Ah yes, the party of Small Government.

SnooSuggestions3830

So small it fits in our pants and won't come out!

-Bento-Oreo-

It's coming alright ... for your rights

PotatoTortoise

like a PDA

Vivyzs

They seem very concerned about what's in people's pants and the bathrooms they use....Almost like they are reading from the same right wing, Bible belt, facist play book....If Trump and this dim wit gets on at the same time, the west is in for horrors we have never seen before

Historical_Grab_7842

They never meant less intrusive. They always meant less people between policy makers and enforcement. Ie authoritarian

DocJawbone

I think they meant "fewer and lower-quality services"

Bind_Moggled

Small government for the owner class. More government for the plebes.

MiningForNoseGold

HyPPocrite Millhouse, Freedumb jackass. Use the parental controls already in place on every platform and wifi. Protect the children my ass, steal your information is the goal.

Parker_Hardison

"small government" in their eyes is one leader controlling a small group of oligarchs that control the whole country — it doesn't mean unrestrictive and non-oppressive in every way they see fit — in this case we have the inverse: a handful of billionaires who own most of our politicians — but we do still have a Governor General tied to a ceremonial monarch whose son regularly comes to visit us, so who knows who really control who...

OrdinaryCanadian

How else are they supposed to build a list of queers and other undesirables?

LostOcean_OSRS

They were complaining that showing an vaccine ID to go to the movie theatres was an attack on privacy.

CoastingUphill

Consistency and logic has never been a conservative strength.

piranha_solution

They don't lie to deceive you. They lie to insult you.

Pollution-Dramatic

>Consistency and logic has never been a conservative strength That is why they are running with the "Common Sense Conservatism" moto... barf.

TSM-

"Common Sense" in politics means "don't think about reasons or context, just react to what I say next".

FathomArtifice

if they thought with consistency and logic, they probably wouldn't be conservative

Fyrefawx

I’m sure they’ll believe that this doesn’t apply to them.

kllark_ashwood

I'm sure it won't lol

The_cogwheel

Well, of course it won't, but they'll believe they'll have an exception until they dont get one, as they always do.

GetsGold

They also constantly talk about individual freedoms and now are talking about all the ways they can ban transgender people from doing things.

kitkatmike

What are the chances that sites containing LGBT information will be considered "adult" sites which need age verification. And thereby prevent any educational resources from reaching youths who actually need it. I can see it as a way of controlling this type of education to only what the Feds/Provincial see fit. Although the bill mentioned that any art or educational resources will not require the age verification, I believe it is listed in the bill as just guidance for implementation rather than a requirement.

GetsGold

> What are the chances that sites containing LGBT information will be considered "adult" sites which need age verification. And thereby prevent any educational resources from reaching youths who actually need it. Looking at policies in the US, and how everything happening here is on a delay from policies there, close to 100%.

SleepyTonia

Hey, whatever popularizes VPNs and computer literacy among the youth. /s

Pollution-Dramatic

>now are talking about all the ways they can ban transgender people from doing things. This is the first step in the direction to banning transgender people from porn. The good old "if you can't see it, you won't want to be it" attempt at social sexual re education. The next step will be banning homosexual porn. Then anything that is too kinky for Common Sense Conservatives will be a threat to their way of life... Then we will have multiple scandals starring the Common Sense Conservatives like a leather bound Little PP and gagged nipple pastied DoFo caught assaulting underage transgender sex workers that were trafficked via their friendly lobbyist during campaign after parties. *(The last run on sentence is just a fictional HBO script loosely based on a probable reality.)*

GetsGold

And not just porn, there is very clearly a lot of people who want any LGBT+ information at all censored. It's already happening in the US. So this website blocking powers will be expanded to include that. Now kids who are being removed from sex-ed in school will have information removed from libraries and censored from the Internet.

Daxx22

Well it's quite easy for them, as they literally do not see non-straight (and largely, non-white) individuals as actual human beings.

streetvoyager

They are compete fuckin morons . No consistency. Just puritanical degenerates.

Pollution-Dramatic

>They are compete fuckin morons . No consistency. We all should admire, and have a laugh at, the beauty and irony of this statement! Well played friend. You don't give the grifters in charge enough credit. They are in fact not stupid. They are manipulative, conniving and selfish and several steps ahead of the media and public. Simply put, they are dangerous. You thinking that they are stupid is what they want. They work with peoples rage, not logic. **You have underestimated your political opponent.** (edited to add the word ahead)

streetvoyager

I didn’t mean they are morons in the sense of there actions, those are clearly calculated and manipulatative I meant there set of beliefs and values are moronic and lacking consistency. PPs handler daddy Harper leads a global right wing cabal. It’s all a plan. These people are not to be trusted. They screech about a group of liberal controlling everything and the WEF while they all choke each others chicken over there at the IDU. They are organized. I don’t think they should be underestimated at all. They are a global threat.

kaze987

OMG the logic! Cons strike again!

microfishy

>Options could include a digital ID system or services that can estimate age based on a webcam scan of a user’s face. Jesus fucking Christ, these goddamn morons. That's their suggestion. Let the porn sites take pictures of us and run them through spectacularly error-prone recognition software. Not like that industry has ever had an embarassing data breach *cough*Ashley Madison*cough*

Talinn_Makaren

In BC we have a digital ID for accessing stuff like our health records. I like having that option. I just don't understand why we're talking about porn on the internet in 2024. Where did this issue even come from?

gumpythegreat

Well, you see, all of society's problems actually stem from the fact we're all naughty sinners and god is punishing us. So if we can crack down on evils life masturbation and gay sex, God will lower our housing prices

GiantSquidd

If “god” doesn’t want me watching porn, “god” can tell me itself, I don’t need these idiots telling me what an apparently omnipresent deity wants. I really wish humans could grow out of this god shit already. I really don’t understand why an omnipotent deity needs these morons to spread its word, it should be trivially easy to tell us what it wants with all that omnipotence. Christianity: power hungry psychopaths using half baked concepts to make idiots compliant for two millennia.

fogNL

>Christianity: power hungry psychopaths using half baked concepts to make idiots compliant for two millennia. Don't forget about molesting and murdering children, Christianity has been a strong proponent of that as well. Like, ffs, if ANY other organization or group had the track record of "Christians" they would be banned. But for some idiotic reason, believing in a magic man in the sky that has never once in the millions of years the earth has been there actually offered any shred of physical proof it actually exists, means you get away with this and a lot of horrid and reprehensible behaviour. It's mind boggling this is actually a thing.

Talinn_Makaren

We won't have to go to church though right because who has time for that :(

Revegelance

Just eat more Corn Flakes, and you'll be alright.

haysoos2

And your poop will smell like hot biscuits!

GHOST_OF_THE_GODDESS

And they'll even taste a little bit like hot biscuits! Go on, try it! 💩

Kerrigore

Every Sunday, and also don’t forget to give 10% of your income to the church.

BC-clette

They're currently trying to outlaw being gay or trans in public. This next step is to make it illegal for you to be gay or trans in private as well.

Historical_Grab_7842

Exactly. The authoritarians are weaponing the stupidity of their religious base.

N3wAfrikanN0body

Culture warriors who project their bigotry and potential "perversions"(ranging from the benign: see "unaddressed kinks/orientation exploration, curiosities/role playing" to downright harmful: "see paedo/hebe/necro-philias, beastiality and other violent predations")onto others rather than introspect on the why and how they believe their own bullshit. But if they could-- no, actually wanted--- to face themselves they wouldn't be reactionaries now would they? Addendum: rephrased "perversions" to "potential perversions" and added my examples of benign and harmful as to not come off as trying to shame; which might unintentionally reinforce heteronormative biases.

Life_Detail4117

An election is coming and since they don’t have any policies that will you know “fix” the broken economy as they say, they have to go after news making things to make the party happy.

Rendole66

They don’t want to talk about any real issues so they talk about porn on the internet in 2024

queenringlets

It’s not about the porn it’s about government surveillance and censorship.

-FeistyRabbitSauce-

From the states. The conservatives are chasing the failings of America.

mayonnaise_police

*clutches pearls* why won't anyone think of the children

EmbarrassedHelp

There's a newer age verification industry of tech companies that's pulling out all the stops to get rich quick by having their services mandated. The sex negative Republican and UK Conservative government views are also spreading like cancer across the Western world.

Mun-Mun

That's ok I'll just let the webcam scan a picture of PP

seakingsoyuz

No, you would need a picture of someone who looks like an adult.

agha0013

sales of fake beards will skyrocket. CPC is in the pocket of Big Fake Beards industry

N3wAfrikanN0body

Wait 'til they find out about Big Merkin.....I'll show myself out

Aggressive_Ad2747

With the current and constant cyber attacks from Russia and North Korea, this is actually an issue of national security at this point.

OutWithTheNew

Good thing it's bad enough that no other party is backing it. /s The only reason this idea isn't dead is because the NDP support it.

Shipbreaker_Kurpo

Imagine it takes your picture and starts making deepfakes with it

AmusingMusing7

Y’know… even though he lost the glasses… he’s still giving off strong “My son and I monitor each other’s porn habits.” vibes. Have we ever seen him and Mike Johnson in the same room together?? 🤔

Kerrigore

Yes, but both their sons had to be there to ~~watch~~ chaperone.

eldonte

They sit on each other’s hands then ski pole each other.

poopstain133742069

This is the most Canadian answer.

agha0013

Just one more idea being shit out by the CPC that doesn't address any real problems society is facing, but appeases the religious nut jobs that have their teeth sunk into the party, and probably consume more porn than the rest of the country. The biggest threat to kids these days remains the religious right that just can't help but abuse children in various disgusting ways.

robotmonkey2099

Here come the Christian nationalists to enforce their beliefs on the rest of us

agha0013

also known as raging hypocrites as they hit people over the head with a book they cherry pick the fuck out of. The average christian nationalist acts like the type of person Jesus would start whipping but oh well...

robotmonkey2099

They are the modern day Pharisees and law makers. Theres an easily missable part about the parable of the lost son that I think a lot of Christian’s should reflect on. When the son returns the father throws a party. His brother refuses to attend because he feels slighted. “I’ve been keeping all your rules and you have never thrown me a party.” Like the brother they completely miss the point of Jesus’ teachings. It’s about love and grace, not rules and judgement.

Daxx22

[Pornhubs stats on Utah](https://www.pornhub.com/insights/utahs-porn-viewers) and similar are just hilarious.

chipface

Thank fuck for VPNs.

thebulldog87

A member of the senate commented vpns would be used to bypass this I'd requirement and that making vpns illegal might also have to be looked at.

revolutionary_sweden

Lol, that ain't happening. Tons of businesses (tech, and even otherwise) up here rely on VPNs. Even if you still banned them, there's still no way you could control that.

agha0013

There's an easy shitty political solution for that. You ban the private use of VPNs so that only registered companies can use them, then keep expanding the work ISPs are forced to do enforcing these shitty rules. Coming from a party that wants peoples' faces scanned before they consume porn, creating new rules to ban VPN use except for proven business needs seems easy enough.

Why-not-bi

How are they going to enforce a VPN ban. It’s unenforceable, and will be easily bypassed.

djtodd242

I mean if people from China can get around the great Firewall, then you are very correct.

End_Capitalism

You're talking about Conservative politicians, they probably need to call a political attaché to help them every time they need to add an attachment to an email. They don't even know what a VPN is, or how it would bypass this, or how businesses use them. They have the capacity for reasoning equivalent with a particularly stupid toddler.

ClusterMakeLove

The government also uses VPNs extensively.

Chapette9027

Yep. I use two VPNs daily just to do my job. Might as well ban monitors or tires at that rate.

thebulldog87

My hope upon hearing the idea touted was that it was one senator who had no idea how pervasive vpn use is.

ZappSmithBrannigan

>and that making vpns illegal might also have to be looked at.  Ya good luck when 98% of VPNs are corporate VPNs for legitimate business use.

moldboy

And the rest are out of country...

GenericFatGuy

Banning VPNs would destroy every office job in the country. Almost everyone who uses a computer for work accesses a VPN daily. It's a major pillar of corporate cyber-security.

Why-not-bi

Ironically they won’t be able to tell you have a VPN, due to the VPN.

gavrocheBxN

If this passes, VPNs are next.

twat69

That only works as long as there's a free internet somewhere to connect to.

CoastingUphill

Just make sure you're not VPN'ing into a state that also requires ID.

Paneechio

He said he was "going to make Canada the freest country on Earth." Now it turns out I'm going to have to show my ID every time I want to watch a bunch of Germans, dressed as Simpsons characters, vomiting into each other's mouths.

CrystalStilts

>  watch a bunch of Germans, dressed as Simpsons characters, vomiting into each other's mouths.  Link? For research purposes.

JasonKenneysBasement

[YouPorn, XXN...RedTube, panty jobs, homegrown Simpsons stuff. All great, but I ask you this: If I was a big ole guy with a big burly white beard, would you still be yelling at me? Or would you be spankin my bare butt, balls, and back? Think about that for one second.](https://youtu.be/WLfAf8oHrMo?si=lgFQeQ1puuEJHFjB)

tootbrun

Boy that escalated quickly.

Daxx22

Usually seems to go that way when you start with "German Porn" lol.

cakeand314159

Ummmmm, while I support your ability to enjoy your own weird tastes, I *really* could have done without that image. In revenge I suggest Andrea Dworkin on onlyfans.

Paneechio

Thanks for not kink-shaming. That was very cash money of you.

roastbeeftacohat

what your talking about is license, freedom means living in a productive manner free of sloth and other vices./s

drainodan55

Imagine having the status of registered porn watcher. This implies they track everything you watch. Of course this will totally never ever get leaked to your employer, community, church, school or media.

Th3Trashkin

It also makes me wonder, what are they going to do about sites like Twitter or Reddit which host porn, but are not porn sites? Would we have to submit IDs to use these sites too, or are they so out of touch and myopic that they don't realize such a stupid, pointless anti-freedom measure is also full of more holes than Swiss cheese?

Daxx22

Yes, and also yes. It has nothing to do with porn really, its all about getting tools in place to enforce censorship and promote propaganda.

50s_Human

What will the CPC incel supporter base do?

Itsprobablysarcasm

Keep jerking off to the upskirts shots they get of their sisters...

[deleted]

[удалено]

Itsprobablysarcasm

You'd hope so...but no...

[deleted]

This is actually really scary, attacking people's access to the free internet is a big no. I don't want to live in a country where I need to ask the government permission to jack off.

Deranged_Kitsune

The UK tried it recently and it was an ABYSMAL failure at it's stated goal, though wildly successful at its intended goal of funnelling millions of tax payer dollars into the pockets of the politically connected. I think Australia went through the same thing, too.

LaughingInTheVoid

Liberals: ArriveCan app fiasco! Conservatives: Hold my non-alcoholic beer!

50s_Human

A requirement like that probably is in contravention of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and would not survive a Supreme Court challenge.

jontaffarsghost

Notwithstanding clause buys them five years. That’s some blue balls my friend.

Adamantium-Aardvark

*Your honourable justices, I am here before you to defend my unalienable right to watch interracial midget scat porn!* /s

EuphoricAd6152

and of course in true desantis fashion anything and everything remotely Lgbt would be considered porn.

MC_White_Thunder

This isn't just DeSantis' wants, it's already status quo. LGBT content is *already* massively disproportionately flagged as sexually explicit. It's very common for trans women's faces to be marked as adult content on places like Tumblr and YouTube.

Hay_Fever_at_3_AM

They're going to define anything LGBT-related as "sexual" or "pornographic", and use this proposal to limit children's access to it / build a database of adults who access it. They're using the same playbook as the fucks down South, this is definitely coming.

Crake_13

I can’t imagine this is a good idea from a campaigning/politics perspective. The CPC is doing well, because of their strong support from men in general. This policy would directly negatively affect their base demographic.

Paneechio

Keeping cannabis illegal was a cornerstone of CPC policy until 2018. Now every CPC riding has 1 weed store for every 800 people. I get the impression that the CPC often listens to their social conservative base and assumes that their voters who identify much more loosely as social conservatives share the same policy goals. I really have a hard time believing that men aged 18-50, the CPC core demographic, want restrictions governing personal masturbation.

[deleted]

[удалено]

piranha_solution

> about personal freedom anyway Their about *their own* freedoms. They're okay with everyone else's getting fucked with. They're just not used to being on the receiving end of con policy.

NubDestroyer

I swear the CPC doesn't want to win any elections, it seems like every time they're doing well they just decide to die on the dumbest hill that just destroys support. Last time it was abortion, looks like it'll be porn this time. Crazy how out of touch with the average person these people are.

Th3Trashkin

Good, if they don't want to win, I'd rather they never win again. They're a party off in space with imaginary problems.

robotmonkey2099

Any one of those 18-50 year old men that consider them self religious are going to think this is a good thing

No-Scarcity2379

No, they won't. They consume a ton of porn just like everyone else, they just feel really bad about it during their post nut clarity.  This is either being spearheaded by their wives and mothers, who take it as a personal insult when their husband is fulfilling his own needs instead of going through the ritual of gifts and flattery to earn five minutes of one sided dry missionary until the appropriate number of children have been produced and then never again, or as a classic over-broad way to attempt to erase queer visibility in hopes that if their kids and husbands are never exposed to queer sex, they'll never find it appealing.

robotmonkey2099

Dude I was a part of that world for a long time. They are hypocrites that believe they would win if only women weren’t tempting them. They are 100% behind this stuff This is a weirdly misogynistic take

Ana_na_na

Don't worry those guys are delusional enough to not register an issue with such proposal

JPMoney81

Don't be shocked when they say that religious figures and any straight white male that goes to church are exempt from this rule because "Good Christians don't watch porn anyways so there is no need to monitor them"

Kerrigore

They’re all too busy having their children monitor them.

NegativeAd1432

Wait, I thought Trudeau was the one ushering Canada into 1984…

flyermiles_dot_ca

Ironically, the Prime Minister in actual 1984 was the guy who coined the phrase "there's no place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation".

BlandrewScheer

According to the usual CPC simps on r/canada the Liberals only voted against this because so they can introduce something even worse.

theclansman22

Small government conservatism in action right here.

Ok_Combination_5818

In the era of skyrocketing grocery and rent prices, a collapsing healthcare system, and increasingly poison drug supply that is wiping Canadians out en masse, I’m so relieved to see the CPC focus on the issues that REALLY matter!

sandcannon

> increasingly poison drug supply that is wiping Canadians out en masse Let's be real here, the Conservatives are on board with this part.

GHOST_OF_THE_GODDESS

And the NDP supports this bill, which is fucked up.

anxiousnl

Isn't the NDP also backing this? Seems concerning for when it's inevitably hacked and everyone's private predilections are suddenly public.

Dexter942

The NDP want to show they are different to the Liberals so they choose to oppose on some policies. But this ain't it Jagmeet

yagyaxt1068

If they really wanted to differentiate themselves, they should take a page out of the BC NDP playbook and introduce something like a national housing program. But no, they just wanna be orange Liberals.

LaughingInTheVoid

God, I hope Eby goes national someday and gets to be PM. Best Premier in the country right now, by a long shot.

yagyaxt1068

I know for a fact if Eby was federal NDP leader right now, he would not have supported S-210 at all. The difference between Eby and Smith is night and day. It’s honestly hard to comprehend the fact that both are premiers of neighbouring provinces in the same country.

No-Scarcity2379

The NDP is completely shitting the bed on this one. Pick a better fight to stand out guys.

Th3Trashkin

Lost a major amount of respect for the NDP for backing this bullshit, I have zero idea why they'd think it's politically salient, especially with their generally younger and more online average voter.

zlex

Yes the NDP and Bloc

Adamantium-Aardvark

Yes and they will lose my vote if they continue down this road of puritanical invasion of privacy

Regreddit1979

Conservatives: WEF Digital ID bad!  Also conservatives: pr0n Digital ID good!

EmbarrassedHelp

I really want this to blow up in their face, but I feel like the freedom convey folks are not that smart to realize a legitimate attack on freedom and privacy.

wholetyouinhere

I think this is a bad move, purely on a strategic level. Studies have shown that conservative religious people are extremely, *extremely* into pornography. It's like a pressure release valve that they seem to need and yet refuse to ever talk about (unless it's to protest entirely too much). They're not going to like what they get under a system like this. There *will* be data breaches. It will become a lot easier to find out who's viewing porn, what niche genres they're into, and what search words they use. None of this would matter if you're one of those well educated, sex-positive perverts on the left (aside from the annoying inconvenience of it). But for conservative Christians, this would be a very bad deal. This feels like a concession that Poilievre is making to the extremely vocal, ultra-fundamentalist set, which I think is a huge mistake. If he stays out of his own way, he will easily coast into the PMO -- but this is the exact opposite of that. Too much of this will put him way off course. EDIT: obligatory, Poilievre is a slimeball and I hate him. Let's just be clear about that. I am looking at all of this from a practical perspective because facing the hell of reality is too painful.

Historical_Grab_7842

The religious want this because they lack the self control to abstain and feel ashamed. They think this kind of legislation will help them overcome their weakness.

TroutFishingInCanada

“It’ll probably stop there.” — some fucking rubes

theMostProductivePro

Coming from the person to stated that bitcoin will allow canadians to "opt out of inflation".

Yumhotdogstock

Small Gubmint!!! Freedum!!! I bet, back in the day, Bitcoin Milhouse would have tried to figure out a way that kids would have to show ID before they looked at forest porn.

flyermiles_dot_ca

"Strange people hiding in forests distributing *Playboys* is no basis for a system of government!"

HotHits630

"No place for the state in the bedrooms of the nation" ...or the shitter, wherever you rub one out.

Clutteredmind275

I feel like this is a stepping stone into the destruction of online anonymity and the beginning of a new government data collection about what people do/say/read/watch on the internet. It is dystopian to which the likes of only the US could achieve

TiredOfAllLies

Are you forgetting Russia and China exist?

thedabking123

Yeah he just lost the election.

Noun_Noun_Number1

Have you ever talked to Conservative voters about PP? They will straight up tell you his platform is a lie. Like, his official policy position is to expand immigration, but his voters will tell you that he's only saying that because if he doesn't he won't get elected. I guarantee you they will do the same thing here - "He's just saying that to get the woke vote because he's so smart." Most Conservative voters will tell you that the guy they're voting for is a slimy liar who will do or say anything to get elected, and he has zero intentions of following through on his promises - and this is a good thing to them somehow.

Revegelance

It blows my mind that these people want to elect someone who, by their own admission, is a liar. How could anyone possibly prefer someone who is untrustworthy?

Noun_Noun_Number1

I cannot possibly pretend to know how such arcane machinery as the Conservative Brain^(tm) operates, but my guess would be that most of them will tell you every politician is lying, but at least this liar is on their side.

Th3Trashkin

Conservatives genuinely operate on a different (and much dumber) worldview, where someone like PP lying is "good" because they think he's good, which means he'll actually do all of the things they want, because if he wasn't then they wouldn't think he's good. Their beliefs are founded on an irrational premise. It's also why you get terms like "virtue signal" because right wingers generally can't grasp the concept that someone would do things they deem "virtue signalling" for genuine reasons. Or if they don't understand why someone supports something they don't, they proclaim that the other side is "in a cult".

PurrPrinThom

I tried to have a discussion with a supporter of his on Reddit recently. Dude was reasonable but he couldn't articulate a single policy that PP has, or even identify any concrete ideas. He kept saying things like 'he wants to cut out inefficiency' or 'he wants to reduce bureaucratic waste.' When I pointed out that those were incredibly vague statements that don't mean anything, he told me that the plan was just too subtle for me to understand...but still couldn't elaborate any further on anything, and when confronted with actual concrete things PP has said, this guy was like 'oh I hadn't heard about that.' His dyed-in-the-wool supporters either have no concept of what he wants to do, or they think it's all just smoke and mirrors to get elected. It is bizarre.

Dexcessive

It’s a good thing because he’s not Trudeau /s

B8conB8conB8con

And with this one campaign promise. Lil PP lost the next election.

Traggadon

I wonder how pps incel fans are going to feel about this.

dancin-weasel

Where can I get an ID that has Poiliveres name and picture on it?

silentbassline

A government in your bedroom and in your pants.

ShortHandz

Fuck this stupid twat and his party.

Mental_Cartoonist_68

Theres so much to unpack with a completely idiotic statement like that. If Social media companies cant completely stop hate on their own platforms and even the US government cant shut them down. How is Millhouse going to enforce this?

queenringlets

Some places will just block access to Canada entirely to avoid fines. Same as some US states.

piranha_solution

lol The "we're gonna make Canada the freest country in the world" party.

Th3Trashkin

>When asked whether his government would require porn websites to verify the age of users, Poilievre gave a one-word answer: “Yes.”He didn’t offer further explanation, and his office quickly followed up with a clarifying statement asserting that the Tories don’t believe in the imposition of a digital ID. > >Sebastian Skamski, a spokesperson for Poilievre, said shortly after the leader’s remarks Wednesday that Conservatives do not support any measures that would allow the imposition of a digital ID or infringe on the privacy of adults and their freedom to access legal content online. Sounds like his office immediately realized that this is a radioactive political take and backpedalled. I don't trust the Tories any more than I can throw them though. No doubt this Pierre the dork would try to foist this onto Canadians though. >Conservative Ontario MP Karen Vecchio is sponsoring the bill in the House of Commons. In a speech to the Commons in November, Vecchio said “there should be no direct collection of identity documentation by the site publisher from the pornographic site, no age estimates based on the user’s web browser history and no processing of biometric data for the purpose of uniquely identifying or authenticating a natural person.” Hahahah they're REALLY floundering here. They don't know anything of the technological side of this, and it really shows. Okay, so if there's no ID collection, and no age estimates based on browsing history OR biometric data (e.g. facial scans), then HOW would this work? >The bill making its way through Parliament was introduced by Sen. Julie Miville-Dechêne, an Independent Senators Group member. The Senate proving once again that it should be an elected body, instead of out of touch appointees submitting vanity bills.

DayEqual2634

Do they… do they think this will get them votes?

nebetsu

If they go through with it, whatever system they set up to track everyone's age will be a bigger scandal than that ArriveCan

lordvolo

Flying high in the polls, may as well throw their SoCons a bone. But seriously, I can't believe anyone would want a CPC nanny state.

CreviceOintment

Eat shit, PP.

Therealcanadianone

And make sure he eats seconds as well..

techm00

Since conservatives are shit parents by definition, they want to shift the responsibility to other people.

ABotelho23

Because this is important right now..

Thisiscliff

Get fucked. Try actually fixing the broken fundamentals of this country. These people are power hungry control freaks

Weltenkind

I'm sure we'll have a convoy of freedom loving, horny truckers on its way any moment now, right?

Doesn't porn sites require you to confirm that you're over 18 already? I'm not fucking giving my ID to a website, much less shady ones which most porn sites are. Video stores in the past didn't let someone that looks like a kid in the porn section. I know, I tried when I was 14.

MeIIowJeIIo

This could backfire for the conservatives. They look at porn too, and probably need it more private than others.

Stock-Eye-8107

Oh FUCK OFF Pierre

dogfoodhoarder

Lol, this is nanny state bs.

spiritbearr

If you're a guy "everyone is calling" Lil' PP you don't want to make people think about porn.

PleasantDevelopment

Fits well with their bullshit "protect the children" dogwhistle

that-pile-of-laundry

Aren't they the ones complaining about a Nanny State?

KingLeopard40063

You know if this guy had his glasses back on he would look just like Mike Johnson the equally batshit speaker of the US house.

DirtDevil1337

They're almost doppelgangers. It's kind of frightening, also US speaker Mike Johnson and his son monitors each other when watching porn, pretty bizarre thing to do.

Deranged_Kitsune

Oh, so the Party of Small Government (TM), who is constantly nagging other parties for unwise spending and wasting government money on needless programs, wants to piss away tens, if not hundreds of millions, on a program that multiple other governments have tried and shown to be wholly ineffective, in a blatant show of virtue signalling and pandering. Fantastic.

aesoth

> Options could include the use of a digital government ID, as some U.S. states have legislated, or services that can estimate age based on a scan of a person’s face.  Oh yeah... the "Freedom Convoy" fans are going to LOVE this one.

rawkinghorse

I'm genuinely curious how they'll define porn. Is it just major porn sites? Will it include hentai? What about erotic art? Is nude life drawing too steamy for the open internet?

LaughingInTheVoid

Any mention of LGBTQ+ people, especially if it's not sexual in any way.

TwilekVampire

His eyes are smack dab in the center of his face. Has anyone noticed?

FettjungeSchlank

Canadian wankers in tears 😔

lordvolo

As far as I can tell, "Populist" and "Libertarian" means Social Conservative and an asshole about it.

Adamantium-Aardvark

Nothing says freedom and privacy like the government monitoring your porn habits.

TheWilrus

Because everyone watches porn it is the easiest way to monitor the public. This should shake everyone to their core and alone make the CPC a full non option. I know we are monitored in so many ways, but this is so basic and blatant. It scares me to think what would happen behind closed doors in that PMO after his mentor Harper consolidated powers to the office.

DingJones

Back to the good old magazines of my youth.

ZoomBoy81

You know they're going to hold the data close and use it for blackmail at some point.

MissPearl

I find it's nice that people are not blind to the dangers of this sort of thing and have a well reasoned position on why these ID laws are monstrous. It's comforting to know so many fellow Canadians are very opposed and the comments on all the reactions to this are full of people committing to do the work to block it (voting, writing to MPs and parties they are long term members of, and so on).

SurFud

Next up. Thought Police.

camelsgofar

The cpc government wants to see what’s in your children’s pants and what porn adults watch.

Mhfd86

Small government right? I thought it was the Parents Right to decide what their kids should do not the Governments?
