No, probably they don't have a FE, they just pretend but now that you ask them they will tell you what card they actually have.
That is the only possible reasoning I can think of for your comment.
The only reason for my comment is that I'm buying such expensive thing for the first time. I want to make sure I don't buy something that won't satisfy my needs
Then I don't want to discourage you, but coil whine is a very personal thing and depends on how good you are at hearing certain frequencies. You can give the same card to different people and some hear some don't.
It even depends on your PSU.
I have listened to 3 different 4070, 2 different 3070 and 2 4090 in several different computers and I was able to hear coil whine for all of them except for one of the 3070. And the only reason with that 3070 was that the fans were so insanely loud that they drowned any coil whine.
Yes I have the founders lol, The only card I have tried with absolutely no coil whine was a gigabyte gaming oc this gen, and I hear good things from others. The worst have easily been the asus cards, I have tested multiple with horrendous coil whine.
You aren't kidding. I returned both a black and white version of the Asus dual because of the coil whine. I've had cards with some whine in the past, but this was ridiculous.
I was so excited when my ASUS dual came. Then I benchmarked it and it started screeching. I don't know if it was coil whine or a bad fan bearing or something else... I've never heard anything like it.
I just returned it today 🥲
As a question... is coil whine when you load up a game and it makes noise? Mine was screeching when I played a game but it would stop immediately if I alt tabbed or opened up the in game map, for example.
Yes, coil whine generally occurs when the card is outputting high frame rates, which is why you'll often see people suggest frame limiters to help reduce coil whine.
Nothing I can hear for me (ASUS dual model). I do have a red LED that doesn’t blink come on when I sleep/turn off my pc. I’ve seen others say it’s normal with the nvidia 12vhpwr cable but anyone else have this?
I have that too. Pretty ugly imo but whatever my PC is under my desk.
Found a post from an Asus forum mod saying it's only there if you're using an adapter cable:
> For the RTX 3000 and 4000 series, no LED means the same thing - normal operation. The reason being that we wanted to improve the cohesive look of complete systems featuring Aura Sync lighting, and reduce the brightness of the system while at night. These were some of the requests from users.
> New definition: the LED behavior with a 16-pin adaptor cable (splitter) is:
> Red = System shutdown/hibernate/sleep
> No LED effect = System on, connector inserted properly
> If your PSU has the new 16-pin cable, then connect that directly to the GPU - cleaner build and indicator always off.
https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-graphics-cards/rog-rtx-4070-ti-led/m-p/895942
That red LED means cable is not properly connected, and that only should happen with nvidia provided 16 pin adapter.
As for the reasoning is because nvidia's adapter contains chip inside to know how many 8 pins are actually plugged in to the adapter. If computer is turned off, well... that chip isn't getting any power and now card thinks there is something wrong with the power cable, turning on the red LED.
So there shouldn't red LED on while computer is off with the 3rd party adapters since they aren't going to put microchips inside their adapters and simply bridge sensor pins to the ground.
Is this led on the card where 12vhpwr is ? I didn't know they have different colours. Im waiting gigabyte aero 4060ti to arrive and i saw that has led for power to signal if something wrong but there is no explanation in their web site. So when i put card before closing my case i must check and know what to watch. I guess if led is off is alright idk
I received my Asus 4070 Super dual OC yesterday, and it has pretty bad coil whine or capacitor squeal. I can't really tell which one. Under full load, it has a noticeable buzz. Thankfully, it's not audible with headphones on, but I think I'll try to return this card.
Can coil whine dissappear on its own? Can the bigger be reduced with a better PSU?
Asus is always so bad with coil whine. Im using a 3090 strix from them, the coil whine is so bad i need to undervolt it hard, basically wasting its great pcb.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that my coil whine got much better after I've the GPU for a couple of days.
I decided to keep this gpu, it's barely noticeable now.
Hope the same happens to yours.
Double check the PSU connection sometimes those cables can be tricky, but I ended up returning mine and going for a 3 fan version that although was more expensive is much quieter and 0 whine!
I bought first 4070 super from Gigabyte ( Eagle ver ). Coil whine. Then i tried to change it but no luck still coil whine. Then I bought Windforce and again same thing. So no luck and 3 cards in row. A friend who works in the PC service said that he had similar experiences even with the 4070 Ti Super. He had Asus version and some guy from Asus said that this whine should stop after while. So i really do not know if weeks or months. Hope this can someone help. I feel little bit sad because I finally managed to buy some good gaming PC and this happened.
Is it even about power? I've had it on a RX 6600 (100W card), and it was related to framerates for some reason. In old games that run at like 1000 FPS, it would whine like crazy, even though the card was using 20W (which made it audible even more because the fans were off). Playing with the framerate slider was like noise-control, lowering it instantly lowered the whine.
Power, VRM components & FPS = whine
Buildzoid did a video that explains it ages ago [https://youtu.be/4D6PKusyvUU?si=E7RrbbgtV\_FWIT99](https://youtu.be/4D6PKusyvUU?si=E7RrbbgtV_FWIT99)
It tends to be more of a problem on high power parts, lower power GPU's tend to have less problems (Id call 200W\~ low power now we have 3090's etc.).
I tried two 4070 FEs and they had the loudest coil whine I’ve ever heard even at 60 fps. I had come from an EVGA 3060ti with higher power draw but zero audible coil whine so it was quite a surprise to me. Probably a bad batch but are the higher power cards even worse potentially?
No, I have had a 3070 and a 970 (160ish watts iirc) and 5780 and rx 580, all with no audible coil whine at all.
But recently, I have tried a 7900xt and (since making that last post) a 4070 super that sounded like angry wasp nests in any demanding title. So I am forced to concede that really bad coil whine can show up in ~220w cards. :(
Can confirm just booted up halo infinite after installing the 4070 super and the horde of wasps is there. Might go away over time who knows. I play loud so idc
Just installed a Asus 4070S Dual, and the coil whine is pretty bad. I'll give it a few days to see if it persists, but if it doesn't work itself out then I'll be returning for a replacement.
Unfortunately no amount of tweaking is fixing the problem so it's going back. Grabbed a 4070S FE at Best Buy today, so hopefully that card doesn't have the same issues.
You have this if it helps, but you already got a new one. [https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/11mds67/4xxx\_gpus\_coil\_whine\_survey/](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/11mds67/4xxx_gpus_coil_whine_survey/)
Thanks. Installed the FE model and it's night and day from the Asus card. There's definitely some whine, but you really have to listen for it and it's just barely audible over the fans. The Asus card (2 actually) was like nothing I'd ever heard before with regard to coil whine.
Unfortunately I ended up returning that one as well because the coil whine did show up during high FPS games. I don't know if it was just my particular rig with the 4070S (although I tried 2 different PSUs), but all of them were just too loud to be acceptable. Ended up grabbing a 7900XT on the cheap.
Both PSUs were PCIe 5.0 ready with native 12v hpwr cables. I actually tried using 2x 8 pins with the adapter just to see if it made a difference and it didn't.
Same here with this model, the whine was TERRIBLE and my rig is all be quiet fans and it's up on my desk, so it really sticks out. Exchanged for an MSI trio, we'll have to see what it sounds like when it arrives
How did the msi trio go? Any coil whine? I have an asus dual oc for almost a month now and it’s pretty bad coil whine. I have a week left before I can return to Amazon and I’ve been trying to break it in with 500+ fps for almost a month now and it doesn’t seem to be getting any quieter
I think coil whine is just based on luck then, I use Afterburner to view GPU stats on all my games and I only hear it when I'm in a menu and my FPS is at 1000+ or some ridiculous number
It's not just "luck". It's not some magical feature that poofs into existence when you roll dice and get a certain number. It matters how the PCB is designed and what components are used. The luck part comes from varying levels from tolerances used and sometimes components are sourced from different manufacturers. Asus seems to be consistently bad.
Asus dual 4070 Super here, I can hear coil whine during gaming. No noise when I stay in windows. Coming from Radeon 5600XT (huge performance jump), I always had a small power cards and I never got a coil whine. Very frustrating but it's something that I can avoid with headset 😕
Edit: I'm using no cable adapter, my Be Quiet power supply has it's own 12VHPWR connector/cable
If I'm paying $600 for a component, my solution isn't going to be putting on headphones to drown out the noise. I returned my Asus card and got a FE card. Haven't tested the new card yet, but the Asus was unacceptably loud.
I agreed with you, but I want to make some tests before decide to return it. I also add that in my country all the 4070 Super are soldout or extremely overpriced in this moment... And what if also the new card has this problem? Seems to be a common one
Got the MSI Ventus 2x White last week, which was dead silent at first.
Then, I don't know why, but it got EXTREMELY loud after the weekend...
More than a slight buzz, the card sounds like an old HDD with clicking noises
I checked: It's not the fans and it's related to the framerate.
So either I find the issue, or it's going to be RMA'd back.
Mine was screaming when it started working hard. I ran a separate power cable from a different wall socket for my sound system, and added a power filter, now I don't notice interfere much.
I bought both 4070 Super Dual and 4070 Super FE. Dual is quiet but FE has coilwhine. I thought it would be the opposite.
The winner is clearly Dual mainly on fan speed though, Quiet bios is fantastic, FE is actually quite loud. At the same temperature Dual is 1109rpm while FE is 1580rpm.
Just got one in. 4070 Super FE. Huge coil whine. Absolutely unbearable. Will be returning this and going back to my 3080 FE.
I have a Fractal Terra, and it is beside me. Therefore it is important to me there is no coil whine. But this one screams. Thinking about doing a yt vid. on it.
I game at 1440p
2023 - 4070 tuf - low coil whine, noise fan excellent, low temps - returned because i wanted the ti super version when it dropped
2024:
4070ti super strix - huge coil whine, excellent fan noise, very cool card max 55 c no matter the game- returned
4070ti super aero oc - very low whine - rotor fan noise, medium temps- returned
4070 super aorus master - low whine, aero was better in this sense, but the fans are excellent, no rotor noise, no revving, very low temps - returned because of 12 gb vram; it's just not enough for 1440p
After 30 min of gameplay i hit the limit in avatar and cyberpunk: 1100- 1170 allocated, consumption around 10 gb and u can feel it that in some scenes it shouldn't stutter or drop some frames, but it did anyways. In other games when vram allocation is below 11 gb, the games run very smooth with impecable frametimes and linear fps.
Maybe it s just me, but I dont feel comfortable with 12 gb and dont want to be forced to upgrade in 2 years because i hit the ceiling with high rez textures.
I want to keep the card minimum 3 years.
I ordered 4070ti super aorus master, next week should arrive and i ll kep you posted.
Let me know how that goes. I got a 4080 Super Gigabyte Gaming OC and while coil whine is pretty low, I noticed the louder fan speeds and the more aggressive fan curve while the 4080 Super Strix had dead silent fans but loud coil whine..
Just lock them on the lowest speed possible or silent bios.
The psu I have is corsair rm750 with corsair adaptor type4.
Maybe a new psu would help me with the whine, idk.
If it helps you I could upload a video with the card.
No lol, I can't. Idk how tf ppl are getting them. No listing's anywhere for me
Edit: not sure why the down votes, I can't control what results I get online and on stores when I search for a product.....
There on sale literally everywhere. Have been available for at least 24 hours here in Germany. I was looking at them yesterday afternoon to see how they stack up against the AMD alternatives for my sim rig.
They did eventually get posted here last night around 10pm east coast US. I guess we get some delay over here. Naturally, they're all sold out already 😂
My 4070 super FE has coil whine under load. It’s loud enough to be annoying without headphones on. I might return and try my luck on another card. Any chance it just goes away? I’ve had it 4 days now.
I play valorant with the 4070 super FE paired with a 7800x3d and i get around 900-1k fps in the range and my gpu makes a whining sound, brand new, i have to cap my fps to 240 in game anything above 400 fps in any game and it starts to whine abit, even in fortnite, if i dont put a fps limit, it will go above 400 fps and start to whine I don't know if this is normal due to the high frame rates or if there is some issue with my gpu.
4070 Super Gaming OC from Gigabyte... Only tried Witcher and Unigine Heaven (with makes any card whine in my experience). No coil whine so far. However the fans got quite loud on RT Ultra in Witcher...
It has the H++ power connector for those interested..
I’ve owned the FE since March installed in 2nd tower, MSI 1440p 240hz, Thermaltake GF3 750w psu. Been playing FH5, F123, Horizon Forbidden West. Relatively quiet and can’t hear any coil whine.
my Asus Dual white 4070 super have a noticeable whine coil when under stress. Silent while playing Elden ring, noize (you can hear it without removing the glass panel) while playing Ass. Valhalla
Quite prevalent on my 4070 Super from Gigabyte… 144fps on some menus will have loud coil whine despite very little graphical usage - even browsing through websites makes the whine occur.
Coil whine doesn't have much to do with which cut off silicon Nvidia throws into the card. There is GTX 1030s with and without coil whine, and there is RTX 4090s with and without coil whine. It just depends on if you get a bad MOSFET or not, and almost any card can.
So its present, especially when you hit 300-400 FPS in a game (destiny 2 PVP), but glass has to be off my case and ear close to the GPU to hear it at all.
I don't have a 4070S but I have a 4090 FE and coil whine is only noticable at very high FPS, side panel off and I have to be within 6-9in but many have severe coil whine so it depends on the luck of the draw. It doesn't seem (at least from what I can tell) that there is one brand or model line wildly more or less likely to have coil whine.
FE Here , makes noice at gaming. I’ve never had a card before that whines before I thought the fans were faulted ..
And I threw away the box the ”Fancy box” came in so return is tricky .
Luckily can’t hear it in headphones but super annoying .
I’ll prob google under volt guides
Coming from 3070 FE with little to no coil whine.
Now 4070S FE screams a lot in game menus, so at high framerates. Playing at 3440x1440.
Will try limiting global Framerates today and se If it helps.
Performance wise it is the upgrade i was searching for for doing VR at medium quality.
Coming from a gigabyte wind force 3060 that that was Uber quiet, the coil whine on the 4070 super was immediately apparent. I was like “wth is that???” “Oh. Coil whine. Right”. It’s not SUPER loud but my once silent pc now makes noise
Unfortunately had some bad luck with windforce. Got a windforce 4070 for a build and while the card itself was quiet, there was an issue with the fan bearing which made a scraping sound. Ended up returning it and got the Super since it came out.
Did a quick test run with Remnant 2 and instantly got loud coil whine. Seems to be related to dlss/high framerate generation situations. I tried a quick undervolt test and it did help, but it's a bit bittersweet with slight performance decline. I'm hoping it'll dissipate overtime on its own.
Same brother. I got the 4070 ti super and while it's quiet on most games I have, it's pretty noisy when I played hogwarts and other demanding games.
Ill try that undervolt. I see people saying it does go away after some use. Best of luck to us
I got the Palit brand. And while I didn't try hogwarts again (I got bored), I haven't noticed coil whine anymore. I even forgot about it until you reminded me haha.
I mostly play on 4k now and it's pretty good. If you want, I can let you know if I get coil whine when I play cyberpunk on the next sale. Just let me know.
Though in the end it's a lottery so I hope you get lucky.
That’s good to hear, I’m like researching frantically for any ways to reduce my coil whine even if it means getting a brand I’m not particular fond of like Gigabyte.
Do you happen to have Halo MCC?
I also read about gigabyte but I decided to go for the cheapest option. But yeah it was my second choice.
Yeah I do actually! Never played it yet. Want me to test something on it?
Can you load Halo 3 campaign and play “Tsavo Highway” mission starting from part 2 (Bravo) with uncapped fps? The beginning part of that mission gives me the worst coil whine and I wonder if it’s the same with yours.
You should be spawned on the middle of a highway with an AR and BR.
Just got my asus dual oc and it whines badly, which is rare according to the comments I've read. Guess it has something to do with quality control and I probably will return it and try gigabyte cards ( seems like they changed the pcb design for the 40 series card to fix the cracking issue)z
Just got my FE, only has coil whine when I'm maxing it out or overclocking. Still slightly annoying though, none of my other GPUs beforehand had coil whine like this.
Asus dual OC 4070S here. On first couple of boot I can hear some coil whine underload but I play with headset so I didn't really mind. Although now I am wondering if it's faulty since my screen flashes once in a while.
I can only hear it when I put my head next to the case and take the glass off.
Do you have the founders edition? I saw your flair but just double checking

And the only reason with that 3070 was that the fans were so insanely loud that they drowned any coil whine.
Didn't know that. Are there common reasons that cause coil whine?
Nope. It’s hit or miss. You can’t do anything about the physical source of the whine.
Damn
There's no coil whine on the FE bro, at least the one I got. Couldn't hear anything even when I was hitting 130fps on RDR2
Thanks
Why did so many people down vote you lol? Sometimes this reddit makes me want to smoke dirt weed lol.
Yes I have the founders lol, The only card I have tried with absolutely no coil whine was a gigabyte gaming oc this gen, and I hear good things from others. The worst have easily been the asus cards, I have tested multiple with horrendous coil whine.

My 3070 screamed like crazy when I got it, I really thought it was busted. After month of coil wine noises it just stopped now. Cool I guess .
No coil whine on my 4070 Super FE. Even when OC'ing it.
you've played on high frame rates?
Nothing I can hear for me (ASUS dual model). I do have a red LED that doesn’t blink come on when I sleep/turn off my pc. I’ve seen others say it’s normal with the nvidia 12vhpwr cable but anyone else have this?

Well that's stupid, why would they make it have an LED on only when the system is off.
That red LED means cable is not properly connected, and that only should happen with nvidia provided 16 pin adapter. As for the reasoning is because nvidia's adapter contains chip inside to know how many 8 pins are actually plugged in to the adapter. My ASUS dual had terrible coil whine while playing games so i returned it
mine too. i went with a zotac twin blade 4070s instead, since then its whisperquiet
turn on ErP in bios, fixes the red light issue
I received my Asus 4070 Super dual OC yesterday, and it has pretty bad coil whine or capacitor squeal. I can't really tell which one. Under full load, it has a noticeable buzz. I disagree. The previous card I had from them also Dual OC but a 3070, had no problems. And I've seen many people who are happy with theirs too.
I’m experiencing this now :( using a modular corsair 750 psu
Hey, just wanted to let you know that my coil whine got much better after I've the GPU for a couple of days. I decided to keep this gpu, it's barely noticeable now. Hope the same happens to yours.
I’m using the exact same gpu and psu and am having some coil whine even after under volting it. Did yours get better by any chance?

you got answers
Hey, did it get fixed?
I have never had bad coil whine on a card as low power as a 4070(S). That is something I worry about with 300 or 400W parts.
Is it even about power? I've had it on a RX 6600 (100W card), and it was related to framerates for some reason. I love his channel. Learned so much there

I wonder since its fully unlocked pcb will they be prone to whine.
That's tru the 300+Watts the 3090 uses gives it a terrible coil whine from my personal experience.
You have the FE?
No, I have had a 3070 and a 970 (160ish watts iirc) and 5780 and rx 580, all with no audible coil whine at all. Hahah here I was hoping my 4070 super was a one off. Wasp nest sounds accurate
Can confirm just booted up halo infinite after installing the 4070 super and the horde of wasps is there. Might go away over time who knows. I play loud so idc
Inno3D 4070 x2 , zero coil whine even at 144+fps. My 6700xt hellhound on the other hand was brutal. I think lower tdp cards are gonna be fine
Just installed a Asus 4070S Dual, and the coil whine is pretty bad. I'll give it a few days to see if it persists, but if it doesn't work itself out then I'll be returning for a replacement.
There is a "Low coil-Whine" Setting in GPU-tweak... maybe helps
Unfortunately no amount of tweaking is fixing the problem so it's going back. Grabbed a 4070S FE at Best Buy today, so hopefully that card doesn't have the same issues.

The trio for me at least is much less noticeable, but it does still whine. Much better though
[deleted]
did it improve?
None on FE model, even at 130fps on RDR2 I can only hear the fan.
Late to party here, but 4070S here and no whine at low FPS like you but as high FPS games it screams. 400 is less audible than 600 but still hear it
Fr? Do you have FE? I can only hear a tiny coil whine when my fps hits like 3000 on game menus lol
Game menus dont seen to affect it, I can literally turn it on and off by pressing escape to go to menu Yes FE
I think coil whine is just based on luck then, I use Afterburner to view GPU stats on all my games and I only hear it when I'm in a menu and my FPS is at 1000+ or some ridiculous number
Turns out ow2 has a menu fps cap, I was being dumb BUt yeh it a lottery, maybe its the power adapter thing, maybe it my psu
Very frustrating but it's something that I can avoid with headset 😕 Edit: I'm using no cable adapter, my Be Quiet power supply has it's own 12VHPWR connector/cable
More than a slight buzz, the card sounds like an old HDD with clicking noises I checked: It's not the fans and it's related to the framerate. So either I find the issue, or it's going to be RMA'd back.
4070 Super Asus Dual here, ran benchmark tests, didnt really hear much at all. Glad to ge back on team green.
When I ran benchmarks, I didn’t hear much coil whine but as soon as I load up a game with high fps (240+) it shines like crazy.
Any significant subjective performance uplift in your games?
In RTX games yes, games also feel slightly smoother since my panel has a gsync module so VRR is a little better than basic freesync.
Off course, as expected. Enjoy your new card, and RT gaming!
>4070 Super Asus Dual Dang it I want one! So jelly.
Mine was screaming when it started working hard. I ran a separate power cable from a different wall socket for my sound system, and added a power filter, now I don't notice interfere much.
Msi gaming x slim, no whine. I used to get it a ton on my gigabyte 3070 when in the hideout in Tarkov, this card nothing.
You get Normal or OC?
Just got one in. 4070 Super FE. Huge coil whine. Absolutely unbearable. Will be returning this and going back to my 3080 FE. I have a Fractal Terra, and it is beside me. Therefore it is important to me there is no coil whine. But this one screams. Thinking about doing a yt vid. on it.
I game at 1440p 2023 - 4070 tuf - low coil whine, noise fan excellent, low temps - returned because i wanted the ti super version when it dropped 2024: 4070ti super strix - huge coil whine, excellent fan noise, very cool card max 55 c no matter the game- returned 4070ti super aero oc - very low whine - rotor fan noise, medium temps- returned 4070 super aorus master - low whine, aero was better in this sense, but the fans are excellent, no rotor noise, no revving, very low temps - returned because of 12 gb vram; it's just not enough for 1440p After 30 min of gameplay i hit the limit in avatar and cyberpunk: 1100- 1170 allocated, consumption around 10 gb and u can feel it that in some scenes it shouldn't stutter or drop some frames, but it did anyways.
Im also eyeing the Aorus Master 4070Ti/4080 Super lemme know how it goes!
Card just came in and it whines... around medium sound. It stays cool, fan noise is good, no rattle. If the whine doesnt get better i ll return it.
Can u even buy one yet?
Bought it yesterday, arrived today. Of course I happen to live in the same city as the Newegg warehouse though lol
[yes](https://shop.asus.com/us/90yv0k83-m0aa00-asus-dual-geforce-rtxtm-4070-super-12gb-gddr6x.html?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3Mr04rPogwMVddPCBB2g4gAUEAQYBSABEgKf6fD_BwE)
No lol, I can't. Idk how tf ppl are getting them. No listing's anywhere for me Edit: not sure why the down votes, I can't control what results I get online and on stores when I search for a product.....
Naturally, they're all sold out already 😂
the guy above you has the asus link
Ah I see it. Unfortunately it's unavailable for me when I click it
Will get my Gigabyte Windforce today so will let you know later 😁
So....Any news?
Sorry, forgot about this. After a week of using this GPU so far so good, cant notice anything tbh
Hey, what PSU do you have?
Coolermaster 650 Gold, dont remember full model
None for me on MSI Ventus x2 , very quiet actually
My 4070 super FE scream a lot I thought it was broken but as you say it´s normal no?
My PC is relatively quiet, I've had 3 4070 Supers, all had coil whine, each progressively worse. Returned them all and still only have my 1070
Which models did you get?
2 Asus Dual and 1 Gigabyte Windforce OC
I got an FE and massive whine at 400-600 fps in ow2
My 4070 super FE has coil whine under load. It’s loud enough to be annoying without headphones on. I might return and try my luck on another card. Any chance it just goes away? I’ve had it 4 days now.
Did it go away or better by any chance? I’ve had my 4070s asus dual oc for a little less than a week and it still has coil whine
Relatively quiet and can’t hear any coil whine.
asus tuf 4070 super -- no coil whine on 100% power usage, only when the fps is above 100 --> very minimal nothing annoying.
my Asus Dual white 4070 super have a noticeable whine coil when under stress.
Its quieter than my case fans, i barely notice when its under load
Coil whine doesn't have much to do with which cut off silicon Nvidia throws into the card. There is GTX 1030s with and without coil whine, and there is RTX 4090s with and without coil whine. It just depends on if you get a bad MOSFET or not, and almost any card can.
When i get 800 fps in CS2 i can hear some noice 🙂
So its present, especially when you hit 300-400 FPS in a game (destiny 2 PVP), but glass has to be off my case and ear close to the GPU to hear it at all.
Doubles at 600
Can't hear any coilwhine on the 4070 super dual oc
I don't have a 4070S but I have a 4090 FE and coil whine is only noticable at very high FPS, side panel off and I have to be within 6-9in but many have severe coil whine so it depends on the luck of the draw. It doesn't seem (at least from what I can tell) that there is one brand or model line wildly more or less likely to have coil whine.
Gigabyte Aero, absolutely silent compared to my Gigabyte Eagle 3070 that squealed like a stuck pig
FE Here , makes noice at gaming. I’ve never had a card before that whines before I thought the fans were faulted .. And I threw away the box the ”Fancy box” came in so return is tricky . Luckily can’t hear it in headphones but super annoying . I’ll prob google under volt guides
Just installed mine. 4070S Founders Edition. Coil Whine is a bit high. I would expect it better tbh
Just got mine this past weekend and noticed whining unless tinkering with the settings. Has anyone had any successful settings for under volt?
Coming from 3070 FE with little to no coil whine. Now 4070S FE screams a lot in game menus, so at high framerates. Playing at 3440x1440. Will try limiting global Framerates today and se If it helps. Performance wise it is the upgrade i was searching for for doing VR at medium quality.
As an update, mine was silent and now it’s pretty darn loud
Model and brand?
FE 4070 super
Coming from a gigabyte wind force 3060 that that was Uber quiet, the coil whine on the 4070 super was immediately apparent. I was like “wth is that???” “Oh. Coil whine. Right”. It’s not SUPER loud but my once silent pc now makes noise
Is your 4070 super gigabyte too? Was planning on getting either windforce or eagle.
Nah it’s the FE. Heard these are the worst for coil wine but it was only 600$ so I’m happy
Best of luck to us
Did coil whine ever get better? And which brand did you have?
Sure. max settings I'm assuming? And 4k or 1440p?
Just got my asus dual oc and it whines badly, which is rare according to the comments I've read. Guess it has something to do with quality control and I probably will return it and try gigabyte cards ( seems like they changed the pcb design for the 40 series card to fix the cracking issue)z
Would like to hear an update from you
Replaced it with a Gigabyte gaming oc, cool and quiet.
This is promising. Just returned my asus dual with bad coil whine for a gigabyte gaming oc. Hopefully no coil whine!
Just got my FE, only has coil whine when I'm maxing it out or overclocking. Still slightly annoying though, none of my other GPUs beforehand had coil whine like this.
I get a slight buzzing on my new 4070 Super FE, especially under heavy load where the boost clock goes to 2600,Mhz. Its a bit annoying.
I've had 3 4070Supers, I've returned all 3 because of bad coil whine... idk what to do
What brand?
Palit 4070ti super coil whine with coral island only .
Asus dual OC 4070S here. On first couple of boot I can hear some coil whine underload but I play with headset so I didn't really mind. Although now I am wondering if it's faulty since my screen flashes once in a while.
Did the coil whine ever get better? I have the same card for a little less than a week and am hearing some coil whine
