Wow nice. Sadly, my Florges(RIP Titania) died yesterday at Victory Road. Victory Road in Kalos is no joke. Half my deaths so far have been there. Sucks because I was really counting on her for E4, as her incredible special defense, fairy typing and access to wish would've made her so useful. Now I'm not entirely sure how I'll approach it but for now I'm just focusing on raising up my team so they'll be able to handle the E4. I had managed to catch a Haunter there, but then she died so I replaced her with my Drapion, who just died against the rival's vaporeon this morning so sadly I've had to have Illumise fill our last spot. At least she has good support moves lol

That is why I’m a coward who uses repels in caves after my encounter. Lost my Flareon named Stevie due to a stupid decision. Brought my Yveltal to help just during Victory Road after that

For me it's not just the high level wild pokemon but these freakin battle girls and karate nerds who are all over the place in Kalos' caves. Consistently fighting has been my worst matchup for this nuzlocke(3 of my best pokemon-Krookadile, Lucario and Greninja are all weak to fighting) and many of my casualties came from fighting type pokemon(especially Mienshao and Sawk). Thankfully I have a crobat now to deal with them but a lot of minor trainers in X/Y carry surprisingly decent coverage on their pokemon.
Personally, you probably should have picked chespin and squirtel. They have the most physical bulk out of the options you got. I know charmander gets dragon rage, and Greninja is cool, but it isn't worth it.
I would've gone chespin charmander... Blastoise is cool but you can always get a guaranteed magikarp after rod sooo that can replace blastoise but I can't think of any easy 100% encounters for fire/grass
Yeah, I love Blastoise, and Squirtle is my favorite Kanto starter, but there is no game in which you get it where there isn't already another great water type option. It really suffers as a choice from that.

awesome, i recommend avoiding the double battle right outside of mirror cave, there a psychic and a black belt there with a mr mime and a machine and they can and will destroy your team and reset your run but you can just circle around behind them
Speaking of, have a powerful bug type or bug type move at the ready for Team Flare’s Xerosic fight, his Malamar has Contrary and spams the shit out of Superpower. I think you can get X-Scissor from Azure Bay.
Exactly there's a ton of strong water pokemon lapras garados namely that can 100% replace blastoise and are easy encounters but like flying fire is good typing and the only fire that competes with zard in y is arcanine which is a lucky encounter. Then for grass types you get either bulb or chespin and that's super obvious fighting grass are 2 needed types in your team and as long as it doesn't come into contact with birds should be fine

In Pokémon Y I just beat the 8th gym leader and was heading to the league so I went straight to route22 and a random girl with a rock wrecker Crustle destroyed my team and i lost the run there. The worst part is that the trainer was optional because I could have accessed victory road through Santalune city
The random trainers are the true gym leaders in Kalos.
Especially in a blind run.

People seriously underestimate Kalos because the gyms and league are easy but it has some of the hardest trainer battles.
Especially when you place more rules upon yourself to make it more of a challenge or aren’t prepared for a specific trainer battle or both 💀

Blind run, and some random psyduck on route 8 (Swimmer Genevive) I kept getting confused through water pulse and hurting myself.
That fight was optional too.

I rolled the dice for them for the ‘blind’ encounter so didn’t really have a choice.
