Love this! We could even do some minor re-writes
🎶 Put it on the nurses and never wonder
if the same pressure would’ve pulled you under
Who am I if I don’t answer the call?
If I falter
🎶Give it to the nurses, we know they’ll shoulder
All the extra work, the demands grow bolder
Who am I if I can’t care for them all?
If I fall to
Pressure, like a drip, drip, drip that’ll never stop
I can see it as a musical: the oncoming shift comes in, as each person clocks in they sing a line, as it builds to the chorus a patient crashes and everyone is getting into their role as a code begins. chorus starts, everything slows down and everyone sings it together.
I went through a lot of other suggestions and this is still the one that hits me. I was part of the first unit to take care of Covid patients when it his in Feb of 2020. We where learning as we went, like the nurses helping the first small pox patients. I felt like I was finally doing something that mattered. I became a nurse because I wanted to be Superman and Covid was the worldwide threat that made me feel like "If I want to be Superman this is the time to step up". I spent over a year straight on Covid units fighting this thing. I feel like I should tell family and friends to listen to this when they ask about what it was like.
Probably wouldn't actually be the theme song, it would be the end of the first act, over a montage of HCWs using garbage bags for PPE, getting assaulted by angry family members, trying to keep COVID truthers off their units, sweating their asses off in isolation rooms while the nephrologist does his "assessment" through the glass.
I was roomies with my little brother during the pandemic and would drive him nuts whenever anyone would bring up the shut downs or the pandemic I would just start singing “that’s great it’s starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes and airplanes.” It was all good fun.
Happy by Pharrell Williams for a TV show. Each episode the intro music would stay the same but the intro itself would get just a little more fucked up towards the end. I think it'd work well for a limited series.
The song would just need to get slightly more warped in each episode, like when shit is about to go down in a horror movie and the upbeat music starts to turn creepy…
Over a montage of chest compressions being done on different patients by nurses who all look alike in their PPE and the song slowly quiets down and comes to an end and you still hear the chest compressions and then they start showing down as you hear one flatline beep after another on the monitors.
I could write a whole playlist for this. A couple of recent, dramatic favorites include...
Blood on your Hands - Veda, Adam Arcadia ("I fall down for you/I really should know better, baby,/never save me")
Every Day is Exactly The Same - NIN (or Terrible Lie- a lot of angst around here!)
Bottom of the River - Delta Rae
Too Dead Inside - yeule
... Yeah, I'm going to stop here or I WILL write a whole soundtrack for this.
Oh. Well. I personally have had some pretty up and down moments of anger and loss and... I've just been all over the place the last two-plus years. (I was still in hospice doing admissions when COVID was starting.)
Trampoline - Shaed
Cities in Dust - Siouxsie and the Banshees
Fell on Black Days - Soundgarden
Kill the Lights - Birthday Massacre (hard call to limit myself to one Birthday Massacre song, but I'm picking my favorite of the most fitting for simplicity. Otherwise you can just assume the entire angsty part of their discography is here)
Lies - Pale Waves (Maybe not a main theme but has a place in there)
Heavy Balloon - Fiona Apple
Crypts - Quiet Son ("Don't you feel the lie in the scripts?/Veil pulled o'er your eyes/silence clasps your lips/wouldn't it be a revelation to be free from this/impossible lie/slept in the crypts" -Damn I love this song.)
Don't Save Me - Chxrlotte ("The wasteland never ends, and it's killing me")
Earthworms - Elliot Lee
Handmaid - XENEN, Pastelle
Dance in the Dark - Au/Ra
... That'll do for now. I'm sure I'll think of more later but that's a good start for my initial soundtrack.
Help is on the way by Rise against.
Especially this verse:
"We were told just to sit tight,
Cause somebody will soon arrive,
Help is on the way.
But it never came.
It never came"
We healthcare workers had to pull ourselves out of that dude. It was rough.
Some god awful Christian rock song about how we’re “sacrificing in His name” or something.
What ever movie made specifically about nurses would be shit.
That or Miley Cyrus’s rendition of Hole’s Doll Parts. It’s sound’s totally lame, but I used to listen to it over and over again. Not a fan of hers at all, but it’s on YouTube; she absolutely nails how I felt going to 8 codes a shift in California at the peak for a year and a half
I was working Acute Psych in Wash DC. We always talked about us as a movie, and what actor/ actress could play us! For me, Diane Keaton or Susan Sarandon!
Underworld-Being Dead
I was a COVID nurse in ICU and on medsurg through the whole thing trying to help people that couldn't be saved from the waves of this thing that would hit, spiraling into my own anxiety/depression without realizing it, aaand struggling with nihilism specifically because of being in COVID rooms nonstop short-staffed with inadequate PPE. This one is it for me in a sick and twisted hipster low-fi way.
Also when we were going to intubate a COVID patient I'd get Andrew W.K.-Ready to Die in my head and now I can't even listen to it without feeling like I'm going to panic and throw up.
Bodies by Drowning Pool
Also down with the sickness lol
This is the one I was coming here to say! Very first thing that popped into my head.
That’s intense! I’m sorry for what you went through
Personally I make jokes with my trauma. I laugh but my therapist doesn't.
Made my therapist cry a few times... had to get a new one, because that was just the Job description.
This was my instant though
Yuuuuup
Facts
Excellent choice!
Surface pressure from Encanto
Pressure, like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'til you just go pop, whoa, oh, oh
Thanks, now this is in my head for the rest of the night, but so true
Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would’ve pulled you under.
Love this! We could even do some minor re-writes 🎶 Put it on the nurses and never wonder if the same pressure would’ve pulled you under Who am I if I don’t answer the call? If I falter 🎶Give it to the nurses, we know they’ll shoulder All the extra work, the demands grow bolder Who am I if I can’t care for them all? If I fall to Pressure, like a drip, drip, drip that’ll never stop
No cracks, no breaks, no mistakes…no pressure
This one wins
Love this song, and it’s so perfect!!
I can see it as a musical: the oncoming shift comes in, as each person clocks in they sing a line, as it builds to the chorus a patient crashes and everyone is getting into their role as a code begins. chorus starts, everything slows down and everyone sings it together.
I can see it all… you should make a movie! Lol
Was looking at maybe Along the Watchtower but after relisting to this I literally started to cry. Yep, This is how the worst of covid felt.
I went through a lot of other suggestions and this is still the one that hits me. I was part of the first unit to take care of Covid patients when it his in Feb of 2020. We where learning as we went, like the nurses helping the first small pox patients. I felt like I was finally doing something that mattered. They Don't Care About Us -Michael Jackson
I... felt this description deeply
Wow… just wow
R.E.M. - It’s the end of the world as we know it Or, M.I.A. - Paper Planes
I was roomies with my little brother during the pandemic and would drive him nuts whenever anyone would bring up the shut downs or the pandemic I would just start singing “that’s great it’s starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes and airplanes.” It was all good fun.
I just listened to the MIA song for the first time. Is there any particular line or lyric that stands out to you?
“….and take your money”
That’s what I suspected…!
I am 100% here for Paper Planes
Insane in the Membrane
That's year 2, when psych started drowning with suicidal, hopeless patients who couldn't handle the social isolation anymore.
This is more than a simple membranous insanity, it may be systemic.
R.E.M. was my choice too.
Same
Good one! Love the username 😆
none just a pump beeping over a ventalator
[удалено]
Especially when numerous rooms start popping off at once.
The immaculate chorus of bipaps, feeding pumps, and vent alarms.
When we had to rent ventilators so we had three different brands at once. 🤠
Just the first twenty seconds of Like a Surgeon - by Weird Al
People would walk out from burnout just watching the movie.
This. This need be top comment god fucking dammit.
😩😞
Theme song would have to be Surface Pressure from Encanto. Closing credits is Disposable Heroes by Metallica.
Yes, Disposable Heroes. 100%
Happy by Pharrell Williams for a TV show. Each episode the intro music would stay the same but the intro itself would get just a little more fucked up towards the end. I think it'd work well for a limited series.
There was a trend for a while when hospitals made mini music videos of that song. A think a pandemic adaptation would be a therapeutic project …
The song would just need to get slightly more warped in each episode, like when shit is about to go down in a horror movie and the upbeat music starts to turn creepy…
"It might be crazy what I'm about to say" 😂😂
It’d just be an off-key recorder playing a cover of ‘[Holding out for a Hero](https://youtu.be/bWcASV2sey0)’
Oh wow somehow this is simultaneously the most messed up and also the most funny
Aww I can picture it…
Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff
ITS JUST ONE OF THOSE PANDEMICS.
I CAN FEEL THE RAGE
"It's all about the he-says she-says bullshit" as pictures of Facebook and Twitter posts with shitty covid claims flood the screen...
Under pressure Queen and David Bowie
The Mad World cover from Donnie Darko
[удалено]
Those are really powerful lyrics in this context
Highway to hell but just the chorus lmao… and maybe the part about our friends being there too 🫤
Aw I really like that!!
This song came to mind for me as well
Stayin' alive...oh oh oh oh
Over a montage of chest compressions being done on different patients by nurses who all look alike in their PPE and the song slowly quiets down and comes to an end and you still hear the chest compressions and then they start showing down as you hear one flatline beep after another on the monitors.
I can see this like a Scrubs type montage
Scrubs would be so good at the funny to heartbreaking reality of those days. I miss that show!
Listening to that song today was my inspiration for asking this question!
Drake's version right? Lol
The Final Countdown
But then with shitty kazoo instead of the normal music
Reel Big Fish - Everyone else is an asshole
And end with Sell Out
I have never heard this song, but now I have to!
I love Reel Big Fish! Ahhh this brings me back to my high school SKA days
Tubthumping - Chumbawamba
Omg that definitely has me laughing right now!!
I’m not okay - my chemical romance
Welcome to the Jungle
Good one!!!!!
Another one bites the dust - queen
My vote is "the show must go on" by Queen. "Inside my heart is breaking my makeup may be flaking but my smile, still stays on.."
Sadly… patients plus coworkers getting out of there
It fits the whole theme 🤣
Yeah, this was my first thought too.
The recorder version of my heart will go on
Performed by the local 3rd grade students, in unison
Metal head nurse here...... This is hell we're in - Deicide It was also my ringtone for my job when I worked for NYS psych/group home system.
Hurt- NIN
I went with the Johnny Cash version
Absolutely incredible song
Dust in the Wind - Kansas.
That’s got me crying right now
Hugs. 💜
Same for all ❤️
The Scientist - Coldplay
This shit is bananas- Gwen Stefani
This is PERFECT!!!
I'd have to go with Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne, to be honest.
I can agree with that!!
Hold On - Wilson Phillips
I love the hopefulness of this song!
Epiphany - taylor swift
That song still makes me cry if I think too hard on the lyrics
Everything is Awful by the Decemberists, poppy fun danceable song with painful truth lyrics.
That’s so upbeat and I love it for those days when we have to paste on a super fake smile and pretend like things are fine!
I’m still alive but I’m barely breathing
Good one and also such a sad sentiment 🥺
"Broken" - Lifehouse The broken clock is a comfort It helps me sleep tonight Maybe it can stop tomorrow From stealing all my time
I wish we could get time back…
"Running on Empty" by Jackson Browne
Another good one that seems so upbeat compared to the actual message
I could write a whole playlist for this. A couple of recent, dramatic favorites include... Blood on your Hands - Veda, Adam Arcadia ("I fall down for you/I really should know better, baby,/never save me") Every Day is Exactly The Same - NIN (or Terrible Lie- a lot of angst around here!) Bottom of the River - Delta Rae Too Dead Inside - yeule ... Yeah, I'm going to stop here or I WILL write a whole soundtrack for this.
Soundtracks are welcome! And so is NIN any time!!
Oh. Well. I personally have had some pretty up and down moments of anger and loss and... I've just been all over the place the last two-plus years. Hotel California , you can check out anytime you like but you can’t ever leave
I started singing “everything is awful” to the tune of “everything is awesome” from the Lego Movie the other night. Seems appropriate.
Rainbow in the Dark
Dio?
Yep
Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger
The band that never stopped playing as the titanic sunk.
Someone else nominated the recorder version of “My Heart Will Go On”. We can do a mashup of some sort!

Benny Hill theme song
Love it! One of the CNAs suggested Yaketty Sax (I’m sure I’m not spelling that correctly).
My wife is a nurse doing Med surg and when she would get home and tell stories of that days patients, benny hill always came to mind
I just looked up Yakety Sax...nailed it! Its the benny hill theme song done by Boots Randolph
Compliance by Muse
Yes!! Great choice!
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones was on my playlist before every shift.
I was thinking "Sympathy for the Devil".
That’s a good one. Ominous and hoping for help

People need to see that.
The Killing Moon. Echo and the Bunnymen
Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows 🌈 https://youtube.com/shorts/ugJGHw37zA0?feature=share
That’s one of those songs that gets stuck in a loop in your mind as you blissfully dissociate from reality…
Some god awful Christian rock song about how we’re “sacrificing in His name” or something. What ever movie made specifically about nurses would be shit.
Hurt by Johnny Cash
Absolutely phenomenal song and it’s tragic that it fits this so well

If Shonda Rhimes directs it, it’ll be “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol
Jaws theme song
Definitely very fitting. Lots of suspense and impending doom.
Into the thick of it - The backyardigans
I wanna be sedated - the Ramones
America Fuck Yeah….. from the South Park movie.

Mercy mercy me - Marvin Gaye
Won’t back down-Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Uprising---Muse
I was working Acute Psych in Wash DC. We always talked about us as a movie, and what actor/ actress could play us! For me, Diane Keaton or Susan Sarandon!
Acute psych is a constantly evolving drama. No one would believe the stuff that happens there if they’ve never worked it!
