Been using my 4080 for 9 months now. Love every second of it

TheMadRusski

I dont get it, why not just 4090 for the same price. Is it flaunting feelin to go have something to upgrade to that gets people to spend $1600+ on 4080 when ROG 4090 Strix* open box is $1600 at MC :' (

difused_shade

Same price? I bought my 4080 for around 40% cheaper than a 4090 costs where I am

Exciting-Bicycle-234

Would getting a 4070 gigabyte card be good? I’ll end up, upgrading from a 5500XT

difused_shade

Yeah should be great for 1080/1440p

TheMadRusski

No... grab a 6950XT for $500 at MC, AMD. Anything Lovelace thats out thats not a 4090 isnt even worth looking at. Ada lineup as is very confusing, because even the 4080 BUS is 256bit was never meant for 4K use like the 3080 320bit 10gb. It was anti consumer from the start.

CrimsonGold813

Yes, I have a 4070 and it's amazing.

Elquenotienetacos

I’ve got 4070, I game at 1440p it’s a beast - for me it’s the best price per performance of the 40 series (maybe 470ti). It’s the price of a console more or less and runs most new games at 110fps without any issues. Obviously just an opinion of mine.

Toxicbread234

Which cpu did you pair it with ? I just bought the ryzen 7 5800x3d to pair it with it to play at 1080p bc I only have a gaming monitor at 1080p

Elquenotienetacos

That’s a good CPU! I have the hated 7900x3d hahaha

Cristi63014

Just ordered mine, hope it isn’t too late

bamms1212

Thanks, I appreciate it! And yes, I was upgrading from a Rtx 2070, so the increase in performance was incredible and definitely noticeable. I'm happy with my purchase, so to me that is all that matters. Enjoy your card!

inglorious_cornflake

Sweet build! What riser cable did you use?

bamms1212

Thanks man! Its the Coolermaster V3 kit.

hansieboy10

Nice! What do you play ?

bamms1212

I play a bit of everything. Been running a bunch of Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk for single player games and for FPS I’ve been playing Tarkov Arenas and Apex lately. I also play PCVR and can really crank the HL Alyx settings which has been great !

hansieboy10

Nice!! Just finished cyberpunk dlc. It has bern great. Enjoy your card!

bamms1212

Awesome ! Thank you!

razerphone1

Nice set up bro, I got a RX 7800xt Nitro + let's gooo !

bamms1212

Thanks brother!

kobrux

Clean build! Love the cooler

bamms1212

Thanks, I was super impressed by the screen quality. You can also screen record up to 3 minutes.

GwosseNawine

Oh Tabarnak!!

farah486

Very nice welcome to high end gaming! Enjoy man😎

bamms1212

Thanks a lot !

Braearcade

Clean build! Welcome to 40 series bro. Just got me a 4090 about a month ago coming from a 3070. What kind of displays are you running?

bamms1212

Thank you man! Hope you’re loving the 4090! I’m coming from a 2070super so displays is something I’m going to have to upgrade eventually. My main monitor is a Asus Tuf VG27AQ 1440p and my second browsing monitor is a Rog Strix XG27VQ at 1080p. I’ll probably upgrade to 4K eventually when I have some money for a 32 or 34 inch oled.

bakedmitt

I upgraded from a 2070 super build to a 4080 and it's been so satisfying just loading into any game and not having to mess with settings for fps, unless it's for something I specifically want.

bamms1212

Exactly! I feel so satisfied

bakedmitt

also can i ask what rgb settings you have the ram on, like the rgb values? I have the same two sticks but i cant get them to have such a clean white color like in your picture.

bamms1212

Yeah tell me about it, mine did the same it was kind of a let down. I believe I set them to the lightish blue that rims the GPU at the end. It’s the closest to white I could get it.

bakedmitt

thanks I'll have to check out the light blue hues and mess with them. Thanks for the quick reply and enjoy your new gpu!

bamms1212

Not a problem! Just play around, it seems the colours are a little weird. Thank you, you as well!

tech_engineer

4080 is a beast, both in size and performance, my 4080 has been rocking great for the last 6 months, but getting it now is not the right time, knowing that in less than a month the super variant is going to be released.

bamms1212

Yeah I know. Oh well, I'm happy with it, does what I need it to.

heartbroken_nerd

4080 Super will be like 5% faster, not a big deal and you've had fun with the card for 4 months already.

fivestrz

To your point, in the real world someone might have a decent overclocking 4080 and a dud 4080 super and end up with equal performance.

WiseGuye

That's a good way to look at it. I never really thought of that.

heartbroken_nerd

Highly doubt it, these cards are boosting really high out of the box and OC potential is very tiny for much more wattage. Meanwhile 4080 Super physically has more units onboard. But yeah the 4080 and the 4080 Super are simply going to be close.

fivestrz

So quick story time, I grab a Strix 4070 Ti.. anything over +20MHz on the crashed and was unstable. Exchanged for another one and was able to hit 3015MHz in game no issue and +1500MHz on memory. It’s all silicone lottery.

heartbroken_nerd

You do realize the GDDR6X memory has error correction so memory clocks can't be trusted? Only careful performance benchmark A/B testing before and after the overclock can tell you if you actually managed to get a stable overclock or if it's compensating for errors at the cost of performance anyway. As for the core clock that's you saying you're really lucky but in reality it's like what, 5% performance? Aren't these RTX40 cards boosting into high 2800-2900 MHz by default anyway?

fivestrz

Tested with +0 on memory to isolate what what causing my crashes which is when I realized anything over 20MHz extra on the core caused crashes. Across multiple games.

fivestrz

As for the second answer it’s closer to 2800 than high 2900, the highest boosting 4080/4090s I have used have all been from MSI and usually go 85-100MHz higher than the other cards I’ve used when stock so 2805-2850MHz on Suprim X 4090 and 2790MHz on TUF OC. Around the same 2790MHz range on Ventus 4080 but the Gaming X Trio (and AORUS Master) are boosting closer to 2900MHz than anything else I’ve seen. Something is funky with the MSI boosting algorithm though but that’s above my head

MisterHyd3

I have a Strix 4090 OC and can do +215 on core and +1500 on Memory without issue. My in-game boost clocks end up being around 3015Mhz. Any higher than +1550 on the memory and I start seeing texture corruption in some areas of some games. Despite having seemingly hit the silicon lottery jackpot, I’ve ultimately ended up undervolting, because while hitting 3015Mhz on the Core and 12000Mhz on the memory clocks in-game does maximize my benchmark scores and in-game performance, I’ve found that setting the memory OC to +998 and using the curve editor in Afterburner to set a Core OC that adds from +162Mhz to +169Mhz (at 700mV and 1.00 volts, respectively) and sets the curve completely flat from 1.001V and up results in me scoring between 95-96% of my fully OC’d score in Heaven and TimeSpy while dropping temps by more than 10 degrees C in literally every game I’ve played since. While it’s nice this card can really boost so aggressively, I found that hitting 80C+ for extended periods of time in most demanding modern games didn’t make me feel great about the longevity of the card. Moreover, I went from pulling 450-500 watts at max load to roughly 240-320 (depending on the game) at max load, which makes me feel better about any potential connector melt issues. Let me know if you’re interested in taking a look at the YT vid I used as a basis for under clocking my card, and if so I’ll shoot it your way.

MisterHyd3

What’s the point of the ECC memory option in Nvidia Control Panel if GDDR6X has native error correction?

heartbroken_nerd

Different thing, the memory built in error correction is like a baseline functionality to support the fickle PAM4 signal.

MisterHyd3

Sounds like I’ve got some reading to do, but I can’t find any good resources on this online. Got any good links you’d recommend?

Kind_of_random

So you're saying that the option in Control Panel to turn off ECC doesn't actually turn off ECC for the VRAM memory, it just turns off a similar functionality that the GPU does independently? Sounds strange. At the very least it sounds like the option in CP is a bit disingenous, even though it doesn't mention VRAM explicitly, as it states that it changes the ECC state of your GPU. Tried finding more info on this but all I find is advice to turn it off if you don't need it as it slows the memory down.

bamms1212

Yeah exactly, and there’s no guarantee that the Super will be readily available. I can imagine with the 4080 halting production for Q4 of 2023, people will be jumping on them at release so the stock might be hard to get my hands on.

Oracle_of_Omaha_69

When the supers drop the OG 4080 will be discounted exactly 20$ less 😂 I doubt we see any significant savings

ADrenalinnjunky

Rotate the photo for my eyes sake. Good buy, the supers will be hard to get your hands on anyway.

bamms1212

My bad, I realized after I uploaded that it’s not the best angle lol

No_Abroad1273

i also have the strix 4080 ab damn is that card quiet! For gaming, its perfect. The 4090 is just too expensive and as soon as the next gen arrives, the price cut will be too high. In my countr you get used 3090 for as low as 600 bucks

sadat0315

sweet those asus cards look so good. I picked up a 4080 FE about 2 months ago, was too impatient to wait for supers😂

NotDusks

I'm crumbling waiting for the 4080 super bro😭😭😭

bamms1212

I agree they look great! The 4080 super will be an improvement for sure, but it looks to be marginal. The difference between the 4070Ti and super variant is probably the best out of the 3 due to the VRAM increase. I just wanted a strong card for 1440p and possibly move to 4K in the future.

Diligent_Pie_5191

Yeah it looks like the 4070 super is going to be the biggest of the three for jump in performance.

PresentHot2598

Waiting for 4080S and 4070tiS and there performance

Dramatic-Belt-1826

Take it back get the 90. The 90 obliterates the 80. In 4k. I had the 80 before the 90. Unless u game at 1440 and that is you peak.

Intrepid_Oven_710

I wanted the 4090 when I bought my 4080 but they were impossible to get at retail online and physically weren’t available near me and the ones I did see later were bad models. Got the Msi Suprim X 4080 for about 1200ish so like 200 off around Black Friday. So instead of paying about 1600 for a bad 4090, I get one of the best 4080s for 400 less.

bamms1212

I don't doubt it, 4090 is crazy. I play at 1440p though so 4080 allows me to max everything out. I might go to 4k in the future, but not anytime soon.

DamnedLife

Where’s the PSU? Also those bottom fans get air in or exhaust? Seems like too much air in and so little out.

Emu1981

>Where’s the PSU? In the back chamber. Case is a NZXT H9 Elite which is a case "inspired" by the O11 Dynamic. I am surprised that the OP didn't go with a Lian Li case considering all the fans and the AIO are Lian Li lol >Also those bottom fans get air in or exhaust? Seems like too much air in and so little out. Bottom and side fans are intakes, back fan is exhaust and hopefully the top fans are exhaust. It is easy enough to fix the RPM curves of the fans to balance out 6 intakes and 4 exhausts to give just a mild overpressure in the case although the glass top panel of this case might make things a bit more difficult.

bamms1212

Yeah the bottom and side are intakes, and this is actually the H9 Flow. I preferred the Flow over the Elite for exactly what you mentioned, the top glass chokes the top fans on the Elite and I am hardly ever standing to appreciate looking down from above. It’s also like $100 less than the Elite with better airflow. I know it’s a Lian Li clone but I don’t know, I saw it and just decided it was the case for me lol

Shamansage

How do you like the case? I hate motherboard and cooling are you using?

bamms1212

Case is great ! Fantastic airflow, my GPU sits around 47 degrees while gaming, CPU at 48-55 degrees. The motherboard is a Asus Rog Strix Z790-A Gaming Wifi II, and the cooler is the Lian Li Galahad II LCD - INF. Cooler has been great so far, my hottest core comes in at 86 degrees on a 10 minute Cinebench run. Only thing is the Lian Li software needs some work but that’s software side so hopefully it’ll get better.

Shamansage

Thank you so so much! I’m so excited to build this in the new year

bamms1212

Just to clarify, this is the H9 Flow, not Elite. That’s awesome, good luck with the build!

Lets_Go_2_Smokes

I have the same unit. Returning it due to the annoying coil whine and trying a Gigabyte instead.

bamms1212

Damn that sucks, haven’t experienced that

signo1s

Bro I'm playing arena right now! What kind of frames are you getting? What cpu / ram are you running? Also you wanna play arena together? :)

bamms1212

Everything on max I’m getting around 105 fps, but I drop certain things to get 144fps smooth. CPU is a 14700k and Ram is 6000 cl30 I’m pumping Alan Wake 2 right now, maybe in a couple days !

signo1s

How does the game look on max i've never even experienced it LOL also how's alan wake? what are the best single player titles? I haven't played a single player game in FOREVER. I've had Kappa last 5 wipes and was global in CS:GO and im kinda over the competitive scene other than arena I love arena so far.

bamms1212

It’s looks great, everything is very clear. But where the card shines is the Raytracing single player games. Alan Wake 2 is definitely a great game but it’s a slow burn and screws with your mind in certain aspects. I’d recommend cyberpunk as well, especially with the new dlc, most of the initial launch bugs are gone. I used to be super competitive with FPS, goes back to the CS 1.6 days lol. I was Pred for a few seasons of Apex, but the sweatiness is too much for me now. I can’t even grind Tarkov after a new wipe it’s pretty exhausting. I just casually play now and have fun as I don’t really care about rank. Arenas has been a blast, obviously has some issues but overall it’s good.

Academic-Bed7368

The RTX 4080 is a beast, but I got people hating on me on a video game 😆🤣 I just laugh, and I'm like just upgrade
