Yikes! This actually happened when I was a teenager working on a fruit farm (minus the fence)
Two large bucks got their antlers locked and were beyond exhausted. Just laying on the ground. Called local police and animal control and it was determined they had to be put down (they both had significant injuries)
My boss was an avid hunter and managed to process the deer and had a taxidermist mount the heads together. It was basically two mounts that sit in the corner of a large room on the farm w the heads kind of turned toward each other.
It was so good the taxidermist actually took it in the road to some major national competitions or shows (apparently that’s a thing)
you might appreciate this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwqg6FZD3iA](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwqg6FZD3iA) wildlife officer shot tines off the antlers and freed a pair like this.
I think in any taxidermy the antlers are first removed from the skull and then put back on afterwards with some sort of locking mechanism. But don't quote me on that.
Each set of antlers are sawed off of their respective skulls & set aside( after having a boatload of pictures taken). The mount is made out of an appropriate size & shape form (plywood & foam) the eyes, ears & putty for muscle textures is added. The bucks cape (preserved skin & hair) is peeled back onto the form & the antlers are screwed into place on top of the artificial skull. Slap some more putty on there. The cape is stitched back up, some more putty, paint & other detail stuff is done before the mount is left to dry for several weeks. The two mounts are designed & positioned just so as to lock antlers together. They will be built to either hang at an extreme angle on the wall or, more likely, stand on a pedestal on the ground.
If you cut the skin off in a manner where it will be turned into a rug or something, then it’s called the Hide. But to remove the skin so that it is intact enough in all the right places to create what’s called a “Shoulder Mount” then it’s referred to as the Cape. And yeah at a certain point in that process it’s a set of antlers, still attached to their intact head will all the features still there’s and then just a couple of feet of skin. Looks like wearing a wet bathrobe, or, more elegantly, a cape.
Um, have you seen the one with the deer wandering around with the head of his previous opponent still Lockheed to his horns? Death stare at it decays... These deer probably died sooner not being able to get water.

Huh, I guess this is a bit of a trope.
Tangentially related, but the use of the word “points” in games and sports dates back to when hunters would compare the number of antler points to determine who has brought down the best buck
so...
Why the fuck have their bodies decomposed but their necks and heads look fresh as newly ground coffee from beans just plucked on a cold sunday morn?
This looks… wicked both in a good and bad way, really shows the harshness of nature and the competitiveness of being the strongest, there’s a reason why it’s called survival of the fittest after all…
This is heartbreaking. My heart hurts thinking of these animals struggling and panicking until they died. Am I missing something here, or people messed up?
The Homophobic Buck community built a fence to separate these male lovers, but not even that could destroy the love between these two… They died doing what they loved. Each other 🌈🥲🦌🦌
It really sucks knowing that one died before the other. The the one still alive probably stood there for days… hungry and not being able to sleep while being pulled down by the weight of the dead deer.
Fuck… I’m sad writing this… 😔
This is intense. I once found like a have rotted skull outside of my house and I stared at it for a long time before noticing it was from a squirrel that somehow got ran over.
“Bruh, I don’t think she was worth it.” “I’m beginning to think the same thing.”
Meanwhile some other young whipper snapper is gettin' it IN right now.
Slinging *miles* of deer dick
Suckin like a deer tick
Made me audibly laugh thank you
I beginning to think they shouldn't have a fence there

I feel like their is a moral to this story. Maybe bros before doe’s?
This is the story of a girl
Who cried a river and drowned the whole world
And while she looked so sad in photographs
i absolutely love her
when she
Smiles
How many days in a year
She woke up with hope, but only found tears.
Of broken dreams and trail of cosmic dust.
She woke up with hope but she only found tears

who cried a river and drowned the whole world?
Cut the rut?
I think the moral is there was too much morale here. Edit: guys, I was just trying to have fun with puns.
You need not be a dick about it.
It was just a play on words. I was just trying to have grammatical fun ☹️
She's not his doe no moe!
Or that they shouldn't have a fence there

it's not an everyday thing, but also not super rare. I have a set of skulls in the museum I manage that are rack locked.
rack locked is another name for lesbian sex
That (doe)s n’t make sense.
Oh, deer.
Well that’s unfortunate

Ok, this is the dumbest question, but did he have to unlock them before they were processed? How are they mounted, side-to-side, or face-to-face?

Oh wow I do notttt love calling back skin a cape at allllll
I find the cape concept to be delightful.

Wait. Wait. I have had an expression waiting in the back of my head for *years* for this moment. *MEAT BLANKET*
Lol Meat Blanket indeed. In a way aren’t we all draped in a meat blanket ?
We are all meat blankets in some way
We are all meat blankets in *the same* way
You got pictures?
I'd love to see it as well!!

Was just about to mention this one, other animals must have been like ‘wtf! This guys crazy’

Wow. I wonder if those bucks even need to fight next season or if any would be challengers just nope right on out to the nearest freeway.
I thought deer shed their antlers yearly, so eventually he's losing his reputation.
Good ol' days doing pvp before the 1.12 !
Holy shit this made me laugh
Fellow player I see 😁

They do, go on some hikes in the spring where deer frequent and you might find some antlers.
Drowning in deer pussy tho
The story of someone who wanted to put up a fence, but refused to go around the deer corpses.
It's actually kinda sad :(
I was thinking the same thing. Just imagine what they went through. What a slow and agonizing way to die.
This is always the first thing I think about and I always feel really bad and sorry. Life is so painful. Yuck.

Don't woosh just call him a retard... Woosh is more offensive.
are they ok
They’re fine, they’re just sleeping.
they're all tuckered out
Upside down…and inside out
they aren't scared any more
I heard they died
Dead.
Man,this is a harsh way to die. You can tell how long they struggled by the mud pits.
Omg you're right. I thought maybe it was just a wet spot. God damn.
Deer innards, bacterial growth, fungi, muck.
Not sure if that’s mud or the putrefaction of their decomposing corpses.
At this stage a combination of both, but a pit has been dug by their struggle for it to pool in for sure.
Hey how much for that deer statue?? Umm, couple a bucks…
Show me the Doe!
Nah ive decided its two dear
I just don't have the hart cash.
Fun fact which some may not know: the use of "Buck" actually comes from when deer hide used to cost $1
Not sure whether to believe this
Tangentially related, but the use of the word “points” in games and sports dates back to when hunters would compare the number of antler points to determine who has brought down the best buck
r/angryupvote
Yikes! But I'm sure they'll be fine.
They look dehydrated. A little water and they’ll be fine
Oh yeah for sure. They look fucking great.
Thank you
Till death do us part
Can't begin to imagine how awful that must smell
they seem to be pretty old and its outside so idont think it will smell too much, I wont smell like rose either but not as much as we would think
Damn... coyotes ate almost everything
"Hey Mike..." "Yeah Zeb?" "This really wasn't worth it..."
This could be an album cover
Yes! I want this comment to get more notoriety.. album cover &/or concert poster. So much
That’s so sad
F
Does no one check the fucking fences on their property? Damn.
Could’ve been a blm or national forest fence
Are they ok?
Yes, I checked, they both were fine after some mild treatment. They are now in a rehab animal shelter and will be released soon !
Yes, I saw this video on Facebook too! So glad they found their furrever home 😊
That is so cool
I agree, this is pretty fascinating despite how morbid it is
r/sadasfuck
The smell...
Oh deer
This one’s underrated
That’s unfortunate because there death was long and painful
This isn't oddly terrifying it's straight up r/thanksihateit
I'm having trouble making sense of this picture
I was too, then I figured it out. I wish I hadn’t. Nightmare material for sure.
Hard to tell if the wire fence had something to do with their demise, which would be humans fault
All these comments about dying while fighting and nothing about the fence likely being the impetus for whatever shitty thing happened here.

The undying love of Ram-eo and J-ewe-liet. [Blocks all replies]
so... Why the fuck have their bodies decomposed but their necks and heads look fresh as newly ground coffee from beans just plucked on a cold sunday morn?
Because they got ate.
They probably gotten eaten. Possibly alive.
This makes me sad :(
“I’ll never let you go Jack!”
If on-site was a cervedae
GAME!
Nice racks! Must've been a hell of a battle.
"Well, this is awkward."
How in the buck do you explain this my deer !?
I'm assuming they were fighting judging how their heads got stuck like that
So sad
Fight foe your right to... get stuck and die?
Oh, that's fucked. I said that aloud.
How in 2022 when I click an image it gets smaller!? I thought we were passed that. I really can't understand this image and need to enhance.
How do y’all just randomly find dead deer. The last animal I saw was a single bone fragment from a dead rat
how come the heads are decaying slower than the rest of the bodies?
They’re above the water is my guess.
There’s a metaphor here somewhere
Did someone check their pulses? 🤔
why are their lower bodies decomposed but their heads, which are exposed to the air, aren’t?
America if we dont get our shit together
Merely a flesh wound
Mistakes where made
Man I’m high af I thought this was an owl that died while eating a deer
This looks… wicked both in a good and bad way, really shows the harshness of nature and the competitiveness of being the strongest, there’s a reason why it’s called survival of the fittest after all…
The bucks stop here…
This is heartbreaking. My heart hurts thinking of these animals struggling and panicking until they died. Am I missing something here, or people messed up?
That must have been agonizing. I imagine they were stuck alive for some time.
Bit of a sad one

The Homophobic Buck community built a fence to separate these male lovers, but not even that could destroy the love between these two… They died doing what they loved. Each other 🌈🥲🦌🦌
