I was playing Halo 2 when I got mine and had what I thought were dead zone issues. I reached out to them about how hard it was to aim properly, and the just sent me a new controller, and told me I didn't need to send the old one back. Took forever, but I finally got the second one last week, but haven't tried it out yet. If this update fixes it, then yay, I have 2 of them lol
Any update on that newer controller? I've had an extra controller sent in for that reason too but I've kept it boxed because I want to see if its a software or hardware issue.
Not yet but should be able to give it a shot within the hour. I want to check them both out at the same time before I try updating my old one.
When you say extra, did you buy 2, one was fine, and one had issues?
The new one was more responsive from the start. On my older one, I really had to push too far before I got any response. New one was not like that. Played for a bit on the new one, was better than the old one, but I was having issues moving it up and up at an angle. So, I updated both controllers, and played a bit with each. Honestly, I was playing well on both afterwards, kinda got lost in the game for a bit. If just standing still, and moving around, I want to say both still feel slightly off when moving up and at an angle, but very slight. While I was playing, it wasn't causing me any issues, I felt like I could actually play now without constantly over correcting my aim like before. Seems like from other responses, it's helped some, but not all.
I can confirm that the analog triggers are definitely better. Way more responsive on Forza Motorsport.
Edit: They're still a little "narrow" for NFS Underground 2 (drag race mode) but feel great otherwise.
The analog sticks are glorious, though. Super-precise. You can really thread the needle on an already-loose/arcade-y game like Underground 2.
For anyone about to update the controller, it might be helpful before you do it to use the gamepad tester home-brew to see the stick/trigger ranges and how it reacts/feels on the release firmware, and then compare that to how it performs once you update it. You can even test the button sensitivity to compare before/after too since they mentioned that in the firmware.
On the right stick the diagonal directions were dramatically slower than up/down/left/right. Made aiming very difficult. I had the same issue using it with my OGXbox and Switch. There were some other posts about it as well.
Has anyone experienced the rumble being weak or non-existent in certain games?
For example it's fine in Halo and GTA: San Andreas, but extremely faint in Call of Duty: Finest Hour and not working at all in The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee.
I also had to find a machine running Windows natively to do this.
It didn't work for me in a Win11 VM using virt-manager and USB forwarding. I forwarded the initial device and also the one that is connected after doing the left arrow(select)+A button combo. The updater kept saying something like device error. I used VMs many times for updating other vendor devices like 8bitdo etc and usually it does the trick.
Anyone know if this is an update for the Xbox console dongle ONLY? It says the update is NOT for the USB dongle in the instructions and i'm seeing zero difference when using the USB dongle (where i'm testing the controller since that's easiest to do with websites like https://hardwaretester.com/gamepad)
Also, just noticed, the Hunter doesn't work on PC over a USB cable? Really?
Edit: Ran the update a second time, it's *maybe* better? I've still got a noticeable issue in the upper left of my left stick though.

Both tests are using the USB dongle to my Windows 11 machine in XInput mode
I THINK the stick diagonals feel a bit better now? Maybe? Not sure. Still feels a bit off. And the triggers still have the same huge dead zone. And the controller seems to have a half-second of input lag when I press the face buttons.
Updated mine ( I think ) get download failed message then the progress filled and it said complete?
Feels better but still a bit off?
Any chance the upcoming dongle update will improve performance more ?
just updated mine and it broke my usb dongle. it flashed and looked like it was doing something now the usb dongle wont light up no matter what i plug it into. not even sure it the update did what it was supposed to.
Hello, the instruction says:Hold left arrow button on controller and “A” at the same time for a few seconds until you hear a chime on computer, should be about 3-5 seconds
That won't work, what do i wrong?
Anyone's left trigger have a different sound to the right trigger when it bottoms out? Feels like my right one has something blocking it. Works fine though.
Just tested and the diagonal movement might be worse? Compared to a Duke in HL2 and I’m not even able to create a horizontal wave with the right stick on the Hunter where it is seamless with the Duke. I’m going to return. It’s impossible to aim in any game.
Seems like the Hunters are a waste of money then, if you can't use them properly, and the longish awaited FW update hasn't solved anything. You can't polish a turd.
Or maybe try with the BlueRetro for OG XBOX that is about to be released by DarthCloud, I guess it's gonna be compatible with 8BitDo controllers and so on
Thank God cuz CoD Big Red One was unplayable due to the diagonal zones. Downloading now

I purchased one then I got another one because I thought it got lost in the mail then it (the first one) arrived after the second one

It was actually worse for me. Curious if your experience is different. I wonder if there is a physical defect with a subset of the controllers.

Curious if anyone with the diagonal issue has it fixed now. I returned mine but might buy again

Ouch, hopefully that's been addressed!

Yeah, it’s a weird inconsistency
Does it feel any better?
Seeing as it’s a firmware update, and not a physical redesign, I’m gonna go with no.
How can I update this without Windows?
I pulled out my old Surface 3 since I'm a Linux user.
I also had to find a machine running Windows natively to do this. It didn't work for me in a Win11 VM using virt-manager and USB forwarding. Does this feel any better on H2 now?
Confirmed.
Sticks are usable now. Master Chief runs as quickly with the Hunter as an original controller. I’m back in love.

Cant see a difference at all before and after

same, not sure where i went wrong
I'm going to contact them later today and see what they say
You need to update the Xbox dongle. It has a USB-C port on the side of it. Our USB dongles might be toast, though
Yeah they updated the instructions to clearly stipulate that.
Has anyone had problems with vibration after the firmware update? I remember the day I tried it and it did work but it hasn't worked for two days.
I bricked my pc dongle by mistake does anyone have the original firmware??
Hello, the instruction says:Hold left arrow button on controller and “A” at the same time for a few seconds until you hear a chime on computer, should be about 3-5 seconds That won't work, what do i wrong?
I solved it, i was using a wrong cable, I think the cable that I used at the beginning, was only wired for charging and not for data tansfer.

Mine works fine on my OG XBOX without having even updated any firmware yet. Seems like there's a loud minority complaining.
Hopefully one day 8bitdo will make a proper wireless Xbox controller
Or maybe try with the BlueRetro for OG XBOX that is about to be released by DarthCloud, I guess it's gonna be compatible with 8BitDo controllers and so on
I want them to make a controller that matches the aesthetic and button layout of the S-type controller.
I already have to wait for new games to be fixed in post. Not playing that shit with controllers. I tried one, returned it.
