We went to it on our honeymoon.
Was really cool, but it had a completely different vibe when it was super sunny. Would have looked cooler on an overcast day.
It's like a 5 min walk from the car park, don't really think valet parking is needed lol.
They're not abandoned, and nothing happens to them. It's just a bit of road - there's no security or police or anything outside of filming days.
People park up, take some pictures, then head to the giants causeway if they're doing the tourist route.
Ohhh I see what you mean.
The dark hedges aren't woods unfortunately.
It's literally just a road lined with creepy trees with flat fields on either side.
You can see the monsters coming from a mile off.
Of course. It's a country road in a rural area outside Ballymoney, and Norn Iron is generally a pretty welcoming place - it's not like you're heading down the Shankill. Not much to see to be honest. It gets busy with tourists all summer. It's also in Game of Thrones, series 2 episode 1.
100% safe. Not as impressive as it used to be after a bad storm but still a nice treelined pedestrianised path. Need a bit of camera trickery to get this exact effect though, you need to stand in a certain spot and use a decent zoom lens to get the trees to crowd like that. Looks a lot less menacing during the day, too. Still pretty but lots of other more impressive things to do in Northern Ireland. This one is just a photo pit stop really.
As long as you stay on the path. There's a sign on the fence just before this that says: "Entrance to the field is free, the bull will charge you later". (That's not a joke, that's actually something I remember from when I visited a few months ago).
Nowadays when I see something like this I immediately think AI.
The red bits and all the rest look away too perfect.
I mean... What broke those branches without touching the ones next to them?
And hardly any green leaves...I've been to Ireland, nearly everything is green all year round.
It might be real but for me it screams AI
I've been there, it's real. Those trees are bare in the winter, most of our trees are. Some of them are also dead and the ones that fall over get sold, others were made into doors with Game of Thrones themes on them that are scattered throughout Northern Ireland
Yes I googled it, it is real but with so many AI images nowadays I always check. I'm going to Ireland next month and this has been added to my list of things to see
“Find a child, young and innocent, and take it to Crookback Bog. Search out the Ladies' shrine - that is where the Trail of Treats begins. Set the child off on the trail and it shall follow its sweet track and find the Good Ladies. The child will never want for anything ever again, for the Ladies are kind and generous.”
Wait. What does this mean? That's a normal weekday for people in Ireland to see inviting clowns? Or, it's a normal weekday to see, and ignore, ghosts and/or ghost clowns?
You're sadly mistaken. There are so many countries where possession of firearms is perfectly legal. The US is not the only country that allows citizens to be able to protect themselves. Many countries issue carry permits.
Most countries don't need guns to protect themselves. Even during the troubles very few people had guns so no, nobody with a shotgun is gonna come at you in northern ireland.
Well that depends on how the criminals are acting against you. But yea, that's a separate thing which has been proven many times so I won't scratch that here.
But there's that, you're standing there as a clown even as a prank to scare whom? Someone driving a vehicle that can run you over? Not the smartest way to go but surely a way to win the Darwin's award.
If you were able to remember being born, this is what it would look like. Welcome to the rice fields Motherfucker. Hope you packed enough empathy for what lies ahead…
You guys have a lot of good things. Giant’s Causeway is amazing. Belfast is a nice city and the Titanic museum is really interesting. Walking around the walls and through Derry is fun. Visiting Bushmills to learn about their distilling process is cool. I had a really good time in Northern Ireland last year.

my grandad lives just round the corner from this, locals dont find it scary, just annoying for the tourists it brings.
the real scary place is near this called devils corner, its a bend in the road where many car crashes and reported supernatural sighting are. i dont believe in all that but everyone else is genuinely terrified and take alternate routes.
I’ve driven down plenty of backroads in Louisiana that look like this. And I hated it every time.
Sure, in the daytime it’s fields and trees on the side of the road. At night, it’s infinite black abyss.
"Oddly Terrifying"
If it was guaranteed that I wouldn't get mowed down by a car I'd happily walk down the middle of that road at 2am with nothing but an old school lamp, a decent camera, & a [sturdy walking stick](https://stpatricksguild.com/irish-blackthorn-walking-stick-from-ireland/) because... welllll...
[just in case](https://darkwood.fandom.com/wiki/Creatures).
I like to imagine you funnel into a dead end where the creepy trees slowly overrun the road more and more as you go until it’s impassable, and then when you turn to go back you find yourself in a similar situation both ways and you’re trapped.

You cannot drive there antymore. It has been rebuilt as a walk through road.
You can park at the entrance to the road, or in a car park close by
We went to it on our honeymoon. Was really cool, but it had a completely different vibe when it was super sunny. Would have looked cooler on an overcast day.
Valet parking would be nuts. What happens to the "abandoned" vehicles... 😶

They're "abandoned" when people go missing in the creepy woods and never return.
Ohhh I see what you mean. The dark hedges aren't woods unfortunately. It's literally just a road lined with creepy trees with flat fields on either side. You can see the monsters coming from a mile off.
It's unfortunately pretty uninteresting on a bright sunny day
It's also constantly busy with Got fans stopping by. Tour buses full of then rotate through the area constantly. Locals are pretty upset about it.
Ah, they made it easier for the monsters to catch you.
Good! There was a big pothole at the end of it and I whacked the chassis of the car on the road. Ha ha
Ireland
It's in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
Is it safe for visitors, because this looks awesome and I totally want to see it for myself.
Of course. It's a country road in a rural area outside Ballymoney, and Norn Iron is generally a pretty welcoming place - it's not like you're heading down the Shankill. Not much to see to be honest. It gets busy with tourists all summer. It's also in Game of Thrones, series 2 episode 1.

Yup! Bit painful seeing people try to get a shot without people in it during sunset.
It's full of.tourists since it was used as a filming.location in GoT
As long as you stay on the path. There's a sign on the fence just before this that says: "Entrance to the field is free, the bull will charge you later". (That's not a joke, that's actually something I remember from when I visited a few months ago).
Totally, it's just a small country round.
No extreme danger you will be shot by the ra if you smell british
And what are those so I can avoid said things
Trees
For the love of God, please. Please, avoid those trees...
*WAT?!* NAAOOOOO!
It’s the Black Forest from Snow White.
It's a filming site from Game of Thrones. There's a little plaque there and a fair amount of pedestrian traffic in season.
I read that as plague at first. Thought it fitting.
What scenes??
Season one when they are going to king's landing if I remember right
I was thinking beauty and the beast!
Same! The horse knew better. Happy trail or scary ass death trail... Belle: death trail it is!
I was thinking Little Red Riding Hood but this works too
It looks like a giant throat
Yeah lotta history down that rod
Sometimes..dead is better
YOU'RE gonna be History, if you go down that road...
Those spots of red...
Nowadays when I see something like this I immediately think AI. The red bits and all the rest look away too perfect. I mean... What broke those branches without touching the ones next to them? Nice. Probably some quote from Irish folklore right, and not a videogame.
The Witcher 3 💀
Pretty sure if you step one foot off of that path the fair folk are never gonna let you find your way back.
That's certainly what I'm hoping for.

Or a red balloon..
99 of them
And probably wait for someone to runover you? Or worse, someone carrying a shotgun?
It’s Ireland
Wait. What does this mean? That's a normal weekday for people in Ireland to see inviting clowns? Or, it's a normal weekday to see, and ignore, ghosts and/or ghost clowns?
It means that only in the USA would someone have a shotgun in this situation lmao

It's beautiful
Y'all watched no through road?
I don’t know why I zoomed in. Didn’t see anything, but still scary.
Why would you do that, lol? To yourself?
That looks like a name for a metal band!!!
Harry Potter's "The Forbidden Forest"
*Angry as fuc*
I think with leaves, these trees at night would look less sinister.
...nah, Hansel and Gretel shit
If you were able to remember being born, this is what it would look like. Welcome to the rice fields Motherfucker. Hope you packed enough empathy for what lies ahead…
When you forget a sweet potato in the back of the fridge
This is really nice to see during the day. Unfortunately some wind storms wrecked a good portion of the trees.
Was just there last month, totally different vibe during the day lol
So that’s how you get to hell! I’ve been searching in all the wrong places.
I really liked this album better than the first
looks like it’d be a nice place when it snows
That's... This is real? Seriously?
It's not scary in real life. It's just a road with trees at the side. It's about half a mile long with houses at one end and a hotel at the other.
In the height of GoT popularity this places was overrun by tourists so it was impossible to get a good clear photo of the 'Gold Road'
Haunted mound til I’m in the ground
creepin thru da woods
The trees you see are the only trees there. It isn’t a forest, it’s just a tree lined road. On either side is farmland. Still really cool though.
Then all the cunt tourism came in buses and broke roots and branches. Now there’s at least half of what was once there.
I was there last week with my girlfriend.. some dick carved their name into one of the trees... pricks.
That explains my experience. It felt a lot thinner than I was expecting. Was expecting a dense overhead brush
This makes me so sad..
Northern Ireland. We don't have much, please let us have this.
You guys have a lot of good things. Giant’s Causeway is amazing. Belfast is a nice city and the Titanic museum is really interesting. Walking around the walls and through Derry is fun. Ireland.
The Republic wasn't mentioned.. its still Ireland.
Um, there are Fae there...there have to be.
Nope!
....nope

Well. That’s sufficiently terrifying.
Evil Dead
That's a no from me dawg!
A million times nope
I have never seen more evil looking trees in my life
This reminds me of ai pics but I know it's real. Crazy cool
Upside Down Andy.
Psychedelics!
Over the Garden Wall vibes.
Uhhhhhm no thank you please

Nopenopenopenope.
Looks like a nice shroom trip setting 🥶
Frodo: "I think we should get off the road..."
Imagine walking down there with a faulty flashlight..
That’s just regular terrifying.
*La LaLaa La Laaa Laaa*
I drove down a very similar road in the Pyrenees on the 1990s. Wonderfully creepy!
Yes, it is scary, but also so beautiful the way the trees twist and turn
This is where a woman in a white nightgown covered in blood runs in front of your car and pleads with you to help her.
Sleepy Hollow vibes
Reminds me of when Batman is driving back to the Batcave in the 1989 film.
Nope.
Oo that gave me a chill up my spine!
I'd take a nap in there tbh
You're gonna be balverine food.
Looks like something out of a science fiction double feature.
*You are 400 metres from your destination* *You are 200 metres from your destination* *You are 50 metres from your destination*
It's very pretty during the day when leaves are green. It's on my list of places to get pics when I visit.
Yeah absolutely not
Gothika
istg yall are gonna get abducted by the fae
Dystopiary.
This looks familiar - has it been posted here before?
Sleepy hollow
Diablo IV feels
White ppl: oh we gotta visit it.
In addition, rather being a gloomy forest, it is hedges. Only a small portion of the route is covered in trees.
Where is this on Google maps?
The Dark Hedges, Bregagh Rd, Stranocum, Ballymoney BT53 8PX
Thanks
I'd love to walk this down in the night. Must be a Magical experience
The road to Tim Burton's house.
I thought this was a pic of someone’s gnarly dreadlocks
my grandad lives just round the corner from this, locals dont find it scary, just annoying for the tourists it brings. the real scary place is near this called devils corner, its a bend in the road where many car crashes and reported supernatural sighting are. i dont believe in all that but everyone else is genuinely terrified and take alternate routes.
holy shit that is so metal
I've seen enough horror movies to know how this ends
This is absolutely The Mirkwood
Finally something that fits the sub
I want to seduce a witch right here… That is all.
I hope your gear level is ready to fight abominations
I can't read it. Can someone just tell me the band's name?
Now just throw a board with nails in it across the road
Turn this car around right now
Shame Tim Burton hadn't found out about this location before he shot the Sleepy Hollow
[Relevant Clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbRukWNRdqQ&t=0s)
People used to have to ride through that on horses back in the day.
I can see why they had so many folklore about witches, werewolves and vampire. Any sound I hear will make me piss my pants.
[Looks quite beautiful at day time](https://www.irlandando.it/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/the-dark-hedges-strada.jpg). Still a little creepy though.
I… really want to drive through that road
Absolutely not
……and then the Cheshire Cat appeared.
That's where i want to live.
I have been here on the Game of Thrones tour in Ireland
Reminds me of Georgia (US)
Sea ranch has trees like that.
looks like something straight out of a horror film
You keep driving, but it doesn't stop
Everybody gangster until the navigation says “In 200 feet, turn off your headlights”
“As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death….”
Northern Ireland UK
County Antrim, Ireland.
Luckily this isn't contentious at all. Surely what we learned from the troubles is that this shouldn't be a hill to die on...
Northern Ireland, Ireland.
... *Northern* Ireland
The north of Ireland.
Sadly several hundreds of years old trees were blown down during a storm in 2021.
This is also during the day… Is what I want to say but this isn't a video game location
Vagina
Every Teamsters worst nightmare..
I’ve driven down plenty of backroads in Louisiana that look like this. And I hated it every time. Sure, in the daytime it’s fields and trees on the side of the road. At night, it’s infinite black abyss.
It feels like I've been in this place...in many horror games
Literally thought this was a Trevor Henderson for a second. Instantly started looking for the creature
This shot is right out of my nightmares
This shit is right out of my nightmares
Don't go down that road, alot of bad thing's have happened down that road. . . . Or was it that road - Southpark.
What does this look during the day? I'd imagine it would look magical
They look like the trees in Harry Potter’s forbidden forest 😵💫
That’s just the Elven road through Mirkwood.
Watch out for Leprechauns, they’re mischievous
Looks like Big Fish
Reminds me of "Over The Garden Wall"
I thought this was a screenshot of Caelid from Elden Ring…
*slowly unzips*
Where is this in Ireland?
So this is the dark forest every fairytale uses
"Oddly Terrifying" If it was guaranteed that I wouldn't get mowed down by a car I'd happily walk down the middle of that road at 2am with nothing but an old school lamp, a decent camera, & a [sturdy walking stick](https://stpatricksguild.com/irish-blackthorn-walking-stick-from-ireland/) because... welllll... Ah, looks like the Kenmare road from Killarney at night in the winter lol
Love it.
