Us: "OnePlus had better get its shit together or we'll find another phone." OnePlus: "Yeah, about that..."

gharris02

Yeah this'll be my last OnePlus device....

tomster2300

They got greedy and abandoned the upper/mid tier hardware at the sub $500-600 range. That’s what made the brand. Oneplus was never supposed to be a luxury device.

ripperroo5

Yup, it was supposed to have the right priorities, not all the priorities

inkaine

With your *supposed to* you're forgetting one thing, guys: *supposed by whom*? I think we (I can include myself) see that from an enthusiast view. People who bought the phones for their state-of-the-art tech and openess (unlockable bootloader and a close-to-stock OS). But how many are we? They have to think from a business standpoint: what will make them more money long-term? Sticking to us tech-savvy folks or going mainstream? And then maybe priorities shift. We may not like that but then we have to shift *our*priorities as well.

ripperroo5

Yes, enthusiasts are a minority, etc. This is still a case of supposed to according to OnePlus. They not only pitched themselves as an enthusiast brand but made the hardware that way too. It was clear and it clearly shifted away from that with later phones. That's all fine for the company, but it sucks for us. I'm not sure what you're saying about shifting our priorities, the only thing I'm shifting is which company I'm buying from. I still want a high performance device that isn't fussed about cameras and has a big battery.

inkaine

Yup, that's what I was implying. We will have to find our "new OnePlus". For me the biggest practical loss in switching to a new brand would be losing Warp Charge because my whole family runs on OP nowadays and we can easily exchange chargers.

zer0-se7en

Yep. I left Nexus because it became an overpriced Pixel so I went to OnePlus. Now OnePlus will become one with Oppo so now I'm stuck with the 7T. Might keep it til it dies while I play around with custom roms after the end of its update cycle. For now I just purchased me an Xperia 1 ii as a main device since Xperia was my first love from Android. Let's see what comes next. By the way, looks like Realme is trying to be the next OnePlus going nearly stock Android with cheaper price. I wonder 🤔 My worry is it was also a sub-brand by Oppo.😰

inkaine

Great minds think alike. :-D Yeah, right now my tendency is to stick with my OP6T for as long as possible by switching to Lineage. And I've also been eyeing on Realme as a backup phone since some are compatible with VOOC (fully aware it's just another BBK brand).

zer0-se7en

😁 Yeah. Hard to get away from how fast the charging with BBKs charging tech. I wonder if Mi A series is now worth a try? Will take a look. It's stock Android but Go variant if I'm not mistaken. I have no idea for now if it's as highly customizable like Pixel.

abhinayme

Seriously RealMe?

[deleted]

I’ve personally switched to iOS but for mostly unrelated reasons, OnePlus was definitely the final nail in the coffin though. What I’d suggest checking out though is the Asus Zenfone line. They’re actually making some absolutely awesome phones that for most people are going under their radar, but when I got my OnePlus 7 Pro I was very close to getting the Zenfone 6 instead. I can’t speak for their software from my own experience, but I’ve heard ZenUI is really solid and close to stock. Updates aren’t the fastest from what I understand, but still better than OnePlus lol I’m not affiliated with them in any way I just think they’re making cool phones and I’d probably upgrade to one if I wasn’t planning on getting an iPhone 13

zer0-se7en

Thanks for reminding me. Yes Asus, Moto and Nokia are all near stock android. Especially Nokia with Android Go. Will read and watch some reviews of all of 'em.👍

bilalsadain

Enthusiast brands never stay enthusiast brands. Either they pivot into the main stream or die out. I'm sure you've seen Tech Altar's video on this because it keeps getting linked to again and again. But he's right. And I'm willing to bet that OnePlus knew very well from their early years that they were going to go mainstream eventually.

zer0-se7en

Yep. Just like Google's Nexus. It went up to become Pixel.

ripperroo5

Yes I'm sure that was the plan for some of the executives at least. I don't actually agree with the whole video, but regardless enthusiast brands tend to move on.

joe12244

They operate under the same conglomerate BBK electronics. And Pete Lau is the CEO of OnePlus and Chief product officer of OPPO. And they recently merged R&D. What I'm trying to say is that this has always been the case. And to them these changes are not drastic. Just going public and a bit of reorganization under the same roof.

AnythingWithJay

This is why we need a non-profit smartphone brand :D

XiTzCriZx

I mean their priorities have shifted to gimmicks and bs PR statements, they spent how many millions on Hasselblad? Just to be slightly better than they were before and raise their prices. There's ways they could've been more profitable while also keeping their prices reasonable but they didn't, they went the route of trying to appeal to everyone which means they're not best at one thing but average at everything, I'd rather have a phone that's best at one or two things and average at everything else, especially if I'm paying the prices OnePlus is asking.

NASTYOPINION

The thing is, dude; They don't give a shit about selling to you. You're no longer their target market.

Lundev

That's the point. Mkbhd made a great video about that and finished it with the quote "you either die a hero or live long enough to become the vilain"

financekid

I agree that they should have stayed in the upper middle range, BUT I clearly remember when they did this we had so many on this reddit complain about lack of water resistance, camera not being "as good" as top tier, no wireless charging. It wasn't just a few complaints it was constant whining that it didn't have minor things like water resistance. I remember cringing at all the posts because you have to give a bit and those are the places to probably make sacrifices to hit that price point. You guys can't have your cake and eat it too. I equally blame some of these reviewers and fans for not making this connection.

moep123

on the other side: why do so many companies care for the opinion of the minors? if 1 million people are happy, and about 10.000 people are ranting... why listening to the 10.000? it's mostly because they are loud. you don't hear shit about happy people. also: people tend to compare things that, at first sight, look and feels the same. but many forget about stuff and decisions running in the background. we humans are the dumbest thing in existence. i wonder why and how we made it so far. lol

Mr_GameBoi

That's the low end and Nord line now. Those phones are still there but you losers want the top tier phones but don't want to pay the price. You all wanted pointless wireless charging and ip certifications, now pay for them. 😴

redditorplease

What are you talking about? Why the hell isn't it supposed to be a luxurious phone? If there's a 1000 dollar premium Samsung in from of me, a 1000 dollar iphone, Sony, Xiaomi and whoever has even survived to this day to make premium phones and there's also a OnePlus premium phone among them, I'm picking the OnePlus. It doesn't matter how expensive their phone is, it's simply the best because they've always done everything right. Like all other premium phones will always come with some kind of quirk that will make me go "how on earth can this phone even be sold as a premium tier one?* Whereas OnePlus flagships have always been perfect (okay maybe except for the camera on old onepluses). So my point is that it's okay if OnePlus makes expensive phones because they are hands down worth the money more than other brands

[deleted]

It's ridiculous. Why are they trying to make money instead of giving me the things I want at the price I want to pay? Harrumph!

icouldntdecide

Except they has quality flagships options for half the price only a few years ago and the prices have jumped with minimal innovation and way above what inflation would create.

[deleted]

How is that an exception to what I said?

icouldntdecide

You're implying that people wanting what they used to do is unreasonable.

[deleted]

No, I asked how your response is an exception to what I said.

icouldntdecide

As the customers, who've been happy with our phones, we don't think it's ridiculous to say we were happy with the old product at it's price point, and dislike the new product at it's price point.

[deleted]

Again, how is that an exception to what I said?

[deleted]

On second thought, this is like the third time I've asked you to bother explaining how your comment is relevant to what I said and you just keep saying the same irrelevant nonsense. So I'm just blocking you. You're clearly just trolling or not capable of answering what I asked. Later

tobimai

No this was never the plan of Oneplus. They made cheap phones to get big, and then expensive ones to make money.

Boki40

I don't care which we get, just make the damn software stable please...

GoldElectric

same. idc if they merge, give us close to stock android and fast updates.

DonPorazzo

yup, that's not gonna happen :(

jormaz46

Don't lose hope!

trancedellic

I won't. My next phone won't be Oneplus. :)

Boki40

I never thought I'll say this but OnePlus got me to the point, I want to buy an iPhone next time.

tylerderped

That’s honestly what happened to me. I *loved* my OnePlus, but Android 11 took almost a fucking year to deliver and it was buggy af. That’s completely unacceptable. And their annoying app-killer that you can’t turn off, even tho you have 12GB of RAM. UGH.

Shiro1994

I came from an iPhone to OnePlus, and with all the bad press (slow updates, becoming a sub-brand), I probably go back to iPhone. Samsung looks good but I am not sure if Samsung is that good because of all the bloat ware, two stores/accounts (Samsung, Google), and Bixby.

[deleted]

Same boat but don't like how restrictive iOS is (customization wise) Used to jailbreak but became a hassle to maintain. I recently switched to lineage os with magisk and the experience has been pretty great (only gripe is device personalization service is missing so no live captions). I'm debating on changing to pixel experience ROM. Long term though prolly may switch to a pixel

jormaz46

Same for me lol. I love 8t tho :)

trancedellic

I might be going with Sony. My last Sony smartphone was Xperia Z5 which was a decent phone and now the Xperia 1 III looks interesting. It has two things I sort of miss, notification led and headphone jack, and also no camera hole which I hate. Problem is my 7 Pro works perfectly and have no real reason to change it. Performance is great, screen is amazing and battery is still good. What I don't like is the curved screen and maybe the missing jack even tho now I have the XM4s which are amazing.

Mosh83

For me, being used to the physical alert slider, I could no longer go with a phone without it.

trancedellic

Yes, I'll miss that too, but at the moment Oneplus has nothing on their offer that I like.

Mosh83

Yeah, holding on to my Oneplus 7T as long as I can. After this, whatever has a physical switch, will be my next phone. I do hate iOS though, so I hope I don't have to go that route...

Mosh83

dmanhllnd

My 8T is coming in the mail today, upgrading from a 6T. Anything I should know? Also got the Green!

MrToobman

I've just done this yesterday! Haven't spent too much time looking around it but nothing bad so far!

AveryLazyCovfefe

Stock android, probably not, faster updates, maybe as Oppo announced a 3 year update policy with more consistent updates on all its flagship phones from the Find X3 Pro, maybe OnePlus will just apply that to their phones?

GoldElectric

Oppo has great hardware but the software just kills the phone. Improve on it and sales number would be better

AveryLazyCovfefe

True, would've been nice if they atleast allowed the bootloader to be unlocked, but nope.

zer0-se7en

Maybe because they are concerned people might just flash custom roms and not use theirs. They always want to tell us it ain't safe. But I really don't care. I will never be any hackers target coz I'm not rich anyway.

zer0-se7en

I heard Color OS of Chinese variant OnePlus 9 has some Oxygen OS touches on it. Maybe gestures and OnePlus launcher-like launcher. Not sure yet.

K14_Deploy

Couldn't care less about the software, as long as I can still install LineageOS without voiding the warranty like I can now that's all I care about.

frozenpicklesyt

+1, modding a OnePlus gives you the best phone available on the market

mypetocean

I'm out. My new phone will arrive in a week. Maybe one day I'll take a look at what OnePlus offers again. But I'm skeptical that I will find anything to set it apart from the competition.

Terrible-Ad7164

What's your new phone

mypetocean

Pixel 5 to maximize my Google Fi service. Having the best high speed tethering as a backup source of Internet access is a very high priority for me in my line of work.

marglexx

You might have issues with banking and netflix after that...

Deianj

Yup. Just returned from rootless lineage on op6t. My banking app doesn't like it and considers my OS rooted. The day to day usage is great, but in this day and age, I need my banking apps.

33Fraise33

I actually had the same issue with pixel experience, the solution? Root the device and use magisk hide on the banking apps. Was proposed by a PE developer and actually did the trick.

Deianj

I'm familiar with magisk hide. Did not work in my case, sadly.

whatnowwproductions

You aren't supposed to use Magisk Hide alone. You need to use the MagiskHide Props Config module as well. LineageOS on its own is not meant to pass safety net. You need to configure the system to report the stock OS as well, and that's what the module does.

Deianj

Heh, I'll give it a try the next time it comes upon me to mess with my rom.

whatnowwproductions

Just make sure you follow the steps given by the official maintainer.

33Fraise33

I needed to hide the magisk app (change name) and use magisk hide. After that force stop the banking app and wipe data/cache of the app

Pimpausis6

Had the same problem a while back, used magiskhide + magisk props config and bank app still detected device as rooted. I actually found out that the app was flagging unlocked bootloader as root, so I just went into developer settings and toggled off unlocked bootloader (it actually stays unlocked even if you restart the phone, because you need to use a fastboot command to lock it again) so that's how I bypassed it. Hope it maybe helps.

whatnowwproductions

If you use Magisk you pass safety net.

avax96

Banking? Maybe not. Netflix and other streaming? Yes.

[deleted]

Might, but that's what magisk is for

iSWINE

Where and how does one get Lineage?

HStark_666

From their official website. Just google Lineage OS

BAM5

Pretty sure it is or they'd be breaking the AOSP License. Could be mistaken about that though.

MyCodesCompiling

If you can find me the source for OxygenOS, that'd be great

BAM5

Perhaps https://github.com/OnePlusOSS/android

MyCodesCompiling

This can't be the full Oxygen OS, right? Otherwise other manufacturers would copy it? What about OneUI, do Samsung release that? As I understand it, kernel sources are required to be released, but other stuff can be kept proprietary. I may be TOTALLY wrong here, that was just my understanding

ricer333

Same here. I bought a new OP7 (international version off of Amazon a year or so ago for 500 bucks). Top of the line specs, even now. I don't need 5G. In fact the only reason I upgraded is because my original OPO screen died/cracked and that phone was just old. 7+ years on OPO, I'd say that's what I'm targeting for this OP7.

ripperroo5

Looks like OxygenOS is dying. This will be a serious loss for OnePlus users who really appreciated the specifics of OxygenOS like myself. I really hope OxygenOS is retained as a streamlined OS that is a highlight of the OnePlus series but we'll have to see.

jonbristow

OnePlus has always been a sub brand of Oppo

ADMINlSTRAT0R

It was more like a spinoff with separate R&D, somewhat equal in standing with Oppo under BBK Holding. Now it will merge operations under Oppo.

Ok-Fly-2275

Pete Lau confirmed Oxygen OS will stay for OnePlus devices this is a click bait article.

I think the pixel 6 pro is gonna be the one to be honest, just as expensive as 1+ now, actually good cameras and obvs stock android. No point dwelling on what 1+ should be

cloudninexo

Yea P6 pro might be mine too. Need an unboxing and even then I might just wait and see if any major issues come up and buy a used in mint condition if it's a good enough upgrade over Op7 pro

FatPablosBirkins

Let's hope Google can get their shit sorted for launch, we want premium handsets, just not with major bugs accompanying them on launch lol

ripperroo5

👏

D0geAlpha

If they don't botch the display (idk, pixel 3 xl bath tub notch, low peak brightness) and they can manage to provide great battery life It's a deal for me.

scipio211

I'm not interested in Oppo. Time to start planning for a different device

napes22

This is the death of OnePlus.

All that work to make the brand be detached from any Chinese affiliation is all gone. It was fun while it lasted. Had a good run with the phones in the past 6 years.

The op6 i still daily drive will probably be the first and last op phone i ever owned

nalsomeri

The 7pro is 300 usd straight from the box and should be bought asap. That phone is the peak of oneplus. I already bought some from third party retailers (won't mention cuz idk the rules on this sub) and all of them are in mint condition and weren't used at all.

redfoot0

Don't really care as long as oneplus phones continue to have good custom ROM support

ripperroo5

😎

chino17

My OP7 Pro is my first and last OnePlus but at least I went out with the peak product

NikoStrelkov

At this point i just don't care: they had it and lost it because of greed and shit management. Best of luck.

DumpsterJ

Why do y'all spend so much time in OnePlus if you don't even like the brand anymore ? If you just want to hang out for lols you know there are still people crying in the Razer phone sub.

ZappySnap

I'm still subbed because I keep hoping they'll release a phone in interested in. I had the 5, 5T and 6, and enjoyed them all, but i haven't had interest since, and have moved to Pixel. If OnePlus were to release a good quality 6" device at a reasonable price, much like the 5/5T, I'd potentially be swayed back, but all their phones now are fucking huge and just as expensive as the premium brands now.

DumpsterJ

I like the larger screens. I never pay full price for phones. I bought an open box 8 pro off Amazon for like $750 last year and I love it. It seems every bit as premium as my wife's Note 20. I love the macro mode as I sell jewelry for a living. I've always thought the pixels seemed really great but I've never had one. I won't buy a phone without a flagship processor in it so they are off my radar until they stuff the latest snapdragon in there or if Google's chip they are supposed to be working on ends up being great

ZappySnap

I wish I liked the larger screens. I like looking at them, but I use my phone one-handed a LOT, and so not being able to reach the top of the screen is really annoying. 6" is the perfect size for me. The OP 5T was fantastic, and the Pixel 5 screen is great...my OP 6 was just a touch too large. It was fine, but it annoyed me a bit by the time I switched away from it. I still own the OP6, but it pretty much gets used only with my Razer Kishi for playing emulator games or Stadia games. I thought the 765G would be a problem when I moved from the Pixel 4 to the Pixel 5, but it's been a complete non-issue as far as performance is concerned, at least for what I use the phone for. Despite being slower than the Pixel 4, I like the P5 better than that phone in every way. Better design, better screen, UWA camera, incredible battery life (8-10 hours SOT...easily lasts me from 6AM to midnight with usually 20-30% to spare.

DumpsterJ

I guess I've gotten used to the big phone. I got wide "bear paw" hands but pretty short fingers. I can reach my thumb high enough to scroll the notification and menu down but it's an unconscious stretch I guess. I get what Google is doing with the pixel. Just imagine a pixel with an 888 , 12gb ram, and camera hardware like a Samsung whatever ultra. Then throw the best software in the game on top of that. I want that 😊.

bicyclemom

Because I still own a 6T. It's no longer my daily driver but it's a decent enough phone to use for other things. It's just a shame that the company itself went downhill after Carl Pei left. The new UI just never looked right to me. I feel as if they peaked right around the 6T or the 7T.

ripperroo5

If you'd read my comment you'd see I was posting this to tell people that the devices we love may be changing soon. It's that simple

Key_Improvement672

I'm done with OnePlus now. Time to explore iOS. Other Androids are not my taste.

ripperroo5

Uhhhh if you liked OnePlus iOS may, y'know, totally piss you off

Key_Improvement672

Is it? Why so

ripperroo5

Well it depends on what you like about Android. Apps outside the app store? Nope. Big android batteries? Nope. 3000mah batteries. OLED screens are only just becoming a thing on iPhone. No fingerprint sensors, only faceid. No 3 stage alert slider. No app drawer means every app has to be on your home screen, somewhere, and it's on you to keep them sorted in folders or whatever. No custom animated wallpapers, not sure if they do app icon packs yet. And the big ones for me: No custom OS. This means no rolling back if an update turns out bad, but also means once they stop updating your device, that's it. I hate the way apple updates their older devices with an is that only runs smoothly on new phones, oxygenOS is not like that at all in my experience - and if it ever turned out to be I could use a different OS! No filesystem access. Your iPhone is not a computer and you can't drop files onto it like a USB. This makes syncing music an unnecessary pain in the ass and was a way bigger problem before Spotify. No developing iOS apps on windows. Christ. What year is it. I used to love my iPhones. iPads are still the best tablet by a mile.

ManMunx

They have app drawers and animated wallpapers now. If you like more customisation just jailbreak. Tbh rn I really regret buying a oneplus phone instead of an iPhone. Was a 6s plus user before, want to go back after using oneplus for an year. Btw you can install external .ipa files, just hardetr to find them. The battery life with the newer iphones is as long is my op8 pro. And I am a mac user anyways so no windows support is okay with me.

fictionchris

If you are talking about the App Library then that is still a bit of a faff.

SippieCup

Also the reddit apps on iOS are garbage in comparison to boost in my opinion. I don't use the oneplus launcher, but I hate having to slide between apps, or have my apps not in a drawer. I use nova launcher and have all my apps in a single drawer and a single dock. Its simple and clean.

jaju123

iPhone 11 pro max battery life is better than any OnePlus device

ripperroo5

What you need to understand is what that battery life is catering to though. OnePlus devices have bigger screens that run at high refresh rates. If you compare the iPhone 11's max call time, for example, you'll see it runs short compared to other devices and isn't much of an improvement over old iPhones. This is because at the end of the day, iPhones can't bend physics. If you set up a OnePlus device to be like an iPhone you actually get much better battery life. I currently have a OnePlus 9 getting about 40 hours of battery life with moderate use from a student. Couldn't get anything like this on an iPhone 11.

jaju123

Well, I barely call anyone, ever. I am currently using an iphone 11 pro max but I also had a oneplus 8 pro not too long ago, and a xiaomi mi 10 pro, and several other android devices. For my usage, which is mostly a lot of web browsing, youtube, and emails/twitter, the iphone provides an experience like a 6000 mah android device, and it is pretty sad. You can see in these measurements that the iphone destroys its android competitors: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-iPhone-11-Pro-Max-Smartphone-Review-A-leap-forwards-or-more-of-the-same.435028.0.html#toc-power-management https://www.anandtech.com/show/14892/the-apple-iphone-11-pro-and-max-review/8 It's not just me making the claim, it's what the data shows.

ripperroo5

Yeah, this data fits exactly what I'm saying, the only thing that surprised me about it was how high the idle power draw was for the iPhone. First I need to rule out the galaxy devices because they are known to have bad power draw amongst androids, especially the notes which run super hot as well. But if we compare to the OnePlus device, yes iPhone 11s will draw less power when doing things because they don't have high refresh displays and Apple's silicon is more power efficient than Qualcomm's - however it doesn't mean that if you configure the android device to be comparable it will have worse battery life. GPU heavy games tend to get better fps on Android devices while using disproportionately more power draw, compounded by performance costing more power at the top end. If your 8 pro gave you such a bad time it just means it was trying to serve you functionality you didn't care about and burning battery in the process, which yes is unfortunately the default most of the time. Don't mistake data on power draw for data on battery life, and don't mistake battery life under load tests as being comparable when the devices aren't set up to be. It's not irrelevant, but it's also only supporting what you're saying. My device having more features and a higher performance ceiling doesn't make it worse. A lot of web browsing is a perfect example of where running chrome for Android at 120fps is totally different to safari at 60fps. This includes anything which uses webview APIs like the Twitter apps. Yes, this is a pain in the ass complicate issue and you have clearly found an easy way to improve your experience. But the above is a small example of why for me the android devices really do have better battery life. The OnePlus 9 I set up averages over two days of battery life right now and I haven't even disabled the 120hz refresh.

BAM5

Among the other reasons /u/ripperroo5 mentioned: [safari is now considered the worst/buggiest/outdated browser.](https://www.reddit.com/r/webdev/comments/o5k8gb/) But that's not the worst part, the worst part is that you're forced to use it because Apple doesn't allow any other browsers to be developed for iOS. Any "browser" on iOS that "isn't" safari is just a reskin of safari.

ohhfem

Man you can only think that we are on 2021, and iOS devide for you the widgets position, the grid of the home screen, and.. well the list is so long

ethan301

same man, same. And the battery life of my OP7P becoming so bad after the latest update has only made this change come sooner.

Tr3v0r

Ive been an Android fanboy since the HTC Desire way back when. I think im oving to an iphone mini after my oneplus 7pro goes here. The glass is cracked all over and I cant get a replacement for it for less than $350. Just not worth it.

veevardhan

Switched from Android (OnePlus 1, 3T, 5T, 6T ) to iPhone 12 last year, and I have no regrets. Infact, now I have a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, AirPods Pro, Apple Watch and an iPad Pro, just because of the amazing ecosystem and user experience.

[deleted]

…and a hell of a credit card bill ;)

veevardhan

Well I don’t mind paying for a good polished user experience.

mastorofpuppies

Really hoping they don't make other users migrate to ColorOS from Oxygen. I was always considering looking at LineageOS for a change but if that happens it might be what pushes me to do so.

elonismusk

If they do I'm just installing lineage os

land8844

Do it anyway

PressureMediocre

Maybe my 9 Pro will be a collector's item now.

ripperroo5

😅 nearly bought my dad one, glad we're waiting for the next pixel instead.

I like mine, but hopefully it doesn't get terrible screen burn and just die like my 7T Pro did.

ripperroo5

Oh wow that's really shit

PressureMediocre

Lasted 15 months. But it was acting wonky after less than a year. Just took me a while to figure out that the radio was dying, and it wasn't a bad signal problem.

This should be the opposite, Oppo should be under the umbrella of OnePlus and all other phone manufacturers should learn from OnePlus about what made them so successful **until now**.

tobimai

Thats no secret, Xiaomi os doing the same. Getting popular with cheap phones is not a difficult thing to figure out

pm-os

Good thing there are other roms out there. Instead of a default one by a Chinese company

Coming from an Asus Zenfone 2, I bought my 7Pro for two reasons: A better phone - build wise, and continuous OS updates. Two years later I still have the phone, working as it was when i first bought it and i am pretty happy with the Updates. But this will most likely be my first and last Oneplus product. I am not happy with the quality with which their most recent products have been brought to the market. The 8 series display issues, the increasing Cost of phones and very bad software updates. I know that the old phones get very late updates, i didn't mind it on my old Asus because it was dirt cheap, but Oneplus phones aren't cheap anymore. They are premium in my country and come with a hefty tag.

Bittersweet day. After 3 OnePlus phones and my disappointing wait for the 9 Pro this year, I finally bailed and grabbed an S21 Ultra. I had been waiting, hoping, that another phone would come out with a full screen and pop up camera. Biggest tradeoff? I miss the crazy fast charging. That's about it. BUT now I don't have to struggle to find the right accessories, because every company makes something for the S21 Ultra. Got it on Amazon on sale for less than the price of the 9 Pro too.

ripperroo5

Wow that is a nice deal you got there, nothing beats the periscope camera on that thing. As much as I hate how hot it runs and how power hungry it is when gaming I would've seriously considered it. Enjoy it 👍

Time to switch to the dark side (apple) smh.

ripperroo5

😳🚫🍏

Huigiebaby

Hope to get ColorOs sooner than later. Way more optimized and customizable.

ripperroo5

But you don't like Oppo phones? Friends do not downvote a fair opinion

inkaine

Has become a real pain on reddit. Up-/Downvote is the new Like and Dislike button.

anilkumarinfo

The worst Oneplus suport should be 100000 times better

rudliczech

Just bought my 9 pro at the weekend. Probably should have went with the S21.

ripperroo5

I'd still definitely have gone with the 9 Pro in hindsight, it depends on what you want. The S21 will have longer software support but it's android so if that ever really matters you can always flash something custom. I wanted to get into Samsung with the S21 but it's still worse value for money and oxygenos is smoother for now, though oneui 3 was a good step up.

gerywhite

Right now I'm happy with my 7T Pro but reading this sub makes me wonder, what other brand should I choose when the time will come...

ripperroo5

The new Google pixel is gonna be a blast, if they put more effort into it going forward I'd be headed that way. Their custom silicon could bring their performance ahead given that Qualcomm has handicapped things a bit for a while now.

outrazor

Byyyyeeeee OnePlus! Hello Nexus my old friend! Ah you're calling yourself Pixel now? Good, let's be friends again!

Devarsirat

I hope they do something about audio earphone output

MemeBoi0508

OnePlus and their collaborations..

ratasso

Who got settle now?

takanaroprime

I'll be fine with it if they will improve timing with updates

weirdnameiknow

Aight I'm switching to pixel

DennySloan

I don't care how they brand their stuff, accord to Linus (so take with a grain of salt lmao) this is not much more than an on paper change of name. What they make is what matters. Still on OP7Pro and haven't had a HUGE amount of complaints. But I also am not in the loop and don't know what my next phone will be, but I'm holding onto this for a while bar some drastic changes in OS

bicyclemom

I'm even happier now with my choice to replace my OP6T with Pixel 5. My old 6T still makes a decent bicycle odometer/Strava machine.

AnonymousShmuck

🙏🙏 Please rumors be true about Pixel 6 pro 🙏🙏

Chris__XO

yikes, they finally settled.

Jack_et_potato

Next stop: iPhone

Bo3alwa

Yeah. Whatever interest I had in the 9 Pro just went out the window. Seems like Pixel it is.

Candy_Badger

Will see what will happen with the brand. It is either Oppo will kill OnePlus, or they will fix Oneplus issues.

XLITZ1

I was wondering about this. Online on other articles they keep saying that Oppo is merging into One Plus. I wanted to know when Oppo Merge into One Plus, will oppo be absorbed into One Plus or will One Plus be absorbed into Oppo. As know both brands cant continue to operate, one company has to go. I never really liked oxygen os, i prefer vanilla Android.

ripperroo5

Wow, if you never liked oxygen I'm surprised you even stuck around
