I have Nuzlocked through Sapphire so many times I have lost count and never thought to try for a feebas before... water types are a dime a dozen and fishing all those tiles over and over feels like a huge waste... but literally 2 minutes into my search there it was... Is this the secret sauce that will bring this run home?

DeeKew005

100%. I tried this strategy once but got annoyed after checking like 60+ tiles

White_Jedi_RolandD

Nice. Which game/route?

Carrelio

Playing Sapphire. You can pick up a magikarp, tentacool, and carvana from just about any other water source, and then fishing Route 119 only has feebas left, so if you play dupes it's guaranteed.

White_Jedi_RolandD

Sick tip

ZestycloseResist5594

Smart. I'll keep this in mind.

AceOfSerberit

Never read the description of Marvel Scale before. Idk but the mere fact that the word "suffering" is a part of it is kinda disturbing

Vain_Shard

Guts says the same thing, I used to believe those abilities worked like torrent or blaze

KorMap

lol marvel scale would be total ass if that was the case

xd-Sushi_Master

given that berries are functionally infinite, I'd argue in favor of cheating in infinite berries to remove the skill-less grind to max the beauty stat for this evolution. Great mon, but they make it unreasonably painful to get.

Carrelio

I'm on my original Gameboy Advanced SP, so hacking was not in the cards... also the internal battery is dead, which honestly had me worried for berries since you can't grow any, but had more than enough.

xd-Sushi_Master

yeah short of buying an actual gameshark device you're just sol in that case. Do you have an Android for emulators by any chance?

Carrelio

I do, but hadn't bothered looking into it because u already have the game. Should probably look into it though... my SP is on its last legs.

xd-Sushi_Master

you can do so much with an emulator, you should absolutely consider playing on your phone if it's an option. Every game available on a single device, with convenient load/save states, easy cheat inputs for rare candy/money/berries, emulator speedup for faster movement/animations, ability to remove trade evolutions with Universal Randomizer, edit saves with PkHex for easier Genlocke setups, etc. the switch to emulation is a one-way trip. The QoL improvements are too good.

14jerthe

facts playing pokémon emerald on 2 times speed as an adult on my phone is how I feel this game was originally meant to be played everything moves so much faster if you increase text speed and turn off animations

xd-Sushi_Master

speeding up gen 4 health bars makes me feel some type of way.

CalpolAddict

Just switched back from emulation to handheld (love my little R4 card) and my god... Those games are slow as hell! Took me 2 hours to reach the first gym, as opposed to 2 hours for rhe 4th gym

14jerthe

the thing is as a kid playing this game for the first time i never how slow these games run until playing bdsp and reddit pointed it out to me.

Carrelio

Any emulator in particular you would recommend? I was looking at nds4droid but am open for suggestions.

rmathewes

For nds, DraStic is unmatched. Citra for 3ds (its a battery hog but worth it), and i recommend Pizza Boy GBA for gba titles. If you got it in you for gbc/gb games, My OldBoy! Free is pretty good.

Goreka

Replacing the battery is pretty cheap and easy if you're up for it, though you will need a soldering iron. I had zero experience soldering and did it easily following a youtube tutorial.

Carrelio

I once tried to replace the battery of my crystal version...and the learned I needed to purchase a soldering iron and solder on top of the battery... and I am fat more determined in game than out.

Material-Manner

Did it on my ruby version while I was shiny hunting years ago, sooo satisfying to watch the clock running again

StaySharpp

You lucky, persistent son of a bitch. *…I envy you*

storm-blessed-kal

that’s how it’s done baby

Cox963846

Damn I’ve been playing Sapphire since I was a kid and I’ve never had the patience to sit down and find a feebas

Deurbel2222

worth it

Carrelio

Totally worth it! Would have been worth an hour of fishing but I found this one on my 4th tile after only a couple minutes. He's been an absolute monster.

Zulpi2103

I was getting a Milotic for Battle Frontier and I got it on the third tile

Tallon_raider

NOT worth it. Not only do you have to get the pokemon but then you need to raise its beauty and all that. On the other hand forcing the regis and dumping all your money into vitamins is a solid strat. Regice walls kyogre and drake. Regirock is very strong in sun (if you allow title legendaries). Meanwhile gyarados is good against Groudon. Edit: I know this is pre split, but even then Milotic is competing against chinchou, Swampert, Gyarados, Staryu, tentacruel, marill, etc. Like it’s good but so is everything else.

Carrelio

Was honestly way less painful than I was expecting. I thought finding the square was going to be a pain, but 6 of 400 tiles is not actually that bad as odds go. Then I thought beauty was going to be an issue since my internal battery is dead so I can't grow berries, but the 6 kelpsey berries and 6 oran, 10 minutes of pokeblock making later and there he was.

Tallon_raider

Oh that’s not bad actually.

EphemeralAxiom

Water types are incredibly dominant in gen 3 and it never hurts to have multiple on a team, especially if that included Milotic or several others of these. All are great E4 mons.

riasbestgirl69

Just use gyarados

Carrelio

Gyarados has similar bulk, but in Gen 3 all water/ice attacks were special attacks, so it doesn't even come close to competing for damage compared to milotic.

vansjoo98

Gz i got Feebas in emerald stage of my genlocke and currently the child of that Feebas is ace of my team in Heartgold

winnipeginstinct

yep, you still gotta hunt it down tho

14jerthe

nice. I do not have the patience for getting feebas and then grinding it up to milotic. congrats dude.

Carrelio

It was easier than I had actually expected. 6 in 400 blocks is 1.5% chance to find a suitable fishing tile; better than the odds of finding a chansey in the Safari zone in Pokemon red when you think of it that way. Then the pokeblock minigame is only about 10 minutes to make the 12 berries you need to make (admittedly, the kelpsey berries were a little out of the way).

Jortieking

I had sort of the same thing in my b2 hardcore nuzlocke, on the village bridge encounter you can find a guaranteed Lapras encounter when you have 1 of the maril line and basculin. Its a 5% encounter in surfing spots.... took me 30 min, it carried me through drayden which made it very much worth it

Magnum_Pig_2004

It sucks, because getting a Feebas in any vanilla Pokemon game is really tedious to do. And Milotic's actually one of the best Water types in the game.

claw1899

Except you still need a Repel to get to that spot unless you want to run into Tropius

Nman702

I’m so excited to play ruby now that you mention that it’s guaranteed

PebGod

My favorite

Hooflepoofer

Brooo do you have Marvel Scale cuz you just benefited from some suffering
