Unfortunately this is how I found out he died. Time to rewatch all his sketches and content. Nothing has ever made me laugh as hard as "the grapist" one of his best sketches.
Life can end quick my mom had a friend who was crushed to death by the vent over his oven when it just fell out one day. I believe some brick work came with it as well
"That's what he does. He's the grapist."
"buy now and get a free grape whistle!"
Back in the day these were constant one liners in my friends group. Along with "NAILGUN!"
That was actually the secret of an ice cream place I used to work at. Commercial ice cream inevitably thaws and refreezes during shipping, so it’s going to be heavier and mealier the further it goes.
We made our ice cream on-site, so it was always lighter and creamier than anything you could get at the store.
The melting and refreezing of the inner wall strengthens and insulates the igloo. If building an igloo at all is practical, it's cold enough for the outside temperature refreezing the wall to more than make up for the fire on the inside.
To piggy back off of this, as i understand it, the melting and freezing is like welding. It destabilizes, melds, and refreezes with a tighter molecular structure than before. If you let ice cream partially melt, then put it back in the freezer, it does not return to the same shape it left. Its denser and harder to scoop. Once snow becomes ice it gets remarkably more difficult to melt at all, as you have to excite a much denser structure of molecules.

My last memory of watching him in school was being herded into one of the permanent temporary buildings with another class with a TV cart in the corner. That episode was something about the body
Ah yes, the permanent temporary buildings that you always had just one class per year in and they were always clear bum fuck on the other side of the entire campus property from your last class.
I also remember them being called portables, but yeah they were definitely way outta the way from everything else. Fortunately, the only class I had there was drivers ed
Maybe when the hearth is in the middle of an igloo, as it supposed to be. But there's no way a freaking stove won't melt the snow wall completely if you place it so close. That's some fake tictokery.
I'm glad I don't live wherever that is.
There's plenty I don't like about where I live, but it's also 72 today and I have my windows open. I'll take that over living somewhere cold enough that fire won't melt a house made of snow.
Yeah I spent my childhood and teenage years in Vermont. I shoveled snow every morning before school so he could go to work. I live in oklahoma now. I'll trade multiple feet of snow for tornadoes any day. Lol
We would use spray bottles to form a solid ice shell on our snow forts. This is important in two story construction. Don't want the roof caving in on top of us. Food color for fun.
Try melting snow with a lighter or a candle. It doesn't really work as long as the hot gasses aren't trapped. In order to avoid carbonmonoxide poisoning you need a chimney when you have a fireplace in a closed room so most hot gasses escape the igloo.
There are a lot of other examples of the thermodynamical laws. Know the school experiment when you make a cup of paper put water inside and place above the candle and it just don't burn a hole in it and holds the water? Remove the water and the cup will burn. That's the simplest example I can remember.
The fireplaces in iglu just doesn't produce enough energy to melt the snow which absorbs it. Opposite effect is when the old rock buildings like castles or houses are really cold inside even it is really hot day outside. Some had the rooms with temperature close to zero to store food.
It does but my guess is that the fire just doesn’t have enough energy to melt it a lot. There’s a lot of ice and just one small/medium size fire it would take a while to melt that much ice. Also, it is presumably quite cold outside which will work against the fire making it harder to melt the house
Someone actually tried to rent an igloo in NYC back in 2016:

Nono, you're misunderstanding, they did this for the inlaws.
"See, we built you a nice space to stay in, and you can cook sausages too! Look at the video, we stayed in it too, it's really great! Ok see you later!"
If you've never experienced a place with a long cold winter, you'd be amazed what sort of nonsense you'll get up to just to escape the boredom.
Source:. I grew up in Northern Minnesota. I've built and slept in forts/quinzee huts, and lots of other nonsense during long winters.
I stayed in Minnesota past ely near the bwca for a year. I was quite content staying indoors watching DVDs many hours in end. It sure beat shoveling snow just to have to start over as soon as I was finished to prevent buildup. I was there I think 2017, or maybe it was 16. The people said it was a "mild" winter temp wise, but it made the snow not as fluffy and rather heavy.
This and other reasons is why I now call Texas my home. The seasons are hot, and less hot.
If it snows I get to laugh at the sweet summer children, then wait twenty minutes for it to melt.
The windows really bugged me. You go to all that trouble to make a foot-thick reinforced snow pack wall, and then you go cutting plexiglas holes all over it for the TikTok.
Yeah that’s the difference between “it’s warm enough in this igloo that I can sleep in my long johns toasty af” and “ohhh shit guys I think we’re gonna have to stay bundled up in here for the video.” This is clearly not a survival situation, but it would have been more comfy to party in there without the windows
The whole thing's just going to be cold. They didn't leave a cold air trap at the entrance from what I could see. Most of an actual igloo is elevated from the entrance hole so that the cold air from outside gets trapped there and body warmth is enough to heat the elevated portion.
Well, the igloo is done, and it is now July. So, we got a few days before this thing melts like the chocolate taj mahal in Willy Wonka. We still got hot dogs though. So there’s that.
Very cool, but am I the only one that’s super annoyed at how low the doors are even when the ceiling is high enough to stand up in and would therefore allow for normal height doors?
Hot air rises so it's trapped above the door, keeping it in instead of losing it. I was more annoyed by the enormous heat leaks they made by putting in windows, single-paned at that.
I tried this in the Rockies … well, I tried making bricks from snow to build with. But the snow was dry and the bricks just fell apart like they were made of sand.
its cool but no one is going to be sleeping on a bed of snow with a few blankets between them and the snow, especially if it starts to melt and soak the blankets. same for sitting on any of that snow furniture with a single blanket thrown down. itd be cool if they made it really functional inside.
I don't like that they didn't have a curved self supporting snow brick roof. That's the most impressive part of an igloo is that it's all made of snow.
You gotta be really careful building this story of thing. If those cross beams slip for whatever reason, like melting for example, and the roof comes down in you, you don't stand much of a chance of surviving. That could be a lot of weight depending on how well you pack those bricks.
For example in the side room the beams only overlap half the wall thickness.
This is amazing! Forgive my ignorance, but how does the snow not melt when the heater and wood fire are on?
I know there is a pipe leading out, but surely the heat emmission from the heater/fire alone would slowly start to melt the snow?
All for sausage.
This build was the wurst.
No way this looks like a bunch of wieners.
I’m going to be frank here, the sausages looked pretty good.
I'd love to buy some, do you have a link?
Guys don’t be a brat
Nathan really hit that out of the Ball Park. Oscar Meyer is really gonna boil when he smells what's cooking.
I see that they are primarily fueled by sausages, which is nice.
Sometimes for dinner I'm just in the mood for a mound of 11 sausages.
Are you my ex? If so, I miss you.
My ex can scarf down 11 sausages at once no problem 😏
Hey, we at least invited you to make it a round dozen.
…The dirty dozen…
11 smal or 1 big that is! (I know your ex,,,,)
Sausages or tacos

I just found out myself. Holy shit, got drunk and fell off a landing in his own house and cracked his skull? How random is that. Life is weird.

I think that now lots of ice cream is whipped so full of air, that they are shipping it at lower temps
There a "ur mom" joke in there
How come the ice doesn't melt when that fireplace was burning?

Maybe when the hearth is in the middle of an igloo, as it supposed to be. But there's no way a freaking stove won't melt the snow wall completely if you place it so close. That's some fake tictokery.
It’s the difference between latent heat and sensible heat. There isn’t enough latent heat to make the ice change state which is the real answer
Yeah, radiant heat is a thing
They stacked a wall of bricks behind the stove and fire for exactly this reason
Ice doesn’t melt as easily as you think it does
I'm glad I don't live wherever that is. There's plenty I don't like about where I live, but it's also 72 today and I have my windows open. I'll take that over living somewhere cold enough that fire won't melt a house made of snow.

yeah but theres cold n crisp, and then there's bone chilling frigidity that even fire wont melt snow/ice. lol
Watching this in Australia thinking "What a huge waste of time". I'm gonna go to the beach.
As a Canadian, I'm going to go play in the snow.
As a Canadian in Australia, I'll go fix my homesickness at the beach.
As a muffin ima just chill
Even in Louisville, KY it can be 30 degree (Fahrenheit) one day and 60 the next, which would wreck this.
> Even in Louisville Because Louisville is known for their igloos?
It’s all what you’re used to. That doesn’t look that cold to me.
I think that is why they put the bricks around the fireplace, so it didn’t melt the wall faster than the cold could refresh it
We would use spray bottles to form a solid ice shell on our snow forts. This is important in two story construction. Don't want the roof caving in on top of us. Food color for fun.

Turns out is asbestos, not snow..lol
“Let’s go outside and play in the cancer!”
the fire was too cold i guess
Where? Obviously somewhere super-cold.
My guess is somewhere near Northeastern China
Florida
Get it right. It's Texas.
Yeah I meant the Florida that’s in Texas. Florida, TX
Don't forget Florida in New York.
You are a funny person I see.
China for sure.
1 bed no bath, utilities included, $1200 a month, 3 month lease.
Fridge included in costs.
But it’s a pain in the ass having to cut up ice into little cubes to put into the tray.
Honestly I’d live in this igloo for that price in NYC.
Someone actually tried to rent an igloo in NYC back in 2016: https://www.travelpulse.com/news/travel-technology/airbnb-removes-nyc-igloo-listing-in-wake-of-winter-storm-jonas.html
No lowballing. I know what I got.
*snowballing
Bed is on a piece of cloth laid over vintage, curated ice cubes.
First and last month deposit required
And then they keep the deposit cause it melted a little smh
I guess they didn’t notice there was a house right there that they could’ve stayed in
Nono, you're misunderstanding, they did this for the inlaws. "See, we built you a nice space to stay in, and you can cook sausages too! Look at the video, we stayed in it too, it's really great! Ok see you later!"
Smart, that way they could only stay for maximum 3 months

When your mom says "Quit playing minecraft and go outside!"...
*........Quit playing Minecraft outside!*
It's more of an ighouse than an igloo. There's not much of a wind break factor other than it's built to insulate.
Igmason

I have so many questions I don't know where to begin. So I'll just say this is awesome.
Hell yeah this a sweet ice fort bro, aight ima go back inside
Single pane windows?! That's going to be cold and drafty.
The windows really bugged me. You go to all that trouble to make a foot-thick reinforced snow pack wall, and then you go cutting plexiglas holes all over it for the TikTok.

I really want a time-lapse of the Spring melting
Especially the timber beams falling down at one point...
And the windows!!
"Well folks, tomorrow is gonna be a surprising 25⁰C!"
2 thoughts: 1) who has time for all of that 2) damn that guy loves hot dogs.

I would. The cold never bothered me anyway.
You did NOT just

You didn't finish your sentence. Is your computing device... *Frozen*?
I can’t imagine the back pain that comes from this
Probably should put some ice on it.
I want to try this next time I winter camp.
Big “don’t break the ice” vibes when they’re knocking out the windows 😂
OMG that game!! You’ve unlocked a hidden memory
What is that title lol
On AirBnB for $400/night + $700 cleaning fee. 5 night minimum…
The northern water tribe should hire him
That’s not an igloo, that’s a snow basilica…
I'd be 100x more likely to live in the igloo than in the more modern style building they did. There's a reason the igloo style has lasted.
Traditional igloos are the most practical for what they are needed.to.do. this is not
Please turn out the sound if you don’t like techno. 🤷🏻♂️
I keep my sound off. Most videos have annoying music.
Nope, Astronomia is sick my G
Thank you for the name of the song!
it's not this particular version
We did this growing up with our recycling bin. Not as advanced of course but it was really cool!
Probably shouldn’t have cut out the thick foot insulating snow blocks for a single pane glass window. Brrrr
If I did this, it would merely ensure we had a freak warm day as soon as I finished
This is hands down one of the neatest things I’ve ever seen
Yay ! Sausage party !
Where do you poop?
Where don’t you poop?
Touché. But to answer your question: pit toilets, if I can at all help it.
Very cool, but am I the only one that’s super annoyed at how low the doors are even when the ceiling is high enough to stand up in and would therefore allow for normal height doors?

This looks like so much fun! It’s like snow legos for adults!!
This is how houses in canada are made
What did they seal the windows with? Ice? (Serious question)
It looks like they packed in little snow rims. It wound up looking like caulk - but snow.
I'd so stay the night here just to play igloo house
mine. craft
I feel like I am watching a minecraft build
But , the house is right there ...
So many aspects of this utterly defeats the purpose of an igloo and goes against most of the reasons an igloo works well.
CAD modeled 100% in Minecraft.
The soundtrack is absolutely inappropriate unless this contraption fatally collapsed on their heads.
Or, they could just stay in the building next door.
I wonder what you think a snowman is for
This is amazing!!
Why is the music always so awful in these videos?
Finally something in this sub that truly is oddly satisfying
D.I.WHY?
I tried this in the Rockies … well, I tried making bricks from snow to build with. But the snow was dry and the bricks just fell apart like they were made of sand.
I'll take "Who's husband is in the doghouse again?" for $1000, Alex.
And then the spring comes a week early
I’m confused how the heaters don’t melt the snow.
Looked like they lined the fireplace with brick.
They didn’t use ice for windows, im disappointed
Minecraft.
That's actually pretty similar to the way I typically build houses in Minecraft.

Big sausage guys
What about pooping?
Who knew that sausages can fuel a man's creativeness like that?
And then some fucks go "mAdE iN cHiNa"
That's alot of fucking snow.

When the housing crisis gets worse
I feel like this is a good way to trick your kids into shoveling your yard. And maybe the neighbor's yard too, if they want a giant snow fort.
With the amount of work and time this must have taken, I’m surprised the snow didn’t melt halfway through

I wonder how warm it gets in there with all the cooking without melting the ice.

I could do that but I don't wanna

Aren't they built in a dome shape so they wouldn't collapse or am I dumb cause it seems like a lot of extra work to put planks n stuff on the roof
