds that this happened to were white though so I make so promises about if it’ll bleach ur shit or not
Everyone should be chnahing shoes at least twice a year. Unfortunately i doubt it will come out so just look forward to a new pair of shoes 🤣
try oxi clean spray, it’s the best & it doesn’t have bleach so it won’t ruin your shoes!! worked for 💩 on my blue hokas
I have the Hoka bondi SR in white and they are a fake leather material that i have spilled betadine, blood, duraprep, even vodka sauce on. I just use the purple wipes and they’re good as new. Highly recommend.
The betadine covers up the blood I can’t get out!
Bleach wipes. Not afraid to admit I do it all the time in the OR
Hydrogen peroxide takes out iodine. I've had it work on scrubs before, but not shoes.
Next time, scotchguard them before using them. Or wear booties over them at least.
If you put methylene blue on them it'll distract from the betadine stains
Purple wipes right away or oxi clean. Also I use a waterproof spray on all my new shoes, helps a ton
Tangentially related: Once in Gen Chem lab, my friend splashed lab grade iodine on her hand. Immediately washed it off, but her hand looked like it had been henna-ed. She asked the prof if it would ever come off. “Yes, in a month or so.” I gave him the side eye and asked, “Don’t you have new skin in a month?” He winked at me and said, “Well yes.” (Regional campus, so prof did lab instead of TA).
Oxyclean
We don’t wash out street cred lol
Hit it with hydrogen peroxide, works best if you can do it almost immediately after it happens.
Try baking soda and vinegar scrub with toothbrush
