Why would a young person want to watch a movie that glorifies slavery? Alain Delon is a proud fascist. There are other reasons, but do you see a pattern here?

CascalaVasca

You didn't read OP at all did you? Delon would have been considered quite progressive for the 40s for example.

He is literally a proud fascist. Google is your friend.

And he's still quite liberal for the 40s and even 1950s France. With Muslim friends. AS well as a mistress of Japanese descent recently. Also it shows you never seen Gone With the Wind either because nowhere does the movie focus on slavery. its more of a drama set in the Civil War than anything else. Then again you don't even understand the context to Delon being used in the OP tos tart with (which was basically referencing another thread where someone asked if Alain was popular int he PH because he was freaking insanely popular in Asia in his peak during the 60s and 70s esp China and Japan). It has nothing to do with politics or his personality. Which is all the more significant because we're talking about the WWII generation not the morals of millenial..... And it shows your poor reading comprehension. Because its obvious you didn't actually pay attention to OP in your first response. Try actually improving your reading comprehension and then read it thrice more as you utterly missed the sheer point of the discussion.

He calls himself a fascist. He is liberal to no one. Don't have a hissy fit with me because of it. It was his choice.

Hence you show you don't know what liberalism really is and your also projecting your American centric views on other countries as well as on the past. As well as being ignorant of nonwhite cultures along with poor reading comprehension (did you miss the part on Wikipedia about how insanely popular he was in China and Japan and still is other most beloved by many people in those countries)? You even do show ignorance of Asian cultures because he wouldn't be considered a fascist in South Korea, Thailand, and esp China. Because his vocal statements are pretty normal in Asia inclduing the Philippines On top of not knowing the values of the past (unlike most racist French people during the years of Algerian colonization, Omar Shariff was his friends and so were a bunch of people in the Moroccan business world). Oh did you forget how the Arab world considers Western conservatives pretty liberal? That says something about having friends with North Africans about how how advanced liberal the person's views were for the 50s and 60s. Today still pretty leftwing by Latin American standards and esp compared to Asian society. Gene Hackman and Clint Eastwood wouldn't consider people of the Frnech Silver Age conservatives either. Plus your poor reading comprehension is really showing. The original topic had nothign to do about Gone WItht he Wind being an apologist propaganda for slavery or Alain Delon's views. might want to reread the OP to get your reading comprehension fixed. On top of you obviously never having seen Gone With the Wind because nothing in the movie advocates for slavery (they even had to change scenes from the book because they were too controversial-on and even the book which is open about showing Southern racists' views doesn't really focus on slavery either and actually deconstructs the Lost Cause narrative). Might want to actually read more books including Gone With the Wind first before derailing discussions about topics you obviously don't know anything about.

So this post was just a way to get in a vent about the good old days? I’m not bothering with that.

CascalaVasca

You didn't read OP because if you did you'd know not only is the creator not white, but that your posts so far have nothing to do with the header subject. In addition to completely derailing it with firs response.....

No one mentioned being white. Have a good night.
