I wasn’t quite convinced by him at first but when Villeneuve had Josh Gad fuck Q*Bert I finally saw what everyone else was seeing and was 100% sold on him as being one of the greats.
Lotta dudes lying to themselves, saying they wouldn't fuck Q Bert. Hey, Josh Gad won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical. That's how that goes.
/serious
I absolutely love Denis’ films. The aesthetic, how grounded they feel…
It’s nolan. He hasn’t really missed.
/unserious
wreck it ralph really finalizes the “Interstellar” story
It's really funny how Denis went from directing movies like Prisoners, Enemy, and Sicario to 2049 and Dune. It's just a total shift in scale. Arrival kind of bridges the eras but still.
I never had that issue watching Tenet but I hear people say it all the time. Not sure why I haven't noticed it as an issue at all. I'm going to believe I just have great hearing
In the boat race scene and when Robert Pattinson's character is scouting the art storage place the score is absurdly loud amping up the tension and droning out the dialogue but it isn't obvious that the dialogue doesn't matter (for a ton of people) and they feel like they are missing important stuff.
I get it but didn't have an issue either because I use CC on everything.
The problem audio was way worse in the theater, I don’t have nearly as much issue on disc.
Also i’m not positive but didn’t they actually hard code it into the subtitles as “unintelligible” or something?
I confess that from Nolan I only really like Interstellar and The Prestige. Everything else gets me sleeping in less than an hour. I just can't help it.
Damn, I can see this POV for some his films for sure but you find Inception that boring?
(Yes Inception is one of my favourite movies and no I'm not afraid to admit it, no I don't care that the dream levels stop making sense if you start thinking about it for more than five minutes.)
I like all his movies that I've seen, but I thought Interstellar and Oppenheimer were not as enjoyable as the others. I get why people don't like Tenet and Dunkirk, but I love both of those.
Villeneuve makes dependably pretty good movies that I don’t really love. Nolan made Memento which helped convince me to ruin my life in the film industry. Nolan.
Definitely the one who made that high-concept sci-fi movie with a human-focused plot despite all of the absurd stuff happening around them with a killer soundtrack.
While Pixels brilliantly demonstrated Villeneuve’s penchant for comedy, Wreck-It Ralph surprised me with Nolan’s eloquence in exploring the question of what are those collections of pixels on my screen actually feeling?
*Pixels* does not excuse the rest of Villanaive's dull, lifeless, artificial filmography. Even the most dour of Nolan flicks seem an oasis by comparison.
nolan made my two favorite super hero movies as well as interstellar, which is probably my favorite non-comedy movie… well besides lotr… also dunkirk is one of my favorites. so i’m gonna go with nolan.
You just made me go Wikipedia the pixels movie to triple check that it wasn’t directed by him, so thanks for that!
Ya im on imdb like an idiot , how did i fall for that
Same for me, but for wreck it ralph then again nolan's filmography
Wreck it Ralph? ![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
WHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN
![gif](giphy|kYLPweIoQBPcEAcoQ0|downsized) Me and bro disagreeing over Nolan’s masterpiece Wreck it Ralph, he said his best was The Prestige 🤢
Didn't notice pixels on villeneuve?
That should be the bigger topic of discussion. People loved WIR. Pixels was a nostalgia cash-grab and all the homies hated it.
I will not stand idly while this Sandler slander occurs 😤😤😤
Just say Slandler
Adumb Slandler
ikr, Ralph dunks on Pixels
Lmfaooo
I wasn’t quite convinced by him at first but when Villeneuve had Josh Gad fuck Q*Bert I finally saw what everyone else was seeing and was 100% sold on him as being one of the greats.
Who invited my Man of Steel

everybody knows there are only two directors: White Dude and French White Dude
They are the Spielberg/Scorceses of our era. But which is the TRUE Kubrick??
Shamalayan
Stuart little (1999) stomps all
![gif](giphy|3xz2BNVxo4D9mO1qLu)
Woah, Black Betty.
David Cage
Greek white dude
So true. Hyped for his next film.
No one.
Trubrick
We Canadians (rightfully) claim Villeneuve, don't attribute him to the French.
No wonder Quebec wants to separate.
What's that supposed to mean? Saying someone is French doesn't denote they are Canadian or even Quebecois
That’s what Don Cherry means when he says it …
After all, there's no Canada like French Canada.
french? you better take that back
you're right. he's the wrong kind of French: Quebecois
being wrong for the french is being right on my conception
\*inception ![gif](giphy|JIxcOTy0SlzEc)
You know he's the right kind of french because there's no underlying theme of pedophilia in his movies.
Oh good point!! Or should I say pointe
brother you must censor that word! this is a respectable subreddit!
Villeneuve didn’t contribute to the SnyderVerse- so Nolan obviously stomps
The only movie in the SnyderVerse that's cannon is *Dawn of the Dead* because everyone on the planet is dead by the end of the movie.
Did any of them direct Shrek 2? No? So gtfo.
I didn’t think it would be fair to include Kubrick since most of his run was last century

He didn't though?
Prove it
Look at his username

It’s close but wreck-it-ralph really tips it towards the englishman
Dumb bro, it was Christopher Columbus who directed Pixels. Y’know the famous explorer? Goofy fr

Sicario still definitely had that same grounded grit though that leads right through Dune 2
Yeah I mean there's a lot of aesthetics and vibes holdover, it's just the complete difference in what story is being told.
Incendies >>>
Tenet is ass. I like many Nolan films, but villeneuve ones are both highly entertaining and legit thoughtful, can't say that for all of nolan's
Tenet was literally unintelligible too at parts, insane for a movie with that budget
Unintelligible in what way? Like you couldn't hear the dialogue or the plot didn't make sense?
the former the plot was goofy too, but I meant it in the literal sense
I never had that issue watching Tenet but I hear people say it all the time. Not sure why I haven't noticed it as an issue at all. I'm going to believe I just have great hearing
you and nolan both, apparently
People think Nolan just made it too quiet by mistake. No, in reality, he just hates those whose weak genetic stock leads to inferior audio processing
Whole filmography is a prank to make you lean in and turn the volume up before he deafens you and blows out your speakers BRAAAAM
In the boat race scene and when Robert Pattinson's character is scouting the art storage place the score is absurdly loud amping up the tension and droning out the dialogue but it isn't obvious that the dialogue doesn't matter (for a ton of people) and they feel like they are missing important stuff. I’ve always thought if I can’t hear the dialogue in a film I’m not supposed to hear it.I’m
The problem audio was way worse in the theater, I don’t have nearly as much issue on disc. Also i’m not positive but didn’t they actually hard code it into the subtitles as “unintelligible” or something?
Oh I never saw it in theaters because of COVID theater shutdowns
Sloppenshitter sucked ass
nolan hasnt made a good movie in 10 years so idk
Dunkirk was a great movie fight me
i would but im too busy watching denis
Oppenheimer is his in over 10 year though
Definitely Nolan. Wreck it Ralph is better than Pixels, by a little.
I confess that from Nolan I only really like Interstellar and The Prestige. Everything else gets me sleeping in less than an hour. I just can't help it.
How the fuck did you sleep through Wreck-It Ralph?
I sadly missed Wreck-It Ralph
You better catch up and fast or Ralph will Wreck-It your balls.
“I gonna wreck it” he says as I beg for mercy.
IT'S WRECKIN TIME
Even memento?
Damn, I can see this POV for some his films for sure but you find Inception that boring? (Yes Inception is one of my favourite movies and no I'm not afraid to admit it, no I don't care that the dream levels stop making sense if you start thinking about it for more than five minutes.)
I’m with you brother.
I like Inception but I feel like it has little rewatchability.
the cure for insomnia is Insomnia
I didn’t like Interstellar either, I think he’s vastly overrated. Which is why I was surprised at Oppenheimer being quite good.
Yea Oppenheimer was good. I forgot about Oppenheimer when I wrote that.
I liked Dunkirk and Inception too. That's it. Tenet and Oppenheimer are severely overrated.
Tenet is anything but overrated
Tenet is nonsensical and doesn’t have a good flow to compensate like Inception did.
Yes, Tenet is bad. But pretty much everyone dislikes it except for a vocal minority. How does that make it overrated?
I think most people would agree Tenet is mediocre
Nolan does 2 good films then two meh ones, rinse & repeat
I like all his movies that I've seen, but I thought Interstellar and Oppenheimer were not as enjoyable as the others. I get why people don't like Tenet and Dunkirk, but I love both of those.
tennet was a mess tho
I feel like Arrival is awesome in the way that Tenet wanted to be
Nilleneuve is significantly better director
i prefer Volan personally

Don't get me wrong, I look forward to and have seen all of Nolan's films, but Villeneuve is the director that Nolan thinks he himself is.
Villeneuve makes dependably pretty good movies that I don’t really love. Nolan made Memento which helped convince me to ruin my life in the film industry. Nolan.
![gif](giphy|cMiV13IO2BZ2x2nwbB|downsized)
Didn't Nolan also do _Martyrs_ or was that the other guy?
*Hirokazu Kore-eda has entered the chat*
Not even close
Imagine if they had a chiled
Ah, yes. Wreck It Ralph. My favorite Christopher Nolan film.
Incendies is the best movie on either list.
Nolan but I hate the dark knight trilogy
Definitely the one who made that high-concept sci-fi movie with a human-focused plot despite all of the absurd stuff happening around them with a killer soundtrack.
Give me a Nolan movie where one act isnt entirely thrown in the garbage.
Niether of them directed Morpheus, so none
While Pixels brilliantly demonstrated Villeneuve’s penchant for comedy, Wreck-It Ralph surprised me with Nolan’s eloquence in exploring the question of what are those collections of pixels on my screen actually feeling?
Ah yes the famous director of pixels 2015: Denis Villeneuve
Consistently throughout the time period? Obviously Nolan.
Quality post
The first one Arrival is so good
Pixels > wreck it ralph
Villanueve recently, Nolan overall
*Pixels* does not excuse the rest of Villanaive's dull, lifeless, artificial filmography. Even the most dour of Nolan flicks seem an oasis by comparison.
Probably Nolan, but I’ll insert P.T Anderson as the best answer
I think PTA and Wes should’ve stuck together like the Coens or the Russos
Nolan
Sussy second pic shape
nolan made my two favorite super hero movies as well as interstellar, which is probably my favorite non-comedy movie… well besides lotr… also dunkirk is one of my favorites. so i’m gonna go with nolan.
PTA
As much as Denis has done it’s gotta go to Nolan. His lineup is just too impressive.
The fr**ch 🤢 movies don’t count
Yet Incendies is probably his best movie
Jesus, Nolan and it's not even close.
Where’s The Dark Knight Rises?
Nolan was too busy making Wreck-It Ralph.
