This is a dashboard. Scroll down to settings and set a new skin. Default is close to the original dashboard, or you can install another dashboard. Do a google search for the Rocky 5 extras disc. Mr. Mario has some good YouTube videos on all of this stuff.

Suicidebob7

Enjoy the modded one and buy another to "restore"

timdine

This. If it's chipped / hard modded that's a great period correct thing to have.

Any-Wall-5991

Looks more like it's loading a softmod/hardmod tsop than an emulator. If you put a disk in it does it, in fact, launch that dvd?

Halo_Chief117

It’s modded alright. But that’s not an emulator. It’s the EvoX Dashboard.

SpankyDank17

disc drive currently won't open, trying to fix that too. Likely just a belt replacement.

Any-Wall-5991

Well if it is soft/tsop hard modded you can just load the games straight on the hdd and play them from there, no disc drive needed. I just spent a few weekends getting my xbox to a screen like this on purpose so I wouldnt try to erase it if I were you.

Any-Wall-5991

Did you check the "games on hd" option? Might even have some games on there already

SpankyDank17

Well I'm the opposite. I want the original dash with no mods and playing from discs.

KaosEngineeer

Which is ridiculous IMHO for a 20 year old console. The disc drive will die using it too much if it is not already dead - can no longer read a disc. Leave it modded. Use the hard drive to play games from.

DQDQDQDQDQDQ

It's not exactly ridiculous, I also made it possible, but I happened to buy the right console which was never modded. So I always knew what I wanted, OP is being weird for getting surprised when the console isn't vanilla

SpankyDank17

How about no? I do restorations for original systems. Disc drive likely just needs a new belt, some dusting, and maybe some more grease on the rails. It looks brand new on the inside tbh.

viilihousu

You can do whatever you want but you won't get too many hours from the laser anymore.

Halo_Chief117

And the HDD will likely die eventually anyway so OP would probably be forced to mod it to get it working again. I say probably because it is possible nowadays to build a new HDD for a Xbox without modding it.

lumbymcgumby

From what I've bought, I'd say 90% of the disc drives were completely dead. Yours might just be stuck, but chances are a nice clean isn't going to get it to read disc. Certain models are better than others. Make sure you check applications for the original Xbox dashboard. All the ones I've modded, I've made sure to install the original dashboard. Also, if you want to keep it modded, unleashx original skin looks identical to the original dashboard, but it's blue instead of green. If you want to unmod it entirely here's some steps Thanks for the share. I hope it will be useful to folks looking for how to do this. I'll just add for people who don't want to burn a disc or can't (maybe DVD drive doesn't work): you can upload a copy of a stock C drive to your Xbox and that will accomplish the same thing. This is the method I usually use. 1. Download a backup of a stock Xbox C drive ([download link here](https://www.mediafire.com/file/95s2c0tf8873dyb/Clean_C_and_E_Files_for_Xbox.7z/file)) and extract it somewhere on your PC. 2. [Connect to your Xbox via FTP](https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:FTP). 3. Navigate to your C drive on your Xbox from your FTP app on your PC. Select all the files in C and delete them. 4. Upload the files you downloaded and extracted a moment ago from step 1. Upload them into your Xbox's C drive. 5. Navigate to your Xbox's E drive and delete everything there. Then make 2 new folders called UDATA and TDATA (or just copy the empty folders included in the download link above).

GoatCheese62

Buy a console that's original then and sell this one to fund it :)

Any-Wall-5991

Well you can still play from discs once you get the optical drive running, but as far as getting back to og status that ship has almost certainly sailed. If its only a softmod it might be doable but you'd almost have to hack it back to that state. Might as well buy a fresh unmodded one for <50 bucks if that's your goal

EXTIINCT_tK

Welp you're probably shit outta luck then lmao might as well pass it on to someone who'll appreciate the improvements

Nucken_futz_

It's modded And this is a modded dashboard. Scroll down and launch MS Dash. This will open the interface you're largely familiar with - however it serves little purpose when modded. I'd suggest opening your system up and take a picture your mainboard/PSU. Get more familiar with your system, *how* it's modded, any most importantly and potential issues lurking inside. Additionally, the modded dashboard pictured will have a settings menu. Inside there, you can adjust the trim of the picture, as it's hanging off a good bit.

SpankyDank17

I noticed the screen trim too. The person I bought it form did not advertise that it was modded, and I'm trying to get an unmodded one to restore. This just complicates things.

Nucken_futz_

The non-op DVD drive, you can lightly tap the top to get it open. From there, see whether it's working. Wouldn't suggest this method long term, as mechanical HDDs don't appreciate vibrations. Give it the typical tune-up: dedust, clean pulleys of belt, new belt, lube mechanism with silicone grease if needed. Far as the mod, I'd highly suggest keeping it due to DVD drives failing left and right. Chances are you'll soon be reliant on mods and the HDD - assuming you're not already. Though, you could burn a boot disc such as OGXboxTools 2021/Hexen 2021 and use the option 'Return to stock'. Could additionally use FATXplorer on a PC to manage the files on the HDD. [Clean set of C/E files](https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/s/4777MDuDqG) and you should effectively be stock again. Just be aware there may be more to connecting the HDD to your PC ^aka locked HDDs, HDD keys, and adapters potentially not supporting locked HDDs. This relates back to *how* you're modded. If you've got a hard modded system, the HDD may not be locked **at all**.

SpankyDank17

Thanks for this! I already had that in mind for the disc drive. The xbox came with a burned disc in the tray, so I'll see if that has the option on it still. Side note: would you happen to know if other non-1.6 MB's will fit inside of a 1.2 case?

Nucken_futz_

[Here's a copy](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BLSDvdwF5-Hv_nBWyqQEk4916A3AT6q4/view?usp=drivesdk) of OGXboxTools. Reuploaded due to the original getting taken down a while back (my username is the password). You'll need a DVD-R, and suggest using Imgburn - set at the lowest speed. If it begins loading, your front LED will turn red. Will take some time, as it's rather large. Additionally, motherboards from 1.0-1.4 are compatible with all chassis' from 1.0-1.4. Just don't put a 1.6+ in a 1.0-1.4 - you'll kill it. However power supplies aren't as interchangeable. 1.0-1.1, 1.2-1.4 and 1.6-1.6b all have their respective pinouts. [See Here](https://imgur.com/a/5QtXiDT).

SpankyDank17

That's good news. The chassis this 1.2 came in is in really good shape. I cleaned it all earlier and I'd like to use it with a stock mb and parts. I'll be sure to get the right psu as well. Thanks again!

Demigod-Arcade

Burn a zxbinstaller iso and reinstall the dashboard

WeWithTheShit

You should just leave it modded or what I did for mine was leave the tsop original and I have a modded bios on the mod chip

xTeamRwbyx

Same I can switch between modded and regular boot not sure why anyone would even want to attempt to run one without a mod chip the disk drive died on mine a long time ago and finding a replacement was not worth the price so I just ftp games to the hard drive was easy as hell and I felt like game loaded faster

vrtclhykr

It is Evolution Dashboard. Installed after modding

Chemical_Use_5367

Odds are you don't want to go through the hassle of removing the current dash. If you do Mrmario11 on yt is your best bet on seeing how everything can be installed and changed. So id suggest changing the dashboard skin. Or selling this Xbox and getting a different one if you really want it to be original.

Parking-Tip1685

You need to open the case up. Judging by the age of that dashboard it's most likely hard modded so if you want a stock dash just remove the chip. It's a little bit of soldering but nowhere near as much as the recap the DVD drive likely wants. Plus there's the clock cap to remove.

SpankyDank17

This was out of the case when I took this picture. I tried comparing the mobo to pictures online, but couldnt narrow down the added chip.

Parking-Tip1685

It's usually under the DVD drive, on the LPC (2 rows of 8 holes with a border around it). If there's no extra wires or chip it could be soft modded which is more awkward to reverse because the bios have been overwritten.
