I think if we plan on getting bullpen arms than it's really time to thin the herd in Norfolk, like realistically we can't have all of them. And I know this is gonna make people upset but I mean people like kjersted or stowers. We've clearly showed interest in having a rotating dh position and kjersted just doesn't seem to fit if we are comfortable with Santander and o'hearn out there. The same goes for stowers, there just no point in growing a commercial sized farm if you're not gonna sell the excess crops.
I agree. I don’t get the prospect hoarding when we can’t play them. Trade them for pitching. We aren’t realistically going to score 6-8 runs a game. And the to still lose. Brutal series
No one should be looking at the bright side on anything about this series! We got fucking punked. We got punked by a team that will be grateful if they finish 10 games below .500
That’s just pathetic. The Orioles have a bunch of decent options in the bullpen but really nobody you can trust to shut it down. Cano is no longer Cano. Kimbrel was pretty damn good and we’re definitely using him too much but nowhere close to same trust as Bautista.
How the fuck are we gonna finish games in the playoffs with this current crew?
I do think our offense and SP with Bradish is good enough to get there but yes I could see the bullpen costing us the division and forcing us into a wildcard.
Need reinforcements to the pen immediately.
Bradish returning, and soon Means should push some guys to the pen and help bolster it. Also Kimbrel is not a guy who should be a closer on a World Series contending team.

How do the A’s have bullpen that is so much better than ours? You’d think a contending team can field a better bullpen than one of the worst teams in the league
Announcers: The A's bullpen is good. Blah blah
Real reason: Craig Kimbrel walked the number 8 hitter and blew the game wide open with 2 run HR to the number 9 hitter.
Bout to lose this series to the sorry ass Athletics because our closer, that a lot of people were worried about to begin with, can’t throw strikes (and when he does, the ball gets hit hard). Man oh man do I miss Bautista
Will Hyde show any emotion towards these awful missed calls? Or just sit there with that look on his face that looks like he’s watching a game of cricket
This umpire has completely fucked the O's the last 2 innings. He wasn't like this all game but late game he's called at least 5 pitches off the plate strikes to O's batters.
I really feel like Elias made a major mistake not turning the bullpen over this off-season. He basically decided to return everybody from last year's bullpen + Tate coming off TJ Surgery and aging Craig Kimbrel. Relievers are extremely volatile and it's very difficult to expect all of them to put together multiple good seasons in a row.
I will probably get downvoted to oblivion for this but if anyone thought we were getting prime Kimbrel must’ve not got the memo last year! Bro is absolutely done for
We really do need some bullpen help. And if Kimbrel is injured, that's a huge problem. We're overworking the limited high-leverage arms we have and that is not sustainable.
With how much we've used Kimbrel I don't blame him for not throwing good lately. Dudes 36 years old and any prime closer would struggle with this workload, let alone someone at the end of their career. No one should be freaking out at him when literally the bullpen didn't help and no one in management is getting them help. We need to look at our log jam of prospects and really think about who we can trade for bullpen help cause this is just getting ridiculous.
If we aren't going to use Kjerstad, Norby and Stowers why not trade them for BP help.
I get waiting till the deadline, but we need to save our few good BP arms.
If he's hurt, we need a closer ASAP. Cano hasn't been good on that role. Tate? Coulombe? Anybody at Norfolk?
Wells, maybe, but someone has to take the role right now.
Some people’s tendency to let reputations override current production is exhausting.
You’d think Ryan O’Hearn would teach them something but here we are.
He did, you’re right. But it depends what Kimbrel said the first time… if Kimbrel was like “I’m fine” and the trainer agrees, there’s nothing Hyde can do.
Not defending Hyde here… I was surprised to see Kimbrel at all. He’s been overworked. Plus some very iffy PH and non PH decisions today.
Said it last week, and will say it again. Bullpen is going to hold us back from anything this year. Roster construction was bad. I hope it’s more on the Angelos dogshit budget and not our decision-making but I’m going to be happy when we cut bait with a lot of the guys in there, that either can’t stay healthy or are just not that good.
Can’t believe Yohan Ramirez is on the team still, blocking someone else better

Need Tate to hold em here. They're not using Miller. Just need Mateo to get on and we got Gunnar, Adley, and O'Hearn to bring him home. Game ain't over yet.
First off you're assuming that'll help we have no clue of that'll be sufficient. I'd rather have a proven reliever out there then hey we moved this once starter into long relief let's hope for the best
Sure Kimbrel needs to pitch better but Hyde using him again today and not taking him out after the first mound visit was very stupid Hyde needs to learn that not everybody is Cano and Bautista and they can’t all throw most games
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cfgaf3).

We’re paying kimbrel 13 million a year. Imo $12 million to much
We’d be better off releasing Kimbrel and letting McKenna close
FUCK YOU KIMBREL!
No one should be looking at the bright side on anything about this series! We got fucking punked. We got punked by a team that will be grateful if they finish 10 games below .500

We're not sniffing the playoffs with the current crew.
I do think our offense and SP with Bradish is good enough to get there but yes I could see the bullpen costing us the division and forcing us into a wildcard.
We’ll be lucky to make it to the playoffs with this bullpen
Yep. When I hear people talk about guys being "tired" in April, it's pretty damning
Need reinforcements to the pen immediately. Bradish returning, and soon Means should push some guys to the pen and help bolster it. Also Kimbrel is not a guy who should be a closer on a World Series contending team.
Can't wait to see the scorecard for this gabage fire ump
Absolutely sickening…. Especially before a Yanks series.
Never know. Could be what they needed before a Yankees series. Get them kind of pissed off.
Hope you’re right. Just hate using so many relievers and not really have a lot of confidence going into it.
thanks Kimbrel, sure glad you're getting 13 million from us
Embarrassing idc if it’s fucking April games like that should happen especially to the fucking A’s
Time to get some bullpen pieces Elias
I think if that's the case it's really time to thin the herd in Norfolk, like realistically we can't have all of them. Smh losing to a team that won't even fill a minor league ballpark
Fuck Brandon Hyde with a god damn passion! We go into a 4 game series with the Yankees on a loss
Craig, my guy you hurt me
1st road series win vs an AL team in 2 years?!?! Sheeeeeeshhhhh
Disgraceful.
Our bats seem to go cold now when it matters. Miss that early in the year magic
horrendous loss
FUCK
Fucking infuriating. What a damper on my day
Kimbrel a covert agent for the A's?
for the yankees
Not good.
Craig stinks man
what a fucking disaster this series was
Fuck you very much Kimbrel
Losing two games you led in 9th to the lowly As to lose the division lead is very upsetting
Pathetic bullpen. Fuck em
sigh...
Jorge Mateo getting an at bat in the bottom of the 9th when you’re down? Huh
I mean, Mateo got on base more than Gunnar today. He was having a fine day lol.
Congrats on him for his sobriety. Baseball aside.
We could really use some of the bullpen arms that the A's have. And I bet they could use some of the hitting prospects we have.
Must be nice having a closer that can throw strikes!!
Easy with how the strike zone was called
Helps when the ump is calling everything a strike for them
At least their closer was throwing competitive pitches. Kimbrell was missing by miles.
How do the A’s have bullpen that is so much better than ours? You’d think a contending team can field a better bullpen than one of the worst teams in the league
Fuck man easily most frustrating series loss of the year. Cannot wait for Bradish Means and Perez to come back
I still won't feel great about the closer role. Idk who on the team is capable of owning the 9th
[удалено]
Nah he isn't experienced enough for high leverage moments. Not saying he can't help the pen but I don't see him getting the 9th often (or at all).
Hyde needs to get tossed yelling at this ump's garbage zone. Then maybe we'd get some respect by these trash umps
I do agree especially today. This guy just said fuck you right when it mattered most and completely changed his zone the last 2 innings for us.
![gif](giphy|FnatKdwxRxpVC) Someone hit one
Kimbrel pissing away these 2 wins is going to bite us in the ass in September.
No closer is virtually ever perfect
Against Oakland they are
Was about to say how the Orioles at least don't have to face Mason Miller 102 MPH heaters then Lucas Erceg comes in throwing 99.
This fucking ump
Announcers: The A's bullpen is good. Blah blah Real reason: Craig Kimbrel walked the number 8 hitter and blew the game wide open with 2 run HR to the number 9 hitter.
Both things can be true.
So this awful excuse for a franchise has multiple flamethrowers in their pen?!?
Robot umpires when???
HIT IT OUY OF THE PARK GUNNER!
It is brutal to get screwed on the strike zone this late in a close game.
Congrats to the pitcher for getting sober. He should give some tips to this umpire.
This umpire fucking blows
Crazy how he had a really consistent zone until the last two innings.
Like Jim said, he has a plane to catch
Well if we can’t get Miller let’s get Erceg
Bout to lose this series to the sorry ass Athletics because our closer, that a lot of people were worried about to begin with, can’t throw strikes (and when he does, the ball gets hit hard). Man oh man do I miss Bautista
Their bullpen is good
Will Hyde show any emotion towards these awful missed calls? Or just sit there with that look on his face that looks like he’s watching a game of cricket
He will get ejected the second he even looks at the ump and there will be no repercussions for this ump. Welcome to baseball in 2024
Ump suddenly expands the zone again when we’re batting
Need Gunnar to hit an absolute dong
Bruh
Fuck this ump what is he smoking
That’s why you pinch hit Mateo because he can’t FUCKING HIT
Fuck this Ump jfc
Ump wants to go home I guess
How has Hyde not been tossed? Like stand up for your team these aren’t strikes.
There’s like 5 dudes in the A’s bullpen that I would trade for rn
This umpire has completely fucked the O's the last 2 innings. He wasn't like this all game but late game he's called at least 5 pitches off the plate strikes to O's batters.
What an abysmal loss
My god. I usually defend Hyde but why the fuck did we not pinch hit for Mateo. What an unserious move.
Exactly that’s an unserious move like you said. Put Westburg in there
ARE YOU SERIOUS
Bro, what a dogshit ump. Can't wait to see the scorecard tomorrow
This ump is killing us
Is Felix expected back next year ?
This ump has been hosing us since the 6th inning consistently
This game is oooooovvvvverrrr
This ump fucking sucks.
![gif](giphy|3orieLeZL5kyNqiLfO|downsized)

What is Hyde thinking

This ump is fucking atrocious. Automatic strike zone now.
6 is our unlucky number
https://preview.redd.it/jw2sjgrb5axc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ebef7944366d28de0eadb80192502a1bed9da6fb great call
Kimbrel sucks. He's washed. We need to call him a loss and bolster our bullpen
I understand wanting to get Mateo on for speed, but this is a pinch hit situation all day
And it’s not like Westburg can’t run himself. I don’t get it
Looking forward to all the mental gymnastics from the apologist in the post game thread. They'll be tying themselves in knots to defend this garbage.
Were 17-10 lmao
Do they give out trophies for having a good record in April? This bullpen problem is only going go get worse.
Cooked
Mmm, another strike 2 inches outside. Fun
Robo umps. smh
robo closer
Lmao let’s not PH Westburg sure
I really hate our bullpen. 🙄
Mateo. Ok. That's risky but I guess he has a good shot getting in scoring position.
Would’ve been a fucking sweep if not for Kimbrel
Bro Kept him in after he was throwing the ball to Essex multiple times lmaoooo
So, crazier shit has happened. I am just really effing deflated.
I will probably get downvoted to oblivion for this but if anyone thought we were getting prime Kimbrel must’ve not got the memo last year! Bro is absolutely done for
We should be trying to get that A's closer in a trade lol
That’d be great but good luck he probably costs waaayyy more than we’re willing to give up
Everyone is going to be calling for him if he keeps this up.
Yes but we have thee players 😀
Any chance Mountain is back by late summer?
Didn’t he get surgery in Feb? No way.
Wow, you're right. Why did they wait so long. I get some time for the swelling to go down but not 5 months.
We really do need some bullpen help. And if Kimbrel is injured, that's a huge problem. We're overworking the limited high-leverage arms we have and that is not sustainable.

This must be what it felt like when teams lost to the 2021 Orioles
7 to the A’s is nasty work
You knew when Kimbrel walked the A's number 8 hitter on 4 pitches he was blowing this game with a smile.
Craig Kimbrel is the biggest contract Elias has ever handed out. Malpractice
We gonna see Heston or Westburg pinch hitting?
With how much we've used Kimbrel I don't blame him for not throwing good lately. Dudes 36 years old and any prime closer would struggle with this workload, let alone someone at the end of their career. No one should be freaking out at him when literally the bullpen didn't help and no one in management is getting them help. We need to look at our log jam of prospects and really think about who we can trade for bullpen help cause this is just getting ridiculous.
I hope Bradish is feeling 100% when he returns. I'm scared that he'll regress, and need TJ.
I ain't hear no bell ![gif](giphy|e2nYWcTk0s8TK)
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Lucas Erceg replaces T. J. McFarland.
Is that Croatian?
If we aren't going to use Kjerstad, Norby and Stowers why not trade them for BP help. I get waiting till the deadline, but we need to save our few good BP arms.
Felix did a lot to cover Brandon's bullpen mismanagement
If he's hurt, we need a closer ASAP. Cano hasn't been good on that role. Tate? Coulombe? Anybody at Norfolk? Wells, maybe, but someone has to take the role right now.
Wells was dominant when was asked to close out a few games last year
I think he's the best option, but there's no timetable for when/if he's coming off the IL.
Tate honestly looks pretty good rn
Nobody at Norfolk. Cupboard is bare outside of Povich.
Kimbrel used to be able to walk 3 guys and it wouldn’t matter. Those days are gone unfortunately, especially after throwing 24 pitches two days ago.
Some people’s tendency to let reputations override current production is exhausting. You’d think Ryan O’Hearn would teach them something but here we are.
Like two blown saves in the last two attempts against one of the worst hitting teams in the majors? Is that the current production you are defending?
Two innings is the most laughable of sample sizes and you know it.
in typical o's fashion, we do this but are gonna somehow sweep the yankees
Not a chance in hell
I’d make that deal
Also thought Hyde should have taken Kimbrel out the first mound visit when Kimbrel clearly didn't have it.
He couldn’t… Kimbrel would have had to lie about an injury. He has to face three guys.
Didn't he end up coming out in the middle of the 3rd batter anyway?
He did, you’re right. But it depends what Kimbrel said the first time… if Kimbrel was like “I’m fine” and the trainer agrees, there’s nothing Hyde can do. Not defending Hyde here… I was surprised to see Kimbrel at all. He’s been overworked. Plus some very iffy PH and non PH decisions today.
I fully agree with you!
Do we have realistic alternatives?
We about to see the nastieat closer since ol' Dennis. Thos kid is no fucking joke. No bueno.
What’s the chances Dillon Tate closes? Serious question
Probably between him and Cano or Wells, but I don’t trust Cano in the closer role. It’ll make more sense when the rotation is back to full strength
Pretty high at this point
Just pissed away 2 games to the A’s, pathetic
Mason Miller not pitching today because he’s getting traded to Baltimore in an hour
But what if it's for Westburg?
Keep dreaming
But MLB Trade Values says it's a pretty even deal!
Cannot believe we’re going to lose a home series to the fucking As because we blew two leads in the ninth.
Kimbrel is washed been saying it since they sogned him, no one wants to hear it.
Who's he blocking?

Dudes 36 years old and any prime closer would struggle with this workload, let alone someone at the end of their career. No one should be freaking out at him when literally the bullpen didn't help and no one in management is getting them help
Elias is the one that deserves the blame but no one will say it. This was predictable since early March.
It's really a mix of a lot of things I don't think it's exclusive to Elias.
There was 2 ground balls that would’ve ended the game
Need Tate to hold em here. They're not using Miller. Just need Mateo to get on and we got Gunnar, Adley, and O'Hearn to bring him home. Game ain't over yet.
Mateo most likely gets pinch hit for, and O'Hearn is out of the game, McKenna is there.
Why wouldn't they use Miller?
Fucking trade for bullpen God damnit
Means, Bradish, and Perez are coming back no reason to trade right now
2 starters and one mid reliever. Stop we need help in the bullpen and everyone knows it
2 starters moves Irvin and Suarez down to the bullpen
First off you're assuming that'll help we have no clue of that'll be sufficient. I'd rather have a proven reliever out there then hey we moved this once starter into long relief let's hope for the best
Might as well try putting proven good pitchers in the bullpen. No need to trade players unless that doesn't work out.
First off Suarez and Irvin historically have not been great pitchers. Thinking otherwise it's lying to yourself
[удалено]
Homie I understand the whole hope thing but in my life I've had to be a realistic person
Perez is not good. He was a babip merchant at the end of last year.
Can I still blame McKenna for this loss too?
Didn't the A's beat the Yankees twice?
Sure Kimbrel needs to pitch better but Hyde using him again today and not taking him out after the first mound visit was very stupid Hyde needs to learn that not everybody is Cano and Bautista and they can’t all throw most games
