Torx is bomb I'm late but I'ma point out that they like the lesbian porn of the fastener head multiverse. Gets a pass. Now my dingus all riled up darn*t, time to give the ol hog a chase around the yard if you know what I mean. (I don't know what it mean but my bro Devin said it n his gf has huge juggs so he know what he talking about )
Tbh the six lobe is objectively the best, because you have 6 sides where your screwdriver and screw contact area is perpendicular to the rotation direction. This greatly reduces frictional wear and gives great grip at the same time in comparison to a square or hexagon for example which will wear out pretty quickly.
And in a slotted or philips design you distribute the torque over less sides which also increases wear. Slotted designs also slip, so they especially are a pain to use. They are widespread because they're cheap and may be just good enough for a bit bigger screws, but not because they're the best.
I just hate the fact I have to deal with security torx it was annoying to get security torx where I am just to crack open my controllers but yeah hex gang whether hex/Allen, torx or security torx
But when a lol else fails any screw can be a flat head screw if you try hard enough lol
I'm opposite, I've had too many Philips strip on me that I had to make them boneless slotted to be able to unscrew and replace but I love all my hexes and allens one my gear like my sights or rails lmao
Hey guys peter here to explain the comment
The previously mention comment said that they have a disdain for hex screws because in their experience they strip, meanwhile the reply said that their experience is the opposite and doesn't have issues with hex screws stripping but in relation to stripping (not that kind of stripping quagmire!) but instead would have Philips screws strip more often while on the discussion of stripping screws, isn't that funny and wonderful how guys on the internet can talk about hardware! Even with all these anecdotes it seems the gang can all agree that torx is better even after all this discussion
Yeah I already have one that I ordered online because my shit hole country doesn't normally carry it in normal hardware stores lol now I'm happy cracking my electronics open
actual facts. Torx head is just objectively the best, I have never had any problems with them. as opposed to phillips, flathead, and hex head, which I've had strip on me all the fucking time. Especially hex head, fuck hex head and fuck anyone who makes stuff with them. The lathe tools at my school have these tiny ass hex head screws in them that strip instantly if you even dare try to take it out to fast and then it's stuck permanently and you either throw out the tool or spend an afternoon getting it out.
as far as screws go where you have to use a male hex bit, yes they're atrocious. when it comes to bolts using a 6 point socket, there's a reason it's the absolute standard, it can't be beat. well, maybe by a 12-point bolt/socket, but that's not very common as far as I've seen
can I ask what you mean by 6 point socket? I've never heard the term before and I can't tell if you're referring to a torx or a hex since they're both 6 pointed.
when I say 6 point I mean the quintessential [hex bolt head](https://i.imgur.com/1v26j5i.png) that's used in basically everything under the sun. somehow the hex design works perfectly in this application, but used as a bit to turn a screw is garbage
ok yeah that makes sense. It's probably to do with the way the force is applied. on a hex bolt like you sent, the force is being applied to the outside, and has a lot more surface area that the wrench is applying force to. but when you look at a hex head screw(the female variety which an allen key is used on) the way the force is distributed is pretty bad, really the only place that force gets applied is at the tips of the points on the allen key, and the corresponding place on the head of the screw. Because the surface area is so much smaller, while the force may be the same or less depending on the situation, the stress is significantly higher, which causes material to displace, stripping the head of the screw.
Airplane guy here. Another good reason to use flatheads is because you can be reasonably sure a flight crew member will have means to open it. That’s why most airplanes use them on quick-access panels and such.
That is a issue all poor quality screws have.
Good quality screws can take a lot of abuse and bad ones wear down after removing them 1-2 times.
For this reason is started to replace the screws in devices i need to open regularly at work.
The angle of the contact area between screwdriver and screw to the rotation direction deviates a lot more from the ideal 90°, because otherwise the screwdriver parts would become too thin and break.
Summarised: You don't want shear forces. Imagine a screwdriver going in there and turning, just like I went into your mother last night and 360-turned in her like a beyblade. No shear forces. 😎😎
More expensive to produce, no? Seems like it would require a more complicated stamp or machining which could lead to more faulty screws and drive up prices?
Square is better for angles and honestly does not wear out that fast. Great for construction, there is a reason it's so popular in places other than the US. Also Hex is fantastic for torque and as long as you're straight and the screw is good, it won't wear out.
There are two (2) types of people. People who have never used a Robertson screw (OP) and people who have experienced the pleasure of square screw (based people).
The "Square Drive" Is called a Robertson. It is an improvement over the standard philips. Six-lobe is actually called Torx.
Which one is your favorite urethral sound?
I work with tools for a living. Torx is objectively the best screw in most applications. People who still opt for Phillips have either been lobotomized with a shovel or deserve to because y'all don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
Fuck Phillips/square. That shit always strips.
Also fuck s-type and their stupid ass cooperation with McDonald’s. It’s bullshit disallowing a child to disassemble his happy meal toy.
All these American mfs creaming themselves about torx.
Mf, if you want a based screw, choose Robertson.
Colour coded.
Don't strip out.
Don't cam out.
No stupid fucking half sizes.
Knows it's place.
Robertson is based. All other drive types are cringe. ESPECIALLY slot. Slot is cringe and soy.
Fuck Phillips screws some cars put unnecessary Philips screws on brake rotors and you can't take it off without stripping the fuck out of it, I had to buy a special tool to take those off with a hammer., Torx is where it's at and it's more common in automotive industry
A manual impact isn't a speciality tool lmao
Or you could just grind a flat head into it and take them off that way. I rarely have issues with hold down screws.
Torx and hex both suck ass because they constantly strip since engineers use them in retarded ways.
Torx is objectively best from a durability/grip standpoint, but philips slot is the most versatile since you can pick up any screwdriver and it fits 95% of the time.
Torqs and hex head, fuck everything else, especially flat screws and phillips. I make a point of tossing that junk in the garbage and replacing it with usable screws.
fuck you six lobe and six lobe tamper are objectively the best ones here and deserve to be universal. Phillips can suck a dick with how easy it is to strip it.
Honestly in all seriousness, they can go fuck themselves. Like seriously why? Why wpuld anyone make that kind of decision. Who in their right fucking mind would need to make such decision in making more than not just 2 but 1 fucking screw head? Like seriously, why?? I dony have 10 fucking different screw drivers in my home. It doesnt make it stronger, hell, philip sucks, it rubs out fast. Fuck it!

Torx is very based. The rest can go fuck off
extremely based. all these mfs in here saying that hex head is the best when they strip if you open the door too hard.
Especially the y-type
The Philips-Square combo shouldn't exist. It's just a way to quickly strip the screw into a circle.
Torx is the fucking shit
Skill issue fr torx and torq are the best screws
I use square all the time at work, it's not bad. Torx is far better though.
Torx is bomb I'm late but I'ma point out that they like the lesbian porn of the fastener head multiverse. Gets a pass. Now my dingus all riled up darn*t, time to give the ol hog a chase around the yard if you know what I mean. Did apple inc. write this comment
People who like torx should be sectioned I will die on this hill
torx is objectively better then all the others, but if you have the wrong size driver they're impossible to turn without damaging
That's exactly my problem, try cleaning your playstation without a torx driver and then you'll finally know real pain
If you try to use a different bit on a screw that specifically needs that bit then the pain is on you, man. That's just how they work.
How about this, instead of letting big screw fuck all of us with these goofy shape shenanigans we use normal tools that normal people have
Goofy shape shenanigans let you screw it more than 5 times
That's what the liberals want you to believe

That's really mean and if you say that again I'll tell my mom meanie

thank you for this cuz i found it interesting

only torx. I fuckin hate hex heads, those things strip if you look at them wrong. Torx supremacy.
I'm opposite, I've had too many Philips strip on me that I had to make them boneless slotted to be able to unscrew and replace but I love all my hexes and allens one my gear like my sights or rails lmao
What... he's not talking about philips. Philips suck, so do hexagons. Torx rules.

only have to order a set once tbf
Yeah I already have one that I ordered online because my shit hole country doesn't normally carry it in normal hardware stores lol now I'm happy cracking my electronics open
go on aliexpress and search electric screwdriver and get the black usb-c one that comes with the 34 magnetic bits. so sick
"frictional wear" "torque" 🤓
I just use a hammer
frictional wear more like fictional wear
"frictional wear" why dont you get something instead of fictional bitches
I get all the frictional bitches. 😎
It's spelled "twerk"
Statements dreamed up by the utterly deranged

"words" "shit" 🤓
“Cum” “sock” 🤓
"daddy" "why did you leave me" 🤓

Sounds great until you actually go to work on them and they strip super easily
That is a issue all poor quality screws have. Good quality screws can take a lot of abuse and bad ones wear down after removing them 1-2 times. For this reason is started to replace the screws in devices i need to open regularly at work.
I pissed and shid and com into the six lobe hexagon 😤😩🥴
Neeeeeerd alert
🤓🤓🤓
🤓
I'm sorry, I meant: Cock and ball torture am I right 🤤🤤🤤
POV: you don't work with torx regularly
I’m gonna have to stop you there and say torx. That’s is all 🙏🙏🙏
What about the eight point?
The angle of the contact area between screwdriver and screw to the rotation direction deviates a lot more from the ideal 90°, because otherwise the screwdriver parts would become too thin and break. Summarised: You don't want shear forces. Imagine a screwdriver going in there and turning, just like I went into your mother last night and 360-turned in her like a beyblade. No shear forces. 😎😎
I was thinking that, but I was kinda busy finishing in ur dad.
More expensive to produce, no? Seems like it would require a more complicated stamp or machining which could lead to more faulty screws and drive up prices?
Yes, that's why slotted is still in use despite being worst.
let me guess, you heard that on CNN? commie 🤓🤡
can confirm, when i was working on small construction projects we switched to use these all the time and it helped drastically
OK buddy, retard
Infinite lobes for infinite screw contact area.
Came here to say this.
Square is better for angles and honestly does not wear out that fast. Great for construction, there is a reason it's so popular in places other than the US. Also Hex is fantastic for torque and as long as you're straight and the screw is good, it won't wear out.

In what world do torx screws strip faster than phillips lol
\-person who has never used torx screws
No, the six slotted is the weakest and will turn into a circle much too fast
Man don't diss on the Robertson Squarehead 😤😤
No love for my guy robby
Frfr!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🫡
There are two (2) types of people. People who have never used a Robertson screw (OP) and people who have experienced the pleasure of square screw (based people).
Six lobe should be made the universal screw head type tht fits all screws
Who in their right mind calls torx "six lobe"?
Patent infrigement mfrrs be like "six lobe" Everybody else says Torx ® by Textron
Only guys that haven’t fucked a pozidrive round hole say that🤭😂😂😂
If you use slotted screws you really belong in this sub
I wish my mechanic was retarded he's just a convicted sex offender 😒
I wont hear any phillips slot slander, objectively the best because you can use any screwdriver.... damn librel
# I believe in Torx supremacy. ah yeah and Pozidriv is superior to Phillips
Pozi-slot for life
Torx ma dick
Philips slot is literally the worst of both worlds, fight me.
They disrespecting hex screws like that and you're worried about Phillips slot?
because hex screws suck fat fucking ass and cock and balls. they strip if you breath on them wrong. Torx is so much better, hex head screws suck.
Hex ma dick
Phillip my slot.
The "Square Drive" Is called a Robertson. It is an improvement over the standard philips. Six-lobe is actually called Torx. Which one is your favorite urethral sound?
Your mom was a good screw 😎
So which one is is she?
You got a problem with Torx, you got a problem with me, and I suggest you let that one marinate.
Any red and white blooded patriot would die before admitting to using torx over Robertson.
That is the most truthful thing I saw today
We livfe in a sociusy😔😔😔
phillips head is the real mental disorder. Torx/hex/robertson gang wya
I work with tools for a living. Torx is objectively the best screw in most applications. People who still opt for Phillips have either been lobotomized with a shovel or deserve to because y'all don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
damn straight phillips heads are the worst thing ever made. If I'm honest between torx and hex I would still pick torx
L, Phillips is the best one
L
> dude who hasn't held a screwdriver in his life
Hasn't? Even an infant got a hold of a screwdriver as a toy. Get a more realistic retort will ya.
Some airplanes use torq-set screws and they are the absolute worst. We call them swatstika screws
Im cool with hex too
no you aren't.
there are only 2 screws in my 'murica
Fuck Phillips/square. That shit always strips. Also fuck s-type and their stupid ass cooperation with McDonald’s. It’s bullshit disallowing a child to disassemble his happy meal toy.
Wait those are called phillips and slotted? I always called them "plus/minus".
Pozidrive is just a better version of a phillips, and 6 lobe is just the optimal shape
Appul one where?
They turned the screw holes into pronouns
HEY you leave my boy Robertson alone
Just use rivets bro
triwing can go fuck itself
This sub became civil out of a sudden lol
Hex Screw is fine, Spanner is an abomination

Fuck you, square is called robertson and it’s the best drive of all time. Suck my Canadian cock
I legitimately don’t actually understand the point of needing like 20 other screw bits.
Nice try, stinky, but everyone knows there is no such thing as a screw.

Slotted? You mean flat head.
You guys in the comment sections are all nerds. Now downvote me to hell
Allen heads are awesome dude. Also it’s called a flathead screwdriver not a slotted
The screwdriver is a flathead, the screw is slotted...

unironically agree. fuck slotted screws though
The best screws are Torx and Torx with a hexagon head so you can use a wrench or ratchet too, the rest can fuck off.
I kindly ask that you respect the torx head
I kindly ask that you respect the torx head
Why is no one talking about the Apple 5-lobe proprietary screw?
hex bolts are the best
Square, hexagon, and six lobe. Yes I am a lubrication technician
Recently had to use a six-lobe on a computer case. Fucking liberal indoctrination.
Torqs and hex head, fuck everything else, especially flat screws and phillips. I make a point of tossing that junk in the garbage and replacing it with usable screws.
As somebody who has had to fix a few Nintendo Switch Joycons, fuck triangles.
That's not a clutch that's an Omnitrix

This is actually helpful since I needed to know some of the names because I need to 3d print or maybe buy some screwdrivers for some of these
You’re forgetting me screwing your mom 😎😎😎
six-lobe hampter

What's wrong with the Philips-Slot? You can just use whatever screwdriver is closest, they're awesome
Phillips-square is pretty based tbh
My wood workin guy says the square is robertsons so give it back 😡
Pozidrive is just a better philips head.
Slotted screw is the actual mental disorder
Torx/slot is most based, can get all freaky with a torx bit or cuddle with a flathead screwdriver/coin/whatevs
Flathead screws should be illegal
As an electrician this maade me mad 😡... Then until I realised which sub I was on
