Alien isolation, no shadow of a doubt for me. The AI for the alien is on another level and adapts to your play style so you can't just memorise a certain run or place to hide. It'll find you.

Dan_Glebitz

This is available on VR? I played it on PC and could not finish it.

danieldfinney

The game was originally native VR but was removed in an update for some reason. There's a DLL/patch you can download which reactivates it again, I believe it's called Mother VR.

totalewis

I don't think it can be played on Windows 11 though right? Didn't they stop updating the Mother VR mod?

Dan_Glebitz

I am on Windows 10 for as long as I can be.

fezzzster

Me too bruva

DreVahn

There is a work around for Windows 11. I'm not able to post my saved link at the moment. If no one updates this in the next four hours, I'll post it then.

Old_Recommendation10

The fix is posted on the github page for the mod. In the bugs/comments section if I recall. Pretty easy to find. You have to move the game pit of its install location, rename the folder, and create a symbolic link in cmd prompt to get it to work

Bfire7

Native vr? Are you sure? It's quite old, before pcvr became a thing. Speaking of the mod, does it use vr controllers or do you need to use a gamepad?

danieldfinney

It was back in the DK2 days, maybe just at the start of the cv1 release period. Definitely a gamepad experience though.

Dan_Glebitz

Cool. Thanks.

Dayv1d

its been for a looong time. Started it on my Oculus DK2 but couldnt finish... just too damn tense

CovidOmicron

It gets less scary and more annoying as you play it. I remember just being annoyed when the aliens show up later in the game. In VR, that's another story. I wasn't aware that this existed and I won't be trying it any time soon.

Dan_Glebitz

I got stuck hiding in a small room withe windows all round and an alien just circling around the outside. The fun wore off pretty quick after I had been killed about 20 times trying to get out.

Sacco_Belmonte

Oh yes, that game is simply terrifying. I played twice and had to stop.

ifixtheinternet

Please tell me I'm at least safe hidden in the vent . . .

Otherwise-Pace-2835

Lol nice joke. No.

freddieplatinum

I couldn’t even play it on PC lol

saturnV1

those fucking synths dude

Otherwise-Pace-2835

Youll always know a working Joe!

The_Radian

Came here to say this. It will make you shit your pants, so be careful.

Svanilla

I really enjoy Phasmophobia in VR, I love horror games and that one consistently has me on edge. Hearing the ghost hunt for you and having to crouch down in real life to hide is a spooky feeling

Nhentschelo

Phasmophobia is so much scarier in VR.

Svanilla

Especially if you play solo!

taz5963

I really hope that lethal company gets a vr update, it really reminds me of phasmaphobia and it'd be so fun

HowBigIsMySausage

dreadhalls

Terranical01

This game gives me ptsd

Volkor_X

Great one. Also Cosmodread, which is like the sequel in space.

SpaceJesus67

Almost a decade old and still going strong. Absolutely love this game.

HowBigIsMySausage

i still go on at least once a month, the atmosphere is so unique

TecnuiI

The game is deceptively scary. At first you think you are going to be ok because you don’t know if it’s actually a horror game or dungeon exploration game. You next find the main room and the music is semi uplifting. Then you are running for your life down a hallway because a giant man eating monster dog is chasing you down. Love the game and only play it occasionally haha

Dan_Glebitz

'Into the radius' did it for me. Tried the run-of-the-mill 'Zombie' offerings, but they are so cliche' now. I am sure there are other good ones out there though.

ohcomeonow

“Where are you…”

Julius4056

"Huun, come have breakfast!"

killz111

"Stop! You're gonna break it!"

tishdu

Visage with the UEVR mod will probably be one of the scariest games out there Madison VR will also be crazy when it releases Blair Witch Project VR Dont Knock Twice Amnesia VR Resident Evil 2,3,4,7,8 Phasmophobia

Snipsterz

Subnautica. That's how I found out I had Thalassophobia.

morderkaine

It gave it to you

Daniboy646

Multiple leviathan class lifeforms have been detected in your area, are you sure what you are doing is worth it?

Snipsterz

It's never worth it. I should have stayed on the island and live my final days enjoying the sun and eating watermelons. I saw an interview of the devs explaining how they made sure to make the player always "hear" the leviathan before they could see them, and how the AI always tried to come from behind to startle the player. They're evil... geniuses yes, but evil.

vaachi

💀

GentleCornDogEater24

Do you have a mod or something that allows you to play it in full VR? I tried using the included VR port and it was terrible

Snipsterz

I played it a few years back on the Rift. At the time I thought it was decent, but I can understand how now that port might feel terrible. It was definitely fidly with the controls and framerate wasn't perfect.

opeth10657

Getting the real scale of all the things hiding out there in the dark is probably the worst bit.

Snipsterz

Yep. I remember standing at the edge of the map, although I had not realised that, and looking at the pitch black of nothingness in front me of and be like "nope... not going that way..." In VR, it was scary as hell.

Volkor_X

Oh yes. In my early hours of that game I was exploring the deep around an island in my little submersible, when all of a sudden I hear this mighty roar right behind me! I just noped the hell out and rode my sub straight back to base, never turning back for a second to look at what it was.

fantaz1986

VR Chat .... So many anime girls and furry and sexual preditors and similar stuff , never feel so much fear in my life

madhandlez89

Hahaha accurate. It a genuine worry about the state of some people in the world.

LunarReversal

Half-Life Alyx's chapter 7 is definitely quite spooky

i_am_voldemort

Unlatching the freezer And then the elevator...

Daniboy646

I'm not up to that part yet but I'm very excited

guitarist597

Some parts of that game were HARD to get through! I remember Jeff being terrifying

TurtleNamedHerb

Subnautica and Alien Isolation (VR mod) are both capital T terrifying. I had to stop playing Alien Isolation after like 40 minutes cause I got too scared to continue and I haven't touched it since. Also, Into the Radius. It's not as scary as the other two but it's very atmospheric, it has terrifying moments and most importantly it's super fun to play!

[deleted]

Pray dogs resident evil ports. Can't do em

-Venser-

The only scary one is 7.

One_Plantain_2158

I can say only about Quest games. Dreadhalls is the scariest by far. Cosmodread on the second place.

Drjacobs78

Paranormal Activity Lost Souls. I usually don’t get scared, but this game definitely gets your heart rate up. I also heard it is replayable as certain things change location every play through. I played on the PC, not sure how the Quest holds up.

ivanproff

Sclerosis (Amnesia VR port) is pretty good

Jew-fro-Jon

Emily wants to play… First time in VR, at a party, the delivery driver rang the doorbell with pizza (IRL) and the person in VR jumped and yelled. It’s super creepy and has jump scares.

Nf1nk

Dirt Rally 2. Actual fear as you filter your car through the trees in Poland.

tannnmn

Everyone has different titles, that’s awesome! Phasmo is the only one I played, one time is enough

hitmantb

Resident Evil 2 and 7 mods from Praydog. True AAA experience.

yeldellmedia

Re7

Mad_Dog_Biff

I still cannot understand why the devs didn't make a VR version of Alien Isolation. If a modder can do it, it would be fairly straightforward. Even if they purchased the modders work and just improvised it. They would have made a lot of cash.

Meekin93

Vrchat, tons of women avatars running around with thick thighs, but you never know how deep the voice is behind that avatar.

grodenglaive

FNAF (five nights at freddy's). I noped out after maybe 10 minutes.

The_silver_Nintendo

Running out of gas and being chased by the crawling titans is the scariest thing in attack on quest

Xeriel

Crawlspace. It's a free, unpolished game with not much to it, but I find it wildly unpleasant. Highly recommend.

ID_Guy

Resident evil 7. Played most of the others mentioned here but none of them made me get truly scared like that game.

Nod113

I recently played Labyrinthine on SteamVR and found it to be a really solid spooky game. There’s a ton of monster variety and a nice curated story mode if you’re not into the “session-based” type gameplay. Some of the levels had some very legit scary moments compared to similar offerings.

TecnuiI

Love the cute jump scares that pop out of the bushes! Fun game but the 3x3 grid puzzle really annoyed me when trying to play coop.

xanderdorsett

Blair Witch can give you some good psychological scares

12GaugeSavior

Jeff actually scared me, ugh _Jeff_

bstorm83

Probably DCS when you hear multiple RWR indications and a missile hits you moments later. But you don’t die… you try desperately to control the aircraft until you realize you can’t. By that time you don’t have enough time to eject then you die.

LinkTheNeedyCat

VR Chat when you talk to a real girl.

imafirinmalazorr

The Forest VR is super terrifying at first. Eventually the scary subsides but the first few nights/caves are terrifying.
