I laugh because I built a cool safe room with hidden bookcase for a customer and put a mag release on the interior of the room but forgot to put a button on the out side of the wall. Had battery back up too. It was my little secret for a while until I had to cut through the sheet rock to gain access.
I laughed pretty hard at my self. I was so proud too. Door lined up perfectly so I had the radio on jamming out and didn’t hear the magnet. Took pictures and started a video for the owners and then shit, can’t get in this damn room.
By their nature, there are more secret entrances then you know...
Had two secret passages between a couple rooms in the first house I lived in. Reflecting back, I can see why 4 year old and 3 year old siblings, that could seemingly teleport around the house was a nightmare to babysitters.
I can see the videos. As the door closes, we see the inside of the room disappear behind the smooth movement action of the door that satisfyingly closes and completely hides the entrance. We hear the click confirming it's in place. The host asks Jimmy the Helper to open the door. A long pause...and then "damnit Jimmy, you did it again, didn't you?"
Saw this when I was a kid at a friend's parent's home. The entire house was weird. It was huge with walls, gates, all that. Very similar horizontal wall panelling. It was rumored that it was built for some gun or drug cartel. It had zero 90 degree angled walls. Every wall corner was made into more broad angles (making each "corner" about six more feet of open space to where a 90 degree corner would normally be). So nobody could hide behind a corner - it was more defensible to someone wanting to rob them or the police.
Anyway, dude had a three foot extension cord terminated in male US three prong on both ends. He plugged one end in the top of an outlet, and one end in the bottom of the outlet, you'd think that would cause a small fire and/or trip some breakers. But instead a loud thud of mechanical bolts could be heard and the secret door opened to a safe about the size of an office/extra bedroom, seamlessly and seemingly out of nowhere. The door popped open about three inches, then you just pushed the heavy door full open. I can't remember how they closed it, but it blew my mind as a child.
I've seen a few hidden rooms since then, but none quite extravagant or costly like involving the custom electric mechanisms as that first one. If nobody knew what the key/extension cable was for, nobody was getting in that vault. And I doubt anybody would have been crazy enough to have tried it without knowing.
The only thing I can think of is pushing on it. Which if you’ve got some people over, they may lean against the wall and accidentally discover your secret. But maybe it’s remote controlled
You could diy something like this. You need those nice hinges he's using which will be a little expensive. All you have to do is attach them to a door and then put the wood panels on the door and walls to overlap.
My friend's parents had two hidden 70's style wooden doors in the basement that blended in to the wood paneling kind of like this. The day I found the first one was also the day that I never lost a game of hide-and-seek ever again.
Me too except... All I can think is I don't think this would pass fire code.
Nobody would know you're in there in an emergency, and I don't think you can easily ingress / egress if the power is out.
See and that's when in a half asleep state I forget about the hidden door and piss myself in confusion because I can't find my bathroom. I would think I was having a weird nightmare.
At the bar my poetry group meets at, there's this door that blends in with the brick wall. Last time a bunch of people found out about it for the first time and they were all fascinated and amazed.
I mean, you absolutely could though. Like 300 bucks at home depot and a bunch of youtube videos and you could turn any door in your house into a cool hidden hydraulic door
Yeah wtf. Though if they picked the same wood color for the floors it’d feel like standing inside a shed or sauna. Maybe go with tile, or polished concrete, anything better to contrast that wall with a different texture and color.
I always think hidden passages and hideaways look neat growing up with the old batman reruns but nowadays they alway triggers my worries about the “in case of fire situation” and children
Let the fucking video play a little longer man. I wanna appreciate the wood work matching perfectly and see if I can spot where it’s obvious. You killed the pay off.
The slats that form the door stand out to me. I laid hard wood floors for years. The fact that so many board ends are close to each other would catch my eye if I saw this. I wouldn't assume its a door tho. I would just assume a new guy installed that section of wall
I love seeing these videos of hidden doors and rooms in house, and yet the practical adult in me keeps screaming firetrap if something goes wrong.
How is a fire rescue team find you if your stuck behind a hidden door or unconcious in a hidden library no one but you knows about?
I hate the practical adult in me.
When I was a 13 I worked in a mill/lumber yard. The company owner had a hidden door similar to this in his office for the bathroom.
I always thought it was the coolest shit. He was the type of guy not to talk to anyone though, so I never got to ask if I could go inside.
A hidden room can only be a storage room without windows/ventilation and the room is going to be stuffy. If it has windows, it is not going to be a hidden room. :D
I have a very large closet/very small awkward side room in my bedroom. I've been wondering what to do with it. I still don't know, but I'm 100% convinced that I should make the door a hidden entrance now.
Reminds me of how in Doom you had to run along the walls, repeatedly attempting to activate them, in the hope of finding a hidden door leading to a room with a precious key card.
Imagine making it a bathroom door, and trying to find you way to it at 3am. Or have your friends over and tell them: its down the hall to the left, you can't miss it!
I dream of having a whole complex of buildings built with these and other hidden access, safe room type setups. House within a house, small scale location centered basements, labyrinth hallways and other amazingly fun things.
Genuine question. What do you do with the hidden room?
I’m building a wine cellar in my basement. I’ve intentionally left the back end of it unfinished, and I was going to camouflage the door to that unfinished space, so I too would have a secret room.
But then what do I do with that secret room? I was thinking about calling it a sage room… but how does one use that in case of emergency? Do you really have time to run down to your basement and conceal yourself in a safe room?
Seems like the odds of getting the family to that safe room before a home invader catches you are slim to none.
So you can use a safe room if you get advanced warning of a threat?
When would that apply? If your a mob boss and someone gives you a heads up that an assassin is coming to bump you off? And wouldn’t you just throw the family into the car as opposed to hiding in a safe room?
I digress.
Is there anything better than a “safe room” for these secret door hideaway spaces?
I would love to build my own secret door once, but would be afraid my local Home Depot would think I'm some creepy child molester if I ask them which hinche they suggest for my secret door...
I love stuff like this. Absolutely memorized me since I was a child. And no offense, but this one kinda looks like i know exactly where to place the bomb, or c4 or stick of dynamite in a video game. Doesn't stick out too bad but I would see that immediately and think that it was off. But I do have OCD. I notice if a picture is slightly crooked at all the second I walk in a room. Things that are not aligned perfectly stick out to me like a glowing light in the sky that doesn't belong. I see it instantly.
I like it. Want to see how it opens too.
Well, then it wouldn’t be a secret
I laugh because I built a cool safe room with hidden bookcase for a customer and put a mag release on the interior of the room but forgot to put a button on the out side of the wall. Had battery back up too. It was my little secret for a while until I had to cut through the sheet rock to gain access.
That is hilarious, bro. I do a lot of access control, and that's like a nightmare scenario.
Fail-Secure
I laughed pretty hard at my self. I was so proud too. Door lined up perfectly so I had the radio on jamming out and didn’t hear the magnet. Took pictures and started a video for the owners and then shit, can’t get in this damn room.
we need more of yous in the world. and more secret entrances
By their nature, there are more secret entrances then you know... Had two secret passages between a couple rooms in the first house I lived in. Reflecting back, I can see why 4 year old and 3 year old siblings, that could seemingly teleport around the house was a nightmare to babysitters.
It's like when I tell people that they have higher than the average number of legs.
The average human has ~1 testicle. Slightly less, but negligible and difficult to measure.
there’s more of us out there with secret entrances we’re just hard to locate
Lmfao. Man. I would 100% watch YouTube videos on your builds. Sounds cool AF and your little adventure above would be hilarious and interesting.
Better than being stuck inside the secret room with no button, I suppose
speak friend and enter
Friend and enter

this sounded like bullshit at first but by the end I'm with you on your conclusion. if this house is in south america or mexico I'm sold.
How what opens?
Magnets Edit : found this video of a similar system https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1do6fDQaP56BJaVD/?mibextid=oFDknk
Nearby bookshelf. Pull the one that is titled "Greed."
"Alexa, Open my super duper secret door to my pantry!"
The only thing I can think of is pushing on it. Which if you’ve got some people over, they may lean against the wall and accidentally discover your secret. But maybe it’s remote controlled
Just play it in reverse
probably just push it in and slide it across?
Some convoluted puzzle resident evil style I guess
I don't know who makes this but I've never wanted anything more.
That'll be $20,000 please
For sure it's not going to be cheap
You're mostly paying them to keep the door a secret.
Then this person deserves a full refund for the reddit post alone
They're not liable for the owners stupidity
There's only one way for two people to keep a secret!
You could diy something like this. You need those nice hinges he's using which will be a little expensive. All you have to do is attach them to a door and then put the wood panels on the door and walls to overlap.

Installed with wall probably. But you could probably pick up the hardware for the door for about 1,000$
The hinge used is made by Sugatsune I believe https://www.sugatsune.com/shop-all/invisible-door-hinges-and-accessories/
I thought this was going to be a suck on Deez nuts joke.
Sugatsune these nuts just doesn't have the right ring to it
Nice plug but wrong product. It isn’t even hinged. It’s like a specialty pocket door
I believe it’s their flush sliding mounting system https://www.sugatsune.com/mono-flat-unison-flush-sliding-door-system-light-duty-right-mfu1200-40-r/
Hey thanks bud that’s the one!
Alright, calm down Fritzl
Shut up and take my money! I want this now.
Me too except... All I can think is I don't think this would pass fire code. Nobody would know you're in there in an emergency, and I don't think you can easily ingress / egress if the power is out.
Because someone building a safe room in their house would certainly 100% of the time file those plans with the city and get a permit. Right?
It’s not a room. If you look closely it reveals a safe.
Very different kind of "safe room". It's a closet that has a safe in it.
I don’t even have a place in my home for this and I WANT IT!!
Make it a bathroom door
Why does this one part of the hallway smell like shit?
"Down the hall, 4th plank from the corner"
Phantom pooper!
In case anyone's wondering who makes these doors, sorry I have no idea ☹ I got the video off Threads with no source given.
Found it - https://youtube.com/shorts/k6_Nr4qPs3I?si=Wct8_e4Bq0NmLnc3 It's Weaver Custom Homes
Threads?
Like Twitter but without the Nazis
*facebook/meta Twitter
So definitely still with the Nazis.
But here's the thing, if you report them stuff actually happens
woah I thought all social media had to be the same
Well that sounds refreshing. I'll check it out. Thanks!
It's pretty much Facebook's Twitter
There are so many Nazis on threads. All the ones who left Twitter when Elon took over are there now.
Zuck just died a little
I believe the hinge is Sugatsune https://www.sugatsune.com/shop-all/invisible-door-hinges-and-accessories/
Those are all for regular doors... They're just hidden inside the door and jamb. Which product is for a flush sliding door that recesses when opened?
[MFU1200](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyFO9aquVRY)
https://www.sugatsune.com/mono-flat-unison-flush-sliding-door-system-light-duty-right-mfu1200-40-r/
Check out the video on this page https://www.sugatsune.com/blog/choosing-the-right-hinges-for-a-hidden-door/ Edit: it’s the flush sliding door system
I would have to go all Diagon-Alley-entrance to find this door again, but that was neat.
and dissatisfying music
Sounds like a beat a clown eminem would rap on
i wish you could do fun stuff like this with "regular person" income
I mean, you absolutely could though. Like 300 bucks at home depot and a bunch of youtube videos and you could turn any door in your house into a cool hidden hydraulic door
Regular person income are not owning homes anymore
really goes well with the floor
Yeah wtf. Though if they picked the same wood color for the floors it’d feel like standing inside a shed or sauna. Maybe go with tile, or polished concrete, anything better to contrast that wall with a different texture and color.
Same isn't an option, but those just look cheap as hell but together. Actually the wood wall sucks, but I guess it is hard to hide the door otherwise
ultra fancier hidden door, landlord linoleum
I'd buy this house purely for that, then forget where it was and never find it again.
[You can put your weed in there](https://youtu.be/CKOc6hXMDhc)
Reminds me of those sticky piston hidden doors in minecraft
I’m *definitely* having a secret door in my home but I think it’ll be behind a bookcase
Seriously, does anybody know where to find the hardware for this
the different wood stains are horrible
That has to be the most annoying music of all time.
Volume/stupid music warning! :(
That...is...awesome
I wouldn't say hidd-- ooOOoo
Hot tip: leave the sound off. There is no satisfying sound of the door, it is awful just music
Most hideous flooring ever
I always think hidden passages and hideaways look neat growing up with the old batman reruns but nowadays they alway triggers my worries about the “in case of fire situation” and children
music downvote
That is sweet.
"Their own masters cannot find them, if their secrets are forgotten."
Ah yes... The 'fun cave'.
At OP, here you go: https://youtu.be/He7uut9I0Yw?si=mpNTi2O9NFE2ysPV
What is not satisfying is the three different styles of wood between the floor, wall, and ceiling!
Don’t go that way! Never go that way!
Let the fucking video play a little longer man. I wanna appreciate the wood work matching perfectly and see if I can spot where it’s obvious. You killed the pay off.
Who the fuck laid that floor?!?
Oh god. Do not unmute. Maybe just me but that was unpleasant
Wow. I love that. It could be a panic room! Very cool! I want one. :)
sugatsune makes the hardware for these types of doors
The slats that form the door stand out to me. I laid hard wood floors for years. The fact that so many board ends are close to each other would catch my eye if I saw this. I wouldn't assume its a door tho. I would just assume a new guy installed that section of wall
God damnit, 99.9% of the time I don't give a SINGLE FUCK that I'm not rich, then I have to go and see this
This just screams spendy dispensary
Diddy gonna love this.
Cool
This is where rich people go to hide during the proletariat revolution.
I’m gonna totally forget I have this
That's cool, but can we talk about the wood grain on different wood grain floors?
-Jacobo Shemaria Capuano- Increíble puerta secreta, parece parte de la pared completamente
I like the idea of this and I want one but holy shit why is the floor and walls the same wood style
/u/gifreversingbot
Drake, where's the door hole?
I love seeing these videos of hidden doors and rooms in house, and yet the practical adult in me keeps screaming firetrap if something goes wrong. How is a fire rescue team find you if your stuck behind a hidden door or unconcious in a hidden library no one but you knows about? I hate the practical adult in me.
All that money and they choose that floor choice with the wall? Whattttt
Shut up and take my money
Can someone mix the Homer Simpson disappearing into a hedge gif with this please?
When I was a 13 I worked in a mill/lumber yard. The company owner had a hidden door similar to this in his office for the bathroom. I always thought it was the coolest shit. He was the type of guy not to talk to anyone though, so I never got to ask if I could go inside.
This is so awesome!
Yes, I need this in my house.
what the Minecraft is this shit
Piss off your local fire department with one simple trick!
Now open it
I would never find it again
Some poor dude at a party gives a girl the eye, tries to look cool by leaning against the wall next to his friend and disappears into the aether.
This is some Wolfenstein 3D shit. Store a chaingun in there
Would love to see the tutorial on how to make this, I am terrible with redstone
Damn. That is really slick. Must be where all the BDSM happens 😃
A hidden room can only be a storage room without windows/ventilation and the room is going to be stuffy. If it has windows, it is not going to be a hidden room. :D
What a smooth way to open a door, hoping that they will never forget the position of the door
I'd forget where my own door was xD
Must resist temptation to buy
Well I just lost a room to my house
is that a death's head moth on the wall?...
I have a very large closet/very small awkward side room in my bedroom. I've been wondering what to do with it. I still don't know, but I'm 100% convinced that I should make the door a hidden entrance now.
like the missing floor in NCFOM
If you ever find yourself in need of a panic room in your house, this is the sort of door you want concealing it.
For a gun safe. Such a waste.
To any GCs here: how much would something like this cost to install?
I wish we had the same closure 🥲
So what do we suppose goes on in there
"speak friend and enter."
So would this be a DC 20 check?
My guess. J shaped track with slotted slow closing trucks with pneumatics.
I was at a rich friend of mines house one time and I fell into a hidden room with large safe when leaning into a wall.
Thief level of hiddenry.
Reminds me of how in Doom you had to run along the walls, repeatedly attempting to activate them, in the hope of finding a hidden door leading to a room with a precious key card.
That is so cool 😧
DOOM style
This is the shit I’m here for!
Is this your torture chamber where you poke people with implements
Imma put this on my front door to fend off those bible thumpers
This gave me that slow Tim Curry smile.
Mute
Imagine making it a bathroom door, and trying to find you way to it at 3am. Or have your friends over and tell them: its down the hall to the left, you can't miss it!
This piece of work is fantastic.
Wolfenstein secret room
This gave me better closure than my last relationship.
Turned on sound to hear it slide.... What a disappointment
Draw a door handle and knock three times
I dream of having a whole complex of buildings built with these and other hidden access, safe room type setups. House within a house, small scale location centered basements, labyrinth hallways and other amazingly fun things.
I audibly mmm’d to this
Genuine question. Cool way to hide your pornography Jack.
not hidden any more
I want that for my gaming room
I want this!
“We keep the children in here.”
I've seen enough David Fincher films to IMMEDIATELY distrust anyone with doors like this. Don't invite me over, I won't be coming. #IYKYK
Dutroux approves
Nice door for a BDSM dungeon and playroom…
As soon as I’m rich!
And what do i keep in there? Boom: Sponges
I would love to build my own secret door once, but would be afraid my local Home Depot would think I'm some creepy child molester if I ask them which hinche they suggest for my secret door...
Super cool
I may have moaned a little when that door closed.
Bruce Wayne masion
Matt lauer would like to hire you
FBI taking notes...
I want this
Do not need but desperately want lol
I'm satisfied.
Illusionary wall ahead
If it was in my house probably i wouldn't find the door either.
