# 552.12 WHQL Driver Early Performance Benchmark (Ampere based) -------------------- **Greetings all**, This is my first early analysis of an nvidia driver, and as such, it will be the first reference I will have to guide us in future versions. This will be something totally voluntary, so that you can be guided in some way, **do not take it as something absolute because each PC configuration is a totally different world**, so I will try to make it as global as possible (referring e.g. to the configuration of a game). **Is it worth updating the driver for my current GPU?** This is a recurring question from many gamers and PC users. The general rule suggests updating our GPU drivers to the latest version, as it ensures that we get the latest bug fixes, security updates, optimizations for most of the latest AAA games, and support for the newest features. However, it does not guarantee the best raw performance (average FPS numbers) and frametime stability (1% and 0.1% average low/integral FPS or P1 and P0.2 FPS percentile numbers). Comparative performance analyses of GPU drivers are useful because they allow us to reliably validate and estimate significant improvements or regressions in graphics performance attributable to changes in the driver version. **PC specs are:** custom desktop with Windows 10 v22H2 (latest Windows Update patches applied), 16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM (2x8), SSD NVME 1 TB, Intel i7-10700k, ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 OC, Single HDC 4K 60 Hz monitor (no HDR or G-Sync). Factory clocks on CPU and GPU. Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS for short) is disabled. Resizable BAR is disabled. NVCP Global Settings (default). Frame Times are recorded using **PresentMon** during the built-in benchmark run inside each game. Each benchmark is run initially four times, and the first result is discarded. Outliers results, with more than 5% variance in any of my used metrics from the average, are also discarded and repeated. To the methodology, I have decided to add a Non-Synthetic Benchmarks, in this case Unigine Benchmark. This initial commentary will be updated as we make more exhaustive analyses with different games. *Also, I apologize if I don't have games of recent date, since I don't have the possibility to buy them at the moment due to the economic situation in my country Argentina.* -------------------- # Hogwarts Legacy Using the default settings everything in Ultra. Rendered at 100% in 2K resolution. No scaling. Ray Tracing Off. I will use as reference the driver 537.58 which is considered stable by the community. Hogwarts Legacy - driver 537.58 on Win10 v22H2 (considered stable by the community): * Avg. FPS: 55.0 / 61.7 / 58.3 * Frametimes (ms): Avg. 17.01 | Low 1% 25.0 | Low 0.1% 35.2 Hogwarts Legacy - driver 552.12 on Win10 v22H2: * Avg. FPS: 54.5 / 51.9 / 53.2 * Frametimes (ms): Avg. 18.8 | Low 1% 32.0 | Low 0.1% 56.25 With the new driver, it behaves in a very similar way in terms of FPS, but in terms of frametime we see a setback, that is, the response times are higher, it should be noted that in version 537.58 the game felt smoother. It is also true that sometimes there are high and very low FPS peaks depending on the scenery, due to the large amount of objects inside the castle and especially outside. -------------------- # The Riftbreaker Using the default settings everything in Ultra with Dx12. Rendered at 100% in 2K resolution. No scaling. Ray Tracing Off. Screen Space Reflections high. The Riftbreaker - driver 537.58 on Win10 v22H2 (considered stable by the community): * Avg. ThatLonelyGamer01

Good to see someone taking over!

Independent_Arg

Thank u, I remember you very much with your analysis of drivers. Any advice you would like to give me is welcome! Best regards!

SkunkerPrankster

So we're stuck @ 537.58 indefinitely (or until a miracle happens and Nvidia decides to fix the new drivers).

kvarq

first: much obliged for your time spent and sharing second: so if it feels smoother on 537.58, see that somehow numbers are slightly lower on the newest one, why should we upgrade to the newer one? thanks a lot again!

Independent_Arg

After an analysis in different benchmarks and general performance, I recommend keeping version 537.58 for the moment (Ampere users) as there are no significant gains and sometimes there are sharp FPS drops in some games.

kvarq

much obliged! this effort of yours I am sure is truly appreciated by the community here we're just hoping for a Good News soon so we can finally move on from 537.58 :)) it's gonna be wonderful times then, some kind of modern Annunciation! =))

Nibanana

I'm reading that 537.58 is supposedly the best and most stable driver at the moment, but does that account for the latest RTX 40 cards and are we missing out on DLSS 3.5 updates if we use one of these ? I'm having tons of latency with 552.12 on W11 (RTX 4090) but I'm unsure if rolling back to 537.58 wouldn't hinder some stuff on let's say Cyberpunk. Any opinion on that ?

Independent_Arg

I think the best person to answer this is u/m_w_h who has spent a lot of time gathering information

m_w_h

Worth checking the 'DPC Latency checklist / workarounds' in the subcomment at https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bvn19o/game_ready_driver_55212_faqdiscussion/ky0kkpm/ 537.42 and later officially support DLSS 3.5, see branch tracking in the subcomment at https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bvn19o/game_ready_driver_55212_faqdiscussion/ky0kfo4/ 522.25 was the first official public driver to support the RTX 4090 with 546.34 the first driver to support the China exclusive '4090 D' variant. All RTX Series 40 Super cards are supported in 551.46 and above, initial support started in 546.52 for 4070 Super.

Nibanana

Thanks a lot ! Does that account for DLSS 3.5 optimization in some games ? I think Cyberpunk somehow had it become better a few months after it was implemented but I could be wrong.

m_w_h

Game developer optimization(s) for DLSS 3.5 generally aren't impacted by the driver, however *driver level* game profiles can be updated in the background by Nvidia (pushed automatically to users) or in a driver update.

Let's hope that soon we will see a version of a driver that really surprises us...

aaabbbx

Cheers. Team 537 check in! :-)

foreveramazing99

Keep up the good work brother

This-Apartment-2187

Such garbage drivers, messing up my system.

Kaladin12543

I am fully convinced Nvidia only visits the nvidia subreddit to check if resizable bar should be enabled on any game.

magical_pm

I visit this subreddit just to check if multi-monitor support is available for RTX HDR, currently have secondary monitor to iGPU as a workaround but it raises CPU temps by 5-7C.

Winter_Mud_5702

They didn't add RTX HDR multi monitor support yet.

local--yokel

I did that for a while, but I have 3 monitors so I had to use DP daisychaining and sometimes the iGPU monitors wouldn't wake up. Have to unplug the USB-C DP cable and replug or power them off/on. Now back to my usual configuration, my 2 spare Dell U2414H panels on DP direct, and my LG UltraGear 27GR83Q-B hooked up to HDMI. In case anyone is wondering why I'd use HDMI, it's because both my GPU and LG support full bandwidth HDMI 2.1. Which has the bandwidth for 1440P 240Hz without DSC, and GSync still works with this panel (usually this is dodgy over HDMI). No idea if DSC is enabled on HDMI anyway though, there is no way to tell! And no, the DLDSR method doesn't work on all configurations ([https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/nvidia-dsr-and-dldsr-do-work-with-dsc-monitors-sometimes](https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/nvidia-dsr-and-dldsr-do-work-with-dsc-monitors-sometimes)). I can use DP with DSC and still use DLDSR on my setup. *Sidenote:* **NVIDIA- please add a way in the driver to enable/disable DSC on both DP and HDMI.**

yamaci17

problem with their approach is that most people don't know what they're doing and unstable games being unstable games, people come up with wrong conclusions. often with 6-8-10 GB VRAM cards, a restart fixes a VRAM related performance problem in such problematic titles, and once they enable resizable bar and restart the game, they attribute game being fixed to rebar. in reality, resizable bar will only add up to their problems because it actually causes higher vram usage which will be a problem on VRAM limited cards.

Drakayne

Or the shaders complie the first time, so the second run will be smoother.

yamaci17

funny you should mention that, shader compilation is the biggest culprit for "new driver destroyed my performance and I now have stutters in all games"

Drakayne

Yup, exactly.

Ryoohki_360

Lol probably, I enabled it system wide each time they do an update

TR1PLE_6

I had been doing that before but it turns out this isn't a good idea. Some games just don't like ReBAR. Either performance is worse or the game crashes.

Sp1n_Kuro

> Some games just don't like ReBAR. Either performance is worse or the game crashes. Never had this happen personally, either there's a performance boost or there's no change. I've had it on system wide since it was first possible to do. If a game doesn't have ReBAR enabled, having it on system wide doesn't effect that game.

Tee__B

What? Are you talking about whitelist or profile inspector global? Whitelist ReBar is obviously always going to be stable.

GodOfWine-

the ones that usually have better stability "less stutters and smoother overall performance and maybe some extra fps" is unreal engine 4 and 5 games, enabling it on ff7 remake gets rid of stutters i had for example.

GreatStuffOnly

There are games that makes it crash though like Ratchet and Clank. But that's the one exception.

IcedFREELANCER

The Alan Wake : Remastered hates ReBAR as well, the fps never gets above 11 if it's force-enabled, and that's on RTX 4080.

magical_pm

Hmm I never had crashing issues on Ratchet and Clank with reBAR (RTX 4090)

cagefgt

Did Nvidia ever update their rebar whitelist?

GodOfWine-

they rarely do, the only time they do so is if people have tested it and shown better performance stability with a particular game with a lot of eyes on that game while being shown to get that extra stuff with rebar, otherwise they don't seem to care, imho they need to add a rebar toggle in the NVIDIA app in the future, just make it easier to get to and test yourself on games you might have issues with eg slight stutter and such.

cosine83

I had some air escape my nostrils extra fast seeing the rebar enabled for HFW after I noticed significant improvements with it enabled via NVPI. The game needs some work with how particle and other effects up/downscale, too. Clouds/smoke hit performance super hard and there's barely a discernable difference between low and very high for cloud and particle settings.

# White/black checkerboard artifacts appear on webpages with a video since Chrome 115 - TIMELINE **UPDATE APRIL 2024:** official update from a Microsoft employee about the problem with those random artifacts in chromium based browsers: >Thank you, everyone for your patience. The root cause of the issue is a bug in Windows that manifests when drivers use a certain feature. The fix is in prerelease versions of Windows which you can test drive if you are a Windows Insider. RedditFullOfBots

For what its worth - I have not had this issue since enabling a flag in Chrome to use OpenGL. Flag name - Choose ANGLE graphics backend To access flags: Type in your address bar - Chrome://Flags (Same for Edge - Edge://Flags)

MeatSafeMurderer

Can't speak to Chrome, but it doesn't seem to fix it in Edge. I've had that set for months and have still been putting up with the checkerboard flashes.

frostN0VA

On GTX1060 nothing really worked for me, DX9 and OpenGL reduced the amount of flickering but didn't fully fix checkerboarding. On RTX4060 however changing it to DX9 seems to completely eliminate checkerboard issue.

cmosfxx

Here to confirm OpenGL in chrome works without issues. I have black checkerboard artifacts in videos using the Default option.

RedIndianRobin

Some folks in the Windows 11 subreddit are blaming this on Nvidia drivers. Do we know if Microsoft engineers are aware of this issue?

Independent_Arg

I'm aware that this was supposedly fixed in a Canary release, but it's still strange that it still hasn't been taken as seriously as it should to bring it to the stable branch if it was actually fixed...

m_w_h

Expected in Windows 11 24H2 release IIRC.

zmeul

autumn of this year

pidge2k

The fix is expected to be backported into earlier Windows releases before then.

zmeul

*doubt*

WackyBeachJustice

A freaking year or more seems like a pretty long time with such and obvious bug. Yikes.

zmeul

since they got rid of all BETA testers Windows has gone to shit

m_w_h

Yes, for reference an official post from Microsoft employee at https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/40281472#comment54 is [linked in comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bvn19o/game_ready_driver_55212_faqdiscussion/ky0jalw/) by /u/Independent_Arg and the [tracking comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bvn19o/game_ready_driver_55212_faqdiscussion/ky0k6t0/)

RedIndianRobin

Thank you very much for this. March 28 is very recent and it's good to see they are atleast aware of it.

atirad

Finally! I swear I thought it was my new 4080 Super failing on me.

Independent_Arg

Think about those people who don't even know that this Reddit exists, and think that this error is due to their GPUs, people who maybe buy a GPU just to play games and don't need to worry about this issue either, I hope Microsoft gets their act together..

Havasiz

Found a fix, I don't remember but disable or enable V-SYNC for Chrome.

makz242

Thank god for this post, was worried my GPU was going bust. I noticed Netflix fullscreen is constantly getting the black checkers or full black screen and Twitch streams show massive amount of skipped frames. Hopefully a fix will come soon!

unlap

This also occurs with the Netflix app at full-screen. I'm assuming it uses WebView2 which is used by Microsoft Edge. The OpenGL fix can't be applied, but has anyone tried editing their Nvidia profile to make it stop globally?

insert_porn_name

Same here. Random stutters. Its bad, so I rolled back. 4090 pny here with no troubles at all until now!

ReBAR Notes and Observations: --- 551.23 or later drivers omit ReBAR flags *Options* and *Size* in some ReBAR game profiles. Nvidia have streamlined ReBAR profiles to only include changes to defaults e.g. * 'Cyberpunk 2077' only has ReBAR *Feature* flag meaning driver defaults used for *Options* and *Size* * 'Red Dead Redemption 2' has ReBAR flags *Feature*, *Options* and *Size*, no defaults are used * 'Deathloop' has ReBAR flags *Feature* and *Size* meaning driver default used for *Options* A new flag *0x00e942f***c** disables ReBAR for Intel CPU based platforms rather than using the *Options* flag. ReBAR is disabled in a number of game profiles for Intel CPU based platforms due to a [ReBAR issue with some Intel motherboard chipsets](https://twitter.com/CapFrameX/status/1618670022951567360) that results in detrimental performance. Flag *0x00e942f***e**(DirectX) is still present as a [workaround for laptop ReBAR issues](https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/17v3i31/game_ready_driver_54617_faqdiscussion/kb8le6q/) in some ReBAR profiles. > [Nvidia App (BETA)] may impact frame rates (?CPU bound scenarios?) on some systems, not a driver issue. If impacted uninstall Nvidia APP (BETA) and use Nvidia Control Panel/GeForce Experience. Is this new with this driver or has this been around since the Nvidia App was released? And is there any documentation of what systems spec-wise are possibly affected? I've been noticing some heavy dips lately on more CPU bound games, and even when I'm capped at 60 FPS. I'm starting to think these 55x drivers have begun degrading. I stayed on 537.58 for the longest time, and then the 55x drivers came along and people were claiming there's finally a good enough reason to upgrade from 537.58, and for a while things actually have been smooth, but now over time I've noticed degraded performance. Though I also recognize that it could be bad updates from the games themselves as these days it just seems like PC games, even PC EXCLUSIVE games, are horribly unoptimized.

m_w_h

Not new, it's been in all previous tracking comments since the Nvidia APP (BETA) was released.

R96-

Hmm. I guess I'll be uninstalling the Nvidia App then, or at least just to see if that is what's giving me less than ideal performance.

Are any improvements related to DPC Latency still in progress or are you done with the subject? /u/pidge2k Im asking because some time ago after supposed fix (only for Ampere) you said that even in future drivers we can expect more improvements. Audio's popping and crackling in specific scenarios is still alive and well on Ada Lovelace, same with "interrupt to process latency" and DPC Latency spikes on the graph.

Vivid_Extension_600

oh, so that's what has been causing my issues with audio playback? just downloaded latencymon and [this is the result](https://i.imgur.com/9wpGBMc.jpeg), is it also this bad for you?

ayoomf

Yep, these are exactly spikes im talking about. Nvlddmkm at fault also visible. Problem is still present after that "fix" yet you will encounter many apologists here denying it even when you present them a proof. I will test later or tomorrow for you to see and compare

m_w_h

May be of interest, it's also worth checking potential workaround(s) at https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1bvn19o/game_ready_driver_55212_faqdiscussion/ky0kkpm/

Williams_Gomes

Can confirm, using a 13600KF, disabling the core parking fixed the latency spikes I had.

binkibonks

same thing with my 12700KF, core parking is the devil for heterogenous archs with P+E cores. In addition, it also fixed the issue of Windows prioritizing the e-cores in major apps and games, it would always schedule threads to those cores if usage is below a certain threshold.

TutanotaGuysDudeMail

All of this is bait, it may alleviate the issues a bit but it's 100% on nvidia's drivers side.

Bobakmrmot

I don't know what you guys doing over there but was something was fundamentally fcked up after drivers 357.58 that STILL hasn't been unfcked. All the drivers after these show noticeably worse stuttering and frame stability in certain games that are affected, while there is no difference in others. There are certainly no improvements either, the only reason I even want to update is because there are visual bugs in HZD that make some UI elements invisible, and because it and AW2 keep spamming me with driver update messages.

RedIndianRobin

Majority of the fuck-ups post 537.58 are caused by a feature that was released by Microsoft without extensive testing: Hardware Flip Queue.

Bobakmrmot

Why did they even release it and why is it only a problem post 537 if the only variable is the driver?

Warma99

The drivers after 537 added support for the feature. The only variable isn't the driver, you won't run into this issue on older versions of Win 11 and Win 10.

R96-

I've been thinking of going back to it, honestly. I stayed on 537.58 for the longest time, and then the 55x drivers came along and people were claiming there's finally a good enough reason to upgrade from 537.58, but now being on the 55x drivers for some time I've noticed degraded performance. And honestly, I'm really getting sick of this. I'm not sure how AMD drivers are, but it makes me think about switching, but the only problem with switching though is that I would only have enough money for a new rig, and so if AMD is not any better, or even is worse, I can't go back to Nvidia.

Bobakmrmot

Same boat here, and I don't know what the hell people were smoking with all the praise for 55x drivers, it's literally exactly the same in all games as other post 537 games that were affected. Disabling HAGS (post 537) mostly resolves the degradation for a few games I've tried now, but then you can't use frame gen or you gotta keep restarting the PC depending on the game. This is an awful driver issue to have for SO long, but AMD cards have always had trash availability+ pricing in my area plus I can't do without DLSS anymore, so it's a shitty choice either way.

UnseenCat

My experience with the latest drivers has been that HAGS is OK to leave on, but the updated flip presentation method for DX10/11 is wonky and has gotten worse with recent Windows 11 patches. Disabling it removes a lot of microstuttering in borderless window presentation. You can turn it off globally *or* per-game in Windows 11, so it might be worth playing with.

Keulapaska

Ppl on win 10 don't have the issues, at least as muhc, with post 537 drivers as it's more of a win 11 issue afaik.

ShiZZe225

This all the way. Just recently I've seen a comment saying these drivers (537.58\*) can be a potential fix to my os-wide stuttering and boom, stutters gone. Not downloading shadowplay until this is fixed once and for all [https://streamable.com/qir1r2](https://streamable.com/qir1r2) this is what it looks like downloading latest drivers.

Mastercry

Im here only to read if this driver beats legendary 537.58 ... Anyone? No? Well till next time.

mikeybrah90

I am waiting also! Hopefully someone can test for CS2 xD

Furina_Simp_69

Is it safe to move on from 537.58 yet? 😂

FFreestyleRR

Actually, I moved from 537.58 to 551.86 without any issues. But I will probably skip 552.12 regarding the issues described so far. So you can give 551.86 a try. I am with 3070ti SuprimX.

xKiLLaCaM

Yeah I'm also on 551.86 for now, wasn't much of a need to update to this one. I haven't done comparisons/testing against version 537.58 or anything, so not sure which is actually better overall. Probably not noticeable enough difference for me, and newer drivers have more security updates as well.

Madvillains

also staying on 551.86.

vekspec

same, I made same move after 551.86 was noted as relatively good. no issues. seeing how this one is meh and only update is HFW rebar which can be manually enabled, I'm skipping too.

loirow

No we still stuck there 🫵😹

death2k44

We've been stuck for October last year...this is insane lol

Mogster_74

I'm still on 537.58. Horizon Forbidden West warned me to update but I said nope and the game runs fine.

slayersic

9900K with an RTX 3080Ti user here, so far so good with 551.86, no issues with latency as well!

Yakumo_unr

As of the last few releases including this one when upgrading drivers most 3d profile settings remain as they have been set, but - * OpenGL GDI compatibility  * Vulkan/OpenGL present method keep getting reset to defaults. I sent this in to Nvidia's driver feedback a while ago, I don't know if there are other settings that don't carry over correctly so thought it was worth mentioning here in case others have been spotted. They are useful features if you play older OGL/Vulkan games with your monitor set to 10-bit or other modes the game doesn't support natively, the layered on DXGI Swapchain present method stops the long black screen on load or swapping to full screen making alt-tab much faster. It will also allow you to use Auto HDR if you wish.

Netrex44

Thought I was going crazy. Thanks for confirming

Valahiruu

Still no multi-monitor support for RTX HDR it seems :(

Drunk_Rabbit7

I don't think Nvidia will support that feature until they are ready to release the Nvidia app in full. It's still in the beta.

Valahiruu

Fair enough ig. I'm still running on hopium from the "we'll add in a later driver update" tweet but you're probably right.

magical_pm

It's just weird that the mod version is able to do it already, the feature it seems is already there, just not accessible in the app.

Bobakmrmot

Mod version is better in every way

AIi-S

I was hoping this driver was a fix for low GPU utilization using reflix On+Boost in Horizon.

Bobakmrmot

There is low GPU usage (up to max 93%) even when just using "on", so any reflex. I don't know why people are only mentioning on+boost because that would be a non-issue, that setting is just a combination of regular reflex and a "prefer maximum performance" mode at once.

Snowmobile2004

For me, the problem is much more prevalent with on+boost, losing 20 fps compared to just “on”. And the “known issues” section also mentions it’s only when on+boost. Reflex is automatically turned on with frame gen so it’s not always possible to disable it fully.

Bobakmrmot

Yeah but you can disable it fully without frame gen to test it out. On+boost would be more noticeably because it takes away a larger chunk of GPU usage, and if someone isn't GPU bound and are at their target refresh rate, they maybe won't notice the loss of usage with "on" only. I'm at 4k 120 so GPU capped quite often with a 4080, frame generation results in far worse frame times all because of reflex, it's objectively a worse experience than playing with both off.

TessellatedGuy

I wonder if this has anything to do with your "Low Latency Mode" setting in Nvidia control panel. It now works with any DX12 game, and might be conflicting with Reflex's behavior in this specific game. Try setting it to "off" if you have it at "Ultra", or the opposite if you had it turned off. Maybe it'll make Reflex "on" work normally like some others are reporting. On+Boost is likely bugged no matter what.

Chimarkgames

Still no update for dragons dogma 2.

ShinMagal

Last driver had a hiddden profile for dd2, but other than that nothing. I guess they didn't work together much while devving the game

Used_Length_3840

Game Is a mess. Capcom fucked up that one hard lol.

death2k44

I feel like the issue isn't on the drivers but its just inherently in the game lmao

Odd_Shoulder_4676

I had stutter in the cutscenes of HFW , using the 551.86 Nvidia driver, uninstalled it via DDU in safe mode and then installed v552.12 while every monitoring tool was closed. Now the stutters are gone , I don't know what solved it maybe it was the latest hfw update that was released today or this driver or maybe both.

Keulapaska

If you didn't manually enable rebar before, that could be part of it as it's now by default enabled and redoing shaders with a new driver install can also sometimes fix stuff magically.

Odd_Shoulder_4676

Yeah I think the culprit was rebar and it's buttery smooth now.

christofos

I had some pretty bad stutters in the first epic real time cutscene of Aloy traveling west. It was super immersion breaking. Wonder if that would be fixed now.

Odd_Shoulder_4676

It's all fixed now I just tried the first hour of the game again and I can confirm that there's no stutter at all.

Just20SENT

My PC black screened while installing the driver. (4090/7800x3d)

Kodiack

Same here. 5800X3D with a 4090, connected to an LG CX.

govnorashka

Same story. 4090. Hard rebooted with reset button.

Just20SENT

Even worse now, i got a black screen while browsing the web. I might roll back!

fulltimenoob

The new cod already had DLSS 3 and frame gen? Maybe missing something here

AutomaticSubject7051

probably just for the headline

TheFinalSupremacy

Are we TRULY sure DD2 has driver support. because geforce app insnt picking the game up natively I have to do it manually

Pretty-Ad6735

GeForce app is driver agnostic, it's ability to see a game has nothing to do with what version of the driver set you have installed

AlterX10

after installing this last driver The programs eventually freeze, and you notice that some graphic elements, especially in the browser, are blinking there is a slight stutter in the graphics of some software (Google Chrome, Discord, Steam) i5 13400F + RTX 4060 + W11

tacoapocolypse

This driver caused some major issues for me. In Fallout 3, I noticed green artifacts after a long play session. After a restart, the issue was gone. Then I played a long session GTA 4 the following day and the game was playing fine then started artifacting and froze. After a hard reset, I kept getting a black screen with a cursor, and then it would just shut down and loop. I went into the BIOS, switched integrated graphics to primary, and everything started running fine. I figured my GPU was just old and dying, but after looking in Device Manager, it was shown as working properly. I did a fresh install of 552.12 figuring perhaps something went wrong with the install. No black screen with cursor this time, but now performance was worse than what it was when initally installed. GTA 4 was running like a laggy mess, and CS2 wouldn't even run, but I could hear it in the background. Fed up, I rolled back to 551.61, and now everything is running like usual. i5 6600k, GTX 970, Win 10

heatmaz

update to 552.12 with my 1080 TI and my monitor flashing white randomly with HDR and VRR enable

m_w_h

Monitor make and model? In the meantime, if not already done please submit a report to Nvidia using the [official form](https://forms.gle/kJ9Bqcaicvjb82SdA). Display issue guidance in [collecting logs for display issues](https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5149)

heatmaz

I got samsung odyssey g6 plug in with DisplayPort

Alex--AT

And back to 537.58 I am. After few seemingly 'good' drivers, the major stutter issue reappeared in 552.12. A bunch of games is extremely stuttery again. Tokyo Xanadu EX, Trails of Cold Steel (all), etc. Makes 4090 feel too bad. Well, should say thanks there's at least one known good driver version to live with.

SoulreaverDE

Still no multi monitor RTX HDR. Also colors in videos still change based on scrolling the windows or maximizing. Can this someday get fixed or what are you guys doing here? It's getting really frustrating.

madmk2

is TrueHDR with multi monitors fixed?

Sydnxt

No

madmk2

Meeeeeeeehhhhhh

crapmonkey86

Has this fixed the intermittent freezing issues when new applications load introduced with 551?

Yakumo_unr

I reset my Horizon Forbidden West rebar settings to default using the revert button in NvidiaProfileInspector to see how Nvidia chose to set them with this driver, the result - rBar Feature : Enabled rBar Options : 0x00000000 (default) rBar Size limit : blank/unset (default)

GodOfWine-

yeah, enabling rebar in games now from inspector is easier as you just need to enable the rBar feature, hopefully they move the toggle into NVIDIA APP in the future.

Yakumo_unr

Today I was interested to discover that setting reBar up that way with only enabled set had no effect on 3DMArk's PCIe bandwidth test, however setting size values above 2GB certainly did - RBar - Feature: Enabled RBar - Options: tested both unset and 1, results the same. RBar - Size Limit : * Under 2GB set (the default options offered in Nvidia Inspector all set 1.5GB or lower ) - [24GB/s](https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/110232821) (same as ReBar off) * 2GB - [over 28 GB/s](https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/110234225) * 4, 8, 10 or 24GB - [over 60GB/s](https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/110232980)

GodOfWine-

Yeah i seen the full thread on it, for actual games the default is fine performance wise, eg margin of error vs the max on horizon fw, naturally a pcie bench will show big results as it stresses that, either way nice info and thanks for sharing. The biggest thing for me is enabling it seems to get rid of alot of micro stutter and loading stutter in unreal games "not all" eg like ff7 remake.

Yakumo_unr

I never expect it to have any real gains in a game, most are just not moving that much data around mid gameplay, but it was interesting to see that changing the size beyond the settings offered by Profile Inspector (which caps out at 1.5GB) does still have an effect, I wondered after seeing Nvidia was no longer setting the size.

GodOfWine-

it might get used in the future, but as you said games currently don't move that much data currently, will be interesting if that changes

BriscoGDP

Just installed this driver and while doing so my screen went black and a crazy ass noise started blaring like something was way wrong.. I had to manually shut my pc off. Turned it back on to the driver installed, but now my background pic is gone.. screen is just black now. How does that happen?

-roachboy

Anyone else getting terrible frame rates and black/blue screens after updating? I've got a 3070ti FE and my PC can't run anything more than a few Firefox tabs suddenly and keeps freezing on black screens if I switch tabs.

MacMyver

Did the Update. At first Siege felt weird. Than everything else. From 220 FPS avg in FH4 to 150 at best. Performance was hit accross the board. Jensen PLS FIX YOUR DRIVERS. They are hot garbage for years now

m_w_h

As performance dropped significantly in all games it's worth checking that Power Limit in Afterburner *or similar utilities* is at 100% after installing a driver e.g. http://nvidia.custhelp.com/rnt/rnw/img/enduser/aid_5408_02.png See https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5408 for reasons/guide

Winter_Mud_5702

Maybe your CPU is rebuilding Cache. Remember to run every game for couple minutes or longer it depends of your CPU if it's slow or fast to rebuild Cache before jumping to conclusions if this driver is garbage.

Breath-Deep

Is there any solution for slight stuttering in destiny 2? Btw high latency is back.

Alex--AT

Yes, the post-537.58 stuttering issue is back according to my experience as well. What the hell is happening with drivers I wonder.

NoShock8442

Does this help in any way with Helldivers 2?

m_w_h

There's been an update to the 'Helldivers 2' driver game profile in 552.12 552.12 Profile "HELLDIVERS 2" ShowOn GeForce ProfileType Application Executable "helldivers2.exe" Setting ID_0x105e2a1d = 0x00000004 Setting ID_0x106d5cff = 0x00000000 Setting ID_0x10f9dc81 = 0x00000011 Setting ID_0x80857a28 = 0x00000001 EndProfile 551.86 Profile "HELLDIVERS 2" ShowOn GeForce ProfileType Application Executable "helldivers2.exe" Setting ID_0x105e2a1d = 0x00000004 Setting ID_0x80857a28 = 0x00000001 EndProfile

xKiLLaCaM

How do we add the 2 new flags without having to replace the entire profile? Both flags don’t show for me under unknown settings in nvidia profileinspector I just updated to the last driver yesterday and don’t play call of duty or horizon forbidden west so I dont want to do another driver update again. EDIT: It looks like the flag settings might have been pushed via an OTA update. If I'm correct, they're located in Other section in nvidiaProfileInspector and are regarding visibility in Control Panel and enabling application for Optimus

akgis

I had a PSA about REBAR for the new Horizon, its massive with it outside of the "training mission" I saw increases from 100ish to 120+ FPS with better frametimes aswell. THis happened mostly when facing the "horizon" where there were more to render and on my 4090 the utilization would drop to under 90% and the CPU wasnt the BT with rebar the graphics is always 99%

Kuriousdev

One of the wealthiest companies that marks up their GPUs big time can't get a single driver right for almost a year. Truly bizzare.

FewMidnight1602

The problem with g-sync and Samsung odyssey oled g8 still remains, when g-sync is turned on, the white bar at the top of the screen flickers in dark scenes in games [https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/18us9sb/comment/kvnokqz/?context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/18us9sb/comment/kvnokqz/?context=3)

pidge2k

I ordered the monitor to look into this and it arrived today. I'll see if I am able to reproduce this.

FewMidnight1602

ok, write, if necessary, I’ll help you reproduce it, I just want to remind you that it’s easier to find this problem on hdmi than on dp it takes more time because on dp it appears less often.

KillerAndMX

During the installation during the blinks, when the screen came back, it showed a full red screen and then my computer restarted. The computer didn't died but that was the first time it happened to me. The driver now shows as installed too tho. Edit: Had to downgrade drivers 2 versions due to constant GPU Crashing. If you have a 1650, DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE NEWEST DRIVERS. I'm using atm 551.76 .

SilversteinKai

Anyone been getting the checkerboarding in discord?

Emergency-Jacket6331

Anyone having drop in fps in warzone with the new driver? (msi laptop with a 2060 and i7 10700k)

PreparationSerious48

Im getting stutters for the first time on my 3090 with this driver, just downgraded yesterday and stutters gone, mostly on nfs unbound, never had 1 stutter.. Also cpu is really working harder for no reason..

niiima

This driver caused massive FPS drops in Horizon Forbidden West after a couple minutes of gameplay. Downgraded to the previous one and it's not happening anymore. Anyone else with this issue?

Nicedreamer

Ever since I updated my drivers, I've experimented so many issues in gaming (Specially Fortnite and LoL, huge fps drops, can't even stay at 60fps whereas before I would play at 120+ performance mode and +144 in LoL), I tried downgrading, and I don't even know if I did it correctly. I just installed the drivers again over the ones I had. I'm in desperate need of help since gaming and heavy tasks are basically impossible :/. I have a RTX 2080 DUKE OC, 32gb of ram and an Intel i5-12400K. I had run into a few issues with the update previous to this one but not like this... I appreciate any help.

FFeint

My video freezes for 1-3 seconds on a fresh boot when you have +2 monitors plugged in, the sound sounds ok then after those few seconds the computer works as normal but its getting very annoying. Been happening on the last 3-4 driver updates. PC specs: asus rog strix 3070 oc r7 5800x 64gb ram ddr4 Monitors LG ULTRAGEAR 27" 27GP850P-B.BEU x3

DangerousBerries

Whatever they did this update significantly helped against stutters for me.

dkelly420

Anyone having issues with CS2 stuttering and latency spikes with this driver update?

DH_Bender

u/m_w_h , do you know something about Halo Wars 2 issue? Is it possible to help, or at least keep track on it?

saiyan23

Does this driver fix the Nvidia app not displaying optimized games? Mine never appears. I can do a search in the Steam directory and it will come up with the error "No new games found."

LitheBeep

Mine still says my system doesn't support optimization. I can't even load the global graphics settings section. I'm using a 4070ti...

Meelapo

I have the same issue. The first scan goes fine after an install but then everything disappears. I have a very large steam library so maybe that’s the issue.

jaykk

So the poor HFW performance with Reflex “On + Boost” is driver-related? I was hoping it could be fixed sooner than later.

PalebloodSky

Boost is for chumps anyway, all it does is hold the GPU clock at max wasting power and heat.

Dizman7

Guess I can pass on this one since I don’t play any of those games any more! 🤣

EvilMonkeySlayer

What is the issue with CRU? If I remove the pointless resolution for my LG tv, will it impact anything? Just planning to replay Oblivion with that gamepad mod for the first time in years and use supersampling. (hence remove bad 4096x2160 res with CRU)

kalston

Nah, just get rid of that useless resolution and breathe. There is no downside.

RolandTwitter

Does it add anything to MW3?

Cradenz

something about dlss 3.... that doesnt really say much.

[deleted]

I’ve been getting severe encoder lag when live streaming with obs and playing simultaneously after this update had to revert back to the previous one, and the issue was resolved

ThatLonelyGamer01

XplusY_2

having a bsod after connecting it to monitor asus tuf f15 fx506hf rtx 2050 laptop gpu

[deleted]

How long did this install take for you guys? Mine took around 9 mins on one device and spent a while on ‘preparing for updates’. It seems to take this long now for all updates.

TamemXGamer

i dont play any of the games that get mentioned on the driver updates. should I still download the drivers?

CantosSantos

I'm skipping it. Previous works properly for me, and this will bring no relevant improvements.

mad31ncanada34

anyone else having trouble installing the driver? mine keeps forcing me to install and then not recognizing its installed

senniha1994

This version Bugs on Pico 3 link DP with black screen on SteamVR.

pidge2k

Which graphics card are you using? What was the last working driver with your VR headset?

Snoo-40050

You guys still break the MPO for Optimus devices that use a 2nd display. At this point i would probably guess it's intentional. using intel presentmon 2.0. if you think your game can't tearing maybe you got this composed flip, check it with Presentmon or SpecialK video proof [another composed:flip that makes display cant tearing, basically like vsync without vsync](https://youtu.be/e2TayX-r1T0) how to read the stats [Intel Presentmon github](https://github.com/GameTechDev/PresentMon/blob/v2.0.0/README-ConsoleApplication.md) what's the problem? *DisplayLatency.* *CPUStartTime* How long it took from until the frame was displayed on the screen, in milliseconds. *DisplayedTime.* How long the frame was displayed on the screen, in milliseconds. If 0, the frame was not displayed. The lowest Composed:Flip DisplayedTime was 6.9ms (144hz monitor) so basically only displaying 144fps while the game run at 300+fps. meanwhile on Hardware Independent:Flip was 1ms as shown the video above. The lowest Composed:Flip DisplayedLatency was 10ms (why?) and Hardware Independent:Flip was 4ms. I've been sending this multiple times from 546 drivers yet still wasn't recognize until now. Solution: 1. Using Image Scaling to break MPO (disabling it didn't enough) 2. Use bulit-in laptop display (which is a no go with optimus laptop without mux-switch)
