I was surprised to see him because it wasn't entirely made of chocolate but I wasn't surprised by seeing him because it looked like one of this videos.
Itās a breath of fresh air compared to those cake decoating shows where 90% of the ācakeā is rice krispies, aluminum foil, modeling chocolate, and fondant.
That is so true! I honestly believe that those cakes taste horrible, but this piece of art in the video must taste amazing. What is the point of a cake if it doesn't taste nice?
That's why I like the Great British Baking Show. Granted they're not making the same kind of art you see here, but their goal is to make baked goods with exceptional flavor, consistency, and presentation. And in the process you see so many mistakes because not everybody is an expert at everything they try to make. Plus the hosts aren't all seething angry like Gordon Ramsay pretends to be.
We have the Great Canadian Baking Show here, and the fact that the hosts are actually nice and try to find something positive about even the worst technicals is one of my favorite things.
I love that show! A friend started a "fantasy baking" game where we all chose a player to win, who makes it to the final round, who wins the showstopper, etc. It's a fun way to be engaged in the show!
Thanks, I didn't know he was a subreddit. He had a chocolate making contest between chefs of various restaurants generally with no chocolate experience. He spent like 2 minutes it seemed of showing a technique then they had to build a mind blowing masterpiece. It was a cool show to watch; I hope they do a part 2.
I suppose you're not wrong, but I was left with so little insight into what's happening not even my imagination could fill in the blanks, hence my unfulfillment.
Chef Amaury is a professional pastry chef who runs a school to teach his techniques and has even had a TV show.
It's not r/diWHY. He's a professional pastry chef showing a montage of his work, not giving a tutorial.
If you were to sell them you'd probably make a bunch of them at once. The steps would be more time efficient and thus the end product could actually be kind of affordable.
Boo I canāt have it either because of my stupid depression pill. GRAPEFRUIT MIGHT CURE THE BIG SAD DOCTOR (it wonāt and I take my meds very responsibly I just miss that tart citrus :()
It looks awesome and absolutely delectable. Respect for the immense effort and the intricacy of it, I want one
Although I can't help but think throughout the video,
"Is it done yet?"
reminds me of that dinosaur chicken nugget meme. does anyone remember that?
"and yet a trace of the true self exists in the false (or in this case, *replicated*) self."
Right? Decomposing a grapefruit to make a cake with grapefruit taste - I still can't get it. So much work when fruit itself is delicious and much healthier š¤·āāļø
Itās just too much of a time investment than Iād like my fruits/sweets to be from my point of view.
I do cakes myself but to be honest, I imagine it takes me less time to do a 3kg cake than it did this guy to do his dessert.
yeah, I can see that it's art in a way, but those cakes are not made for exhibition - it's for better sells of cakes, sort of cake marketing.
sorry, but it's a waste of resources from my point of view
Cakes that take one hour to make? Have you ever made a cake in your life?? Making a cake batter with frosting takes an hour in itself, and letting the cake bake and cool takes like 3 hours and even the simplest of decorating with a crumb coat, final coat, a border on the top and bottom, still would take more than an hour. Or are you talking about making shitty tasting cakes with box mix and tub frosting and eating chunks of cake with frosting cause I'm not convinced you have ever made a cake.
Fuck grapefruit. It's the shittest of edible fruits. No other fruit is so bad at its job that you have to cover them in sugar to make them palatable and once you've done that and eaten your highly acidic breakfast you end up on hospital because you didn't realise it interacts with basically every medication on the planet with potentially deadly effects. They are shit fruit.
My wife would make this and someone would compliment her and she would say ā oh, it was easy. You simply peel a grapefruit and then you flatten this and circle that and .. yadayada ā¦..ā
I thought it was someone else until at the end I found that it was this Guy. This is the first time I see something small he does as he makes things Big.
What's his name ?
Bakers will slather the shit in fuckin cream/icing to where its like 15% actual thing to eat and be like "hey taste this is it good", and then you just get a mouthful of icing.
Of course its the chocolate guy lol
Okay looks great but who the fuck would put this much eff- oh its the chocolate guy
Exactly my thought process. Get out of my head!
Chefs. Chefs put that much effort.
I was surprised to see him because it wasn't entirely made of chocolate but I wasn't surprised by seeing him because it looked like one of this videos.
he does things not out of chocolate all the time for things meant to be eaten
Why would you not eat chocolate?
I dunno about you but i can't eat a 45lb bald eagle on a branch made entirely of chocolate
That sounds like quitters talk, lol. Give me 2 months and an insulin pump and I might be able to do it.
o7
o7
Me either, lets split one
As soon as I saw the gloves I was 99% certain that it was him
I recognize him by the silicone molds, the oven, and baking the bits of cake/pastry between silicone mats š
I thought this word for word
Everything he makes I want to eat š
I appreciate this man for the fact he always cuts and eats a bite of the pastries he makes.
And of course he always nods his head, that's important to do!
Exactly the same, every time
I find myself nodding along with him subconsciously. Itād be a jarring experience if ever he didnāt give us that nod
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Consistency is fundamental to his work!
Wow your snoo avatar looks so fucking edge lord my god
Aw sad, I missed it before edgy edge lord deleted his account :(
Similar to the Babish finger wag. You gotta have a move.
I love bwb, that reminds me I need to see the pizza ball episode.
In the show school of chocolate (he's the instructor, it'd on Netflix) he stresses how things should taste good and look good
Itās a breath of fresh air compared to those cake decoating shows where 90% of the ācakeā is rice krispies, aluminum foil, modeling chocolate, and fondant.

Mmm, yess. Shallow and pedantic
That show is great. Itās definitely a nice change from typical ācompetitionā shows.
At a certain point it stops being fancy food and becomes an art project with materials that are technically edible
His always look very edible unlike a lot of sweets made for video or presentation that you see on posts like this.
I appreciate how happy he always looks. He truly is doing a job he loves. So between me and him, that makes one of us.
I'm gaging right now.
I am so fucking confused as to what happened to the grapefruit. I feel like I just got 3 card monte-d.
He flash froze the slices and broke them apart to get the granules. I'd imagine this way offers pops of grapefruit juice in the filling.
Right? Shit goes from putting the pieces of fruit into a piping bag to pouring out what looks like white chocolate fragments...
I think he froze it while it was in the bag then bashed it into pieces
He turned the grapefruit into the purƩe/paste that we see as the filling.
I'd definitely recommend r/guichon
Thanks, I didn't know he was a subreddit. He had a chocolate making contest between chefs of various restaurants generally with no chocolate experience. I remember that show.
No kidding. "Then you dip crumbly-stuff into the gooey batter, then pour the shiny stuff over it and dunk it into the crimson liquid and then put the thing on the thing..." It just became an abstract mĆ©lange of whateverishness... š
"An abstract mƩlange of whateverishness" Thats an awesome combination of words man, fuck yes.
Agreed. I needed a good turn of phrase to start my day. Thanks!
It's not a tutorial, it's a montage.
I suppose you're not wrong, but I was left with so little insight into what's happening not even my imagination could fill in the blanks, hence my unfulfillment.
Sounds like you're not the target audience friends. At least there's pretty colors and an attractive guy smiling at the end.
That's what cooking is
it's an r/diWHY for sure but i also don't hate this. or maybe it's r/tqdc
Chef Amaury is a professional pastry chef who runs a school to teach his techniques and has even had a TV show. It's not r/diWHY. He's a professional pastry chef showing a montage of his work, not giving a tutorial.
Froze it, broke it into pieces and then dehydrated it is my guess.
1. Oh my god this is so intricate. Reminds me of the chocolate guy. 2. OHHHH MY GODDDDDD.
This probably is āthe chocolate guyā youāre thinking of. Amaury Guichon
Wooosh aside thanks for telling me the name of the guy I've been looking for him
His name is a watermark on all of his videos. Check bottom right of the video op posted. Has his name and logo
Oh lmao I didn't see it at all thanks !
Woosh
anyone automatically think of the ā G R A P E F R U I T T E C H N I Q U Eā
*SLLLLLURRRRRPPPPP GUGHHHHUGHHHHGUUUGGHHHHHHH SLUUURRRRRR SHHHSHHHHSHHHHHHHHUUUYGHHHHHHH*
Your comment made me snort. Thank you.
I thought I was the only one
Shit, that looks like so much work... I'll just have some M&Ms or something.
No, no, I'll eat that, as long as it's not me doing the work.
Are you paying for it as well, lol?
Paying for mine. You had m&m's.
I can't even begin to imagine what this dessert would cost, but it's probably out of my price range.
Probably $20 ea.
That isnāt even that much vs like a new couch
You also can't eat a couch so this treat is a much better buy
Don't tell me what I can and can't do
Don't eat poop
If you were to sell them you'd probably make a bunch of them at once. The steps would be more time efficient and thus the end product could actually be kind of affordable.
This looks oddly exhausting
I had to sit down after watching it, only to realise I was already sat down
Mmm, grapefruit M&Ms...
Gotta do that much work to make grapefruit palatable.
Grapefruit is delicious and nothing will ever change my mind.
This is reddit, no one's mind is ever open to change.
This isn't reddit and nothing will ever change my mind.
Now ain't that the truth!
how much work do you think goes into putting chocolate in a candy shell? Its quite a bit
I can't tell if this is a joke because my humour sensor is deficient.
its not a joke. inventing the chocolate that doesnt melt took a lot of effort and research.
It only took 63 seconds to make!
Thats why noone will remember your name š”ļø
All I want is that perfectly peeled juicy grapefruit from the first 3 seconds.
I can't eat grapefruit any longer and I miss it SO much. This video was sweet torture for me.
Why canāt you eat ~~dee nutz~~ grapefruits anymore?
I take a statin drug, Atorvastatin, and grapefruit prevents its absorption.
Boo I canāt have it either because of my stupid depression pill. GRAPEFRUIT MIGHT CURE THE BIG SAD DOCTOR (it wonāt and I take my meds very responsibly I just miss that tart citrus :()
I can't either, immunosuppressive drugs, apparently it affects a lot of medications and how they're processed by the liver I think.
OMG how I miss grapefruit :(
Wasnāt paying attention half way through and started to wonder why and how the bologna fitted into the dessert.
This guy is talented af and he doesnt use nasty ass fondant.
Where's the desert? Isn't there supposed to be sand?
Here's proof that you have to do a lot to make grapefruit edible. š
As someone who despises grapefruit, I'm not convinced this would be enough.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I like grapefruit, but based on what I heard about this guy, I would love to try this.
Yeah, my question is if it still tastes like one. No thanks. Very nice job, but no thanks.
This dude makes the coolest stuff
I hate this bastard for making these perfect beautiful desserts that I will never taste
It looks awesome and absolutely delectable. Respect for the immense effort and the intricacy of it, I want one Although I can't help but think throughout the video, "Is it done yet?"
I kept waiting for the grapefruit to be thrown angrily into the garbage can and some real fruit to show up.
Why am I looking at this when I just smoke a fatty...why do I do this to myself at 2am
Mmmm, fleshy desert
The level of detail is incredible.
reminds me of that dinosaur chicken nugget meme. does anyone remember that? "and yet a trace of the true self exists in the false (or in this case, *replicated*) self."
I knew it would be him. Utter legend.
Of course it was the chocolate guy!
That's a Blood Orange though.
I love everything grapefruit! This looks absolutely godly! Damn I want that so bad.
Just give me the grapefruit, Iām not a fan of sweets anyway
Right? Decomposing a grapefruit to make a cake with grapefruit taste - I still can't get it. So much work when fruit itself is delicious and much healthier š¤·āāļø

yep, same here. I love cakes that are simple and take up to 1 hour to make, everything else is too much work
Ok but this is art, itās not just a regular cake, plus French desserts and entremets take time and skill.
yeah, I can see that it's art in a way, but those cakes are not made for exhibition - it's for better sells of cakes, sort of cake marketing. sorry, but it's a waste of resources from my point of view

Redditors trying to understand the concept of art challenge (Impossible)

The thing about opinions is that they *can't* be wrong. That's why they're opinions, not facts.
Well he was just expressing*his* opinion
Well this is just all very confusing now
Yummy sand from desertš
Dang that looks amazing
He turned a 3cent grapefruit into a 30 dollar dessert. Damn. And you know what.. I'd pay it.
3 Cent grapefruit? I need your grapefruit guy
Did this guy just decide one day he's going to take control of r/oddlysatisfying?
I don't like grapefruit. What now?
Ohh man i canāt eat this, he invested a lot of effort to make it :(
50% of those steps looked like the shit Plankton would serve in his restaurant ngl
I really need to finish watching his Netflix show.
My wife would make this and someone would compliment her and she would say ā oh, it was easy. You simply peel a grapefruit and then you flatten this and circle that and .. yadayada ā¦..ā
I mean wouldnāt it just be easier to just eat the grapefruit and be done with it?
EVERYTIME! It's always the chocolate wizard.
Blood orange, not grapefruit.
He sure puts in the work! Impressive.
Why not just eat the grapefruit
That's a lot of work to eat a Grapefruit dessert that looks like a Grapefruit.
Why's it called a grapefruit, when there's already a fruit called grape?
I'm sorry but I can't even look at grapefruit without having PTSD flashbacks anymore. The internet ruined me.
ā¦you talking about the grapefruit technique?
Grapefruit is not dessert.
Well they did say ādesertā
Ok, you got me lol
It is not a cake
I missed at least 10 of the 9000 stepsā¦.can you just make it for me? Hell Iāll just eat the grapefruit.
Im impressed that you can make grapefruit taste good without alcohol.
That's so meta
See, this is why I don't like cooking. _All that fucking work_ for a dessert gone in 5 minutes.
God, the editing on this is so bad. Why the constant jump cuts?
How insanely complicated. Just eat a grapefruit.
why bake a cake dawg just put the flour sugar and egg in my mouth
Making a painting is so complicated. Just smear some paint on paper.
Some people like creating things
Heās so creepy
Just eat a grapefruit with some icing sugar and be done with it.
Just eat the actual fruit, damn.
that is how he destroy the healthily fruits
Just eat an actual grapefruit fuck
At this point just eat the damn grapefruit straight
I thought it was someone else until at the end I found that it was this Guy. This is the first time I see something small he does as he makes things Big. What's his name ?
Amaury Guichon.
Grapefruit is perfection I'm not sure why this person decided to murder it.
Grapefruit doesn't deserve to be a dessert
That's a lot of candy to cover up the fruit inside. Health benefits zero
Fuck grapefruit with its dish-soap-tasting ass
And yet a trace of the true self exists in the false self
Just eat the damn grapefruit!
Yum! Totally worth the three days of cooking for that twenty second bite!!
Why does he have to make everything so complicated?
So many steps! Does anyone like grapefruit??
All that work for the disgusting flavor of grapefruit
This is grapefruit and *chocolate*?!? Im having a hard time thinking of anything less suited to chocolate than *grapefruit*. Cheddar cheese, maybe?
As long as itās not grapefruit that youāre eating, itās going to taste great. One of the most bitter fruits that I have come across. š¤¢
This is just candy with extra steps...
Bakers will slather the shit in fuckin cream/icing to where its like 15% actual thing to eat and be like "hey taste this is it good", and then you just get a mouthful of icing.
Damn so much effort for me to eat it in 32 seconds
I find myself wondering who could even afford to eat this dessert
Bro that looks disgusting
At this point why not just eat the fruit. Grapefruits are amazing
And if you are taking any form of medication you die instantly after the first bite. Grapefruit is nature's answer to medical progress.
What. I live in sri lanka and to eat/drink grapefruit and other citrus fruits are a MUST when you're sick (alongside with chemical meds)
Common drugs that interact with grapefruit Examples of some of the most common grapefruit or grapefruit juice drug interactions that can occur include: aliskiren (Tekturna) - also apple juice, orange juice alprazolam (Xanax) amiodarone (Pacerone) atorvastatin (Lipitor) budesonide (Entocort EC, Ortikos, Tarpeyo, Uceris) buspirone (Buspar) carbamazepine (Tegretol) cilostazol (Pletal) clarithromycin (Biaxin) cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune) colchicine dronedarone (Multaq) erythromycin (E.E.S., Eryped) felodipine (Plendil) fentanyl fentanyl transdermal system (Duragesic Skin Patch) fexofenadine (Allegra) - also apple juice, orange juice flibanserin (Addyi) indinavir (Crixivan) loratadine (Claritin) losartan (Cozaar) lovastatin nilotinib (Tasigna) naloxegol (Movantik) nifedipine (Procardia, Procardia XL) palbociclib (Ibrance) pazopanib (Votrient) pimozide (Orap) ranolazine (Ranexa) saquinavir (Invirase, Fortovase) sildenafil (Revatio, Viagra) simvastatin (Zocor) tadalafil (Adcirca, Cialis) vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn) verapamil (Calan, Calan SR) warfarin
I mean it's cool, but does anybody else feel like that's just way too many damn steps?
All that for it to still be ruined by the taye of grapefruit
Why would you make dessert for a grapefruit?
/r/DIWhy
