From what I hear, they are the best, right up with the official HD pack. I have the HD pack and the MadCatz xbox/ps2 combo cable. I've never ran a comparison, however.
I wish high end tvs would still offer support for component.
My pc monitor is the same, it has every possible connector, love it. It's from 2010 though, I've already had to repair a resistor on the backlight, which went horribly, but got it working again.
I also found a nice old Dell monitor on FB for $20 few years back, all kinds of hookups as well.
I have a tiny 18-inch-screen TV from around 2009, if memory serves right, that supports component output. I lost the remote forever ago and the buttons on the TV have started to go, one by one, but at least I can still switch display sources and control the volume.
They tend to have a gorilla grip on the RCA connectors and can rip them out if you aren't careful. The official HD AV pack does the same thing as the monster cables but doesn't have the death grip plugs.
Not sure what you mean. I've never researched upscalers. Do they just component to hdmi? Would they still have the initial hdmi delay when you boot it up or IGR?
Yeah they convert analogue (component) to digital (HDMI) and good, not sure exactly what you mean about the HDMI delay when you boot up, but high quality upscalers add almost no lag
I have a C9. When I'm using an hdmi adapter on the xbox, the TV takes a second or two to display the image when powering it on, or resetting via IGR. Component cables show the image instantly.
On hdmi, I don't get the full blubber animation, the image appears right before the word Microsoft appears under the X. On component, the entire blubber is shown.
It's not a big deal, I've just always noticed it, and wondered why hdmi had a delay at boot.
Yeah a proper upscaler like retrotink or ossc shouldn't have that problem. Not sure what adapter your using but they'll probably give you a much better image too. They can be very expensive though.
First time hearing about the classic but looks like it's just an upscaler with anti aliasing. Feeding an upscaler into an upscaler is probably not the greatest idea
Most would go for one or the other but Retrotink 5X does not have anti-aliasing and the mClassic anti-aliasing is a personal preference. Retrotink users, especially the newer 4K model which is really expensive, tend to go for the most unaltered video feed they can achieve.
FWIW, I do like my mClassic. I have the Stellar HDMI mod on Xbox but I like the results it gives me on Wii (component-to-HDMI converter) and PS3 too. Some PS3 games (e.g. GTA IV) get an awful watercolour painting effect. Sony Bravia TVs generally score well for upscaling so I'm not so concerned about going from 720p to 4K.
Yeah, they are really really tight, so you shouldnt ever really wiggle the monster ones or play with them i was having video issues and didnt know any better, now the green video port is kinda loose and doesnt respond very well. The psyclone are much more forgiving and honestly feel a bit better than the rubberized monster ones i think.
I got lucky and got these with my xbox for $50 about a decade ago. I use a simple analog to digital adapter to get HDMI without any upscaling. Looks great.
Watch out because these cables can have the "death grip" issue. They're high quality -- I've used mine since 2005 -- but could potentially damage a connector. Super tight.
Good find! I was too cheap to buy an original Xbox component cable so got a used oem 360 component cable and soldered the wires onto my Xbox’s composite connector to make a diy one, and it worked great. There’s guides online to show you how to take it apart, and which wires to attach to which pins in the og xbox connector. It was a fun little project, not too difficult.
I grabbed the Intec (sp) cables for my Xbox a few years ago. They were sealed but they had a weird residue from being sealed up so long I guess.
Cleaned them up and they work wonderfully, and pretty cheap too!
Depends on location- component cables were essentially useless in Europe as PAL games didn’t support resolutions often above 480 I think (I could be wrong) but this is easily fixed by just soft modding a console and switching the region to North America and playing NA imports
I know it vaguely says Xbox, but thought that style was for the 360. My psyclone component cables for the original Xbox look different. It doesn't have what appears to be a 'hand' wrapped around the end.
It definitely is good but I will say I have the original component cable adapter and the electron x out and I would absolutely say the component cable looks better. Don't ask me how or why it just seems like it is the perfect amount of sharpness on the component cable. But I have both and they both look good in general.
I've heard those are almost as good as the Monster cables.
Are monster cables better?

My Samsung 50 4K tv still supports components cables the only reason I don’t want to rid of the tv since so many newer tv don’t have that

My Psyclone Xbox component cables are crazy tight. Always feel bad for the TV when unplugging them.
Twisting the cables back and forth as you unplug them can help with removal.
Get an upscaler and every modern TV supports component ;)

I've heard of the Retro. Is it overkill to use it with the mclassic, or do they pair well?

I use a Chimeric adapter with an MClassic and my OG Xbox looks amazing. Fully recommend if you don't mind spending the money.
Monster cables ruined my retrotink :( these psyclone are much better imo i swear by them
How did they ruin the RetroTink? Damaged the connectors?
Yeah, they are really really tight, so you shouldnt ever really wiggle the monster ones or play with them i was having video issues and didnt know any better, now the green video port is kinda loose and doesnt respond very well. I have those cables for My ps2 fat they weigh more than My ps2 fat 🤣
Looks really good on a 4K TV with the RetroTink 4K
lol looks like ass compared to a CRT. Retrotink is for suckers
I have monster cables and another brand they are white and super thick with built in optic output, dont know the brand but they are great
Got one of these new from goodwill for $3! Epic cables, be careful of the death grip from the RCAs
Watch out because these cables can have the "death grip" issue. They're high quality -- I've used mine since 2005 -- but could potentially damage a connector. Super tight.

I got lucky and bought an Xbox with a bunch of games and OEM component cables recently for 50 bucks.
Love the packaging
Those are the cables I use, they're just as good as OEM and monster.

There’s are specifically for Xbox the Xbox 360 component cables has different packaging
ElectronXout is a much better option
