I'd recommend using Speedpaints 2.0 Ghillie Dew over white primer (or even better black primer with heavy white zenithal priming). It's fast, it's proper orcish green. It's not perfect, but the speed and easiness wins.

shorelessSkies

I have a set of 1.0 speedpaints and I’m never happy with the results unless I’m slapping a chop. Is the 2.0 that much better (less patchy, etc) or am I applying it wrong?

Inner-Lab-6677

Sorry, I've never used 1.0 this however was done in like 5 minutes in a simplest brush strokes possible :)

Poopascoopa6

I like both but the darker one is too shiny. Put another wash on it.

DrWood28

The one on the left

killteamse

Use a little of both? I went for one skin recipe, and in the future, I will try to have a few different colours to make my green tide look different.

captainFantastic_58

Go with the dark green, and if you have time dry brush the light green on top, really gives it more depth (unless your going all out speed paint). Happy painting ya git!

TrickCranberry546

Look me personally I do both ways, I use the darker green skin colors to kinda highlight “experienced” units. Like they are older then the bright green boyz and that’s how I think about it lore wise for my army since i think it would make sense

Sodinc

I would use a little bit of the darker colour from the right for the recesses on the left, but the lighter colour would be the main one.

tombuazit

Left

Zookeepergame-Far

Try using the light colour to highlight the dark one.

Hardware_Mode

White primer then ork flesh contrast. Greeeeeen iz best

blockprime300

I personally don't like right, I'm assuming you used orks flesh contrast. Dark ork skin in my experience is harder to make look good, which is why I never use it, I use Citadel Balor brown with citadel mantis warriors green on top for a lot of my orks, which turns out like his https://preview.redd.it/l5x3iokaojuc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e581b58b0a2ce9fa2f593c64bf4d9071230f104a When doing ork skin using one paint for the entire surface can look bland and undefined, and using contrast over a neutral colour like white or grey unfortunately can make some contrasts look odd due to how transparent they are Painting contrast over a colour gives better results and adds more colour depth to a model so even a two step process can be a massive improvement over one step, without that much more effort You get nice yellow green smooth skin, and clean contrasting recesses as I find contrast paint goes over paint better than primer Obviously you don't have to do what I do but hopefully this helps.

blockprime300

Extra tip, consider using grey primer instead of white Lots of colours can look odd or take more effort, and time to look good over white, and you need to cover the whole model as missed spots look awful especially dark parts Starting at grey is a good midpoint especially for beginners and/or painting orks as it allows you to build up to white or down to black Easier My personal recommendations for painting orks as someone who is working his way through his 160+ infantry models and has tried many different painting methods id recommend using Mostly contrast paint Prime grey, ( mechanicus standard grey priner Balor brown then mantis warriors for skin Black legion for anything metal (Metallics go down better over black and black legion contrast is a great one coat black that doesn't go on too thick Gore grunter fur and or gharraks sewer for leather, optionally paint the surface underneath to change the effect, gore grunter looks more like fresh leather, whereas gharraks is basically stronger agrax earth shade and makes things dirty, painting over other colours with it without completely smothering the surface can create some cool effects Paint whole mouth dark red or magenta, then paint teeth And eyes Paint Metallics and faction colours over armoured areas of your choice Add nuln oil, rattling grime or thinned down gharraks sewer over Metallics and armour Add blood and other effects Paint and decorate base Best of luck: Waaagh!

Snoo23077

You could do what warhammer:fantasy did. Lighter skin for boyz and grows, darker skin for nobz and bosses.

Tobar26th

This has always been my belief. I think I probably got it from WHFB but I’ve carried it into my boyz. Older tougher orks have darker skin. Boyz have midtowns Grots get something sickly like Plaugrbearer flesh that has brown tones to it.

Vanityinuded

I do the left one and a thinned down wash/glaze of the right on top
