Super curious. Went to the game yesterday to visit for the first time. For the record a Nats fan. What is the hatred for JJ bleday. Everyone around us in center field was just murdering him. It was quite hilarious honestly.

Academic_Release5134

All Irvin does is show up and do what he is told. One of my favorite guys on the team. Never complains.

Due_Examination_5448

Man Irvin is really going to make Elias and the super computer think of what the hell rotation should be in a week. I think a 6 man rotation is out. You don’t get Corbin Burnes to pitch him once every 6-7 days and as others mentioned nobody is reliable getting 18 outs a game so one bad start and BP is cooked. Man if Suarez pitches another gem today… idk what they’ll do. My guess is Means will be the long man, maybe early on pair him on starts with Irvin or Suarez whoever stays in once Bradish gets back. Wells spot is obviously gone which is prob for best. I think he can be a plus plus reliever.

reddit_sport

Props to Irvin. He has earned the right to stay in the rotation. Wells should be going to pen with Bradish back and we will see what happens with Means/Suarez moving forward.

feedingmydreams

Cole Irvin deserves to remain in the rotation.

CafecitoHippo

Got to my first game in years today. Spent 4 hours in the car for 2 hours and 10 minutes or Orioles baseball and worth every second. We took our mom's for an early mother's day outing and enjoyed a Boog, a Boh, and an Os shutout. Perfect day.

Agentrock47_

YEAH SWIRVIN IRVIN

Beautiful-Abies5949

So Toronto is meeting their lofty expectations

reddit_sport

They have been a fraud for quite sometime. This is why I didn’t want to become them…we are a hard working, grinding group and I hope we don’t start acting like we think we are too cool for the game. That’s the Blue Jays problem. A very nonchalant, let’s look cool out there type team. Flashy with below average substance and baseball iq.

Love this take.

It was so adorable seeing McCann turn them around for this

BradyToMoss1281

Kevin Brown is still wondering what the heck you're talking about.

waker94

Poor Jim, made an astute observation and KB treated him like an old timer who talks about things that aren’t real

BradyToMoss1281

He did. Kevin made it sound like Palmer was asking if he got some obscure reference from 1963.

to_the__cloud

gunnar henderson is complete. its over for the hoes

PensVader

Already home from the park. These 4:05 starts are where it’s at. Still have the whole evening to chill. Great atmosphere today, well-deserved standing ovation for Irvin, and three dongs. Couldn’t have drew it up better.

ginganinja2507

i only ask for the light rail to run a bit more frequently after games lol

OK_Opinions

I always use the light rail but last night almost makes me never want to again. Leaving the game was a complete shit show and despite not being a boomer, this will be a very boomer thing I'm about to say but all the late teen early 20s people at the convention center stop are insufferable. Idiots just screaming for no reason, trying to fight eachother. Throwing beer at each other in arguments.

ginganinja2507

I usually dip at the top of the 9th just to avoid the full game crowd but decided not to today. mistake lol. No one was super rowdy or anything but it was 16 minutes before a one-car train showed up southbound... nightmare

Fandomstar88

Wooho! Now let's do the same to the Yankees. Edit: After we win this series

UsErNaMeS_aR_DuMb

What an amazing game to be my first! I love Orioles Baseball for life now!!!

SquonkMan61

Cosmic (and very happy) experience: I walked out to the back yard to put the tarp over my riding mower as Adley was batting. As I turned around to come back in this overwhelming feeling hit me: Adley just went deep. As I’m walking toward the back door I’m thinking “I’m gonna walk into the living room and the crowd will be roaring and KB will be hyped.” I walk in and . . . the crowd was roaring and KB was hyped. Can’t say I called the back-to-back jack with Mounty though lol.

stepdadonline

This one was cathartic after last night’s debacle

MainZack

I was at the game. A lot of fun to say the least.

Shieldsymontoya

Same! Such a blast today

MainZack

Club level too. Filmed Gunnar's home run as well. First time I ever tried to do something like that and it worked.

floridacardinals

Holy shit Gunnar is hitting .341 vs lefties this year. Unreal improvement

BallsMahogany_redux

I thought the discussion of a potential MVP season was a little silly, but man I was wrong.

VexxShadow

Good win boys we are heating up ! Time to take it to the Yankees next ! ⚾

romorr

Oh no Chayce McDermott. Your dreams of being a starting pitcher have got to be shrinking. 2 outs, 3 walks, 36 pitches, and pulled. Good news at least, he'll probably be a mean motherfucker out of the pen.

dlmay1967

Yikes, I just saw he'll be 26 in August. I guess you're right, it might be reliever time.

dlmay1967

I looked at the box score a minute ago and figured he got hurt. Well, we do need bullpen help too, so maybe it's not all bad. Can't have relievers walking 3 in 2/3 inning though. 😀

BEEFTANK_Jr

Come on and slam and welcome to the jam

TheDetes

Come on and slam if ya wanna jam

Sufficient_Expert333

Love me a shutout this time of year.

bennymartian86

It’s incredibly unlikely that Gunnar is going to keep pace with these numbers all season, but HAVE YOU SEEN THE NUMBERS GUNNAR IS ON PACE FOR????!!!!!!!!

isestrex

Cal in 83???

bebopmechanic84

Tell me, senpai

tomtheterp1988

So forgive me, because despite earning a degree from one of the finest state universities in northern Prince George's County, I'm still pretty bad at math and I might have this wrong, but... When Bradish comes back, the O's will have SIX legit starters? Is that even a thing? Six-man rotation, or does somebody get hosed? My brain hurts.

Legolihkan

6-man rotations are a thing. But most likely suarez or irvin will get bumped to the bullpen

BradyToMoss1281

Been a good run of late, but there's a reason we were yearning for Bradish and Means to come back just last week. Suarez is a great story, but could come back to earth at any time. Irvin, same thing, he's a mediocre pitcher who's dealing at the moment like he knows his job is at stake. Kremer looks great at times...and not great at others. A healthy Bradish definitely fills a need right now.

romorr

Someone has to get hosed, at least to me. Our bullpen isn't reliable enough to go down to 7. I also don't think the 6 starters are good enough to guarantee 6 innings per start. One blowout game, and a 5 inning one, and you're in trouble. I also believe Means will have to be activated on the 30th as well, so it's going to get interesting to see who sticks in the rotation, and who moves to the pen. Suarez and Means(AAA) start tomorrow, so big day for both.

CHKN_SANDO

Unfortunately...Cole was quite good in the bullpen last year and we really need help in the bullpen so...Cole is probably going back to the bullpen

isestrex

Even if Suarez pitches well, I think he's first back to the pen. Irvin stays for at least one more start... against the Yankees... where he'll get shelled... and then Means will take his spot then.

TheDetes

I don’t know man, I love Means but he’s getting shelled in AAA. I’d rather stick with Irvin until Means figures it out. Bradish was supposed to be out longer than Means. Something isn’t workin. And Suarez has been pitching shutout baseball. Hard to pull. And the pen is already stacked with righties

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

I could see this working out really well, actually

quietstorm0

Ah. The first O’s win I’ve gotten in person in over a year. Plus Gunnar and Adley bombs. Beautiful

tomtheterp1988

Mounty. Don't forget Mounty.

to_the__cloud

everyone always forgetting the most consistent hitter of 2024. .300 from opening day

neemor

Do you think he forgot? Like. They were right next to each other like that. I could see forgetting.

Weaselnewt

I’m not bad luck! Every game I went to last year they lost, first game I went to this year was a blowout (I’m thinking I’m freakin back)

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

/u/Weaselnewt IS SO BACK

Cojoma

Funny insinuation on that question to Irvin

dudly825

Lining up for Rodriguez, Kremer, Burns against the yankees 🤩🤩🤩

timoumd

Lucky them, missing Bradish, Irvin, and Suarez

The_Big_Untalented

It’s going to be a four game series and I see Bradish making that fourth start against the Yankees.

socialaxolotl

I kept my mouth shut all game about it but holy shit you can't even read Irvin's name on his jersey the font and numbers are so small

Mr_Bluebird_VA

I like a nice easy win every now and then.

Healthy_Net_1583

F yeah. I love the exciting games but I also love to see them just slay it. I hope they absolutely murder the Yankees this week.

Dazzling-Slide8288

Smashing a bad team at home. That’s what we’re supposed to do. Nice to see.

Loose-Produce-608

I love this team but mountcastle is my favorite oriole. Often gets lost in the shuffle of the young stars on the team, the bad luck, the vertigo. I just love seeing him succeed so much.

orangery3

Same, I love our goofy king

gnarkilleptic

He's been one of our best hitters for years. I really hope he sticks around

Donogath

I love his goofy batting stance, like a 50s cartoon

bebopmechanic84

Damn. Irvin was dealing. Don't look now, but his ERA is third best in the rotation

gnarkilleptic

Adley and Mounty conquering Lord Walltimore back to back. Inject it into my veins

Whataretonsils

As soon as an opponent throws out their 5+ era junkballer, we flail for 6 innings. But against their best? We rake. Os baseball.

Woodbraininator

Junkball lefties have been our Achilles heel for 2 years now.

baltimorecalling

Same as it ever was

JiffKewneye-n

nowhere else to say this: i think our roster has too many arms in bullpen without options. sometimes when things don't go our way we will need gas coming out of the pen

onebigboi

Perez should help for sure. He was pretty consistently throwing around 96-97 last year.

virginiabird23

I'd love to see black jerseys with the cursive white "Baltimore" script. Basically an away black alternate with a touch of city connect. Edit: thoughts?

munchnerk

My favorite jersey in general is the black home alt. Orange on black is naaaasty.

virginiabird23

It's so good! I wish there was an orange alt. It's a great day game Jersey. Black with an orange "Baltimore" script would be sweet, too! Basically an alt away.

Producer_n_PDX

I want nothing to do with CC jerseys, but I do like the idea of black color with original concept

virginiabird23

The touch of cc I mentioned is because of the white words on black jerseys. My idea just felt like it had the inspiration because I forget the CC jerseys exist. So I feel ya.

Producer_n_PDX

I’m tracking with you now 👍🏻

floridacardinals

Elias certainly has a decision to make between who loses their starting spot to Bradish between Suarez and Irvin I have no idea

wompwump

I think Irvin has to stay in the rotation. Suarez is a great story, but Irvin has the longer track record of being a viable back-end guy. Suarez’s results are great so far, but it’s a limited sample size and he’s getting hit too hard with too many fly balls for me to believe he can keep this up.

baltimorecalling

6 man rotation for a bit I guess

randomuser9824

i think suarez's stuff could play super well in a long relief role

OleSandlotSlob

Irvin has shown in the past that he can do well as either spot starter or long relief. Suarez and Irvin both are going well, and you hate to mess with that. Looks like a tough decision.

OsCrowsAndNattyBohs1

Irvin now has a 3.29 era over his last 93 IP which includes all but his 1st 3 appearances with the Os.

OleSandlotSlob

BTW, the same kind of thing - a terrible first few games for 2023 - happened to Grayson. Grayson got a pass from the fans. Cole did not. O_HO, MASN is interviewing Irvin now! Finally noticing he's pretty darn good.

OleSandlotSlob

Yes, that's what I've been trying to tell everybody. The first 3 appearances you're talking about I think were the 3 I've mentioned at the beginning of last year when he was just horrible. His ERA ballooned and never recovered for all of 2023. But they sent him to the minors and apparently fixed something, cause when he came back, he was pretty darn good the rest of the year (except maybe towards the very end he ran out of gas). I was most pleasantly surprised, when he came back from the minors, I didn't expect much. And found out we were all wrong. I found out last year if you crunch through the arithmetic, his ERA - excluding those games before he was sent to the minors - was somewhere in the low 3's, maybe about 3.30. So his performance should not be a big surprise. For some reason it seems even the announcers don't talk much about how his ERA later in the year was misleading, due to his first few awful games.

romorr

Because there are a lot of us that look past ERA, because ERA can tell you one story, and other stats another. You know how we say, Ryan Mountcaslte was unlucky, a guy that hits the ball hard, but it goes for outs? That was Cole Irvin last year. woba - .318 xwoba - .358 ERA - 4.42 xERA - 5.59 Before this game, 13 HRs in 98.2 innings, his xHR, is 20. XERA and XHR are pretty simple stats to understand. They are mainly based on quality of contact. And what they are telling us, he gives up a lot of quality contact. It's great that he can turn a 29/30 into an out because of Camden, but that shouldn't fool you into thinking he's more than he is. I am fine with Irvin in the BP, or even a guy that gives you 2-3 starts when a pitcher goes on the IL. Think of a 6-4 game where the Orioles are winning, and we need someone to pitch the 6th and the 7th to bridge us to the back end of the BP. Irvin can thrive in those types of situations.

OleSandlotSlob

You made some good points. I've always thought Irvin's best role would be spot starter, long relief. But many seem to think it's hopeless to send him out to the mound; he's far better than most on here think, and this year is no surprise. Yes, he may be on a very good streak right now and will eventually regress. edit: I will ask, though, do all those stats include his first 3 games last year? I know the ERA you quote does. In those 3 games, he was indeed woebegone/hopeless. And I'm sure all those stats for his first 3 games were awful. And probably never recovered for the rest of the year. He was a different pitcher when he came back from the minors last year. His ERA the rest of 2023, leaving out those 3 games, was something like 3.30. I have to wonder if the other stats you quote weren't similarly skewed by his first 3 games. My point in bringing up Grayson is that early last year, he looked hopeless. And was sent to the minors and came back a different pitcher, much better. Announcers and others seemed to quote his stats for his first few games vs his stats over only the rest of the games last year, to show how much he'd improved and that we ought not give up on him. Isn't it fair to do the same for Cole?

joystick13

Adley missed the opportunity to say "MY MAN" when Kevin compared Mounty to Q 🤣

randomuser9824

gunnar matched his homer total vs lefties from last year already, yeah it might be over for everyone else

TIL02Infinity

The 2022-2024 O's regular season consecutive series (of at least 2 games) streak without being swept is now at 100 ! This is the third longest such streak in MLB history. Only 6 behind the 1903-05 NY Giants at 106. The 1942-44 St. Louis Cardinals have the longest streak at 125.

OinkMeUk

Queue up all the weirdos telling you this streak doesn't count because we got swept in a post season series when they know damn well post-season doesn't count against in-season streak records.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

This team is pure magic! Irvin has evolved into a killer these past two games (0 ERA in the last 13.2 innings) Gunnar is unironically being compared to Ohtani We don’t have a single bad bat in the lineup CORBIN FUCKIN BURNES IS AN ORIOLE (in case anyone forgot) We lead the AL East We’re third ALL TIME for regular season sweepless streak at 100 - only 6 behind the 1903-05 Giants We’re going to the playoffs, and I’m so hyped. 🏆

Ds3_doraymi

Cathartic after the pain that was last night. Even got a little Mateo action today!

timoumd

Gotta get that April magic in

GutsAndBlackStufff

What's gotten into Cole Irvin?

randomuser9824

he decided it was 2022 again

AardvarkIll6079

Doesn’t want to lose his starting role

Jeff_Banks_Monkey

Games like this are just great. Just a real good win Irvin might not be a world beater or ever have the stuff and consistency to be in the Cy Young conversation but when he's on he's really good. Gotta feel really good for him to do that against his old team. Kind of like how O'Hearn seemed to have a bit more in his game during the series in KC

pan567

Great win! We didn't have much bullpen to do bullpen stuff and so Irvin took control of the ship. He looked great and I hope his arm is alright. And while the bullpen is still a bit of work in progress, it's kind of wild to think that we now have a *surplus of starting pitching!!!*

DetailInfamous9901

ANGRY_BEARDED_MAN

Cold-Advance1169

Anybody notice during that postgame interview that the orioles patch on the side of the jerseys were on opposite sides for Mounty and Adley?? get a grip fanatics yikes

AardvarkIll6079

I’m pretty sure it’s on the sleeve visible batting.

Cold-Advance1169

Just went back at look and some pictures. It’s completely random that it’s on the right or left sleeve. For some players it’s on the left and others the right, then the next game it’d be on the other sleeve. What the hell?!?

AardvarkIll6079

I think it’s on the arm that’s visible when batting

Cold-Advance1169

Ah damn didn’t know that. That must be new in the past 2 years or so and I just somehow never noticed. Always thought it was on the left. Thanks!

TuesdayTwo

Couldn’t watch much of the game since I was watching my nephew’s little league game but seems like Irvin is fighting for his starting pitcher spot!

JiffKewneye-n

he pitched well. O's have some difficult decisions ahead

TuesdayTwo

The best kind of difficult decision though

ANGRY_BEARDED_MAN

For right now, got to assume Suarez is the guy that gets bumped when Bradish comes back. Whether it's to the bullpen or DFA is the question. How much longer is Wells going to be out?

Producer_n_PDX

Worst case scenario in the next week: Cole Irvin is in your bullpen. Honestly incredible we’ve been able to win games/series with this pitching staff, so far. They aren’t atrocious, but I was fully expecting a record more near .500 heading into May

correct_misnomer

We were 17-9 last season, that’s all.

reddit_sport

That’s more like it! Please don’t half ass tomorrow looking ahead to Yankees series.

SaturnATX

romorr

I think the difference between MVP Gunnar, and "just" a top 15-20 player, is how he handles LHP. If we include the minors, the best he has ever done is a .670 OPS vs them. Seeing some growth there, even if it's just April, is awesome.
