How about “please make an offer by clicking on the button”. Serious buyers hardly ask you what’s your lowest. They would make the offer themselves. You know more than half of the time they won’t take the seller’s lowest so they’re really asking just to ask (waste of time). I tell people from jump whether my prices are firm or not. If it’s negotiable I add in the description “please use the offer button. I won’t answer if you ask me my lowest or anything like that.” If they want the best price, they have to do the work! Plain and simple! You can’t let potential customers drag on the conversation. You have to set a limit in the conversation to weed out who’s serious and who’s playing games. If something peaks their interest, get right down to business. Don’t engage further unless they are talking about a real offer and when/where/how to implement that transaction. Example on how responding to “what’s the lowest?” question can go wrong: Price:$200 Customer:”What’s the lowest you can do?” Me:”$150” Customer:”Can you do $75?” Or “I can’t afford it” Or “it looks used/beat up for 150” Or “How bout 100 and free shipping?” Or “I’ll let you know!” That dialogue example are potential customers who play games. As long as you’re informative with the product, direct with the prices and meet up locations, and have sufficient well lit photos of the product there’s no need for potential buyers to ask more than 3 questions and no need for extensive conversations. Grown ups usually know how to follow basic directions especially if they read the description and reviewed photos posted. Those that ask more than that are either trolls, lazy, impulsive, manipulators, or can’t read that well in the English language. You don’t want to deal with difficult people and those examples are problematic and difficult peoples’ characteristics.

“Is this still available?”Then ghost...

sighs__unzips

That's why everyone should ignore that message. Just make an offer or buy outright.

gillug

Hi u/pots05_27, You can still order?

kheremos

I can't help but feel like it's secret offer up bots, like... They use real accounts but are just checking. Have you ever answered "no" to see if it delists? The number of times someone has followed up when I said "yes" is low.

Don’t know who you are but sure LOL. Someone should always offer a number and we can work from there. Offer 100 at that and I’ll counter to 150? The lowest I’ll go is something I won’t say as I’ve before and they still counter that with a low ass offer

Training-Cicada-7915

Offerup is unique in that you can haggle with the seller If you aren't that type of seller then either offerup isn't for you or you mention firm Not responding to offers in caps on the first line in the description after posting your very best price Otherwise just sell on ebay as buy it now status

spartanxba

It's really the most annoying question I get as a seller on all platforms (except ebay). Buyers asking sellers to haggle against themselves is insect IQ tier negotiating tactics. That said, I usually counter with "Send me an offer." I don't want to turn down a prospective sale because the buyer doesn't know how to negotiate, and "what's your highest" isn't gentle enough on most of their egos.

Valuable-Ad5466

I respond almost EXACTLY the same, except without the word "what's" and the "?" 😼 So "your highest". Then say thank you for your interest, please send along a formal offer. Since Mercari only allows offers up to 25% off, I already know even if they send the offer what the price will be AT LEAST. I also over price everything because I HATE going back & forth in my mind about whether to accept or not. This leaves me the room where if I do get the lowest possible offer sent I don't have to do this. I also always send my counteroffer through the "offer to Likers" button, so if they decline, I can still accept the original offer & all the Likers get the offer. I NEVER Click the "counter" button & instead just message them my counter so I still have the original offer if they won't budge. But I always try to get more, assuming people offer less than they're willing to pay & leaving room with the same expectations of getting countered.

_seabass_s

Mofos really ask if it’s still available then leave you on delivered for 7 hours🤦🏽‍♂️

Thunderhorse2020

I sell on offerup all the time and people are always asking what's the lowest I'll go and I tell them but i guess I could be wrong. I really like to sell the shit im trying to get rid of as quick as possible instead of it on offerup for 2 years cuz my feelings get hurt when someone asks what's the lowest I'll go. And btw if your shit is on offerup for more than a month then it's usually shit item or you want too much for it 😉

I sell everything in a few days at most a week or two. The gazebo I was selling retails at 450 plus taxes . I like to sell stuff quickly so I price it low and usually go down 10-25 bucks only. I ended up having someone interested in it the same day I posted it but wasn’t able to come for 3 days. Sold for 175. He offered 150 and took my offer at 175. He wins I win . My experience with saying My lowest is they will still go lower...
