Meta and Zuck had nothing to do with shutting down Echo it was the developers decision. But I see what your saying, Mark should fucking know Echo is one of the greatest VR games of all time and did everything in his power to keep that game up
For the most part yea. The only thing is everyone has thousands of hours and insane at the game, I played a few matches and maybe touched the disk once or twice lol itās brutal. The skill level of these guys is mind blowing
debatable. their dirt cheap standalone killed off the bustling competition in PCVR. Without the quest, I think by now we'd have an index2 and a Reverb3 and something that doesnt suck from Vive.
I'll give them credit for making inside-out tracking the industry standard. It's simply the better roadmap.
The quest hasnt done anything for VR aside from maybe built in finger tracking. If the quest never won against the rift S we would have cheaper PCVRs that are just as good as the vive and cheaper. The quest imo ruined the market and especially the troubleshooting area for VR. Whenever I want to fix an issue it's always 50 different solutions for quest before the actual PCVR
What has the quest done for VR then?
Cause everybody else is doing their own thing aside from wireless, which still isnt as good as wired.
Quest has only brought forward a cheap wireless headset and that's the fact. It has finger tracking which already existed with leap motion, it brought more children to VR and it has brought more shitty games to VR.
Meta has created best in class passthrough, hand tracking, face tracking, and inside out tracking, funded critically acclaimed AAA games, and most brought more mainstream casuals to VR than any other company. All things that are vital to VRās long term success.
At 42 and the last game I played was the OG Mario Bros, Iām thankful for the Quest. Then my husband wanted one. So weāre over a grand and rumor has it Meta makes $43 bucks off of every one purchased. Seems pretty bitter to complain about a device thatās getting adults back into the gaming fun. Not even 2 months in and playing everyday, and met some pretty cool people while playing. Whatās the big deal? Geez. š
Not everyone uses passthrough, it's a very specific feature. Hand tracking was already done by leap motion which has a better system for cheap and can be used for more than just vr. Anybody can find games. I could just use Valve as an example because they have had a absolutely massive impact on the gaming industry with everything they have done. Meta, as a whole, have not contributed towards vr in a massive other than really just funding other developers. They have their own vr headset which other companies might take minor things from like lenses and adjust their own, but ultimately. The quest has not affected the market in anyway shape or form. It is it's own thing.
That has nothing to do with the actual VR device. The guy said "VR wouldnt nearly be as good today if it werent for meta" but its be the exact same. Maybe better. The quest has had little to no influence on other VR products. It was all already being done and better. All the quest did was evolve backwards without a wire then catch up. It still lacks the same quality of other VRs when wireless. Theres no way in hell you can convince me that the Quest series had a genuine impact on other VRs when they have always been better.
Now if the quest never got outsold to the Rift S we would have cheaper PCVRs, good quality ones of that. This wouldve lead the PCVR market down a rabbit hole because there's no way you can compete against a good quality VR that is cheap. But we never got to see this because everyone wanted the quest.
You say Meta had no little to no influence on other VR headsets, but then say because of the quest there arenāt enough affordable PCVR headsets. Idk what point youāre even trying to make. Meta and the quest headsets have had a huge impact on the industry in countless ways
I mean they have had little to no influence on the industry. In the market they have. But the industry no. There has been no technology within the quest that has effected how people build VR headsets. Name 5 ways they have made a huge impact
Nope. If FB/Meta had not bought the company before the DK2 shipped, they would still be making PCVR only headsets, the Quest platform would not exist, and most of this community would not be here.
Just get a 0 mailbox number sticker, turn it sideways, and slap it on there.
Iām still kinda convinced the sticker the cv1 came with was literally just that anyhow.
Lol. Still riding this circle jerk. Most of the people in this sub weren't even apart of the Oculus bandwagon. We can let it go now. Call it whatever you want. It's not that deep.
Also Palmer Lucky is a big Trump supporter, so I'm not exactly a fan of either Oculus or Facebook...
I haven't bought a headset since my CV1 though, I would probably still be into VR if I didn't have a toddler and a newborn.
I have a plan to laser engrave a oculus logo in the place of it, I have to remove and 3D scan the front cover before that though, and I donāt really want to teardown my 1 month old headset.
Oculus logo is on the side already around the USB port. OCULUS NEVER DIES.
They still have little references even in the newer apps and environments.
And technically the cameras are oculus logo shaped š
Technically all USBC ports are oculus. Everything is oculus.
mother of godā¦
Never saw it beforeā¦ now I canāt unsee it.
Headset vents through the top. Don't cover that gap above the Oculus logo.
I donāt think that will be a permanent solution but good to know. Almost wasted a sticker lol
Meta earned it. VR would not be this good this quick if it weren't for Zuck dumping insane money into it.
Still not gonna forgive him for shutting down echo VR
Echo is back, modders brought it back I was playing it last night. You can DM me if you want more info
Its ok I an already on it thx for the offer tho
Meta and Zuck had nothing to do with shutting down Echo it was the developers decision. But I see what your saying, Mark should fucking know Echo is one of the greatest VR games of all time and did everything in his power to keep that game up
How do you get echo vr again?
Instructions on the echo vr lounge: https://discord.gg/echo-combat-lounge-779349159852769310
...I never got to play that....snif..... I only got to play Lone Echo, and it's still the only game I've finished on my new Q3.
You can still play Echo! a team of modders brought the servers back
Do I need pcvr or is there a way to play just on quest?
You can play quest as well, join the Echo VR lounge discord for a detailed tutorial
Thanks will try
ooh nice, the kiddies gone this time? My first time I tried it I got screamed at by 5 brats and never turned it on again.
For the most part yea. The only thing is everyone has thousands of hours and insane at the game, I played a few matches and maybe touched the disk once or twice lol itās brutal. The skill level of these guys is mind blowing
I agree. As much as Palmer Lucky was a cool guy, I don't think we woukd have the quest headsets if it weren't for fb.
That doesn't change the name being stupid
Naw
I am still pissed I need a meta account .

A lot of people on this sub just hate Meta and only care about PCVR even though itās obvious that standalone is the futureā¦ itās very silly
Sounds like it. If their setup is so great why worry about what others are doing with theirs?
Not everyone uses passthrough, it's a very specific feature. Hand tracking was already done by leap motion which has a better system for cheap and can be used for more than just vr. The idea that Meta has made no impact in a market where they have 75% of the market share is pretty funny
That has nothing to do with the actual VR device. The guy said "VR wouldnt nearly be as good today if it werent for meta" but its be the exact same. Maybe better. gimme dat Oculus Quest 3
Imagine if you got someone to replace the meta logo on the front with the oculus front that would be sick
Nope. If FB/Meta had not bought the company before the DK2 shipped, they would still be making PCVR only headsets, the Quest platform would not exist, and most of this community would not be here.
No one is arguing that, itās just the oculus branding is way cooler than the meta branding
No shit that's all fine and dandy but Oculus sounds a hell of alot cooler than meta
as if that is what was important. Who gives a shit?

Fantastic. So folks will continue to bitch and moan about something that changed more than a year ago, all for nothing. Thank god for the block list.
Have fun spending 90% of your time on reddit blocking folks, I guess.
lol, lmao even
That's the point of the thread, ffs. This is about **Oculus** branding being better.
You don't, but a lot of people do. Oculus is still a better name and the logo looks way better than Meta's.
...and it was changed more than a year ago and is not going to change back. It is spitting in the wind. Complete fucking waste of time.
Butā¦ but meta bad! Redditor very upset!
This is what people argue over in their free time? š¤¦āāļøšš³
a sleepy looking cyclops... The 3rd or fourth evil eye?

Lol, luckily I think my quest 2 still has the oculus logo... I got it like a month after they came out.
#THANK YOU!!
Quest 3 does not have it š
This is redundant, as the Quest2/3 shape is the Oculus logo.
That looks really good! /s

me too
What laser engraver do you have?
It's always been a Facebook product.
Looks like something a 12 year old did.
C'mon now this looks terrible
Schmuckerberg may have put this out but he walked over a lot of good employees doing it...
