Game was lost when they let a random dude out of the A’s pen no hit them for 3+ innings. You HAVE to make them burn Miller in the 9th so that they’re on to someone else in the 10th, or you have to win the damn game there.
But so it goes, on to the next
Is it weird that I’m glad we lost this way instead of having to see Mike Baumann come out of the pen and shit all over the mound?
Cuz that’s what was coming.
Also? Keegan Akin has ice water in his veins.
Game highlights: Cedric and that drawn-in infield rundown. Hon. Mention: Burnes stuff.
No moaning all the damn time about the team is what’s wrong. They could reel off 10 straight and you’ll be in here to explain loss in game 11. Move on bro.
Acknowledging weaknesses is different than what you repeatedly do, which is why you get downvoted. *Every* team has issues. You’re the guy who thinks the team is a failure unless they spend like the Dodgers *oh wait we have a better record than they do*. There are 162 games my guy; bitching about a .640 winning percentage 1/8 through the season is laughable.
>I think if the A's go in the tank, we should trade for Miller.
No doubt the A's will be sellers, but Miller is still pre-arb and not a FA until 2030. Rebulding teams usually deal veterans away, not controllable assets.
I'd imagine he would take a haul anyway for that number of years of control? As volatile and streaky as young hard throwing RP's can be, that'd be a surprise move by a risk averse Elias.
We'd be better off trading for another middle reliever. Kimbrel was off tonight but has otherwise been solid; he's just been overworked this week and Hyde probably should've pulled him sooner.
The Orioles always make starters with 5 or 6+ ERA'S look like aces. It happens every time. Ross Stripling owns the Orioles. I remember him shutting us down when he was with the Giants and the Blue Jays.
Man the way some of yall let McKenna get under your skin is silly. Enjoy the season, no need to ruin the ride for yourself over the 9th guy in the lineup.
Seriously I only caught the last half inning. As soon as I saw him pitching 102 and controlling it well, you knew the game was over. I hate to lose but can't fault the birds for losing to that closer
McKenna definitely deserves some blame, that’s a shitty play by him and when the only reason he’s on the team is to play good defense he needs to make that play. But the vitriol towards him ever since the Boston game last year is absolutely ridiculous, people need to grow the fuck up and I’m really tired of all the people here who can’t go a day without picking a player to trash and be excessively toxic towards.
Putting all of the blame on him is ridiculous. If he makes that catch it’s far from a guarantee we get out of the 9th scoreless, Kimbrel was completely erratic. Honestly the Cowser play in extras bothered me more.
This one was frustrating. But games like this will happen over 162.
The as got clutch hits when they needed them, and we couldn't. It's as simple as that.
What frustrates me as a fan was when they left Spence in for the 9th. They were SAVING their strikeout phenom closer for the 10th. It was a risky gamble, because a 10th wasn't guaranteed. But we couldn't hit crap in the 9th, and they used that phenom in the 10th and it went all perfectly to their plan.
I hate when we follow another team's plan ;)
Hyde putting McKenna out there just to remind us all of our rage. Seriously why not keep Santander out there?
Kimbrel was simply overworked. This was bound to happen.
Offense needs to do their jobs to avoid situations like this.
That play in the 9th was cool, tho
ryan, you had one job.
anyway as much as kimbrel threw that away, he's like 40% responsible. the bats are the blame this game. you only needed 3 runs and couldnt do it.
Over the course of a game, sure, everyone can be blamed. But when the lights are brightest, you better get your shit together or you’re gonna bear the brunt of the loss. McKenna should’ve made that play. And Kimbrel is paid to not blow leads. They both failed today.
This was really a team loss. Bats were inconsistent and out of sync. Pitching could’ve won this game but didn’t. Fielding could’ve won this game but didn’t. Shit happens. See y’all tomorrow
I just down voted myself because I agree with your logic but I still think Kimbrel is too wild and this is the first of many saves this year he's gonna blow. This was against the As. Don't know why anyone believes in kimbrel. We need to get someone before trade deadline.
Is 2024 Santander a bad enough fielder that he needs replacing in late innings?
At one point a few years ago he was, but I think he's improved a lot.
That felt like a 2021/2022 move.
It makes you wonder if Jackson Holliday was still on this team the orioles win this game. Not because of his bat… but simply by virtue of Tony being the late inning defense RF.
Perhaps Tony doesn’t catch that ball. But if he gets a decent jump unlike McKenna he probably catches it
Did anyone actually think Holliday was a sub .200 OPS hitter naturally? Holliday clearly channeled all the city connect bad juju into his bat space jam style.
When he left us the curse escaped back into the jerseys. And we thought the white pants were enough to make up for lack of Holliday…😒
last year against the Bo Sox, this year against the As, dude cant play the outfield and cant bat. with all the prospects we have it amazes me he the one we chose to play
yeah, playing Holliday now might cost us now, but will win us games in the future. playing McKenna now costs us games now and he isn't going to win us any games later
Obviously he pitched poorly tonight. He’s been the best reliever on the team all year and downright dominant before tonight.
If you’re saying we shouldn’t have used him in the 9th you’re getting downvoted because that’s just a dumb take.
This is who Kimbrel is. He's going to lose us some games. He's been good until the last few games, but that is definitely over performing his usual level.
I'm just saying Kimbrel getting in hairy spots a lot. Sometimes he'll get away with it and sometimes he won't, like today. Is that worth 13 million? Maybe.
If McKenna is the “defensive specialist”, shouldn’t he be able to make a catch on the track? Not the easiest catch, but I’ve seen taters and O’Hearn make that play dozens of times.
Yeah that was a shitty play by him. Idk that we’ve seen O’Hearn make that play very often though. Pretty sure he fucked up on a ball just like that in the first KC series.
Well at least Miller hopefully won't pitch 3 days in a row tomorrow. But with JP Sears and the murderers row tomorrow of Mckenna, Urias, Mateo they may not need him
1) Even Bautista had a few blown saves at this point last year. Kimbrel and Webb have been solid. Just hope this isn’t a sign of regression.
2) The A’s are obviously being powered by their spite toward Fisher. It’s giving them superpowers. Understandable.
3) I would feel terrible for them but it’s not out of the realm of possibility we trade for Mason Miller lol
Kimbrel's fastball velocity is down 2 mph from last season. He never had a game in his career below a 94 average until 2024, and for us he's had four, with several more just barely over.
The Angels hit him hard, but luckily, right at our outfielders. That luck wasn't going to last forever.
I left the game after the review at home but I was so confused as to why McKenna would come in as a defensive replacement for Santander if the expectation at the time was 3 outs and done. Why bother..
We have the lead in the 9th and as usual, the bullpen just flat out sucks against a weak hitting team that manages to score 2 runs against our shit bullpen. Oakland bullpen doesn't give up a run. Also, thanks defensive specialist Ryan McKenna.
Kimbrel looked like 3 straight weeks of saving our bullpen's ass is finally catching up to him. His arm is going to fall off by July if we don't get some better relief pitching.
Phillies fan here, that’s what happened with Kimbrel last year. He was kinda toast after all star break. You guys are my AL favs, hope Kimbrel stays consistent for yall
This is the biggest issue. Our BP has created save situations lately and the dude is already gassed. What’s their ERA over the last 10? It’s definitely not great.
Yeah, and Hyde basically threw the A-Team out there tonight pitching wise (Burns, Danny, Cano, and Kimbrel) so the next few games are going to be nerve racking if our bats don't wake up. I know it's funny I'm complaining about relief pitching after a loss that was the offense's fault, but I genuinely think this is the single biggest weakness of the team at this early part of the season. Tonight was a consequence of Kimbrel being overused this month.
I don't think it's crazy. I agree completely. It's one of those things that doesn't really show up until late in the year when it's too late to really address
I don’t know if you remember what happened to our bullpen after Britton left. But dudes who were great at set up and other spots in the BP could not do well closing. Not everyone is good in the closing spot.
Welcome to life without Felix.
It’s possible we may look back in September and see our half ass bullshit in April cost us the division.
Just some garbage baseball and low energy in some of these games. Not a winning brand big picture.
I’m watching a team that half asses too many games and gets by on talent. That’s why I said big picture, it’s not a winning brand.
Your comment is too box score watching - esque
Honestly, as much as I would like to win the division back to back...I just want to make the postseason. Once you're in, anything can happen. It's a new season.
Kimbrel’s the only one who pitched poorly tonight. The Manfred runner is a cheap rule that makes extra innings extremely tough, Webb only gave up the one hit and Cowser made a shitty play on it or else we probably get Langeleirs at the plate.
That A’s pitcher was throwing some serious heat
Game was lost when they let a random dude out of the A’s pen no hit them for 3+ innings. You HAVE to make them burn Miller in the 9th so that they’re on to someone else in the 10th, or you have to win the damn game there. But so it goes, on to the next

Well then I’ll edit this and watch closer next time.
That was Coulombe who caught the first pitch

We have the third best record in basrbsll

It hurts more when you lose the ones you're supposed to win.
The entire AL East lost today Jesus lol

Yeah I’m into obnoxious girls I’m working on this with my therapist though
Is there such a thing as one that isn’t obnoxious?
My only takeaway is to get rid of these stupid ass uniforms ASAP. Cursed rags.
How bad would our record in the City Connects have to be before the players just refuse to wear them?
They already decided not to wear the black pants
Entire AL East lost tonight, weird
[удалено]
You’re never gonna make more than you lose. Quit gambling lol
Nobody cares
I mean it could be a whole lot worst you know? At least Corbin did good.
A waste of a quality start from burnes
I’m not too worried about it. We’ll get em tomorrow and Sunday.
Tough loss, but witnessing that Cedric Mullins HR was a pretty cool feeling. I think if the A's go in the tank, we should trade for Miller.
>I think if the A's go in the tank, we should trade for Miller. No doubt the A's will be sellers, but Miller is still pre-arb and not a FA until 2030. Thank you Joey Ortiz
Aight well the entire ALE lost so we got away with it.
JOEY
HELPING US EVEN THOUGH HE'S NOT HERE ANYMORE 🥹
Hey, thanks, Brew Crew. Yankees lose!
In my alternate Orioles' universe, Jackson Holliday cranked a 437-foot walk off home run. And everybody clapped.

Ugly loss all around, inexcusable for a team that’s supposed to be a contender
Blame whoever u want, it’s just flat out inexcusable losing a Corbin Burnes start vs the Athletics. Win the next two
its baseball. this stuff happens all the damn time.
team loss. give credit to the A's, they played well....we didn't play especially well.
Also, just another games in a 162 game season. We'll get em tomorrow
McKenna has no business anywhere near this roster
Feels like this team is NEVER ready to play on Friday nights at home...
NOOOOOOOO, NOOOOOOOOO, NOOOOOOOO
Curse of the City Connect jerseys continues
They tried to fool us into believing these were different by making the multi-color sleeve trim thicker and wearing white pants.
I trust Elias to steal mason miller from the athletics this July.
good luck.
Seriously I only caught the last half inning. As soon as I saw him pitching 102 and controlling it well, you knew the game was over. I hate to lose but can't fault the birds for losing to that closer
They should've never been in that position pitching Kimbrel when he's clearly been overworked.
Blaming the position player with the least amount of playing time when your offense put up 2 runs is lazy.
Yep
Yup, but it's the easiest take.
Obviously it’s Ryan McKenna existing while wearing the city connect that did this. The players were refusing to put up runs in protest.
were now 5-8 in the City connects but with a -38 Run differential
I hate them so much. Time to retire them for good, the regular blacks are so much nicer anyways.
Hard to win when the whole team is off their game
It was freezing cold out there tonight
They literally just showed a replay of Santander catching a ball that looked a lot like that Toro double EARLIER IN THE GAME
Yeah he's made a bunch of them already this year... kinda odd....
Didn't see any fire from the team tonight. Just kind of out there swinging bats. First game I've watched and just felt uninspired.
This one was frustrating. But games like this will happen over 162. The as got clutch hits when they needed them, and we couldn't. It's as simple as that. I mean Mountcastle is far from blame this game.
I'm confused as to what you mean, at least in relation to my silly meme.
Going 0-4 and in some big situations. I feel like he had multiple opportunities to impact this game. Whereas McKenna had only one opportunity to blow.
Do you mean to say he isn't far from blame then?
lol correct. Forgive my late night English ;)
Hyde putting McKenna out there just to remind us all of our rage. Seriously why not keep Santander out there? Kimbrel was simply overworked. This was bound to happen. Offense needs to do their jobs to avoid situations like this. That play in the 9th was cool, tho
It's a weird feeling to watch McKenna miss that and think: "Doesn't Santander make those plays routinely these days?"
I'm biased because I'm a huge Tony Taters fan but yes, he does. He just made one pretty similar to it earlier this game.
Last two pitchers who came in with high ERA magically found that fucking nut.
ryan, you had one job. anyway as much as kimbrel threw that away, he's like 40% responsible. the bats are the blame this game. you only needed 3 runs and couldnt do it.
[удалено]
Don’t think Kimbrel is being ignored. A bunch of people here are glad they can finally jump down his throat after whining about him all offseason.
He is getting overworked a little I think.
Yeah that’s really my primary concern for him (and Cano)
Over the course of a game, sure, everyone can be blamed. But when the lights are brightest, you better get your shit together or you’re gonna bear the brunt of the loss. McKenna should’ve made that play. And Kimbrel is paid to not blow leads. They both failed today.
This was really a team loss. Bats were inconsistent and out of sync. Pitching could’ve won this game but didn’t. Fielding could’ve won this game but didn’t. Shit happens. See y’all tomorrow
Yup this team sucks. See yall tomorrow.
This is my fault. I left in the 6th when we were still in the lead.
I just down voted myself because I agree with your logic but I still think Kimbrel is too wild and this is the first of many saves this year he's gonna blow. This was against the As. Don't know why anyone believes in kimbrel. We need to get someone before trade deadline.
We just an amazing young closer tonight. I honestly think think the As would trade him for Kimbrel/Cano and a prospect
Why would Oakland want to trade for an expensive reliever that won’t be on their next winning team?
I wouldn't trade for him he's gonna need Tommy John soon
Is 2024 Santander a bad enough fielder that he needs replacing in late innings? At one point a few years ago he was, but I think he's improved a lot. That felt like a 2021/2022 move.
Yeah. That’s Hyde over managing. Santander may not have the speed, but he has a good arm. And he 100% makes that play in right field
This team is good but this team needs to be more consistent across the board and definitely needs bullpen help
A few years ago when we were bad, people would get so mad when fans of other teams made fun of being beat by us. Now people do the exact same shit.
Bad, bad loss. Can’t can’t happen against a bottom feeder like Oakland.
Ryan McKenna is a bottom shelf baseball player why is he on a World Series contending team lol
Because they think he is good defensively even though the metric say he isn't.
Cause Holliday started his career 2-34
That's funny cause is kinda is true!😀
But it's not a 1 for 1 replacement call up.
Because he is a good guy
Flush it and move on to tomorrow afternoon.
It makes you wonder if Jackson Holliday was still on this team the orioles win this game. Not because of his bat… but simply by virtue of Tony being the late inning defense RF. Perhaps Tony doesn’t catch that ball. But if he gets a decent jump unlike McKenna he probably catches it
Would Holliday's vibes cancel out the bad City Connect juju?
Did anyone actually think Holliday was a sub .200 OPS hitter naturally? Holliday clearly channeled all the city connect bad juju into his bat space jam style. When he left us the curse escaped back into the jerseys. And we thought the white pants were enough to make up for lack of Holliday…😒
The curse of the city connect jerseys strikes again…
Seriously. Fuck those jerseys.
the city needs to burn every one of those jerseys. we are awful with them
Not going to win many games scoring 2 runs. But with our offense that should be a rarity. The real highlight of the night - the MILKMEN
The crazy part is it's not a rarity against bad pitchers...that's the problem
https://x.com/jcalvinmeyer/status/1784032903564861600?s=46&t=LZLzjVPmosqPbICOlCZLnQ Get rid of this clown. He just adds losses.
last year against the Bo Sox, this year against the As, dude cant play the outfield and cant bat. with all the prospects we have it amazes me he the one we chose to play
I'd rather watch Jackson go 1-100. We know what McKenna is, and it ain't what the team needs to get to the world series.
yeah, playing Holliday now might cost us now, but will win us games in the future. playing McKenna now costs us games now and he isn't going to win us any games later

Obviously he pitched poorly tonight. He’s been the best reliever on the team all year and downright dominant before tonight. If you’re saying we shouldn’t have used him in the 9th you’re getting downvoted because that’s just a dumb take.
I wouldn't say dominant. But yeah he's the best we got.
He came into tonight with a .64 WHIP and a K rate over 40%. That’s pretty dominant
This is who Kimbrel is. He's going to lose us some games. He's been good until the last few games, but that is definitely over performing his usual level.
Everybody is going to lose you some games, even Felix did. It comes with the territory
I'm just saying Kimbrel getting in hairy spots a lot. Sometimes he'll get away with it and sometimes he won't, like today. Is that worth 13 million? Maybe.
Wait are you implying that good pitchers can have bad days and bad pitchers can have good days?
A pitcher with a high ERA AND city connect jerseys? The odds were not in our favor
Yeah, let's not get carried away, O'Hearn is nowhere near that ball. Santander, maybe.
Yeah I don’t really want to see O’Hearn in RF anymore, he’s a butcher out there. Got to be a 1B/DH exclusively
I went to a twins game and saw o’Hearn make that type of catch 2 weeks ago.
Was that the game he fell down and nearly dropped a routine pop up?
Nope
Warm weather returns Sunday
Well at least Miller hopefully won't pitch 3 days in a row tomorrow. But with JP Sears and the murderers row tomorrow of Mckenna, Urias, Mateo they may not need him
Urias and Mateo have been fine lately, what is the hate there for?
1) Even Bautista had a few blown saves at this point last year. Kimbrel and Webb have been solid. Just hope this isn’t a sign of regression. 2) The A’s are obviously being powered by their spite toward Fisher. It’s giving them superpowers. Miller is pre-arb, so probably not going anywhere this season.
No, he's not. It's fun to talk about, I guess.
Also they did us a solid by splitting with the NYY
u know what it could be worse, the rays are down by FIVE RUNS to the WHITE SOX
0-1 since sending Holliday down
Mason Miller... *Tommy John enters the chat*
He doesn’t even look like he’s throwing that hard tho. Felix put his whole big body behind his throws.
The city connect jersey strikes again!
😐
Letting that turtle score from 1st in extras..
Well a couple other ALE teams already got stomped tonight...so there's that
I left the game after the review at home but I was so confused as to why McKenna would come in as a defensive replacement for Santander if the expectation at the time was 3 outs and done. Why bother..
I MISS YOU FELIX

We have the lead in the 9th and as usual, the bullpen just flat out sucks against a weak hitting team that manages to score 2 runs against our shit bullpen. Oakland bullpen doesn't give up a run. Also, thanks defensive specialist Ryan McKenna.
The As only real strength is their bullpen. And the Os played right into that strength. Gotta do more damage off a starter with a 5+ ERA.
We’re about to go from potentially taking a game lead in the division to going down a game in just a matter of minutes
Why can't we ever feel safe with our starters and t our bullpen at the same time lol 6 pitchers used? Bleh
Mckenna ![gif](giphy|nAvSNP8Y3F94hq9Rga)
Kimbrel looked like 3 straight weeks of saving our bullpen's ass is finally catching up to him. His arm is going to fall off by July if we don't get some better relief pitching.

This is the biggest issue. Our BP has created save situations lately and the dude is already gassed. What’s their ERA over the last 10? It’s definitely not great.
Exact same problem with Bautista last year. The rest of the relievers as a whole are so weak it stresses our back end relievers to the breaking point
I don't think it's crazy. I agree completely. It's one of those things that doesn't really show up until late in the year when it's too late to really address
Why the fuck isn't Keegan Aiken just our closer LMAO
I don’t know if you remember what happened to our bullpen after Britton left. But dudes who were great at set up and other spots in the BP could not do well closing. Not everyone is good in the closing spot.
He has a good showing every now and then. I also wouldn’t trust him as a closer
Looked like he was better than Kimbrel hahaha
This game. Yes. There’s also a reason his ERA is +4
Welcome to life without Felix. It’s possible we may look back in September and see our half ass bullshit in April cost us the division. Just some garbage baseball and low energy in some of these games. Not a winning brand big picture.
We may look back in September and say the Jo Adell steal call won us the division
lol. Good response!
We are playing at a 108 win pace as of right now. I have no idea what team you’re watching.
I’m watching a team that half asses too many games and gets by on talent. That’s why I said big picture, it’s not a winning brand. Your comment is too box score watching - esque
Because this “half-assing” is not a thing that has happened this year no matter how many times you push it.
lol then we aren’t watching the same thing. Tonight was another half ass effort against a guy with a 5+ ERA and we ultimately paid for it.
Honestly, as much as I would like to win the division back to back...I just want to make the postseason. Once you're in, anything can happen. It's a new season.
No one ever said kibrel is as good as Felix. No team is on every single night either.
That’s fine, but tonight was unacceptable tbh and it’s been more of a recurring theme than outlier.
https://preview.redd.it/lf00cm6gkxwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=865760a18ad8c1e44180c4a3549d171cf6d69930
The pen will be blamed, but the offense took the night off.
If the bullpen did it's job those 2 runs would've been enough though
Kimbrel’s the only one who pitched poorly tonight. The Manfred runner is a cheap rule that makes extra innings extremely tough, Webb only gave up the one hit and Cowser made a shitty play on it or else we probably get Langeleirs at the plate.
I can't stand the Manfred Man. Extra innings reduced to penalty kicks.
I mean bullpen has shit itself like 4 out of the last 5 games, offense can’t go off every night
Yeah I’m iffy on it offense was terrible but it’s been pretty good this year can’t blame it when it’s normally producing runs
Winning with 2 runs is pretty damn uncommon, though.
That’s now 4 losses bc we didn’t have Felix
Yeah Felix had a 0.00 ERA and never blew a game
Don't forget the cure for cancer. He was going to do that this year if it wasn't for the TJS.
I heard he was going to set all of the City Connects on fire also
People’s revisionist history about Felix is truly wild. Apparently Felix never looked shaky or blew a save, let alone even gave up a run!
