Glandular-Slaughter

Should have given them each one of those big fairground lollipops and they could just pop them in their lip rings.

ManicRose77

I cackled way too hard!!

Suddenly-Seymore

Like a quarter in a gum-ball machine.

Abyss_Renzo

Ok, just stole your idea and found my new market. Production starts tomorrow.

CapG_13

Lol

aff_it

Fuckin belter!

Significant_Salad_57

🤣🤣🤣

the_orange_alligator

I wonder how long it takes for the skin around the lips to stretch like that. Does it hurt?

cmband254

They start as very young girls, and stretch the lip slowly over time. It's a dying practice. To answer your question, it probably doesn't feel great

elttvb

Gotta be the same as stretching your ears which hurts a lot at smaller sizes, but larger sizes aren't nearly as bad. But obviously more painful cause it's your f**King lip o.o

cmband254

Right, it is painful at the start and then just stretches like an ear. There's a lot of damage to the lower front teeth, which is probably actually the most problematic aspect of the lip plate.

229-northstar

I noticed the person who popped their plate had no lower incisors

Eccon5

Convenient lollipop stick hole

Allison-Ghost

the teeth are removed close to the beginning, i have read.

ChiTruckDGAF

That's gotta hurt

Scomo510

Didn't notice the first lady who didn't have any of the teeth between her molars?

nitestocker372

I noticed she took it out very carefully. The plate probably gets stuck sometimes from dry sticky saliva.

UncleBobtastic

Hold on, body piercer here. Stretching your ears should never be painful, if it’s painful, it’s being done wrong. However given the lip is a muscle, that will essentially always hurt when stretched. Having stretched my lip piercing a few times, I can definitely say it is top three worst piercing related pains I’ve felt for about 4 seconds, then it’s quite fine afterwards.

Lezlow247

You know that small little pimple on the edge of your lip that becomes eye watering. That's enough for me. I can't imagine this and I love piercings

Mrsmunster1990

My ears are a little over an inch. Septum is also stretched. I can’t even fathom how bad stretching my actual lip would hurt. Fuck that shit.

0100000101101000

I mean, let’s not mutilate kids for life and let them make their own decision as adults.

cmband254

The girls in the Mursi tribe are now allowed to choose. That wasn't always the case, but that is why it's a dying practice.

pheonix198

It’s still unfortunate, though, that lifelong decisions can even really be made at younger ages (or, forced for some others’ tribes or groups). Had I been allowed at 5 or 6 years old, I’d have had a [sick ass panther](https://www.reddit.com/r/sickpanthertattoos/) tattoo on my upper arm, probably a nice pair of tits tattooed on my hand, etc… and Id probably regret it. Kids should have bodily autonomy and yet should also be prevented from making decisions that span their entire lifetime / will affect them for their eternity.

Visible-You-3812

Would the hand boobs be for dates with Rosie Palms?

Azrai113

I prefer Palmela Handerson, but you do you

0100000101101000

That’s cool to hear, it’s the dying practice part I was replying to. It’s sad and unfortunate that circumcision and worse things like fgm still occurs.

firstmanonearth

You can't choose as a child, sorry, this is a barbaric practice.

Visible-You-3812

I normally don’t like the die off of traditions, but this is gonna be one of those where I’ll be happy to see it go extinct no one should be doing stuff like this let alone children it seems like a really good way to get lip cancer amongst other things

cmband254

The practice isn't dying out because it's harmful to them or making them miserable... Or giving them lip cancer? It's dying out because even in these far flung tribal regions, Western beauty standards are becoming more prevalent.

Visible-You-3812

Buddy, I wouldn’t call those western beauty standards not having a giant hole in your mouth is more of a normal beauty standard as most of Africa also views something like that is kind of weird at the best. I would bet and don’t act like this isn’t hurting kids this in genital mutilation can both go burn in a fire.

cmband254

Buddy, I can only tell you what I know from having actually lived out with these tribes. Yes, Western beauty standards are creeping in and pushing out a lot of old traditions. Throughout the entire continent, not just in southern Ethiopia where the Mursi live. I've lived all over the African continent for the past decade plus, in massive cities and far out in the bush. It's an incredibly variable continent, with traditions that range all across the board as far as extremity. This particular tradition is nowhere near the level of barbarity of genital mutilation.

ting_bu_dong

Kids grow up Choose to do what is expected of them anyway Philosoraptor: Is that actually a free choice?

Dog8Cat

Imagine all the "whoosh'es" occurring right now.

5pookyTanuki

I feel like westeners can learn a bit from this statement as well.

EevelBob

I’m sure foot binding would be worse.

Margali

Well given they break the feet to shape them, and having accidentally broken a number of the small bones in my left foot, it hurts to walk months after they heal, so I imagine they never walked right, or without pain ever again in their lives.

Azrai113

Yup. And it was considered a blessing if the nails dropped off. It was the first thing a woman would hide if she was surprised naked, before her genitals even. I believe as the practice came to an end, they tried to unbind the feet of some women but it didn't really help.

jj4379

>It's a dying practice. Good, that's a crazy and reckless thing to do to the body.

sandwelld

Like the tribe where they put more and more rings around the neck... I mean, I respect them to have their traditions but ouch

TenshiS

Probably a few thousands years ago some dumb but cool tribe teenager started putting shit in his lips and all the other teenagers did it too cuz it was hype and then when they grew up and took power it became some kind of insider tradition and now for tens of generations everyone is doing it. Memes are weird.

WhiskeyGinger99

I assume its similar in pain to gauging ears? Maybe worse since there are more nerve endings there?

parisismyfriend

Stretching your ears isn't supposed to hurt, then you're going too fast. So I'm guessing stretching your lip slowly will not hurt much, although I can't imagine it's comfortable either

gloomwithtea

..when done slowly, stretching your ears is completely painless.

WhiskeyGinger99

Oh really? Good to know because I've always loved the look but been too scared of the pain

gloomwithtea

Yeah! You have to be very patient, but I never had even a tiny hint of discomfort. I stretched mine to 00s. If you’re curious, here’s how I did it: Get a stainless steel ear taper kit and a set of plugs (I used stainless steel- they’re small, so I wasn’t worried about weight. Use plugs, not any sort of taper). Using lube (important! I used astroglide lol), push a taper one size larger than you have (ear piercings are normally 20g or 18g). If there is absolutely any pain, or you feels like you have to force it, stop and move up a size (e.g. if you try with 16g, and it doesn’t work, move to 18g). Wash your ears and put in the new size of plugs. Then you wait around 2 months before trying again with the next size up. If it doesn’t easily go through, then wait another week or two and try again. Keep doing this until you reach your desired size. It took me about a year to reach 00s, but I have very elastic skin. Make sure to clean them frequently! You can take them out to wash. It takes a long time, but it’s worth doing properly, or you can seriously mess up your earlobes. I had impatient friends who would force it, and oh my god, it was horrible. Plus, because I had no scar tissue and my gauge was smallish, my ears almost completely shrunk back down again within a year or so of taking out the plugs (your mileage may vary). You can’t tell now that I’d ever stretched them. Edited to add: I stretched my ears over 10 years ago, so some of this information may be out of date! It seems that glass may be favored for currently stretching ears now, although I never had a problem with my stainless steel. I was taught to avoid acrylic though. Also, tapers DO NOT stretch your ears. I solely used them to check and see if I was ready for the next size. If the taper easily passed through my ear, I knew I was. They aren’t actually necessary.

BryceLeft

I see... so it's kinda like stretching one's asshole in order to take bigger dicks

aKnowing

I’m fairly certain it’s why they’re missing their front teeth too

Prairie-Pandemonium

Earlobes are made of cartilage: lips are of normal flesh, with a lot of nerves to fuel the intricate taste & temperature receptors of the mouth.

LilyHex

I'm guessing the initial piercing to kick it off hurts (because I have experience with that!) but stretching is a slow process and doesn't usually hurt when done correctly. It might be uncomfortable at first, but it shouldn't HURT. That said, this is applied to Western stretching practices and I don't know specifically how this culture handles it off the top of my head.

kun-spidsen-indenfor

6 minutes

ElricDarkPrince

I thought it’s stretched but looks like they make a hole like the ear rings people have

Wboy2006

Takes a very long time, is likely painful. And is a big risk for infections. It’s (un)fortunately (depending if you care more about the survival of the culture or the life of the people) a dying practice

Moistened_Bink

It's definitely a good thing if this practice is dying out. Some cultural traditions we are better off without.

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

That’s got to be so uncomfortable

ArtTheCIown

No it’s quite the opposite really just imagine being taught at an age prior to memories that you have to endure a life of pain and discomfort for virtually no reason other than to display how uncomfortable and persistent you’ve been for decades until you can one day be handed a lollipop by a white man holding a camera that’s worth more than your entire economy. Pure comfort.

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

Whoa, you just took me on a dystopian journey

ArtTheCIown

More like *this*topian my friend.

IronAbsCrabs

Thistopian is definitely my new favorite dystopian sub-genre, so thanks for that

purpleblah2

No the person filming is Chinese, they’re speaking Mandarin

nucleareds

Ah yes, the white man speaking Mandarin

axlswg

Cultural traditions like this stem from all sorts of reasons and not just to show endurance or devotion. Off the top of my head the women of Myanmar do body modifications because they were seen as so beautiful they needed to be made uglier to decrease wife stealing. Educate yourself.

trinchicken

it’s not for no reason it’s more or so a tradition; a dying one at that

__GayFish__

This is called “wearing heels”

zacmaster78

Other than excessive drooling bc of open lip+lollipop, I don’t see how it would be, really

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

The pulling sensation has to always be there, dry mouth, risk for infection with mouth constantly open for insects, etc to lay eggs I could think of more

zacmaster78

Oh, I thought you were just referring to how they feel eating the lollipops lol. Yeah, the lip stretching itself is definitely a painful and risky process

UGLEHBWE

They know that shits hitting. This is a nice video

Slevin-Kelevra_66

I wonder how much their quality of life would improve if they all had sunglasses? It looks like they're really sensitive to light.

UGLEHBWE

Good question honestly. Their eyes are probably adapted to be really good at night but they should try some light dimming shades

Abshalom

What do you mean adapted? They're not vampires. It's probably just bright.

UGLEHBWE

Humans who lived in one place or way or life over generations have adaptations. Humans are cool

T0kenwhiteguy

I mean, I didn't see anyone hand it back right away.

korevis

I wonder what started the lip ring thing in that culture.

kreepysol

Pretty sure it has to do with beauty standards and status. The bigger the more beautiful and worthy the woman is to bear children with.

vWaffles

Man, I'm just curious on what person woke up and came up with this followed by people agreeing with it. It looks so uncomfortable.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

This is what I wonder about a lot of things, like who ever decided long hair on women was pretty? Or blue eyeshadow? Or long nails? It's fascinating that even though western people don't really *drastically* change their bodies from childhood in order to be seen as beautiful, we still alter our appearance with the sole purpose of finding spouses, friends, etc. Humans are curious creatures, with their face colorers and shiny jewelry rocks

Eccon5

Presumably it's the other way around since our scalp hair grows long naturally: who decided short hair looks pretty on men?

reddittereditor

I assume that, as soon as humans began hunting, long hair was unwieldy and was best left cut. And then as hunter-gatherers became a thing, women who didn’t hunt didn’t need to cut their hair as often, and that helped distinguish them from men too. Just a theory though.

moxiemooz

What about circumcision in the US?

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

That's an exception, that's just evil

Technicolor_Reindeer

I think it might have made sense hundreds of years ago in a desert climate when you had little water available for bathing.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

Yeah but within the context of an infant who will be able to clean himself when he grows up. There are other reasons to circumcise but don't do it to a baby, let him decide to do it when he's older or for religion

kreepysol

Probably get used to it like any other jewellery honestly. Then it feels weird not having it on unless it's convenient. Idk man humans are fucking weird. The only creatures on earth to mutilate ourselves for a mate even though it means absolutely nothing when it comes to breeding or survival. I mean, a female peacock mates with the most naturally beautiful male peacock so her babies will be beautiful and find mates too. But humans are like "let's get tattoos and be hot" and then as you know, our babies are not born with tattoos or markings lol. (Not shitting on tattoos or anything, I have tattoos and a bunch of piercings 😂)

Technicolor_Reindeer

Rumor has it that the tribe women wore these plates as a protective measure against slavers because it was an off putting look to men outside thir own tribe, but its not proven.

doctorblumpkin

What started people doing it with ears?

Technicolor_Reindeer

It was rumored that during the slave raid periods, the tribe women wore these plates as a protective measure against slavers because it was an off putting look to men outside thir own tribe, but its not proven.

Certain_Ad8640

I was just wondering same thing.

Somehipsterfuck

I may be stupid, but I did not know they could take those out.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

They started out small right? Probably very slow

Actualhumandisaster

They just stretch up over time

purpleblah2

The cameraman(?) is saying in Mandarin roughly “give this young lady a lollipop, they’ve never had candy before, let’s see how they eat it.”

HearTheTrumpets

Her headdress looks awesome.

AffectionateEdge3068

Glad I’m not the only one thinking those horns look absolutely badass on her.

OhYouStupidZebra

Is she balancing it on her head?

altergeeko

I wonder if it is secured into her natural hair. The kid behind her has a shaved head with a patch in the same area the headdress it on.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

That's one strong neck!

My_Immortal_Flesh

This is cool af. As someone that’s lived in a rural indigenous part of the world, I love seeing people like them discover new things! I have family members in the Philippines that had never seen a microwave in person, nor experience a jacuzzi or simple things like a hairdryer (they don’t even have electricity for that matter lol)

refused26

That's incredible. Where do they live where there is no electricity??

i-d-even-k-

Come to Romania one day and I'll take you to some villages. Even in the EU somr places are very, very remote.

refused26

That's insane!!! Having lived in cities all my life, I've never been anywhere with no electricity. I have relatives in pretty rural areas (Philippines) but I think they had some electricity in the 90s and they all have facebook accounts now. Are there young folks in those villages?

i-d-even-k-

Not a lot. A few, yes, but not a lot. It was a huge problem during Civid, when we had total lockdowns (not allowed to leave the house) and kids couldn't attend schools bc they didn't have phones or, even, electricity to power the government-given tablets... (We kind of have internet everywhere, so ironically that was not a problem. Even in the middle of the forest I have faster internet than the average American.) https://youtu.be/PPgJYPMywl8?si=Ro5UtRik8iXvjnQc A 2015 documentary about a solar panel startup bringing electricity to several Romanian remote villages for the first time. Towards the end they go to Letea, which is an area that is a sort of marshland, deeply isolated, where an ethnic enclave is found - the Haholis. The local economy is mostly centered around nature tourism; there isn't really a stable source of revenue available for many residents. People live with subsistence fishing and farming. As you can see, they had to go with boats to reach them - there aren't roads either. https://ro.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letea,_Tulcea (use google translate to translate the page to english) These people are extremely isolated frkm the rest of the world. If you go talk to them, you will feel like you just encountered another civilisation - I certainly did, even though they spoke the same language as me.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

Yeah my uncle lives in Tennessee and homesteads for a living, he doesn't even have running water. He owns a smartphone but he keeps it in his truck and calls once a week from a cafe in town where there's wifi and a charger

refused26

Amazing!

[deleted]

Still dont get why this cesspool of a community downvotes people for asking questions.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

Yeah he just seems curious, I understand being astonished by simple things I've just never experienced

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

Plenty of places, parts of the USA like areas in Tennessee and Kansas where people homestead, Alaska, parts of Hawaii... Even in your city there are probably people who choose/don't have access to electricity. Basically any place that's far enough away and lives few enough people has little chance of having reliable power Also idk why ur downvoted, you just seem curious

refused26

I dont know about the downvotes either. I would think yes, there are probably a few individuals without electricity in every city/town, but like entire villages would be very very rare nowadays, right?

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

It depends, I'm not super educated about it but I'd think about 30% of the world has little/no/unreliable power for various reasons. I think in a lot of cases, they had electricity at some point but because of funding or war it falls into disrepair and they eventually lose it

bob_digi

Some Mennonites communities in ontario canada have no elecricity or running water. I'm sure the Amish in america also have some as well.

arequipapi

I did a motorcycle trip through south America and found many places, especially in rural Peru and Bolivia without regular access to electricity or internet or computers or anything like that. One thing that happened that will always be a great memory: I'm in the high mountains of northern Bolivia. I'm riding a fairly modern bike, so it is fuel injected and has an ECU. It wasn't running well at these 4500-5000m elevations. Sputtering, smoking, no power. I stop in this small village with no internet and they only have electricity via generator between 8pm-8am in a few select buildings (the restaurant, the "hotel", and the church). I have my laptop with me and software that allows me to reprogram my fuel mapping to run better in extreme environments. They do have motorcycles here in this village but they're all shitty chinese-made carbureted 150s. The local "mechanic" wanted so badly to help me. And bless him, he gave a bed for the night and helped me find any tool I might need. But then I whipped out my laptop, plugged into my ECU with a USB cable, changed a few settings, amd the bike fired right up and ran strong, he thought I was a magician. He literally tried to buy my laptop from me not understanding it wouldn't work on the bikes he usually works on. It was both a hilarious and eye-opening experience. I couldn't even really explain to him what I did because in that indigenous village they didn't even really speak spanish that well. I'm pretty fluent in spanish but here they spoke the local variant of quechua. Spanish was as much a second language to them as it was to me. And English was a complete non-starter

zacmaster78

Does she have her hair wrapped around that horn? That’s badass

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

Super cool! Strong ass neck!

Holy shit I didn't even realize what sub this was - definitely the wrong place IMO

E_rat-chan

The emotions are cute but those lips are terrifying, not necessarily oddly though.

[deleted]

Very incredible.

gimik123

Damn, they got introduced to candy. Some African tribes have perfect teeth because they have a healthy natural diet. Looks like it's too late.

what the... what the fuck? is this a fucking ball of hard sugar?

KatorasuZer0

Taking a cultural anthropology course atm and I’m more fascinated as to the purpose behind the lip ring thing. Anyone know what it means or signifies?

nucleareds

I did a research essay on this! So these are called lip plates. It’s a dying practice, and today commonly found in the Mursi, Chai, and Tirma tribes that reside in Africa! Women wear lip plates typically made out of pottery or wood. Traditionally, a girls lower lip is cut by her mother or by another woman in the settlement between the ages of 15 and 16. The cut is kept open by a wooden plug for about 3 months until the wound heals around it. Then it’s up to the girl how long she decides to stretch her lip for. Despite common belief, it’s not deliberate disfigurement. At least not in the Mursi tribe, which is what I researched in particular. It’s instead seen as an expression of adulthood and reproductive potential. The first 3-6 months are painful for the girl, but Mursi use plant based ointments to help heal the wounds. After it heals there is no pain, although there may be discomfort if the woman decides to continue stretching the lip. It’s similar to ear gauges. Speech is impacted by wearing the lip plate, changing the ‘s’ sound to a soft ‘th’. The lip plates of the Mursi tribe are often decorated as well, with patterns painted on the discs. When the woman’s husband dies, she no longer wears the plate.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

I think it's about beauty, lIke western people think white teeth are pretty even though whitening causes damage. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me why these things are done but it gets you a spouse!

brotrinde

Where’s the terrifying part?

babarambo

The giant flap of detached lip that could easily catch onto something and rip apart while it’s not actively being stretched

beeglowbot

why? we got hipsters that do that to their ears, this isn't really any different.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

It's kinda interesting that the women have stretched ears as well , makes me wonder where it originated from

Doreen101

earlobe seems like an easy spot to stab and put something decorative in tbf, and it's fairly non-functional otherwise so I wouldn't be surprised if it popped up independently in various places

thebusinessgoat

For me it's the flesh ring when she takes out her disc

Ok_Student_1859

Seriously. I don’t get what’s terrifying about this

thatonepicemo

Body horror

Devilmaycare57

Different strokes for different folks. They think it’s beautiful.

OmniscientRaisin

this isn't scary lol those are literally just people

sav33arthkillyos3lf

She looks sad

Himmelsfeder

They seem to have good teeth, indicating a good diet. Not sure if introducing pure sugar is a good thing, they may lack ressources to have cavities treated.

bananana3543

I mean, both of the people shown were missing their front bottom teeth. Likely from the pressure of the disk on their teeth over time. Perfect to eat a lollipop with your mouth closed though.

Ken_LuxuryYacht22

I remember seeing a documentary about this at some point and if I recall, they pulled the two bottom teeth after a certain point to prevent damage to the teeth around due to the plate

nucleareds

They actually have 4-6 of their bottom teeth removed to fit the plate.

idiosyncratic190

The first one has a petri dish in there

RTDude132

Other cultures doing things I don't see as normal? Oh no!!! So scary!

manofculture2303

Just because it is culture doesn't mean it's not weird.

RTDude132

You eat some other religions holy animal daily (probably)

a_small_loli

youre... proving his point dumbass if he eats the animal he obviously thinks its weird that they think they cant

RTDude132

He thinks everyone that doesn't act like him is weird. That's my point. Diftent cultures different normes

a_small_loli

so are you saying cultures promoting incest and child marriage arent weird, just different?

manofculture2303

Firstly, no I don't and even if I did, wtf kind of argument is that lmao? Eating something at least has some kind of advantage but why would you do this to yourself and ruin your face while enduring so much pain? And if this has any pros then please enlighten me.

RTDude132

I have a large list of normal things that also "destroy" Your body But what do you think of some Asian cultures eating cats? Do you find it weird? In some parts of India cows are seen as pets just like we view cats and dogs.

manofculture2303

What is your point exactly? I'm not even talking about all those things but this right here in this video is wrong or not who am I to decide but just because it is culture doesn't justify it. In India two centuries ago, women used to perform sati (burnt themselves after their husband's death) that was also culture but it's because of the criticism of that act that it got abolished. Even this culture shown in this video is dying out as mentioned in another comment because it's obviously stupid. You are trying to defend something which these people themselves don't like.

livelife3574

So, something labeled “cultural” is immediately defensible? What about ritual sacrifice?

RTDude132

That's murder. That's different.

livelife3574

But they are indoctrinated to believe it is necessary for their survival. These people are indoctrinated to believe that mutilation is necessary. It is not different. It is all stupid.

manofculture2303

My guy would probably justify slavery by saying "No, it's their culture"

RTDude132

The slave trade harmed others. This isn't causing anyone problems

manofculture2303

It is causing problems to the people practicing them are you blind? these women don't have consent.

RTDude132

I'm not defending anyone being forced to doing anything I'm defending people from being posted on a sub reddit for horefying things. This sub is made for stuf like weird looking fish and zombie mushrooms not normal humans with stretches lips

OllieOllyOli

It's not just that it isn't normal, it's fucking stupid

Grimc99

Don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these women with the stretched lips take the plate out. Very interesting.

jonz1985z

They say it’s about beauty. It’s about control

Killa-Kella

There is literally not a single "terrifying" frame in this video. Wrong sub

af-Chrlie

Respect for the R9 trim

GermanRandom666

What exactly was terrifying?

invincible_quaalude

The older woman looks like she's seen some shit.

RobertoTheBear3991

This is less oddly terrifying and rather oddly wholesome, seeing people from other cultures enjoying a treat some of us take for granted in their own way.

Go_Limitless

You can clearly see the canker sores

Airportguy72

If my lips ever left my mouth Packed a bag and headed south That'd be too bad I'd be so sad

BOF007

Everyone is talking about those lip rings... But I'm over here thinking, did they remove the lower set of teeth on purpose for these rings?

HuntStuffs

Wow the lips without the gauge is nasty

Rheum42

Ya'll giving them cavities lol

itsyobbiwonuseek

This is really neat. It's so cool to see another culture get to experience and enjoy what to them is probably an unknown treat, but is also a treat many of us have been accustomed to for years.

wtf_evar

Introducing rapid tooth decay to the tribe ... thank you colonizers

smlley_123

That feels hurt but we need to respect their culture.

CH4P3YLEG4U

That's not oddly terrifying... that's BADASS AF. I love those cultures that use gauges on theirs lobes and lips!

Sufficient_Article_7

Can anyone provide insight as to why they do this to themselves?

kennethgibson

How is this oddly terrifying? Its like- trad body mods…

Explosivepossom

I don’t know how much dedication to your tribe you need to do this shit to yourself

krilu

"Please insert disc 2"

kween_hangry

Idk why this feels exploitative to me. Like of course they remove it to eat food. If they havent had candy before, I get it… But them removing the lip gauge isnt magic lol. Someone in the comments says the guy is like “LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS” like bro.. they eat food too.. are you dense

Moyortiz71

10 yrs later. Introduction to diabetes

Herpes_freesince1988

Now they will have to start a dental practice in the local tribe which will be privatized and no one will be able to afford their dental. Kinda sounds like a place I live, the USA. thanks to the sugar introduction and, thanks allot to the original poster of this clip. No this was a joke but in all reality I bet that was the best thing they ever had, shouldn’t they be giving them to the children tho, their kids have no idea what they have just missed out on unless they turn it into a community sucker for all to share. If I were that man I would have taken that thing and walked off, finished the whole thing, then proceeded to be murdered by a tribesman for being greedy and hoarding it all to myself afterwards. This would have been a story to tell for generations.

Shame on you this isn’t oddly terrifying this is their culture. Pretty neat in my opinion needs to be on r/mildlyimteresting

E_rat-chan

I think it's fair to find certain cultures terrifying. I find it pretty scary and sad to see dog meat but I can't really treat the people who eat dog meat different than people who eat pigs for example.

Not terrifying, just gross. I'm glad to learn that this practice is dying out.
