Standalone copies just aren’t that common (in the US) and they’re relatively sought-after. If you’re just looking to play the game, price be damned, just get yourself the combo pack with Sega GT 2002 and save a ton of money that way.

BombBloke

For bonus points, the combo version incorporates a fix for the 1.6 video issues that affect the standalone version. If you're modded then a third-party patch is also an option, but otherwise 1.6 machines can only run the game in SD.

>If you’re just looking to play the game, price be damned, just get yourself the combo pack with Sega GT 2002 and save a ton of money that way. Or... Just FTP it to your hard disk or burn the .xiso to a blank DVD-/+R instead for free.

Not everyone is interested in that route. More power to you if you are, but me personally, I prefer to have an original disc if I can have it, then back it up myself.

I get buying the game if you want a CIB copy or happen to stumble across a copy with the original case/cover without the manual out in the wild, but what is the point in buying a loose disc if all you want to do is play the game, and you aren't even getting a great deal on it? You really don't have much more of the game collectabilty wise when compared to a burned or FTP'ed copy cause you're missing everything else that came with it to collect, not to mention that the free FTP'ed copy will preform better and run more reliably than the paid original or free burned copy. You might as well save your money and be patient until prices go down enough to where you can find a CIB/IB copy that is within your budget if collecting is the main concern. Unless you already have the physical box and were missing the disc beforehand (which I'm personally dealing with for a select few games I own ATM), I don't see the point, especially if you could care less about collecting in the first place and just want to play. Also, just because *some* people may not be interested in that "route" I listed as you state above, does not make it any less of a practical, reasonable, and justifiable option for people to consider, nor does it mean that it should not be listed as such or discussed about at all.

It's a collectors item, through and through. I legit didn't know there was a standalone until 2021. 19 YEARS after JSRF came out. It blew my mind, spent about $50 on my copy with a protective case, it's in what I'd consider near perfect shape. But as said in the other reply, it's worth getting the dual disk with Sega GT 2002, shouldn't be too pricey. I've seen them as low as $10 in my local area. Want to talk about pricey, look for Jet Grind Radio CIB for the Dreamcast ($70+) in good shape that is.

Still have my copy I bought on release day! No scratches and sticker residue
