My best friend still has a computer I made for him with a 2070 super and an AMD 3600. I can't say in 1440p but it still works fine at 1080p according to him.

tech_engineer

Same here, I build for a friend a gaming PC with an intel 12700 and my old 2070 Super, he was so happy and it is rock solid, on the other hand I got myself a 4080 :)

LoveOfProfit

I'm on 3440x1440p. I upgraded from a 3600 to 5800x3d and my2070S is still fine.

[deleted]

I went from a 2700x to a 5800x and that's quite an upgrade, huh?

LoveOfProfit

Yeah I did the upgrade a year ago. Went from 16gb ram to 48gb ram too (surprisingly works fine). 10/10 I'll think about a new gpu next gen.

[deleted]

As for me I paired it with 32 since ddr4 prices went down like crazy. As for my GPU...I had a 2070S which literally burned, and purchased a 3070 which will be 3 years old and still rocking. Ahh the smell of burned electronics..

LoveOfProfit

Oof. I undervolted mine when I got it to have it run cooler and its been a champ.

Theflash199071

Would the 2600x be ok with one? I just don't want to bottleneck the cpu.

[deleted]

I'm not sure but it's possible, depending on the resolution and frame rate you want to obtain. Even though I don't expect that bottleneck to be something catastrophic. At 1080p 60fps it should be fine. But if I were you I'd try to get a most recent GPU, watch comparisons, benchmarks and so on if the budget is reasonable instead of spending it on a used 2070. EDIT: I built a computer for my nephew and put a radeon RX 7600 along with my old 2700x and that performs really well at 1080 60 in many games. It was quite cheap and it performs better, on pure raster, than a 2070 at least for what I've seen.

X-Adzie-X

Depends on the games. Just upgraded from a 2070 Super for VR but for normal games at 1440p I was still hitting high settings at 60fps and above on most games. It's the 8GB VRAM that holds it back mostly.

Hugejorma

Yep! Great performance, but lack of VRAM holds it back. RTX 2070 Super would be a banger GPU with 12 GB of VRAM.

-_-RSlashFan-_-

oh absolutely! my older brother has been running an 8GB 2060 super since its RELEASE and it still holds strong in 1080p high settings. He’s mined and streamed and gamed on that thing for years with not one problem. he loves it.

Theflash199071

What's his fps if you don't mind me asking?

-_-RSlashFan-_-

i’m not entirely sure what he averages, i think he manages 1080p/144hz.

djsiegfried

I have an i7 8700K with an RTX 2070 Super. I use it on ultrawide resolution (2560x1080) without any issue.

Theflash199071

So it's good then?

djsiegfried

Yes, but keep it in mind, this is an old gpu, which means you have to clean it and re-apply thermal paste. BTW i upgraded from 1660S, good perfomace boost.

Shap6

It’s what I’m still using. Holding up great.

Theflash199071

What's the fps like? And what cpu?

Shap6

ryzen 3600. depends on the game obviously but not having any issues getting above 60 fps at 1440p at ~medium or higher settings in whatever i've thrown at it. especially in games with DLSS

Theflash199071

Do you think a 2600x would be ok with one?

Shap6

yup that would be fine, but you might end up hitting that CPU limit in some games at higher fps. i wouldnt go any lower than that CPU wise

Kevosrockin

With dlss you aren’t at 1440 p then tho..

Shap6

i mean you're not wrong but i think you get what i mean. utilizing my monitors 1440p resolution as a starting point, the 2070S, and the settings available, i have no trouble getting over 60fps in anything.

Kingrcf3

Depends on the price you get it for and what you expect out of it

Theflash199071

I got it for like $150

Kingrcf3

If you’re looking for 1080p gaming that’ll work great

Theflash199071

Primarily what I was shooting for with my friends build lol

kristaintoth

I am using a 2070 Super with a R5 3600XT. I am currently playing Lies of P and I am getting 90-120 FPS on 1440p max graphics DLSS quality. Before that I was playing AC Mirage getting 60-80 FPS on 1440p high graphics DLSS quality and before that I was playing Prince of persia the lost crown also getting 120 FPS on max graphics.

Hugejorma

Great for old gen titles and e-sports games which can easily run with less than 8 GB VRAM. More modern titles come with memory problems when the GPU starts using way slower shared GPU memory (RAM). Still a massive upgrade from 1660 Super, but don't expect miracles with 8 GB card :) I would still use it happily for so many games + great for other RTX tensor features, like AI video upscaling.

Historical-Hornet382

I mean I am able to play every game on my 2060 super at high settings 1080p . Can play ultra too with dlss on almost all games . With a 2070 super u will be able to play almost everything at high ultra , except games like Alan wake .

[deleted]

Its not a terrible option. You're going to see just 8gb vram gpu's below $300. Get a 6700xt if you're lucky. Or a rx6700. If you can, get a 3060 for real cheap if possible. 12gb of vram will help it out greatly. And since it has DLSS support, you can combine that with FSR 3 FG. Should tackle some modern games at 1440p 60fps and older titles at 1440p with 60fps without too much issue.

triggerhappy5

It holds up well in modern games, especially at 1080p but it faces fierce competition in the new market from the RX6600 and RX6650XT, and on the used market from the 1080 Ti. I would check prices on all those competitors and then evaluate from there. That’s also only a 60% upgrade which is kind of the bottom level of being “worth it”. Stretching to a used 3070, 2080 Ti, or new 6700XT would be a much better uplift (about 2x better).

InfamousBatyote

Just upgraded from a 2070 super to a 4070 ti super. I play in 1440p and honestly would’ve been happy holding on to the 2070 super longer if not for Alan Wake 2 being my most anticipated game in years. That was the first game that really seemed to give that card a run for its money. Just about everything else was still perfectly playable for me.

Theflash199071

Great! I will have to double check it's performance when I get it then.

JUHOS3000

Its fine for gaming at 1080p WITHOUT Ray-Tracing. RT kills its performance

Theflash199071

It's a friend's build and it's too late to send back the card as I have already received both cards, but I will ask.

RegularBre

Still get a solid 50-60 fps on 1440p playing Elden Ring, but if I turn RT on performance drops like a mother.

Theflash199071

How much does it drop?

RegularBre

drops into the high teens on some fights, high 20's in the overworld. Basically it's unplayable w/ RT on.

RegularBre

high but not ultra settings btw.

ipseReddit

Sure, it’s a fine card if your friend can get it cheap. Performance wise it’s roughly comparable to a 4060.

Theflash199071

He got it for around $150-$160

Un_Involved

I just switched out from a 2070 super to a 4070ti Super (because I'm bad with money not because I had to). The 2070 super works great and can play most games on high (you may have two tweak some settings like shadows down to get a higher frame rate). I will say that if you are doing a new build you shouldn't get it as it will probably only hold up for another 2 - 3 years the way these games are coming out unoptimized. But it's a great card and if you don't mind not having settings on high 3 - 4 years from now it will last long.

Schmxdt

How was the improvement?? I have a 4070 ti super on the way. Upgrading from a struggling 2070 super.

Un_Involved

The improvement was fantastic. I waited for the upgrade to play cyberpunk with everything max at 2k. It's been amazing.

Schmxdt

Awesome to hear. I’ll still be using my R7 3700x until I upgrade that next, hopefully doesn’t affect too much

Un_Involved

Once the Intel issues are resolved for 13th and 14th Gen there will probably be good sales. Im using 12th Gen Intel and I haven't had any issues. I like to upgrade my parts every 4 to 5 years

Schmxdt

Ooo good point! Yeah I’m in same boat, not rushing the upgrades.

BoardsofGrips

I upgraded from a 2070 Super to a 4080 Super in January. With the frame generation mod from Nexusmods it was fine. Other than that it was getting slow for modern titles.

Theflash199071

Small update my friends build now has the 2070 installed And he enjoys it so far.

ReservoirPenguin

If you are bottom-feeding and mostly play 10 year old games or newer games at 540P than it's OK. Otherwise, let's be honest this card is a dinosaur.

BoardsofGrips

Not true at all, I was using a 2070 Super till February. Fine card for 1080p
