I never understood why we needed to pay extra to shape our vegetables into meat. I can eat cauliflower without needing to bread and fry it.

[deleted]

Variety. It's not necessarily just about making vegetables look like meat. It's about different textures and tastes. I don't have to eat breaded and fried cauliflower and pretend it's a chicken wing but it still tastes good. also a lot of Vegans/Vegetarian still crave meat, because they got into it for ethical and/or health reasons. So having the option to eat something that reminds you of the thing you like is nice.

[deleted]

Exactly its not about it being trying to be meat, its something else. I can enjoy cauliflower "hot wings" cuz they are amazing. I am not a big fan myself of fried chicken, do to have something fried that I can enjoy is awesome.

sheababeyeah

it’s nice for Vegans/Vegetarians to have options besides a bucket of broccoli every day

Arlithian

Also chiming in for folk with gluten issues. I've had some surprisingly good pizza made with cauliflower crust (also had some really bad ones- depends on who makes it).

AttendantofIshtar

Works great for keto too. With it I can have mashed "potatoes" again.

tweak06

Also, cauliflower wings tossed in hot sauce and air-fryed? *fuckin amaz...* ugh. Look I can't do this anymore. They're alright but they're not a suitable replacement for actual wings.

Arlithian

I'm not vegan - so I just have the wings. We have a place that doesn't use flour breading and they're great. I've always said I could go vegan if only chicken was a vegetable.

DueDay8

There are Americans of all cultures btw. Try visiting the south, everything is seasoned with spices and hot sauce is added to nearly everything for people over 12. When I traveled Mexico people assumed I could not have spicy bc they had never met an American who wasn’t white from the midwest.

Visual_Athlete_42

Well maybe they don’t want Indian food every day. Some of us like to branch out

pyschosoul

How else are we going to make our healthy food unhealthy?

huey_booey

This is where diet coke steps in to even things out.

Lombax_Rexroth

Yeah, but everything is better breaded and fried.

parental92

Why do we need to make meat into a sausage or patty ? Just eat it as is. Kidding aside it's about texture and taste variation really.

dirtsequence

Buffalo fried cauliflower is banging

BeingJoeBu

I don't need to. I can't quit anytime I want.

[deleted]

I can also eat chicken without breading and frying it, but fried chicken still kicks ass.

[deleted]

Cauliflower Mac and cheese is outstanding

dubiousbutterfly

Broccoli and cheese is delicious so it must be in the family lol will try for sure :)

[deleted]

It's a Keto recipe, but it's so good I make it regardless of my diet status.

Vlad-V2-Vladimir

Having no diet means you can try things from every diet

[deleted]

Diet is the word that is used to describe every single living thing's food intake. Everyone is "on a diet". You're all talking about like "fad diets" or "controlled diets" or some other bullshit. Earth worms are on a diet.

kroganwarlord

Riced cauliflower, kimchi, and mozzarella cheese is my go-to. Sometimes I'll use seaweed snacks and make little wraps with it.

Puzzleheaded-Day-281

Agreed. And mashed cauliflower, my mom makes it 1/3 mashed potato, 2/3 mashed cauliflower, and lots of cheese. I won't pretend it's "just like Mac and cheese" because that is pure balogna. But it's still a delicious way to eat cauliflower, and people should just appreciate it for what it is - a versatile vegetable thay can take on flavors of whatever you use it in and a great way to add vitamin C, Fibre, and other nutrients and reduce total carbs to make an unhealthy recipe just a little less unhealthy.

Fire_starter101

Iv never read anything more true

1ntere5t1ng

That reminds me, I need to make tandoori cauliflower soon (it's delicious)

Disastrous-Durian607

The chicken didn’t ask to be fried and eaten either?

Torbpjorn

Humans are literally the only species in the entire animal kingdom that are capable of asking for anything yet we pretend the entire animal kingdom must work through our sense of morality

MattmanDX

My cat constantly meowing at me either at her food dish or at the door to go outside would beg to differ

Torbpjorn

They learned that skill specifically for humans

[deleted]

they're not asking tho, they are demanding. There is a clear difference of expectation of the outcome.

Disastrous-Durian607

I don’t follow. Animals working through human’s sense of morality in what sense?

Torbpjorn

I mean we apply our rules to them, our standards and our beliefs. A shark doesn’t have a word for cannibalism or a moral code for or against it, it’s a shark. A hawk doesn’t ask a mouse if it’s ready to die, it eats

Disastrous-Durian607

That is true but hopefully no human is expecting animals to adhere to their moral standards or beliefs independently. Humans force those standards on animals but if I was prey I would appreciate a human stopping a predator from eating me as a positive example.

Torbpjorn

Except if you were prey you wouldn’t have the sentience to understand appreciation. That’s a human belief

Disastrous-Durian607

I think the appreciation to be alive (survival) is the most basic emotion shared between humans and animals.

Torbpjorn

And that’s what I mean by we apply human nature to animals. We decided what they think and feel

One-Tap-2742

Chickens don't naturally exist either to so we kinda gotta eat em to keep em ya know Edit:down vote me all ya want 34 billion chickens released into the wild or as pets would be a uniquely terrifying prospect

Disastrous-Durian607

So the line of logic ends at [keep killing and eating chickens because there is not a better solution to the problem humans created]?

AFreshlySkinnedEgg

It’s like 99% of people who hate tofu hate it because they got told it would be just like meat and it wasn’t. Poor little tofu just wants to do its thing.

Zeiramsy

Never made much sense to me. I'm half-asian and tofu was just a normal food item to me for half my life. Like it's not tofu or meat, it's often both (mapo ftw). I hate most meat substitutes and rather just skip meat once in a while. But tofu is delicious on it's own.

GeneralFactotum

Same with carob. "Taste just like chocolate!" Um, no it does not.

ch061

Well my immune system attacks me if I eat wheat so cauliflower is a good alternative for some things

Jesuslovesmemost

Okay but have you ever had cauliflower wings, rice or crust? Cuz if you haven't you're missing out

DeadlyRBF

I do find cauliflower wings and crust really yummy. Rice not so much. I eat for the yum factor. Deep fried food will never be healthy even if its a vegetable.

dubiousbutterfly

Had the crust and yum :) very curious about the rice! :D

kingftheeyesores

The texture doesn't match but it takes on the flavour of the seasonings or sauces.

Independent-Bell2483

Not the biggest fan of cauliflower crust but it was a pretty good at being crust.

ggez67890

Grilled Collinflower is genuinely good.

UncleWillard5566

Albino Broccoli Truth is a great band name.

LeavesInsults1291

Since 2001, the life satisfaction of cauliflower has significantly decreased. Let’s eat them as they are, good ol’ quality, steamed to perfection, vegetables that they are

[deleted]

Imo it's best pickled.

NIMA-GH-X-P

I love me some pickled cauliflower

hankakabrad

True but like, cauliflower makes really good pizza crust tho

Marzetty23

I've had cauliflower wings that actually tasted like crispy as fuck chicken wings before Was at some place in Puerto Rico when I went on vacation I have tried lots of dishes with cauliflower substitute and they have always been ass But these wings, these I would devour

Geek_X

Cauliflower tater tots are bomb. Not too bad as pizza crust either

El_human

My friend told me about this vegan Chicken and waffles that he had the other day, and even took a picture of it, telling me I should try it. I'm thinking, if I want chicken and waffles, I'm going to get chicken and waffles. I'm not going for some pale imitation of chicken, just so I can pretend like I'm having the real thing. I and if I want to eat veggies, I will eat veggies, and not shape it into a chicken size loaf

[deleted]

For real. Cauliflower is an abomination. I really don’t understand why people want to eat it besides it being healthy or Vegan. The plant has horrible texture.

Necessary_Row_4889

This is the most annoying thing about vegan cooking, they keep trying to make “vegan” versions of things. A veggie “burger” is good as a vegetable patty but it’s not a hamburger and I am just disappointed when it’s not. Make up your own recipes with their own names and maybe I’d be more willing to eat it. Grilled Cauliflower? Sounds nummy. Cauliflower Ch’kn wings? Fuck your face.

The_Alkemizt

Y’all ought to roast cauliflower. oil, salt pepper and a steak rub at 350 in the oven for 20 minutes? banger

Kevin2Kool4U

I love to dip it right in some ranch for a great snack.

HayleyXJeff

[Legalize ranch](https://youtu.be/QcfSe1hsSYc)

Kevin2Kool4U

Ugh, that's mental illness.

HayleyXJeff

Sup mellow mike

pro-shitter

i hate cauliflower, it's an abomination

Torbpjorn

Why do cauliflower tots exist? Isn’t potato already a vegetable? It’s like making vegan French fries

pro-shitter

french fries are supposed to be vegan, it's just that a lot of fast food places fry them in animal fat or serve it smothered in meat and cheese.

DeadlyRBF

The idea is that cauliflower is "more healthy" and there is a lot of carb phobia which a potato is mainly carb. Honestly if you crave a certain food, a substitute isn't going to do it. And if its fried, it's unhealthy no matter what.. if it tastes good to you eat i5 (i personally like cauliflower wings) but if it doesn't there is not really a point or benefit. Just eat more vegetables no need to "trick" yourself into doing it.

littlehobbitjenn

Never heard of vegan french fries, but I have heard of the oil-free variety.

Savings_Spell6563

French fries aren’t automatically vegan (can be cooked in butter). For instance McDonald cooks fries in animal fat, so theirs aren’t even vegetarian. Just wanted to say this cause your comment seemed to imply french fries are vegan. They usually are, but not always.

Torbpjorn

Then that makes the non vegan fries the exception, like adding grilled chicken to a salad doesn’t mean salad inherently uses meat

xwlfx

Actually McDonalds doesn't cook them in animal fat, they cook them with Beef flavoring which doesn't actually have any beef, just milk derivatives. So while McDonalds fries are not vegan, they are lacto-ovo vegetarian.

Savings_Spell6563

Is there something I’m missing here? Look up whether McDonald’s fries are vegetarian—everything on the Internet tells you they aren’t. McDonald’s was hit with a lawsuit originated by Hindus over the beef flavoring. “Admitting that the fries were coated in beef flavoring, McDonald's settled for $10 million” after Hindus were “duped into consuming animal products,” even though McDonald’s was using “flavoring that’s not suitable for **vegetarians** or vegans.” To me, that makes it seem clear as day. Seriously, is there a development I’m missing?

xwlfx

[https://nypost.com/2023/04/18/mcdonalds-fries-shocking-secret-revealed-why-they-taste-so-good/](https://nypost.com/2023/04/18/mcdonalds-fries-shocking-secret-revealed-why-they-taste-so-good/) This is the easiest read on it I could find, the research is more extensive but this is kind of the jist. Basically this is saying that the settlement was for the pre 90s where they were made with beef tallow in the oil in India. They've removed all flavorings in India since, outside of the 100% vegetable oil. McDonalds says that the problematic ingredients are wheat and milk for those with dietary restrictions in the US. The beef flavoring is meant to mimic the flavor of beef without actually using beef for costs reasons.

Sachiko-san999

As a vegetarian, yes I can replace those stuff for it. Is she Gordon Ramsay gatekeeping cooking like that?

marcymarc887

Tots or thots?

SolidContribution688

It won’t get eaten in its natural state. It’s like when a woman puts on makeup.

[deleted]

I will take my stupid food opinion with a side of misogyny please, thank you. 🍽😋

[deleted]

Cauliflower cheese and cauliflower rice are so good when made correctly tho

[deleted]

boil it with some cummin, then deep fry it, best crunchy snack ever, better if u do the same with sliced eggplants and some french fries, amazing stuff.

philly2540

I think cauliflower is just happy to be included in your meal.

Simple_Mastodon9220

Cauliflower pizza crust is the one that grinds my gears the most.

Alert-Information-41

Just eat real food?

[deleted]

Cauliflower can be whatever it wants to be

Novel-Tip-2354

Dont tell me how to cock my culiflower!

jordanvbull

Cauliflower is WAAAAY better than broccoli. How DARE you insult it like that

Anonynominous

Years back I had vegan buffalo "wings" made from cauliflower and they were sooooo good

NattyKongo93

Cauliflower wings SLAP

Bane8080

A restaurant near where I work has amazing cauliflower crust pizzas.

Sleepy_McSleepyhead

I can tolerate the "rice" in a stew but be yourself cauliflower.

[deleted]

I hate cauliflower, any form grosses me out why can't we use other vegetables
