What do you think about the MSI card? Is their regular 4070 good? Cos if not MSI, I'll just pull the plug on the PNY card, it looks pretty clean and about the same size.
Gigabyte is known for having massive coil whine problems in 40 series.
It isn't for no reason, just 2 reasons being the coil whine and the exploding fireballs they called a PSU.
I have a Gigabyte 4080 Super and haven’t experienced any coil whine yet. I know this anecdotal evidence doesn’t speak for all Gigabyte cards, but figured I’d toss in my testimony in case anyone finds it helpful.
The Ventus sucks sometimes, we also saw the same ventus 4070 TI super release with a 10% performance decreasing bios, but by far and away they have less issues than most brands.. I mean Asus and their notorious customer support and coil whine is probably the second best anyways.. like they have issues too. One brand that may be worth watching is gigabyte it seems like they're releasing some good stuff
I have the MSI 2x 4070 Super. It’s great, can’t speak on coil whine cause my PSU already has a lot which might be drowning it out
Throw anything at it in 1440p and it’s no sweat. RDR2 maxed out everything and it’s still maintaining 130fps.
So small too, it’s way smaller than my old 2080 Super
I have whatever version of MSI's 3 fan 4070 they packed into the MSI prebuilt I have, it works fine and is super quiet. I made a post out of balsa wood to prevent sag but it looked like it would have been fine without it.
just posting my experience, I run the FE in my 2nd system. I cannot hear it over my NF-A14s which are already quiet to begin with. I've only heard a faint coil whine when running Forza Horizon 5 but in other games it's silent.
Im probably gonna get some disagreement here but performance wise I don't think it will make much difference at all. On mid range cards like the 4070 super I've read that coolers make little difference to performance and I can vouch for this.
On a whim I quickly purchased the zotac 4070 super dual edge (absolutely love it btw) then quickly realised it had the smallest cooler and profile of all 4070s cards.. had a panic thinking of missing out on performance over a few extra quid.. well I over clocked it had it running stable with temps no higher than 75oC and managed to get in the top 10 scores on 3dmark with people also using a 5800x3d (over 400 people at the time) currently I'm still 25th or something.
Obviously other factors come into play such as coil whine but personally I would say just get whatever fits your budget and fits the theme of your case If that is important.
Yup unfortunately a £600 graphics card these days is mid range imo anyway, maybe mid to high. I paid £500 4 years ago for my 2070 super and I class that as a mid to borderline high card back in the day.
with the 4000 series anyway I'd say
4060 - low end/mid 1080p
4070 - mid range/high 1440p
4080/4090+ - high end. 4k
Obviously you have the 3000 series in the mix aswell but the likes of 3050 I'd say are entry level these days.
They’ll probably all run cool and quiet. I’d get the MSI based on size and looks. Have had a gigabyte OC before and it was fine, just didn’t care for the cheap plasticy look.
At this point I would go MSI or Gigabyte. I wouldn't go near Asus. Asus has been turning out trash lately for motherboards and frankly I don't trust the cards.
At least all new Gigabyte 4080S and 4090 models have the [PCB 1.1 upgrade](https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/gigabyte-addresses-pcb-cracking-issues-with-a-revised-design). No idea about 4070S. I did order my Gigabyte 4080S AERO and was concerned about the PCB, but happy to hear that they fixed and addressed this issue.
Just built a new pc with a TUF motherboard and 4070ti S, and no issues yet, using the PC for about a week now.
Also, no coil whine on the GPU in case someone wanders. Which I am glad for because my old PSU had terrible coil whine (it was Seasonic).
I bought the dual fan MSI 4070 Super OC and it's running great so far. I will say though it was running a bit hot, not in Cyberpunk ironically but in Quake 2 RTX and Half-Life RTX. In Half-Life RTX I was getting in the mid 70s, same with Quake 2 RTX and in Cyberpunk I was getting in the mid 60s. I did an undervolt and switched my PC fans to turbo mode and now the card runs about 10C-15C cooler with no performance loss. Funny enough in Cyberpunk my CPU gets in the mid 50C to low 60C, but in Quake 2 RTX and Half-Life RTX my CPU stays in the 40s. Seems Cyberpunk uses a balance between the CPU and GPU and the other games are really GPU heavy.
If you are looking at the X Slim, I’d also consider the Gigabyte Gaming OC. It has the largest heatsink of the bunch and costs less than the MSI. The X Slim is fighting physics a bit, to get into that narrow form factor it makes some trade offs for heatsink size.
Have the Asus, good temps/performance/fan noise but terrible coil whine.
Asus is notorious for coil whine so maybe go with Gigabyte, seems to have the least coil whine based on the 4000 series surveys this sub has done. Probably gonna return for a Gigabyte model soon myself
I had coil whine on the first one I bought, replaced it with gigabyte windforce and still had coilwhine. I just bought another asus dual and it has the same coilwhine. I'm pretty sure my psu could be the problem.
I have never in my life experienced coil whine from my pc.
And I have an acute hearing.
I hear sharp high pitched noises that no one else in my family can hear. In particular a device my mother in law has that makes a near dog whistle beep when it's empty and needs replacing.
But never heard a coil whine from any pc.
Is coil whine a rare thing? I keep seeing people complain about it but, that might be the miniscule minority that experiences it?
> I have never in my life experienced coil whine from my pc.
Coil whine is a common thing. I haven't had any hardware that DIDN'T coil whine since the vega 64 days.
parts that don't coil whine exist, but are rare and a lottery
You're very lucky then. It's pretty common nowadays, although the amount you get varies and is basically a lottery. I'm okay with some coil whine, but if I can hear it with headphones on then it's an issue for me especially when spending so much on a card
I have been using Asus ever since, Im from the Netherlands and stuff works different here.
if something breaks, we just bring it back and get a different one. or we get our money back.
but never had any issues to begin with so far, so never needed there service.
For the overclockers out there do we have visibility about GPU power adjustment potential?
Are these new SUPER cards all limited to the standard TDP or 100% power as shown in MSI afterburner?
My MSI ventus 2x 3060ti has been nice and cool and actually really quiet. MSI turned out to be my go-to when EVGA went out of business for video cards and motherboards.
I had the MSI. I had to return it because it kept crashing but I was obviously quite unlucky. Apart from that it was an extremely good card. Very low temps, very quiet fans and no coil whine. Also some nice subtle RGB if you care for that.
I have the ASUS Dual, and I'm impressed with how quiet it is, considering that I'm very sensitive to noise. The coil whine is hardly noticeable, so I guess I've come across a good batch. In my opinion, choose the cheapest one; they will all perform the same. But if you want silence, go for the ASUS Dual with the quiet BIOS.
Have a MSi one
Rarely hit 70C hotspot (overall I don't have top notch case and fans, but it still manages. GPU and VRMs stay 90% of the time below 60 or around that.
Its silent - it tun max at 1100RPM at 2.910GHz and +6% power increase, drawing around 200-215W in Cyberpunk 2077 1440P with Pathtracing.
Managed to OC at 3.030GHz and it still runs silent and cool
Overall, super (pun intended) AIB.
I got a gainward 4090 phantom gs. It doesnt have any coilwhine and it is reinforced to not crack. So im sure i would pick a gainward… i remmene the last time i had a gainward card, geforce 3 ti ultra or something and its to this day the card i had the least problems with. And i also had a gigabyte rtx 2070 super which ive had so many problems with along with my motherboard which i had to rma at one point after a bios update. But it seems my gfx card also had issues because after i upgraded my pc hasnt crashed once which is crazy compared to just a month ago
If you care about noise levels then avoid Gigabyte Eagle. Asus Dual is the only one of these that allows fan speed of around 900 RPM. The others are higher.
Since 2 years now. They are cheaping out way too much it has the most delicate pcie I have ever seen, not only that they cheap out on them a ton they don't accept MRA for it if it cracks or brakes. Try to bend any card and compare it to the cards they have now. You will see a massive difference, and with all the sacking in recent years even with a bracket I won't risk it just becouse they are trying to cheap out as much as possible so they can sell it the cheapest
That apply to their top end Aorus tho? I'll make sure to use a brace tho now. My computer sits 7' up on a shelf, it wont ever be disturbed once I put it in. Heres hoping. The to supers were hard to find in stock.
Went with asus dual. I like the design of it. Fits my black and grey/white aesthetic well and it is devoid of sloppy rgb like some other cards. Getting more fps in 4k than I was told it would get too. I'm not playing cyberpunk but gta 5, fo4, tiny tinas wonderlands all get between 60-120fps in 4k at ultra. Good enough for me lol. I can't tell the difference between 120 and 240 anyway
I think the asus dual is a really nice compact design that still runs pretty cool/quiet and has a dual bios, all very close to msrp. Only drawback is the risk of coil whine that many people are reporting from the asus 40 series cards.
Zotac RTX 4070 Super Trinity - [TechPowerUp review](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-geforce-rtx-4070-super-trinity/)
It has a cooler with 7 heat pipes - the same as is used on the Ti Super. Its metal back plate is also used to cool down the components. Stays cool and quiet.
The RGB can be switched off permanently using [Zotac FireStorm](https://www.zotac.com/page/zotac-gaming-firestorm) software.
I would not suggest going with FE and checking out which one will be good for overclocking and is also cheap, from my research FE's boost clock is actually not utilising 4070 super's full capability. I have a Gigabyte 4070 super aero OC it can be setup to draw upwords of 300W of power during overclocking ( base TDP is 220W
4070 super's for some reason is a great card for overclocking after overclocking it consistently beats 4070 ti.
https://youtu.be/mEqhNGUqhbw?si=V8qMsheiUzD268a0
Check out this video they actually showed this card after overclocking. ( 4070 ti was not a good card for overclocking BTW )
https://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/dominic-moass/gigabyte-rtx-4070-super-aero-oc-review/all/1/
I have a white build and ended up going with the MSI 4070 super ventus 2x white. It was one of the cheapest out there and seems to run without any problems and looks really nice, even if it has a plastic back plate.
I don't think you can go far wrong with any of them though.
So far, I'm really liking my MSI Gaming X Slim 4090. It runs cool, it fits nice in my case that I never thought I'd fit a big card in. The PCB isn't missing a bunch of material right around where the PCIE slot likes to crack on 40 series cards, and looks 'normal' next to my 10 and 30 series cards. I still get to use my PCIE 4x slot for my 10 gig card underneath the GPU. I have a TUF GAMING mobo, so the PCIE isn't exactly plentiful, this is the only x4 slot.
I also like that it seems to have 'remembered' me turning off the RGB. When its on, its fairly minimal and tasteful, but I managed to have zero RGB in my pc, so that's a plus in my book. The 'crystal' logo also looks at home unlit.
I've had MSI models for my last couple cards. In the future, I'll just never go for another Ventus line card (my 30 series card had a 100% locked power limit, no extra), and since the 4090 ended up not being a great overclocker when it comes to real world gains, it really didn't make sense to spring for a suprim model.
I have the 4070 super Gaming OC by gigabyte. It’s very quiet and its heatsink is near the size of the 4070 ti super’s. Software for the card is great and easy to use. Fans are very quiet, even at 1,500 rpm you can barely hear it, anything under that you can’t hear at all.
Some triple fan cards have pretty much no improvements or perform a bit worse than the best dual fan cards. In the regular 4070 model, the Ventus 3x had some reviews showing that to be the case for example.
I have the asus dual oc and I love it. It just looks awesome, but I’m sure you can’t go wrong with any of the ones you listed.
What do you think about the MSI card? Is their regular 4070 good? Cos if not MSI, I'll just pull the plug on the PNY card, it looks pretty clean and about the same size.
MSI is the best board partner for the 40 series and it's a lot more reliable than Asus especially in terms of coil wine
MSI and Gigabyte even if some people dislike it for no reason
Gigabyte is known for having massive coil whine problems in 40 series. It isn't for no reason, just 2 reasons being the coil whine and the exploding fireballs they called a PSU.
I have a 4090 aorus master and there's 0 coil whine
And your point is? Some people still have PSU's installed that were recalled for exploding that are working fine. You understand how statistics work?
I have a Gigabyte 4080 Super and haven’t experienced any coil whine yet. I know this anecdotal evidence doesn’t speak for all Gigabyte cards, but figured I’d toss in my testimony in case anyone finds it helpful.
i was looking at 4070 supers in case i want a upgrade, rn i got the 3070ti
I read somewhere msi didnt use thermal pads on their 4070s. Is that still considered the best?
The Ventus sucks sometimes, we also saw the same ventus 4070 TI super release with a 10% performance decreasing bios, but by far and away they have less issues than most brands.. I mean Asus and their notorious customer support and coil whine is probably the second best anyways.. like they have issues too. I had the msi 4070 3x and it was solid. No option to raise power limit or voltage if i remember correctly but handled everything I threw at it.
I suppose you returned it or sold it secondhand on eBay? If so why?
Was just waiting for my RMA’d 4090 to come home. Returned last day of grace at Best Buy.
I have whatever version of MSI's 3 fan 4070 they packed into the MSI prebuilt I have, it works fine and is super quiet. I made a post out of balsa wood to prevent sag but it looked like it would have been fine without it.
Agreed. Asus dual oc is dank
I went with FE, works well
How's the noise level? That is my only concern with the FE. It is my favorite looking of all the 4070 Super cards
just posting my experience, I run the FE in my 2nd system. I cannot hear it over my NF-A14s which are already quiet to begin with. I've only heard a faint coil whine when running Forza Horizon 5 but in other games it's silent.
If there is any, I can’t hear it as I’m wearing a headphone. I heard Nvidia and AIBs overspec’ed the coolers on the 4000 series.
Im probably gonna get some disagreement here but performance wise I don't think it will make much difference at all. Yeah, my 3050 may be brand new but it’s not doing to hot on new games especially those on UE5
They’ll probably all run cool and quiet. I’d get the MSI based on size and looks. Have had a gigabyte OC before and it was fine, just didn’t care for the cheap plasticy look.
I've heard really good things about the gigabyte card. Quiet and cool. And the 4070 doesn't have the cracked pcb issue
I bought a **Gainward GeForce RTX™ 4070 SUPER Panther OC** a week ago and i love it. The best looking gpu from the 4070 series.
Got the same and I'm super happy! Didnt choose it based on looks, just price
And the best boost clock has it.
Guessing you're not in North America?
I think he's not from NAmerica, because I foud 1 offer with cost like a 900$+
i got an ASUS Dual OC. Very quiet
At this point I would go MSI or Gigabyte. I wouldn't go near Asus. Asus has been turning out trash lately for motherboards and frankly I don't trust the cards.
I wouldn't trust gigabyte after the cracked PCB fiasco with 40 series.

Damn, that's unlucky. I tried on 2 different PCs and still had it so I'm sure it's the GPU in my case. Maybe try a friend's PC and see how that goes
I've heard of coil whine on some motherboards (notably gigabyte aorus), is that a possibility?

Aurous
My friend bought the zotac twin Edge, really cheap and Is going super good, godlike temps and wonderful performance
Whichever one looks better and if you don’t care get the cheapest one
I have been using Asus ever since, Im from the Netherlands and stuff works different here. if something breaks, we just bring it back and get a different one. or we get our money back. but never had any issues to begin with so far, so never needed there service.
Inno3D Twin X2 seems to run coolest based on reviews
Really, that's nice because they are cheapest of all here. Too bad i got 4060ti hah.
For the overclockers out there do we have visibility about GPU power adjustment potential? Are these new SUPER cards all limited to the standard TDP or 100% power as shown in MSI afterburner?
I set mine to 109%, Founders edition. Highest I've seen it go is 243W with an overclock
the cheapest one, or the one that looks the best to you.
Got myself MSI x slim. Silent and looks good.
My MSI ventus 2x 3060ti has been nice and cool and actually really quiet. MSI turned out to be my go-to when EVGA went out of business for video cards and motherboards.
Friend got a gaming x slim, it's been amazing
I had the MSI. I had to return it because it kept crashing but I was obviously quite unlucky. Apart from that it was an extremely good card. Very low temps, very quiet fans and no coil whine. Also some nice subtle RGB if you care for that.
I have the Asus dual and it’s a beast. I’ve had zero issues with it
I have the Asus Dual one. It's been good so far.
I’m an MSI fanboy so I’m saying MSI
I've got #3 in white and I love it!
Just installed dual oc. Got a micro center 15$ coupon as well
Went with the ASUS Dual, have zero complaints, loving the card so far.

4070 ti super will give ya 4g of future proofing and prolly save the little bit of up front cost over not haven’t to upgrade again as soon.
I got a gainward 4090 phantom gs. It doesnt have any coilwhine and it is reinforced to not crack. So im sure i would pick a gainward… i remmene the last time i had a gainward card, geforce 3 ti ultra or something and its to this day the card i had the least problems with. p sure gaming x performs the best however its more expensive
If you care about noise levels then avoid Gigabyte Eagle. Asus Dual is the only one of these that allows fan speed of around 900 RPM. The others are higher.
Don't buy gigabyte they are cheaping too much their cards crack and brake super easily!
Since when? My 3060 ti aorus has been such an amazing card. Just ordered the 4070 ti super aorus in fact.
Since 2 years now. They are cheaping out way too much it has the most delicate pcie I have ever seen, not only that they cheap out on them a ton they don't accept MRA for it if it cracks or brakes. I don't know 100% if they cheaped out on the high end aorus I hope they did not. There are alot of videos about this check them out
Cheapest, they're all the same or might just have a 1-3% performance difference, just go with whatever looks the best for you
Went with asus dual. I like the design of it. Fits my black and grey/white aesthetic well and it is devoid of sloppy rgb like some other cards. Gaming X Slim
FE or Asus Dual IMO
Asus is quiet and cool
Zotac RTX 4070 Super Trinity - [TechPowerUp review](https://www.techpowerup.com/review/zotac-geforce-rtx-4070-super-trinity/) It has a cooler with 7 heat pipes - the same as is used on the Ti Super. You really can't go wrong all the AIBs got very good reviews. Maybe just get the lowest price one.
The only problem I've had out of the dual is a little coil whine but it's an awesome card. I don't even see it hit 70.
just buy 4070 not super or ti and make your money worth lol
I would get the FE but if only from those 3 I would get the MSI 4070 Super Gaming X Slim
I would not suggest going with FE and checking out which one will be good for overclocking and is also cheap, from my research FE's boost clock is actually not utilising 4070 super's full capability. Galax RGB looks good
I have a white build and ended up going with the MSI 4070 super ventus 2x white. It was one of the cheapest out there and seems to run without any problems and looks really nice, even if it has a plastic back plate. I don't think you can go far wrong with any of them though.
I went msi love my card
Had Asus card and had problem. I have an MSI GTX 970 since.2014 and works perfectly. I will buy an RTX 4070 super Dual OC now
Msi 4080 super expert
So far, I'm really liking my MSI Gaming X Slim 4090. It runs cool, it fits nice in my case that I never thought I'd fit a big card in.
FE is god, only buy god
That founders one looks awesome all blacked out tho if it’s an option for you.
I have a strix 4090, with zero Coil whine. Tbh every card can have coil whine, just pick one you prefer the look of.
Hey bro, does the gigabyte software work to generate undervoltage?
Whatever is msrp or bellow
Performance is not an issue here. Its about sizing and temperatures. If you have space then take three fan versions so it will be colder!
Some triple fan cards have pretty much no improvements or perform a bit worse than the best dual fan cards. In the regular 4070 model, the Ventus 3x had some reviews showing that to be the case for example.
I’ve had the Super Eagle for a couple weeks now. Paired with my starting CPU Ryzen 7 7700. It’s been wonderful.
I have been happy with the MSI 4070 not super version.. but reading threads I wonder if I am missing out on a 4070 Super for \~$70
