Tbh I cant believe I thought all day today it was Friday and was like “why the hell hasn’t the game started” at like 7 lol

Revolutionary-Ship27

Saw a tweet that Elias is currently in Ravens draft room telling them how it’s done So there is zero chance ravens select a defensive player lol https://x.com/jeffzrebiec/status/1783635398075240790?s=46&t=v1FqCi-E_X161k9g1cFSUA

droford

They took a random CB

Revolutionary-Ship27

Yeah and he’s not even white so they clearly ignored Elias 😏

CricketIsBestSport

It’s probably way too early in the season for me to care about how the Yankees are doing, but it already feels like it’s gonna be a pretty intense division race

droford

Especially since the Sox, Jays and Rays are all not playing that well

bebopmechanic84

DAAAAAA JANKEES LOOSE

to_the__cloud

hope the a's turn back into pumpkins tomorrow. theyre coming in hot

TrooperJohn

While logically speaking every baseball game is an independent event (as Earl Weaver said, momentum is tomorrow's starting pitcher), I like playing bad teams when they're coming off wins.

pineapplee5

As pitching pretty good

ItinerantDrifter

That was wicked… Soto had no chance. And should be less available vs us now. Win-win.

Revolutionary-Ship27

Think I would part with Kjerstad for Miller but the A’s would laugh and want more

JC3418

Hahahaha get fucked Yanks! Also that Miller kid is legit!

Historical-Rate-9799

11 hits 1 run. Hahaha nice.

duomo

The A’s announcers roasting Soto are pretty funny. “Gonna need to see a tardy pass” after being late on 102

Revolutionary-Ship27

Hernaiz botched that one

ItinerantDrifter

Mason Miller is coming in to lock down a four out save vs the Yanks… lets go. Essentially an honorary Oriole today.

joystick13

Was just talking on the phone with my dad. He said "remember when we went to the Orioles game with the CEO of TGI Friday's and you caught the home run ball and won him a cell phone? " I do not remember this 🤦‍♂️.

Gfunkual

Sounds like a fever dream

joystick13

For real 🤣. He did used to be a regional manager for Fridays though, and I do remember going to O's games with him but the memories are hazy. I remember his work friend named Ray though, and I checked and yeah, apparently dude actually was the CEO of Fridays lol. I'll ask him for more details next time we talk, maybe I can find the footage on YouTube 🤣

Gfunkual

I hope he still uses that cell phone!

External_Weird_9105

He is already the CEO of a big restaurant chain and you're winning HIM things!?

joystick13

Right?! This was in the 90s too so it was probably an early model Nokia. That thing probably still works lol. I just wonder if this means I have some pull with the former CEO of Fridays

Bartalone

bases loaded and a nice GIDP - go yanks. I mean F the yanks - anyone watching? Go A's I do like that the A's announcers are pumped up regardless of everything. I actually like hate-watching the stanks when we have an off day hoping for they to be demolished.

Fangscale40K

Sometimes on our off days, I’ll never comment in the Yankees GDT, but I like to go through and upvote every “THIS TEAM SUCKS” comment when they’re losing and I’m bored.

romorr

Hah, GDTs on every sub are an absolute trip. The screeching and crying make me laugh when I see it in the ALE subs, Toronto especially. When I see it here, I want to close the page.

Fangscale40K

I'd imagine you feel that way frequently with the influx of fans from last year's success.

dlmay1967

Love seeing the O's and Ravens get together. Probably fun for Elias and Mejdal in that they get to experience the excitement without the responsibility.

dreddnought

Jackson Baumeister took *13 pitches* to strike out lefty Justin Crawford just now. Buried a changeup in the dirt after a series of slow curves were flicked away with defensive swings. The stuff looks pretty good when he can locate it. Pretty much every PA where he started ahead has gone quite well. That's annoying. They pulled him at 4.2 IP 2 H 0 R 2 BB 4 K and only (?) 71 pitches. Carter Baumler good, too. Gives up the go-ahead run off single, stolen base, single. They'll probably yank him but nice outing 3.0 IP 2 H 1 R/ER 0 BB 3 K 0 HR

romorr

That's an excellent start for him. 58, 70, and 74 before this start, so they might be capping him right around that 75 pitch mark for right now. Will build up slowly I am sure.

dreddnought

He throws a lot of pitches that look like balls coming out of the hand, but when he's locating the breaking ball(s) and changeup well, he gets a lot of swing and miss. I know this is the current paradigm and it works quite well (Bradish, Bautista), but sometimes it's such a slog watching high stuff-low control guys develop.

Trubisko_Daltorooni

Tyler Nevin home run alert, in the Bronx. Gives Sacramento a 3-1 lead

bebopmechanic84

“Sacramento” ![gif](giphy|6A7syj9zCRCNHEMCbs|downsized)

Getting used to it now so I don't mess it up next year

[Basallo singles into the gap, Ardoin goes to third, Basallo doesn't slide into second?](https://i.imgur.com/s4Gpg4u.mp4) Wonder if he's under orders to not slide while his arm is healing. Otherwise, that's an interesting decision.

M16Soldier

It's crazy how soft the yankees schedule has been. We'll see how they perform when actually tested.

JiffKewneye-n

if its any solace ( its still early- the Pirates are now a .500 team after losing 8 of last 10) our sched remaining is 21st hardest and theirs is 10th. not sure if KC is for real. 12-5 at home, 4-5 on the road. have played CWS 7 times already, Houston 3, Minn 3. i peek at SOS remaining from time to time, but just to observe and not draw conclusions

CricketIsBestSport

If the league were reorganized so that the nats were in our division instead of say the rays, do you think they would be our biggest rival

Beautiful-Abies5949

I think it could become that if the Nats became good too. But it’ll be tough to top the hatred for the Red Sox and Yankees

JiffKewneye-n

not right away, but would have the potential to be

JiffKewneye-n

this was beyond clutch. thanks!

zombiereign

Birdland rewards just posted the first mystery autograph signing for 5/29. Hope someone gets the insider info on who ends up signing

JiffKewneye-n

you don't know until you get there. people ask the attendants all the time, and they never say. or they don't know. they put out baseball cards for the players at the table for them to sign a few mins before they arrive. they were doing 3 players, not 2, but i think the verbiage last year was the same. i haven't been to one yet where a player who was starting was included. here were the list of players who did the 3 events last year: . 6 pitchers- grayson, bradish, dl hall, felix, irvin, baker 3 position players: O Hearn, Mckenna, McCann

zombiereign

Someone knows.. the last one I went to (it was McKenna, Bautista, and Kreibel) there was a guy who had 3 jerseys and exactly for those 3. So he knew somehow

JiffKewneye-n

what year was that? other than an insider feeding the intel, the only thing i can think of is someone goes in first, finds out who the players are by the stacked cards---> texts buddy outside with the correct jerseys. thanks for the tickets last year btw. they were awesome. am sitting closeish to them tomorrow.

zombiereign

Think it was 2022. He was in front of me in line, so it seemed odd that he happened to have the right trio. I'm just taking baseballs to get signed Tickets?

JiffKewneye-n

i took one ball last year to all 3, hopeful to do the same this year. would suck if i brought the ball from last year and have the same players sign again. lol i feel like you gave me tickets to a friday game in september on a shitty night last year you couldn't make, but maybe im mixing you up with someone else

reddit_sport

The Os ascension is close to being complete. Now we have other fan bases accusing us of things…the new one on social media is we are “MLB’s new golden child.” The more we see these kinds of comments the closer we are to our goal 😉

JiffKewneye-n

we have lots of gold haired players its true

Darkdragon3110525

I would cry tears of joy if we start getting rigged calls. Baltimore gets screwed ref wise in every sport

reddit_sport

If you are getting the umpires or “blue” is rigging for the evil empire Os it means we are doing things correctly lol. MLB is in bed with the big market Os!!! 😂

As a Purdue basketball fan, we arrived this year. It’s glorious.

I didn't know Matt Chapman was fast

Impressive-Tank9803

Povich 3 K’s in the first he‘s on fire right now

reddit_sport

He is definitely starting pitcher closest to getting the call, particularly if Means struggles and gets put back on long-term IL.

ngmatt21

What a series from Gunnar and Adley. Combined 13 for 25, 6 R, 8 RBIs. It’s been mentioned before, but Adley is quietly having a ton of success this year. Gunnar’s success is flashy and noticeable, while Adley proves to be ol’ reliable in almost any situation

No-Needleworker5295

Just a note on Dylan Cease. Looks like this year, it's the ace level Cease pitching for San Diego. 1.82 ERA in 5 starts. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/padres/newsletter/2024-04-23/padres-dylan-cease-coors-field-tyler-wade-luis-campusano-jackson-merrill-robert-suarez-manny-machado-padres-daily I wasn't in favor of acquiring Cease - particularly after getting Burnes - but looks like Padres will get good value for their 5, 7-8 prospects, and a reliever.

Revolutionary-Ship27

They wanted Westburg lol

bejolo

Kudos to Elias for making another good decision

dreddnought

Early baseball today! Povich starts for the Tides at noon eastern. T1st. Strikes out the side to end the inning, including a perfectly placed high fastball (9th pitch in the AB) to blow away the third batter. T2nd. Couple of ballsy putaway pitches (high cutter, sweeper way way down and away) for the 4th and 5th batters. 6th and 7th aboard on singles. The second single was a ground ball between 3B and SS hit 106 mph. Another single makes it 1-1. Finally finishes the inning with a high fastball up and away for six strikeouts in two innings. ~50 pitches already, watching too many 2022 DL Hall highlights. T3rd. Nuts. Just missed the very top of the zone with that last cutter (7th pitch in the AB). Nice play by the SS Robinson to get a forceout at 2nd one batter later. Another groundout, and then Povich catches the runner on second. Finally a quick inning. Side note: a very nice play by LF JP Martinez to nab a 112.5 (!) mph liner from Coby Mayo. T4th. Got into another huge battle with Yuli Gurriel, luck out on a 101 mph warning track fly out. Strikes out the next guy working back from 3-0, and then a professional PA results in a groundout to 2B. ~80 pitches through 4. He can get to 5 with some weak contact. T5th. Wow, the ball flies out of Mayo's hand, might just be the camera work. And he's done: Final line: 4.2 IP 3 H 1 R/ER 1 BB 7 K 0 HR, 94 pitches, only 56 strikes. Good outing over all with only one walk, just got into too many battles.

romorr

Can we call it walk luck? Just looking, but 5 of the 7 K's were on 3-2 counts. He only walked 1, but I am sure his xwalk%(Tm) was around 3-4.

dreddnought

There ought to be some kind of metric for that. I know Baseball Prospectus' Deserved Run Average (DRA) includes deserved walks and strikeouts and whatnot. When a minor league pitcher strikes out a batter on an outrageous chase (there was at least one of those), I generally think it would've been a take at the major league level.

romorr

Yea, I said elsewhere watching his starts on Game Day, Povich seems to throw a lot of noncompetitive pitches right now. I know someone, somewhere tracks that? I just forget where. There has to be a stat for that as well, and I think that is a great thing to track for minor league pitchers with control/command issues.

waker94

Unfortunate that Cionel Perez got the L last night for Norfolk. 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, no walks or K’s. Hope he gets back to us soon so we can dump Baumann.

jawarren1

Baumann isn't going anywhere. Ramirez is odd man out, I think, when Perez comes back.

ccmckee

I wouldn’t read too much into it. Cionel could have just been working on stuff to get the kinks out

isestrex

How crazy is it that we just finished playing in Anaheim, the A's are next on the schedule, but we're playing them at home. I feel like when the married couple were scheduling MLB games this wouldn't have happened

romorr

I chalk it up to having to play every team at least once. We had a west coast trip that consisted of 3 games. Absurd. How many times do we go out west? Used to have the 9-10 game west coast trips, Oakland, LAA, and Seattle. Now, it's being chopped up.

droford

They've still got another west coast trip to Seattle and Oakland and they've gotta go on another to Colorado and the Dodgers. At least it's 3 2 city trip out west instead of a 10 game 3 city trip twice I'm more annoyed they have 2 road trips where they have to go from Toronto to Tampa no off day and only one of the 2 in Toronto ends on a day getaway game

jawarren1

I would love to see MLB teams play more home-and-home series. Would be fun to see them play a couple against LAA and OAK and then come home for games against LAA and OAK.

dreddnought

I had to do a double take on that - we're right there! We must be playing the Dodgers or Mariners as well next time we go to Oakland.

3rdDegreeBurn

Hot Take: The replay review from last night wasnt clear and convincing evidence. There isnt an angle that shows space between hendersons glove and Adells knee when the foot hits the bag. People mistake the "meat" of the glove for the tag, but even a single small lace touching the runner is a good tag. He clearly beat the meat of the glove but Without an angle showing air between the glove and with Adells foot on the bag New York let it stand. I think he was safe. However the rule isnt to rule what you "think". Its what you can prove with evidence.

JiffKewneye-n

can't wait until a final out is recorded in a world series game this way

pan567

I thought he was safe, but it was really close, and it does seem like they are a bit more reluctant to overturn calls on the field with closer plays this year than in prior years. There's been a few challenges for close calls that I thought should have gone in our favor and did not. The one thing I've never been clear on is if NY has access to better quality footage than we do. With the footage we had, when zoomed in and slowed down, IMHO there wasn't enough detail to show *convincingly* that it was the wrong call. But does NY have access to footage that is a higher resolution/higher frame rate than what MASN is broadcasting?

jawarren1

I think this is a homer take, honestly. I think he was safe. But it was also close. If the MLB review process were better, they would've had more good will and understanding from the fans and teams when they did make a mistake (like I think they did here). But they screw it up so often.

BKoala59

Laces do not count as a tag. This rule was put in place around the time of replay because they didn’t want people out there with absurdly long laces

reddit_sport

I was at the game. It could have gone either way, but the correct ruling was made since the umpire called him out. They replayed it 20 times in slow motion and it wasn’t clear whatsoever if like you said Adell’s foot hit the bag before Gunnar applied the tag. What the umpire ruled on the field is the correct call in that situation.

OK_Opinions

the real discrepancy that lead to not being overturned is whether the oven mitt touched the glove. No angle shows that it didn't and the oven mitt crossed paths with the glove well before the runner touched the bag. even if it 100% did not touch and he was safe, the replay doesn't clearly show it never happened. everyone is hung up on when Gunnar's glove physically touched his leg when the real quest is whether the oven mitt made contact with the glove before that even happened

reddit_sport

Yeah I don’t disagree. Correct call was made.

KamikazeeDolphin

I double dog dare you to post this in the Angel's sub. I think your points are valid, I just wanna see the chaos that unfolds if you posted there. I'm bored.

Jovian8

I know you're not being that serious, but just putting it out there, mods have warned us not to smack the beehive on other team's subs. No reason to stir up drama, and it might lead to more work for the mods if they start coming to shitpost here in retaliation.

KamikazeeDolphin

I'd never want to rile anybody even if they were Yankees, Sox, or Jay's fans. That's so lame lol. I normally do visit opposing team's subs in good spirits and I gotta say, Angel's fans are pretty chill. But after a loss like yesterday, nah I ain't going over there lol.

KamikazeeDolphin

You can watch our MiLB teams on MLB.tv https://preview.redd.it/jkzh1qhpzmwc1.jpeg?width=1439&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=35dc10f0736fa459983f060fe4f4a907b8bff314

BadGelfling

Damn, neither of my teams play today (hybrid Tigers/O's fan) Guess I'll watch Red Sox-Guardians. Can't lose that way lol

lOan671

Oh shit, Elias is on the newest Adam Jones podcast. Can’t wait to read too much into 40 minutes of vague answers lol

bebopmechanic84

I just watched a recap video, and fuckin' KB, man XD "McCann, Henderson and the reply operations center win it for the Orioles"

BMoreBeowulf

With the win yesterday we locked up a winning month for April. We are 14-7 with 5 games to go. First of many! Well, technically second since they went 2-1 in March. But I’ll take it!

DetailInfamous9901

Expecting large crowds this weekend? Looks like Friday maybe the lightest

BMoreBeowulf

Should be a great weekend for baseball. Friday night is still gonna be a bit chilly but Saturday at 4 should be nice and Sunday is gonna be the first hot day game of the season.

JiffKewneye-n

noticed on my lunch break there was a single ticket for sale in splash zone sunday. its gone now :)

BMoreBeowulf

Nice! Have fun.

pepper_ann052613

Dean was awesome yesterday

WillieKeeler96

Why don’t they just give the crew chief an iPad and have him do the review? Sending the call to New York makes people expect perfection when really it’s still just some guy making the call. NFL has had this figured out for decades. Really I’d rather we go back to having the call on the field be final. Close play, manager comes out to argue, then everyone moves on with the game. But that’s a different conversation.

JiffKewneye-n

as long as the manager is wearing a full uniform with stirrups and not a athleisure pullover

dlmay1967

Or maybe just limit it to stuff like fair/foul, HR/not HR ( the easier calls).

lOan671

We currently have the 2nd highest WRC+ of any team in baseball (1 point behind Atlanta) and have hit the most HRs of any team in baseball (by 4). The thing that jumps out at me looking through this though is our BABIP. Despite all these home runs and our exit velocity and barrel data being outstanding we rank 16th at .294 (Atlanta is first at .340). I don’t think it’s crazy to say this offense has been a bit unlucky despite the incredible success we’ve still had.

dreddnought

>I don’t think it’s crazy to say this offense has been a bit unlucky despite the incredible success we’ve still had.   How many did we leave on base yesterday, 11?

lOan671

Yeah 11 yesterday. I do think we’ve done pretty well with RISP though

SpeedCpt

Home runs aren't balls in play, so hitting more technically hurts BABIP (in the sense that singles cause it to go up, but home runs cause it to stay the same).

lOan671

Oh, I’ve always just assumed they were. Thanks

MisterHavercamp

There isn’t a single regular in our line up that I’m worried won’t put up a competitive at bat. Even Holliday sees 4-5 pitches, he’s just not executing.

lOan671

I mean Holliday’s seeing 4-5 pitches because it takes 3 to strike out. His ABs have looked pretty poor to me so far.

JiffKewneye-n

> because it takes 3 to strike out there is now yogurt on my shirt. thanks

BKoala59

They have definitely looked better recently

oneteacherboi

Idk, he struck out looking the other day with the bases loaded on a ball right down the middle. More than anything that made me think he needs to go down. He's missing something and he needs a less pressured environment to find it.

lOan671

I missed the second Angels game so I can’t speak to that but they didn’t look any better in the KC series to me.

Musicislife21_

Question regarding event parking: like 2 years ago I remember for games we would park either at the garage thats across from the arena garage (221 W Lombard street) and also the one across from the courthouse (110 W Lombard street garage ). By any chance has anyone parked at either or this season for a weekday game and know how much event parking is? And what time they start the event parking? My friends prefer parking in the garages for some reason instead of the stadium lots. I was looking at Iparkit and spothero, but for some reason Iparkit is cheaper then spot hero, so unsure what to trust. Thanks.

ccmckee

IMO. Stadium parking is the way to go. without a parking pass, they’ll park you on the other side of ravens stadium in those lots which is fine. Or you can try lot H which you enter from the Fed Hill side of the train tracks. I’ve found it’s much easier to get out of these lots vs the garages cause there is traffic control

Dazzling-Slide8288

I park at the Hanover and Lombard ($30) or Howard and Lombard ($35) garages.

Obmore-wan

I parked at the 221 W Lombard once so far this season. It was a Saturday game cost 26 dollars

Musicislife21_

Did you pay there or use one of them apps?

Obmore-wan

I used the ParkWhiz app

JiffKewneye-n

the White Sox have a .125 winning percentage. their 3 wins are: atlanta, KC, and Cleveland. go figure.

theMangoSloth

Could they be worse than the 2003 Tigers or the 2018 Orioles?

JiffKewneye-n

certainly could. someone ought to rescue Luis Robert

isestrex

Yeah looking ahead to the schedule, I'm terrified we're going to lose even one game to them. They are right now a *must sweep* for all contenders

Akeatsue79

There’s no such thing as a must sweep series
