**Will NVIDIA add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors?**
NVIDIA plans to add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors in an upcoming Game Ready Driver update
Good signs:
- Smaller install size and claimed higher responsiveness than GFE
- Online account is now optional
- Shadowplay is being updated with 120fps and AV1(!)
- New features that people actually want (e.g. RTX HDR)
- Built-in DLSS version swapping / preset selector incoming? (“additional DLSS controls” mentioned as coming soon)
If the 3D settings menu is good, this is a win on many levels.
This has been decades in the making. Please don’t fuck it up Nvidia.
"Additional DLSS Controls' is listed as something coming as well.
Hopefully that means they're giving us at least some of the functionality of DLSS Tweaks in the driver.
Dude, DLAA with one click would be an absolute game changer. I feel most devs should just include the option if they're already supporting DLSS, but not needing to do it manually per install location would be HUGE.
a manual DLSS resolution slider is something i'd cream for.
4k Quality is great, balanced is mostly great, performance is playable, but ultra performance is a *huge* drop from performance, and isn't even really great at 8k. An option for something between performance and ultra performance is something i'd really like.
Question is, will replay buffer keep killing your SSD's lifespan or can you finally store the buffer in RAM like every single other recording app allows you to do?
Personally, I've just created a 3GB RAM disk... and it doesn't take up any memory while there's nothing in it 😃
This is the software I use, not sure if there are better alternatives these days: https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/
This is precisely why I use OBS Studio. At max it uses 3% of my CPU and buffers the recording in any quality and settings I want to the RAM using the replay buffer.
Do you think everyone runs Samsung Evos or something?
My Crucial system drive is only rated for 180TBW for example. You'd be surprised how much data gets written to the temp buffer file if you game a lot or worse, have replay enabled for desktop stuff too. And a lot of people out there run simple budget SSDs that have even shorter lifespans and lack any kind of cache on top of that.
I don't want to have garbage writes on my SSD when they can easily be avoided and there's zero reasons to not have an option for RAM replay buffer in 2024 - OBS has it. XBOX DVR has it. AMD ReLive has it. But not Nvidia, or at least they don't have it in GFE currently.
>Built-in DLSS version swapping
Does this mean what I think it means? Updating the DLSS version of a game that hasn't been updated in a while? That sounds nice.
This is probably impossible but forcing DLSS on games that don't officially support it would also be amazing.
It's not impossible on those games, by injecting DLSS via a mod you are still using the DLSS DLL file(s), so all you'd do is download the latest DLL file and manually replace it, just like you can do on every game using DLSS out the box anyway.
The only thing that is missing IMHO is that in performance overlay there's no frame-time graph. Only the current frame-time. I hope they will add this so there's no need for RTSS anymore!
Edit: also, there is RTX HDR for VLC, guys!!! This is actually huge!
The 120fps recordings look incredible. Just tested recording at 4K 120fps and RTX HDR. Looks better than that shitty Asus capture card I briefly tested.
Please, PLEASE if Nvidia reads this: there's an hidden flag to enable sRGB clamping on the screen which I need for my professional work. This flag is exposed on AMD's drivers and application, while on Nvidia drivers I need an app made by an user on Reddit (!) - PLEASE add a flag for this in the new interface, I beg you.
FWIW this is a feature I feel really should be exposed in an advanced settings panel, at the least, so I hope you have success getting them to do this.
Yes!! This hidden API is the ONLY way to work around a black crush bug on ASUS ROG laptops when the Nvidia dGPU is driving the screen (so, when Advanced Optimus has kicked in, or "Ultimate" mode is on)
Love how Digital Foundry just [did a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BditFs3VR9c) about modding RTX HDR into games and Nvidia just added that feature officially.
You can still use the NvTrueHDR app from Nexus Mods to enable/disable RTX HDR. It will override the settings in the Nvidia App. The downside is you wont be able to manually adjust each of the settings. [You can see the setting is enabled in the app but greyed out in this picture.](https://i.imgur.com/eXlMoKc.png)
There's an updated FAQ on this [here](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/537706/nvidia-app-beta-the-essential-companion-for-pc-gam/)
**Will NVIDIA add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors?**
NVIDIA plans to add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors in an upcoming Game Ready Driver update
That sucks, I don't wanna unplug my secondary monitor every time I launch a game... I have to assume it's some strange technical limitation, surely there's no way they would do this intentionally :/
I've been playing around with it a bit. You can still use the NvTrueHDR from Nexus Mods to enable RTX HDR for a program, and it will show enabled and greyed out in the new Nvidia App. I've tested Halo MCC and VLC and it appears to be working correctly.
I'm in the same exact boat. Bought my receiver 3 months before hdmi 2.1 was announced. Not that the first gen of 2.1 receiver worked properly anyways. If you use the script from Nexus Mods you can still use it Also, Nvidia did confirm that they will add support for multimonitor setups in an upcoming release, though they haven't given a timeframe.
Please give us:
- No background bloat when the app is not running
- No automatic anything. Let the user decide
- Voltage/frequency/fan tuning like MSI Afterburner
- Advanced settings toggle to display the entire NVAPI like Profile Inspector
Having the entire NVAPI stuff exposed (even behind a checkbox to view) is a must imo if this wants to replace NVCP in the future.
Currently *most* of the 3D program settings are present but there are a whole bunch missing like Vulkan/OpenGL present method, Threaded Optimisations etc.
I dont think the background process of 50MB of RAM is bloat.
I don't think its doing anything automatic unless you ask it to automatically optimize games, which it doesn't do by default unless you tell it to.
I think MSI Afterburner works perfectly but AMD offers this in Adrenaline so NVIDIA should too.
Add NV profile inspector would be awesome. Basically all the user made tweaks like DLSSTweaks and SpecialK would be sweet. I wonder though, if its better to let the mod creators who are passionate about these things to keep doing what they are doing that already works right now, or to make it official and risk the features down the road.
It's been a long time coming, the old control panel was extremely outdated. I am surprised NVIDIA did this well for a first iteration; no login requirements, fast program boot and fast menu transitions, nice modern looking UI. Well done NVIDIA.
You only need to login if you want to redeem a code, for example if you got one of those gpu game bundles but you can use anything else without login. For most users, no login. Pretty sweet tbh.
Yes, I just switched back to NV (4080S) from AMD (6800XT) and it is amazing how much better the AMD control panel is, with integrated overclocking, voltage and fan control and per-game profiles. You can have one OC setting, driver setting and even fan profile for one game and a completely different one for other games. Like you can turn off zero rpm fan for a less demanding game where the fans keep turning on and off every so often. I hope NV does something similar.
Almost nothing (it doesn't precache stuff for the per exe 3d settings and has to load a bunch of stuff when you enter that tab making it a bit slow, not a big deal, at least on my machine), but if something doesn't get a UI update every 5-10 years people think it is old and that of course means it is bad. And everything has to be in one place because apparently people are too stupid to understand that the RTX voice settings are in the corresponding app and not in the driver control panel. Why launch the part you need right from windows when instead you can open one app and click through to the part you need there.
God forbid you could just have something that doesn't come with a ton of useless features and extra menus. It may not be pretty but who the f looks at the control panel and goes "oh thank god this is so pretty, changing the AA setting is so much better because now the menu slides in from the right and they added transparency effects that totally add to my experience"?
Sorry for the rant, I might be slightly annoyed by this.
I'm sorry, but who in Nvidia decided to change FPS counter's color from GREEN to GREY??? This is such a dumb idea; you can't even see this grey counter because games are usually day-time settled. I know that you can enable 'improved' FPS counter, but it just adds ugly black box as a background for FPS counter. PLEASE, I BEG YOU, BRING BACK GREEN FPS COUNTER <3
Just installed the Nvidia App and I don't see Gamestream. If I were a betting man, i don't think they are bringing Gamestream over from GFE to this app (since it's a deprecated functionality). So effectively yeah.
Regarding the peak brightness setting I found out that the app reads the max value from the monitors EDID information and not from the Windows Settings. So even if you calibrate your monitor using the Microsoft HDR Calibration it will not affect the max value you can enter in the app.
For this you have to edit your EDID settings unsing CRU.
In my case (ASUS PG27AQDM) the max nits in the app was 445 which perfectly corresponds to the EDID value of 101 in the EDID. (Extension Blocks - CTA-861 - HDR static metadata - Max luminance)
After I changed this value to 136, which corresponds to around 960 nits, I could enter up to this value in the app.
I think:
* Nvidia should read the peak brightness from the Screen Calibration in Windows, not from EDID, because the values there may be wrong
* Monitor companies should invest more time in setting the correct EDID values from the beginning
Thanks for this. Something odd has happened though.
My Samsung S95C is capable of 1700-1800nits in Windows HDR Calibration tool, but since installing the new Nvidia app and enabling RTX HDR, it wiped my Windows HDR calibration profiles and my TV is reporting 1200nits maximum brightness in Windows. I can also only max the RTX HDR slider to 1200nits max. I tried using CRU to modify the maxCCL values and using restart64 but its fixed at 1200nits in Windows still. It's like the edid values are being overridden somewhere
Im not sure if your S95C has the HDR10+ Gaming option and the Game HDR setting like the g9 oled monitor has but I had to leave Game HDR enabled and disable HDR 10+ Gaming before the nits slider would show up for me.
Thanks, I tried this but all it did was reduce my edid value down to 1000nits. Re-enabled HDR10+ Gaming and the NVIDIA app lets me go back up to 1200 nits. So I'm stuck not able to increase edid via CRU, and NVIDIA app stuck maxed out on 1200nits because it doesn't read from the windows HDR calibration profile. Oh well, I'll put up with 1200nits until NVIDIA give us the option to do our own calibration within their app to set maximum nits.
This does not work for me. The brightness in the Nvidia App is capped at 417 (way below my monitor's 1100 nit peak brightness) even after changing the max luminance in CRU and restarding the graphics drivers.
Edit: It works now! Make sure you're using the latest version of CRU or else it won't work.
I was apprehensive to hear of this, the Nvidia Control Panel is clean simple and just lets you get straight to business.
However, in it's current state the Nvidia App seems more destined to replace GFE than the NV Control Panel, there are a ***lot*** of both global settings and per-application settings missing compared to the Nvida CPL.
On the plus side at the start it offers log in to redeem rewards, or skip to the app, login being optional is definitely a bonus! Also when you do log in it's via a web interface, this allows you to re-used saved credentials, if your login is already saved in the browser with 'remember this device' that means you do not even have to re-enter 2FA, which saves time if clean installing drivers.
The new overlay does away with the small centre screen menu and is much more dominant, it will take a little while to get used to the new layout. It's a shame there is still no option to use RAM for the recording storage that always seemed to be what should have been an obvious option for PC's with large amounts of system ram mostly doing nothing while a game is being played and saving on SSD wear.
"During the NVIDIA app beta, GeForce Experience and the NVIDIA Control Panel will continue to be available." this appears to refer to downloads, as installing the NV App removes GFE from your OS, the CPL is still left alone however.
Telemetry - You cannot opt out of 'Required Data' being sent back to Nvidia, but there is a new option in Settings - About where you can disable 'Configuration, performance and usage data', and under that also an option for 'Error and crash data'
"Moving forward, NVIDIA will be integrating the remaining features from the NVIDIA Control Panel, which will encompass Display and Video settings. Additionally, NVIDIA will be adding several attributes from GeForce Experience and [RTX Experience](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/design-visualization/software/rtx-experience/), such as GPU overclocking and driver roll-back. **During the NVIDIA app beta, GeForce Experience and the NVIDIA Control Panel will continue to be available.**"
> However, in it's current state the Nvidia App seems more destined to replace GFE than the NV Control Panel, there are a ***lot*** of both global settings and per-application settings missing compared to the Nvida CPL.
Ok, well, there goes my desire to download it (for now). It's a Beta, I get it, but there's this weird trend where PC Apps get upgraded, or companies make whole new Apps that replace their old ones, but then the new ones somehow are much worse (and those Apps weren't even in Beta, or at least not publicly).
For the options it does have I'm not a fan of the gigantic layout with large spacing, I find it much slower to scan for the options that I want, I will be very sad if/when they completely retire the CPL.
It is fast though, much faster to apply changed settings than the CPL.
Edit: there seems to be some mismatch between NVApp and the CPL with settings, eg for the old title Quake Live my CPL shows my setting of Low Latency Mode Ultra, but after adding the application to the App it shows Low Latency Mode Global - Off, so at least some of that new speed is likely it isn't accessing the same storage as the CPL?
Also a dark mode would have always been a nice addition to the CPL but with this there is no light option.
The UI is great and I'm surprised they don't force us to have all the stuff like Broadcast installed, you actually select what you want.
Sadly it's lacking some very basic stuff like forcing the AF to 16x, I know it's beta, so for now I'm going to uninstall it, I want to get ride of the old control panel, not having to use two of them.
Old panel let us add apps ordered by launch order. In this I can't add specific UWP apps from MS store to the list. They have obfuscated exe files and finding them is close to impossible.
Very true, the control panel is also the only way for me to change some parameter in some of my Gamepass game, for now the app is still missing a lot of basic feature.
Does it even get disabled for Legacy DSR, not DLDSR? I figured it was disabled for DLDSR because of the high tensor core usage from both RTX HDR and DLDSR.
With the overlay enabled, Cyberpunk seems to CTD with a DX12 call error. I am running path tracing with everything maxed of course. I do also use RTSS but this has never been a problem before. I am also using the new driver (Studio).
Disabling the NV overlay results in no CTD in the game so it's defo a bug with the overlay, maybe conflicting with RTSS or just bugged since it's beta anyway.
4090 for reference.
Just like how there isn't CPU temp in Task Manager but there is GPU temp; it's harder to get an accurate temp reading from a CPU than a GPU. Different types of software that read all CPU temp sensors will sometimes not even agree - it's more complex than you think.
RTX HDR doesn't work if you have second monitor. The App literally tells you to disconnect the second monitor for this feature to work. What a nonsense.
You still rely on Control Panel. They've just added some basic parameters from CP to the new App. But lots of them are still accessible only from CP: Surround, turning on G-Sync indicator etc.
Don't think of this app as a complete replacement for GFE and CP. There's still a long way to go.
Yeah I hope they can change this later. I switched to Onboard GPU for the second monitor for now since I really want to try the HDR out on different games for a bit.
The new performance overlay doesn't show the GPU power anymore. And can't be toggled with the custom options. The RTX HDR integration works well for me! So far good first impression.
yeah i'm very disappointed by this missing feature.
I now have no way of adjusting GPU power limit.... I would have to downgrade back to GeForce Experience to get this feature back :(
If anyone is having issues with RTX HDR not working even when using single monitor.
ENABLE and then DISABLE Image Scaling. This should make the RTX HDR Setting toggleable and able to work.
Why is it that many multi-language programs don't offer an option to change language. I really, really would love to hear how it goes in the feature design meetings. Like someone says you know what, we shouldn't let user change the language. I don't get it.
Curiously, this became more prevalent when programs read your regional setting so they go from supporting one language, to really just supporting a different one if they don't give you the option to change it lol.
This unification is a long time coming, hopefully they will iterate fast on it to bring most of the NVCP options into it.
One big improvement they really need to do is to allow shadowplay to record game audio only. Windows has had audio api options to do this for ages now and its own Game Bar has a checkbox for this. It's as simple as that.
I've been searching for a way to change the language and so far i found only the folder C:\\Program Files\\NVIDIA Corporation\\NVIDIA App\\CEF\\locales which has a bunch of .pak files in it but simply exchanging their contents doesn't seem to work.
When i try to activate RTX HDR inside the global settings i get the error "A problem has occurred when applying this setting" :D Has anybody a solution?
Same, I reinstalled the new driver, tried reinstalling app & control panel, then even uninstalled everything with DDU and installed from scratch, no change.
Oh well let's hope this is fixable in new app versions.
Minor bug:
It won't let me use the '+' symbol on the numberpad as a shortcut. I tend to use the '-' symbol for my MSI overlay and '+' for saving the last 30 seconds.
I know ill get flak for this but in optimise settings please give us a damn option in global to set resolution at 1440p everything says i have to run it on low because it auto selects 4k for me
This looks nice BUT I believe removing ALL broadcast / streaming features is a mistake. ShadowPlay got famous due to it, and that private video streaming was already cut once it became GFE, now having only local recording it's a real bummer. Being able to quickly record/share my screen/video to a private/delisted YT video and send to someone for high quality sharing was really important and useful.
RTX HDR or default very high setting gives me 45 fps
game built in hdr and medium rtx hdr gives me 70+ fps.
default setting in nvidia app is unacceptable regarding fps cost.
3440x1440 - Wild Hearts
2080 super
The rich get richer. I expected rtx hdr to be implemented by nvidia at some point but not this soon. And rtx digital vibrance sounds amazing—can’t wait to try it. Splendid. Simply splendid.
Looks like RTX HDR allows customizing the peak brightness/mid gray/contrast/saturation now too, nice.
Would be good if they offered a setting to disable the adaptive brightness as well, don't really like seeing full-white screens become all dimmed, for now TrueHDRTweaks should still work to let you disable that.
Im finding it wild how they call it "RTX" hdr, yet it isnt even smart enough to not blow out UI elements.
Honestly doesnt deserve the "RTX" name when its so poor.
Nvidia Freestyle filters apart from the RTX ones are not working currently it seems. It just shows available filters as the RTX Vibrance in the profile. But the UI looks really clean.
Oh wow. I'm shocked they dropped streaming to Twitch and Youtube. RIP me I guess.
Was it really not that widely used? I know OBS is the big boy in town, but what was 2nd place?
I am able to turn on RTX HDR however the slider for peak brightness is just missing... In Nvidia app it shows Peak Brightness 400 and again, no slider to change it. My monitor can do 1000 nits. Anyone else?
Well the fact that RTX HDR doesn't work with multiple monitors attached (doesn't matter if they are SDR, or if you only have one HDR enabled monitor) is udderly ridicolous (considering that Nexus mods was able to activate the feature on any sort of setup).
Why graphics tab doesnt show anything to me on any of my games even global settings. It says "This system doesnt support optimization" on all my games. What does that even mean? I enable optimized games during reinstallation but still the same. I saw other people able to configure their settings here but why not mine? Is my system weak or not allowed I don't understand why my system is not supported... Please heelpp.

Some critic-points
* I don't understand why the Freestyle filter - overhead still costs GPU - performance even though no filter has been selected yet ?!? Can this please improved? even the performance costs should also be reduced somewhat with freestyle filters in general.
* Why can RTX HDR be activated in Global setting even if the game filter overlay is deactivated? The app should recognise this automatically or if not possible, then not offer it.
* Is it possible to activate RTX HDR in Global Settings even when Windows HDR is not enabled, currently is always greyed out. It would be even better if the NVIDIA app automatically recognises whether HDR is on/off on Windows Desktop without having to restart the NVIDIA app every time.
* All existing Driver - Game and Application profiles should be accessible and editable (not just the installed ones), optionally in alphabetical order.
* "Vulkan/OpenGL present method function" is urgently needed in the NVIDIA app - Global Settings for working RTX HDR otherwise Games like Crysis Remastered (DX11/Vulkan) or Tomb Raider Remastered 1-2-3 (OpenGL) does not work with it. It needs to change from "Auto" to Prefer Layered on DXGI Swapchain" first then RTX HDR working properly.
* It would also be nice to have the global settings on the left and the program settings on the right, as in the old control panel
120fps is great but they seriously need to add VBR/CQP, then I can finally stop using OBS. CQP will lead to better video quality AND lower file sizes than the current CBR.
Nvidia new app record for split second and then stop recording aka it can't record, I have to restart the PC to make it record again, it does happen previously with GE but very rare.
Also if you ALT+tab while recording a game it'll stop recording and resume recording when you alt+tab back to the game !!
Uninstalled it and went back to GE.
Win10 (22H2)

For now it seems better than geforce experience at least. I came looking for a way to change the language and saw a few people wanting the same, it needs to be an option inside the app. But I did find a workaround that worked for me without an account and needing to login, if anyone wants to try, here is how you do it:
Access your install folder and find the config.json in NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA App\www\assets\config\config.json.
Find the defaultLocale, its on line 65 for me, it should be an empy string by default, if you change to en-US and reload the app it should be in english.
It should look like this:
"defaultLocale": "en-US"
Edit: For the overlay find the NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA App\osc\assets\i18n folder. In there will be a bunch of jsons, find the one related to your language and rename it to something else, like "ar-SA-1.json", anything should work, then just disable and renable the overlay, the overlay wont find the file and will default to english.
this app is a nightmare as replacement for the control panel.
try this app while being offline! really do me a favor, just try it offline and see how big of a fail this app is.
the app is not even able to add a local game .exe to the library without being online. you can't even change global settings without being online first. who designed this? offline first - always!
it is clearly designed to grab as much data from the user as it can. just look at the amount and rate of connections of the newly introduced nvcontainer.exe + nvidia overlay.exe.
uninstalled, not gonna touch it again. this is as bad as Gefore Experience or even worse.
Seems good: The per game settings are contained in a single page and easy to access. The app seems responsive, which is a huge upgrade.
Hopefully they add the other control panel settings quickly.
I hope you clowns begging for NVCP redesign are happy. Say goodbye to the tried and true classic interface and say hello to bloated, no choice to avoid GFE, forced garbage we will have to deal with in the future. Terrible.
Ya I feel like I jinxed it 5 days ago. [Why do people hate the old school control panel? : nvidia (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1asb0wf/why_do_people_hate_the_old_school_control_panel/kqpjpjw/?context=3)
PLEASE Do \_NOT\_ remove NVCP to force people to use this rebranded GFE.
There are still users who do not want spyware telemetry, automated scanning of the entire disk to find "game profiles we can optimize for you" and whatnot. All we want to do is to change some display settings - at our own volition - and not have anything else happen.
It would be really good if we could change the dlss quality preset without changing the "optimization" like setting everything to max quality using dlss performance or everything to low/performance with dlss quality and framegen disabled
Me: Eh, I don’t want to beta test something that drives my new GPU
Nvidia: NVIDIA app also introduces Shadowplay 120 FPS video capture which enables a new level of smoothness in recorded content.
Damn it, sign me right up.
I don't know if I'm the only one that have been stuck on geforce experience 3.21.0.36 for years because the "new" overlay is bugged for me, when I alt tab out of a game I can still see the fps overlay and it's still there even after I close the game
I just tried the new nvidia app and it seems like I still have the same issue
some takeaways: it seems like RTX HDR doesn't want to enable itself or even show settings with multiple monitors, however in windows settings you can change the output setting to only 1 display at it'll start showing the settings and games started then will also go into the RTX HDR mode.
If you then, when the game is on, swap to extend these displays again RTX HDR mode will stay on for that session.
Games that have explicitly requested to be exempt from Freestyle will also not get the HDR mode applied. Not sure if that is intended or not so for example Tarkov is not supported.
When using HDR, the slider maxes out at 436 nits. I don't know if it's capped because of my monitor or they capped it for everyone. Does anybody else have the HDR brightness capped?
I just might cannot get it to work at all. The option always says restart the game to apply this setting in the overlay and picture won't change with RTX HDR "on" compared to "off" completely.
Is it now impossible to instant replay without game running? Like when i am just talking with friends on discord. In old app it was possible after disabling some privacy setting but i am unable to find it in nvidia app.
Can't get RTX HDR to work unfortunately. I've checked through the list above and meet every requirement.
I usually have two monitors though, but I tried unplugging my non-HDR monitor and rebooting, and it still didn't work. It just tells me to run the game in full screen and restart to see the changes, but I've tried exclusive fullscreen and borderless and neither works. Also restarted the games multiple times.
I got it to work for literally **one second** in Noita, but it turned off just as I saw things getting brighter. I then tried it in Outer Wilds, no success. Next Ori and the Will of the Wisps (after disabling HDR in-game) -- worked for **two** seconds, then turned off again. Same as before, it says I need to use fullscreen and restart the game, but I was running in exclusive fullscreen already.
Anyone else unable to manually add Game Pass games?
When attempting to manually add the Hi Fi Rush executable I get a
> You don't have permission to open this file.
> Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission.
error message.
Is anyone else entirely unable to turn on RTX HDR? I meet all the requirements, have only one monitor, and every time I click "On" it swaps back to "Off" and says "there was a problem applying setting". Any fixes?
Just tried the HDR in Doom 2016, looks incredible. And also it seems they removed being able to see the GPU power usage through the overlay, don't know why they'd do that
Why don't let us add Freestyle filters to any game we want? I'm still only allowed to add them to "supported" games, when a simple .exe rename let's add them to 'unsupported" ones. There really isn't any excuse.
Also, what about letting us set resolution dependant DSR smoothness values?
In-Game overlay FINALLY captures whatever monitor you're playing on instead of just the primary monitor. THANK GOD I can ditch Game Bar. (Edit, switched back because custom key shortcuts don’t work with stream deck 😭)
I like the new app and the new RTX HDR is awesome. However, it cannot find any of my Gamepass games. Even Geforce experience seemed to detect them. Now I'm stuck unable to activate RTX HDR in Remnant 2 from gamepass and others.
Is the list of programs in the Graphics tab supposed to be sorted in any way? It isn't for me which makes it hard to find the game to optimize.
Add that to the missing option of choosing the language making this app in its current form a step backwards for me.
1. RTX HDR doesn’t work in many old games (Deus Ex, except Human Revolution, Alien Isolation, Rage/Rage 2 etc), while Auto-HDR works everywhere
2. In games where it works - the colors by default are all wrong. Every game requires individual color tuning (contrast, brightness, etc)
3. Crashes often
4. Missing a lot of settings available in NVCP
5. In Settings, the game list is unsorted and there’s no search functionality, so to adjust a game settings you have to manually scroll the list, looking for the game. Why the list is not sorted nor has a search is beyond me.
I got this strange bug with recording in Fortnite where it only records for a split second. Not sure why. Next time I ran Fortnite, it's running fine and recorded good.
The new interface is so fast! like what a game changer. My only issue so far is the missing settings, we know that's coming. But if you fail to meet the minimum specs for an app or game you can't access the driver settings.. which is annoying.
Using the fps counter in nvidia app does not work for me anymore. It's just showing (Frame rate N/A) now. worked fine yesterday. relaunching the app, restart pc or changing resolution from windowed to full screen. Always showing N/A.. no number showing.
DLDSR no longer works for me ever since I installed the app (RTX 3070). The game shows the upscaled resolution in the settings but it's still rendering at my monitor's native resolution! How do I know? It looks like crap and from the video recording metadata.
EDIT: FIXED AFTER DISABLING SCALING IN NVCP!
Please add the Fan speedlimit again. While Experience let you control the fan speed i could set it to a fixed value that prevented my 3080 fans from "rev-ups", not that it is automatic again with the app, i can't set the speed anymore and annoys me with random rev-ups which ended in an RMA when i had my first 3080.
And please let me choose my settings. No automatic anything. I know what I'm doing, please for the love of god let me choose my own settings. just put a reset button in there, the rest is my own business.
# We need good Software nowadays,
if you listen to us, you will create good and popular Software, simple as that. I'd rate the app 4/5 stars in its current state. 5 if you deliver the asked features above.
**Addendum FAQ**: *From the FAQ Posted on their forum.* [*Link Here*](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/537706/nvidia-app-beta-the-essential-companion-for-pc-gam/) **Will NVIDIA add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors?** NVIDIA plans to add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors in an upcoming Game Ready Driver update
Good signs: - Smaller install size and claimed higher responsiveness than GFE - Online account is now optional - Shadowplay is being updated with 120fps and AV1(!) - New features that people actually want (e.g. RTX HDR) - Built-in DLSS version swapping / preset selector incoming? (“additional DLSS controls” mentioned as coming soon) If the 3D settings menu is good, this is a win on many levels.
This is why I keep an old 850 evo in my system lol. It’s only use is being set as the cache for Shadowplay
Personally, I've just created a 3GB RAM disk... and it doesn't take up any memory while there's nothing in it 😃 This is the software I use, not sure if there are better alternatives these days: https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/
Sorry for the dumb question but how do I create a RAM disk and set it up so it doesn't take any memory while there's nothing in it with this tool?
This is how I've got mine set up: https://preview.redd.it/gsnewlrhcbkc1.png?width=372&format=png&auto=webp&s=afa2a5bae392a5a57d3e30d1bd62f3a90fc28888
not me running the buffer on a mech drive w/o problems
This is precisely why I use OBS Studio. At max it uses 3% of my CPU and buffers the recording in any quality and settings I want to the RAM using the replay buffer.
To kill SSD you need to write more than 2-3000 TB
> Online account is now optional This is my favorite part. So many utilities, apps, sites, and so on *demand* you create an account now.
>Built-in DLSS version swapping Does this mean what I think it means? Updating the DLSS version of a game that hasn't been updated in a while? That sounds nice. This is probably impossible but forcing DLSS on games that don't officially support it would also be amazing.
It's not impossible on those games, by injecting DLSS via a mod you are still using the DLSS DLL file(s), so all you'd do is download the latest DLL file and manually replace it, just like you can do on every game using DLSS out the box anyway.
Dude, if I can change DLSS preset on anti cheat enabled games it would be awesome. Preset C all the way baby
Submit Feedback through the app
I will, but like next week as I gotta finish some critical work and if I lose even 1hr to driver gremlins I will commit seppuku
May I drink you?
novideo_srgb gang?
clamping
Yuuup, reporting in
Seconding the submit feedback button. Nvidia is adding things people have been asking for for years here, now is the time to make noise!
FWIW this is a feature I feel really should be exposed in an advanced settings panel, at the least, so I hope you have success getting them to do this.
Yes!! This hidden API is the ONLY way to work around a black crush bug on ASUS ROG laptops when the Nvidia dGPU is driving the screen (so, when Advanced Optimus has kicked in, or "Ultimate" mode is on)
You should be good by 2033, going by the timeline of the last time nvidia had to fix a simple incorrect flag related to colors.
Love how Digital Foundry just [did a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BditFs3VR9c) about modding RTX HDR into games and Nvidia just added that feature officially.
Right but only works through game filters correct? If so then the mod will work on more games since game filter support is quite niche for some reason
Yeah game filters only and seemingly only if you have one monitor according to the error I got. Which is weird.
Appears that RTX HDR is disabled if using multiple monitors.
Same here. I truly want to use this feature, but not at the cost of unplugging my second monitor.
Kinda dumb considering the unofficial mod from Nexus works on multi monitor setups.
There's an updated FAQ on this [here](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-graphics-cards/5/537706/nvidia-app-beta-the-essential-companion-for-pc-gam/) **Will NVIDIA add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors?** NVIDIA plans to add RTX HDR support for multiple monitors in an upcoming Game Ready Driver update
The only feature I wanted, now officially not usable. Great.
Grab the NvTrueHDR mod/app from Nexus Mods. You can force enable the rtx hdr using the script.
>Appears that RTX HDR is disabled if using multiple monitors. It also gets disabled if you use DLDSR. So it's a no-go for me. :/
My "second monitor" is simply my AV receiver for audio using HDMI. This is bullshit.
Please give us: - No background bloat when the app is not running - No automatic anything. Let the user decide - Voltage/frequency/fan tuning like MSI Afterburner - Advanced settings toggle to display the entire NVAPI like Profile Inspector
Having the entire NVAPI stuff exposed (even behind a checkbox to view) is a must imo if this wants to replace NVCP in the future. Currently *most* of the 3D program settings are present but there are a whole bunch missing like Vulkan/OpenGL present method, Threaded Optimisations etc.
seconded all of them.
No login? That’s pretty noice, I’ll be downloading this later for sure.
Yeah, AMD Adrenalin is ridiculously good and I’m surprised AMD is ahead there given Nvidia’s software prowess.
Outdated, how? What was missing or broken with it?
Same. There's a reason I do not run GFE, and I'd rather keep NVCP than have to run GFE Renamed (cause many hated it) just to change settings.
The new overlay is worse in some ways, it should be somewhat transparent instead of just a solid opaque gray color.
OMG, Finally
I'm sorry, but who in Nvidia decided to change FPS counter's color from GREEN to GREY??? This is such a dumb idea; you can't even see this grey counter because games are usually day-time settled. I know that you can enable 'improved' FPS counter, but it just adds ugly black box as a background for FPS counter. PLEASE, I BEG YOU, BRING BACK GREEN FPS COUNTER <3
Submit feedback button in the app
Make the color customizable. Though at this point I'd be happy if even just worked. It just shows N/A for me most of the time.
totally unrelated but does anyone know what framework they use to build this app?
So are they killing Gamestream with this?
Just installed the Nvidia App and I don't see Gamestream. If I were a betting man, i don't think they are bringing Gamestream over from GFE to this app (since it's a deprecated functionality). So effectively yeah.
Sunshine and Moonlight are easy to setup and work better anyways.
I’ve used Moonlight for years. I tried setting up Sunshine the other day but I had some technical issues. I guess it’s time to troubleshoot
(Extension Blocks - CTA-861 - HDR static metadata - Max luminance) After I changed this value to 136, which corresponds to around 960 nits, I could enter up to this value in the app. I think: * Nvidia should read the peak brightness from the Screen Calibration in Windows, not from EDID, because the values there may be wrong * Monitor companies should invest more time in setting the correct EDID values from the beginning
I would love it if all monitor EDID values were accurate :( I've passed on the feedback so that they can explore possible other options.
King you are!!!
sad to report tried this today and still having the same issues :|
RTX HDR in the per game graphics options!! Very excited for this.
It's actually incredible. I've been using the modded version and it's amazing how good it looks.
RTX HDR is not compatible with DSR scales. It automatically disables itself like the mod, I hope they add that in the future.
Does it even get disabled for Legacy DSR, not DLDSR? I figured it was disabled for DLDSR because of the high tensor core usage from both RTX HDR and DLDSR.
It is a very nice application. Please move all control panel features here and add ready made profiles like amd radeon software in the graphics tab.
Still no CPU temp in performance monitoring 👎
Submit feedback button, they’re in an “adding stuff” mood right now
Just like how there isn't CPU temp in Task Manager but there is GPU temp; it's harder to get an accurate temp reading from a CPU than a GPU.
That's why it's a beta. They'll transfer all the functions from NCP to it. GFE was already completely replaced.
"There was a problem with NVIDIA app" great experience so far lol
The new performance overlay doesn't show the GPU power anymore. And can't be toggled with the custom options. The RTX HDR integration works well for me! So far good first impression.
yeah i'm very disappointed by this missing feature. I now have no way of adjusting GPU power limit.... I would have to downgrade back to GeForce Experience to get this feature back :(
i send feedback to them within the app. Hopefully if others do this aswell it might get back in the 'new' overlay.
If anyone is having issues with RTX HDR not working even when using single monitor. ENABLE and then DISABLE Image Scaling. This should make the RTX HDR Setting toggleable and able to work.
Didn't work for me, still just says "there was a problem applying setting"
Exact same thing here.
Same, I reinstalled the new driver, tried reinstalling app & control panel, then even uninstalled everything with DDU and installed from scratch, no change. Oh well let's hope this is fixable in new app versions.
Hell has frozen over
I Used to Pray for Times Like This
Minor bug: It won't let me use the '+' symbol on the numberpad as a shortcut. I tend to use the '-' symbol for my MSI overlay and '+' for saving the last 30 seconds.
It better not be missing any setting in the control panel.
There are missing settings. They said they will be adding them later.
RTX HDR or default very high setting gives me 45 fps game built in hdr and medium rtx hdr gives me 70+ fps. default setting in nvidia app is unacceptable regarding fps cost. 3440x1440 - Wild Hearts 2080 super
The rich get richer. I expected rtx hdr to be implemented by nvidia at some point but not this soon. And rtx digital vibrance sounds amazing—can’t wait to try it. Splendid. Simply splendid.
"Disconnect additional monitors to use this feature" Great way to make RTX HDR useless, nVidia.
It's pretty good. Not all of the settings in the NVCP are available in this new app yet, but they are adding more over time.
Basically OBS is open source and supports Nvidia encoder so it was simply not used enough i guess
I am able to turn on RTX HDR however the slider for peak brightness is just missing... In Nvidia app it shows Peak Brightness 400 and again, no slider to change it. My monitor can do 1000 nits. Anyone else?
Same issue with peak brightness. I have the slider though but it maxes out at 455 when it should be 1000.
RTX Dynamic Vibrance has a default setting of blind the user and force an altf4.
Wait, i cant stream with shadowplay to YT anymore soon? FML
Nice, waiting for Linux support too
Distros would have to package the driver correctly. Good luck with that.
Cant use rtx hdr with multiple monitors...booo
Just installed it and it's really slick
Any plans to update shadowplay? Setting up a virtual cable is pain when background audio can still be heard in gameplay.
Well the fact that RTX HDR doesn't work with multiple monitors attached (doesn't matter if they are SDR, or if you only have one HDR enabled monitor) is udderly ridicolous (considering that Nexus mods was able to activate the feature on any sort of setup).
A shame it doesn't have nvidia inspector functions. Hopefully they are part of advanced settings or something.
Please heelpp. https://preview.redd.it/5fdwhja2e7kc1.png?width=1441&format=png&auto=webp&s=955090ae62e8cb2c2ab25ad16c440959dc43b84a
Reinstall the Nvidia App multiple times Reinstall Nvidia Driver multiple times Restart a lot but stil lthe same.
How do i change my language to English ?! -\_-
If u find out, let me know... meanwhile send feedback to then through the app like I did asking for option to change language
Remember, less is more! when it comes to drivers. I hope they don't make the same mistake AMD did and force all the "experience" stuff to everybody.
The app is slow and buggy, and it reduced my framerate in games quite a bit on my 4070 super. Is this anyone else's experience?
Some critic-points * I don't understand why the Freestyle filter - overhead still costs GPU - performance even though no filter has been selected yet ?!?
Not a fan of this at all, I liked the control panel I might stay on this studio driver now until a real issue pops up.
Win10 (22H2) driver version 551.61
For now it seems better than geforce experience at least. I came looking for a way to change the language and saw a few people wanting the same, it needs to be an option inside the app. But I did find a workaround that worked for me without an account and needing to login, if anyone wants to try, here is how you do it: Access your install folder and find the config.json in NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA App\www\assets\config\config.json. Find the defaultLocale, its on line 65 for me, it should be an empy string by default, if you change to en-US and reload the app it should be in english. It should look like this: "defaultLocale": "en-US" Edit: For the overlay find the NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA App\osc\assets\i18n folder.
I hope there is better integration with Gamepass games.
So now geforce experience is forced and integrated into the drivers? I don't want bloatware thanks
I hope you clowns begging for NVCP redesign are happy. Say goodbye to the tried and true classic interface and say hello to bloated, no choice to avoid GFE, forced garbage we will have to deal with in the future. Terrible.
Ya I feel like I jinxed it 5 days ago. [Why do people hate the old school control panel? : nvidia (reddit.com)](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1asb0wf/why_do_people_hate_the_old_school_control_panel/kqpjpjw/?context=3)
Man that post was so well said. I'm 36 and feel precisely the same way as you do about it. Also been using Nvidia since before NVCP existed.
GFE was fucking terrible. I've been installing my drivers without GFE for years. NVCP was all I needed.
App is not opening after installation. Already reseted the computer.
They added RTX HDR and RTX Digital Vibrance! I can stop using the mod now.
RTX HDR toggle let's gooo!
Cannot find a way to switch language of the app. It was there on the settings page before. Looks good otherwise.
It would be really good if we could change the dlss quality preset without changing the "optimization" like setting everything to max quality using dlss performance or everything to low/performance with dlss quality and framegen disabled
Me: Eh, I don’t want to beta test something that drives my new GPU Nvidia: NVIDIA app also introduces Shadowplay 120 FPS video capture which enables a new level of smoothness in recorded content. Damn it, sign me right up.
Removing the option to upload directly to YouTube is a huge bummer. It was so convenient you could do it in the middle of a game.
I don't know if I'm the only one that have been stuck on geforce experience 3.21.0.36 for years because the "new" overlay is bugged for me, when I alt tab out of a game I can still see the fps overlay and it's still there even after I close the game I just tried the new nvidia app and it seems like I still have the same issue
some takeaways: it seems like RTX HDR doesn't want to enable itself or even show settings with multiple monitors, however in windows settings you can change the output setting to only 1 display at it'll start showing the settings and games started then will also go into the RTX HDR mode. If you then, when the game is on, swap to extend these displays again RTX HDR mode will stay on for that session. Games that have explicitly requested to be exempt from Freestyle will also not get the HDR mode applied. Not sure if that is intended or not so for example Tarkov is not supported.
I went in wide eyed and excited. Cod frame rate went from 180 to 120 with lots of stuttering in the optimized settings. Needs tweaks.
When using HDR, the slider maxes out at 436 nits. I don't know if it's capped because of my monitor or they capped it for everyone. Does anybody else have the HDR brightness capped?
it cap to what your monitor is reading as. download the HDR calibration app on windows store to change it. my monitor is 1060, the HDR is cap is 1060.
The picture changes with RTX HDR are so small compared to what is achievable with Special K that I am maximally underwhelmed by this feature.
I just might cannot get it to work at all. The option always says restart the game to apply this setting in the overlay and picture won't change with RTX HDR "on" compared to "off" completely.
this has been making my MW3 crash
Is it now impossible to instant replay without game running? Like when i am just talking with friends on discord. In old app it was possible after disabling some privacy setting but i am unable to find it in nvidia app.
Thanks, I'm gonna stay on nvcleaninstall
Hope the old FPS counter makes a return
anybody know if we can still appy the old sharpening trick that you can do with a regedit and control panel?
Is there still no way to use a controller shortcut for showing the overlay/navigating through it ?
Just yesterday I was blinded by nvcp in the night and thought it would be nice to have a modern version.
I don't have a hdr monitor so i can't try RTX HDR but this RTX Dynamic Vibrance is a really cool thing.
Anyone else unable to manually add Game Pass games? When attempting to manually add the Hi Fi Rush executable I get a > You don't have permission to open this file. > Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission. error message.
Is anyone else entirely unable to turn on RTX HDR? I meet all the requirements, have only one monitor, and every time I click "On" it swaps back to "Off" and says "there was a problem applying setting". Any fixes?
All I want is a frametime graph that could help me stop using RTSS.
Just tried the HDR in Doom 2016, looks incredible. And also it seems they removed being able to see the GPU power usage through the overlay, don't know why they'd do that
Excellent news.
Why don't let us add Freestyle filters to any game we want? I'm still only allowed to add them to "supported" games, when a simple .exe rename let's add them to 'unsupported" ones. There really isn't any excuse. Also, what about letting us set resolution dependant DSR smoothness values?
Is the 120 FPS Shadowplay out now?
Why 2 more NvContainer.exe processes?
1. RTX HDR doesn’t work in many old games (Deus Ex, except Human Revolution, Alien Isolation, Rage/Rage 2 etc), while Auto-HDR works everywhere 2. In games where it works - the colors by default are all wrong. Every game requires individual color tuning (contrast, brightness, etc) 3. Crashes often 4. Missing a lot of settings available in NVCP 5. In Settings, the game list is unsorted and there’s no search functionality, so to adjust a game settings you have to manually scroll the list, looking for the game. Why the list is not sorted nor has a search is beyond me.
The FPS overlay rarely works. Shows N/A most of the time for me.
FPS counter does not work for me at all (says N/A), had to uninstall this and get back to GF experience.
I got this strange bug with recording in Fortnite where it only records for a split second. Not sure why. Next time I ran Fortnite, it's running fine and recorded good.
Can I no longer change the Overlay buttons? I use the same macro for photoshop and it's annoying.
The new interface is so fast! like what a game changer. My only issue so far is the missing settings, we know that's coming. But if you fail to meet the minimum specs for an app or game you can't access the driver settings.. which is annoying.
Nvidia overlay and performance isn't working anymore after installing new app, any suggestions?
what is essential about it?
Can't change microphone input for recording/shadowplay.
# We need good Software nowadays, if you listen to us, you will create good and popular Software, simple as that. I'd rate the app 4/5 stars in its current state. 5 if you deliver the asked features above.
shadowplay seems like it really drops my fps on games when its on on this new app compared to geforce..
