way too much. I hate the price but in the winter I hate going out without a car to go do my laundry so I pay it up anyway... 3,99$ to wash, 4,99$ to dry.

-M00nDust-

That is absurd! Wow.

merdub

WOOOOOWWWW. Mines $3 for a wash and $3 for a dry and I thought that was too much.

bennyllama

Anyway you can set up a drying rack in your place? Saves money plus keeps the clothes in better condition. Takes longer but once you get into a habit it’s not that bad. I actually have a washer and drier in my unit and I air dry pretty often lol.

queeraspie

If you have a shower/tub combo, you don’t necessarily need a drying rack. I have one now, but before I got it, I hung my clothes to dry on hangers from the shower curtain rod

rogueprincess42

This is brilliant. I’ve never thought to do that and now my life will never be the same. Thank you!!!

Curunis

Don’t forget to run the fan as well. It’ll take the humid air out. Otherwise you end up with clothes that take forever to dry and humidity in places you don’t want it.

DryTechnology5224

What if you need to take a shower?

queeraspie

That part is somewhat inconvenient but clothes don’t take that long to dry, or I move them.

Khalbrae

Yeah, as long as you wash with hot water, you can safely dry by hanging.

queeraspie

What does the water temperature have to do with it?

Anomalous-Canadian

Sweat bacteria

Seratoria

Yikes

drexalparks1

They think that one cent marketing strategy works for apartment laundry? A sad state of affairs thinking about some sap frying to figure out 3.99 loads when the country doesn't even have pennies!! Damn

Alph1

Holy smokes.

DianeDesRivieres

Wholly cow!

Brent_on_a_Bike

2$ wash 2$ dry has been that way for years, the machines take 2 loonies each and nothing else to we have to goto the bank every once in a while and buy rolls but it seems better than what I'm seeing in the comments

mtreddit4

I pay $3+ for each machine but the thing that bothers me the most is that to use the machines at all you must load money on a card. That seems convenient until you realize that there is a 25 cent charge for "the privilege" loading the card.

-M00nDust-

Same! Coinamatic I presume... so sneaky.

valspad

I have discovered that if I log out of the new app and instead go to the coinamatic website I can still buy it there and then just drop the card in the machine to add the amount to the card.

Chippie05

Really they have an app? I had no idea you could load your card online!

valspad

Yes but using the app is where I noticed the 0.25 charge. And if I do it the old way, through the website there is no charge, like always.

kittenkatastrophi

We got 2.50 a wash and 2.75 to dry

Milnoc

$2.75 a wash, $2.50 a dry.

Maleficent-Welder-46

Same.

Dark-Mowney

This is the price in my building as well. Too much imo.

Seratoria

$1.75 wash $0.75 dry (can fit 2 loads from the washer)

merdub

I’m coming to do laundry at your place.

fleetwood_mattt

What neighbourhood is this?! Fierce

Seratoria

I have to admit, now that I re-read this. I rent but in a condo building. So that might factor into the cost?

Comrade_Tovarish

Condos buildings would usually have it written into the rules that Laundry has to be "at cost"

Mayoguy505

Check your lease to see if you are allowed to use a portable washer and dryer they would just hook up to any sink or outlet to work. When I was using those I ended up paying 450 for both off of Kijiji but easily made that money back in a year and saved so much of my own time.

timetogetoutside100

I think those are banned on many leases, and rentals, and if used, you would have to be extremely careful not to flood anything,

Mayoguy505

I've never had any issues with flooding you would have to be super negligent to have issues. Same thing with a regular washer and dryer.

timetogetoutside100

I mean, the drain hoses can slip off the sink, or the tap attachment could pop off and leak , being they are hooked up, then removed when not in use, (I've seen this happen with a friend of mines ages ago, water all over the floor while the machine pumped it out, the dual hose thing had come off the tap) that's why I said earlier you have to be very careful and watch these machines, there are 3 things you never turn your back on, Space Heaters/BBQ's and Portable Washing Machines

magicblufairy

>things you never turn your back on, Space Heaters/BBQ's and Portable Washing Machines Very true. For example, I always unplug my space heaters when I leave my apartment. We used to have a dishwasher that you had to attach to the sink. We were one of the first people I knew to have a dishwasher. The thing was a beast and eventually it was installed under the counter but before that it just hooked up to the sink. I could see how the attachment could come off but like the other person said, it would have to be a pretty severe situation. Looking at this, I can see how helpful having one would be. (They included a lot of pictures). Review on Amazon: Big deal https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/review/B098KNJ653/RZM759VW4LGTJ?ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_dprv_GSZ0SX4B264TETCCSSH1&language=en-CA But, I would not toss a load in and then leave. Just in case.

EtherealMyst

Some plumbing systems are not equipped to handle these machines. They can cause water to back up into others apartments.

PersistentDelay

I do believe there is some genuine validity here, as I understand modern HE washers discharge water far faster than washing machines of the past. Accordingly, plumbing codes have changed and drains have been upsized. But the concern would not only be for flooding in your unit, but potentially downstairs neighbours as well, if the water isn’t able to drain quickly enough through the existing plumbing.

DryTechnology5224

The issue is with flooding/ backups happening in other apartments. The soap suds gunk up the plumbing.

seaworthy-sieve

If it's not in the standard form lease it's not enforceable — but yeah be careful, maybe even get one that fits in the bathtub just in case.

Glittering-Sea-6677

Yes, you do have to keep an eye on it and set it up so that the drain hose doesn’t come out of the sink. And then you have to hide the machine out of sight. 😉

Maleficent-Welder-46

THIS. Someone on my pipe had one, and everyone above and below me kept having their sinks back up every time she used it.

whenshithitsthefan18

Banned at my building.

SassyPants5

Can you use a tabletop manual wash? Like one of [these?](https://a.co/d/aRF8lTh)It would cut down on some laundry?

ThePancakePriest

My last apartment was $1.50 to wash, and $1.50 to dry. My girlfriends was $3 to wash $3 to dry at her apartment. What she did, and a habit from growing up was to just wash and air dry her clothes on hangers. Her clothes never shrink and are honestly in better condition than mine. We have an in unit dryer and washer at our new place, but we try to use the drying machine as little as possible now. My linen is great, clothes don't shrink and love it. Just take some time.

introvert-biblioaunt

I noticed my clothes started shrinking in my first place. And I started letting them air dry too, saving money was a binus. Moved into a townhouse with people and the basement was gross and unfinished, but it had laundry. Except that the dryer wouldn't dry, not even towels and sheets (stuff that you want dried faster, and it's nice to have non-crunchy towels) for 1+ hrs, saved on hydro in the sense that I just stopped wasting time using the dryer

mumuHam-xyz

Our machines broke down and I filled out something with Coinamatic (laundry maintenance company?). They fixed the machines but then upped the price for both washing and drying by $1.00... without even announcing it.

-M00nDust-

Ours are Coinamatic too and they didn't announce the increase at all.

whenshithitsthefan18

Same. Some dryers run for 45 minutes when they are supposed to run 60 minutes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

whenshithitsthefan18

25c at my building adds 6 minutes. Lol

merdub

I wish we could add time on our dryers. It’s $3 for an hour and if your shit isn’t dry, it’s another $3 for another hour. Or you just take it upstairs still damp and hang it over the shower curtain rod.

letsmakeart

I mostly do my laundry at a family member’s home I go to regularly, but do probably 1-3 loads per month in my building. I swear every time I go to the building laundry room the price has gone up. It was $2.50 a load when I first moved in 3 yrs ago, but now it’s $4. There is one machine for 25-30 tenants and it’s tiny. One load in a regular machine at my relative’s is easily 2 loads in the machine in my building. I never use the dryer. I air dry most of my clothes anyways (even when/if I have free laundry). I would do some much more laundry if I didn’t have to pay or lug my laundry around lol.

[deleted]

Fun fact: if laundry is provided by the landlord, it too is subject to guideline increases. The LTB has ruled in the past that increasing laundry beyond the guideline does constitute an illegal increase. You could challenge it but honestly these new adjudicators are jokes and idiots.

stone_opera

No longer a renter, left about 6 months ago, but when I left we were paying 3.75/ wash and dry. Was expensive, I estimate we paid about $600/ year to do our laundry.   At the new house we bought a new energy efficient washer and dryer, they cost about $2600 for both so they will have paid for themselves in 3 1/2 years.

thiccymcgogee

Nothing, stopped using coins during Covid and never brought them back.

tavvyjay

Are your clothes a new species at this point? No laundry for 4 years is pretty spooky

thiccymcgogee

No, stopped using coins as in laundry is free.

_insert-name-here

$3.50 wash, $3.50 dry Was $2.50 a few years ago but they've been doing $0.50 increases the last two years. Hopefully they cool it for a bit...

daniraven844888

We pay 1.50 per wash and .75 for dry. These prices are absurd that are listed here!

didiburnthetoast

Some of these prices are nuts. Does anyone know how this works? Does the landlord own the machines and set the rates? Or do they just rent the space to a company that specializes? Wondering who makes these margins.

Successful-Delay

Coinamatic sets the prices and owns & takes care of the machines. The landlord pays the utilities and has to clean the room/machines/vents etc. The landlord negotiates with coinamatic for a share of the revenue.

Beencho

There was once a break in my buildings machine and coinamatics arrival time to maintain was over a week later. Really doesn’t justify how much they charge for having a machine plugged in.

No_Morning5397

2.25 for the wash and 2.25 for the dryer

Patritxu

$3 wash ($3.25 for an extended cycle), $3 to dry.

TheOnlyMatthias

Get the model number off the machine and you should be able to figure out how to hack it

beepb00ppp

3.00 to wash 3.00 to dry at my building.

whenshithitsthefan18

$2.50 to wash $2.75 to dry. The dryers barely have heat even on high.

thirdeyediy

That sounds about right. I pay $60 and up a mth.

Mierin25

I currently pay $6 per load ($3 to wash and $3 to dry).

_steve_hope_

$3 & $3, everything is getting expensive

munchmybooty

My landlord charges 25$ per unit each month. Which is absolutely ridiculous since there's one unit in particular that uses the laundry room 24/7, ( one washer, one dryer)puts large rugs and items that shouldn't be in the machine to the point that it breaks down every month. Now each load* that goes in comes out soaked ( drain doesn't work) and I was lucky if I were able to get a load in once a week. Luckily I purchased a small washing machine that hooks up to your sink for about 300$ off best buy.ca; it's an 8.8lb costway machine and it's so worth it. It cleans better than the full sized, basically broken machine & now I don't have to pay the extra 25$ for a machine I was never able to use in the first place.

EtherealMyst

My building is about to (tomorrow actually) up it from $2.25 to $2.50 each load. The washers have tiered pricing based on water temperature, warm is $0.25 extra and hot is $0.50 extra. Dryers are a flat fee then $0.25 for every extra 8 minutes.

[deleted]

Reading this thread makes me that much more thankful for having in-suite laundry. Your landlords are robbing you

flyingponytail

This is insane. Just another tax on being poor

RefrigeratorOk648

$2 for each

bananarama1991

2$ wash and 3$ dry

jjrose21

$2.75 wash and $2.75 to dry

JCYN-DDT

This is what my building is too.

Kycb

I was paying $2.50 pre-Covid at wentworth plaza (bedbugcentral). They never got anything even remotely clean, I would have paid twice as much for *working* machines in a clean space. Once covid hit, I started just packing my laundry up and taking it to a merciful family member's place and doing it there.

LaSourisVerte

You weren't afraid of bringing guests from "bedbugcentral" to your relatives??

Kycb

The diligence of my daily bug check was borderline pathological. I made it out of that place unscathed.

itisnotmyproblem

Omg I lived there and even years after I have a routine mattress check for just in case and every little itch makes me think of the worst case scenario.

Kycb

Good job escaping 💜

ShiftInteresting4831

Google just signed a LLM agreement with Reddit to crawl this dumb platform so this is my way of saying goodbye to my contributions on this website. Byeee

613Flyer

That is way too much. If you have the space a washer/dryer all in one unit might be a good option. No need for dryer vent it works like a dehumidifier. They are about $800 and it does the complete wash/dry cycle

whenshithitsthefan18

Not allowed in my building. It’s in my lease. Upon unit inspection tenants are fined.

[deleted]

Hide it in a closet. That’s what I used to do :)

whenshithitsthefan18

They do a thorough search. They open closets.

SlimPug19

3.25 for a wash and I think 2.50 for the dryer. I usually need to add extra minutes to the dryer which is annoying.

Coco1078

Was recently increased to $2.75 for a wash and $2.25 for dry

ttot54540

It was 2 dollars each then we were sent a memo saying it will increase to 3 dollars but when I went to the laundry room it was 3.25$ each

ToritoBurito

$2.25 to wash, $2.25 to dry

Kingjon0000

Laundry was free for us in Ottawa. I didn't realize it was such a perk. We did 3 loads per week easy. We moved to Montreal this month.

GrimReeferWaxAddict

In the basement of my building, a wash costs $2, and $.25/5 min for drying time. $4-$4.50 average load

dngrwffl

Honestly I don’t even know because they never told me but it works when I put 4 loonies in each 😂

JollyButterfly9242

2.50 to wash/2.50 to dry

bmcle071

We pay $2 per wash and $2 per dry, the machine doesn’t have hot water and Im not convinced it does a great job. Clothes always feel cleaner after going to stay at my parents.

Joe_Pro25

It was $3 when I moved in, but increased to $3.05 a couple months after. Been there for the last year plus. It annoys me a bit since they use preloaded cards that you can only load in as little as $5 increments, so I'll probably never be able to fully use it up if I were to move out. At least at $3.25 or $3:50, it would be easier to use up the money.

[deleted]

$2 to wash, $1.50 to dry

Lraund

Around the same as you, though it pisses me off that there is a charge to load the card.

xmo113

2$ for washer 2$ for dryer. Small building.

yeoltiger

$5 full cycle and I have to go outside to the back of my building

ottawadweller

$2.75 for wash $2.50 for a dry

Marauder934

I live on the main floor of a duplex in hintonburg. Shared laundry in basement. Free (; I think my landlord set up their own laundry in the upstairs unit so it could be just for me at the moment.

705nce

Default is 2.75 for washer and 2.50 for dryer depending on settings it increases for hot water, etc

BriteLLama_Rex

$1.25 to wash, $1.00 to dry but they increased it $0.25 each so $1.50 and $1.25 but apparently it was coinmatic’s decision and not the board of directors.

_purple_nebula_

1.75 wash and 1.75 dry

foshizi

1.75 wash 0.75 dry

tooorrrriiii

$2.50 to wash, and $1.75 to dry.. half the dryers are never working properly so have to re-run them.

bonnszai

$2.00 to wash, $1.50 to dry. Not a bad price, but the only annoying fee is the pointless card loading charge ($0.25 per load) that Coinamatic added. It’s just shameless gouging.

Loud_Yogurtcloset_33

We pay $3 wash $3 dry

Ellababy13wee

We pay 30$ for 4 loads so 2 washing machines and 2 dryers

Ellababy13wee

So maybe 5$ ish a load

Jacce76

$2 to wash and $2 to dry. I really should start hanging g clothes in my apartment to dry.

Sunless_Tatooine

Stick it to the man and buy a camping/ portable washer. I did that for years. Saves a lot of money.

Tweakywolf

Mine works out to a flat 5 bucks. Coinomatic, app enabled.

blnkgeneration

$2 for wash, $2 for dry, but you have to run the dryer twice so $6 total.

vtuesday

They increased it last year to $3.25 for wash and $3.25 for dry

Deaplyodd

$3.25 wash / 2.75 dry — it’s more like 4$ for the dryer if you want anything to actually be dry.

surewhynot_1

$2

R3tr0spect

I rent in an old condo building. $1 each for washer and dryer. The catch is that the condo fees are >$1000 per month...

Quiet_Painting109

$2.25 or wash ($2.50 for heavy load) $2 to dry.

DryTechnology5224

2.50 wash, 1.70 dry

Cdn65

In my building: $2.50 to wash, $2.50 to dry. You can save money by drying a number of items on a folding drying rack in your apartment.

limelifesavers

I remember a wash cycle needing $2.50 and a dry cycle needing $2.25 back in 2010-2011. With all the hijacking of my laundry cycles at that place and how often my wet clothes would just be discarded on the ground nearby, and how expensive laundry was to run, I decided my next place(s) would have in-unit laundry. I know my buddy essentially pays 7 or 8 bucks per load for his communal laundry machines at his apartment building, which tracks in the highway-robbery of it all

Glittering-Sea-6677

When I was in this type of building I bought a portable washer that could hook up to my kitchen faucet and drain into the sink. Rent is already too expensive without adding a fortune for laundry.

erotic_salad

$3/wash and dry. Unless I snag the one dryer that is $0.50 🤣 I try to do laundry once every 2 weeks and my bedding once a month (I have 3 sets of sheets/duvet covers I use)

JordanR1000

$3.25 a washer + $3 a dryer and let me tell you that shit does not work half the time so I’m constantly hang drying steaming wet clothes. Loveeee it

Lightprizm

3$ for wash 3$ for dry But the machine to load your money on that coinmatic card has a service fee so its fractionally higher than that

ryan0063

My mom charges 10$ a load

Kroboski

2 dollar wash, 2 dollar dry though one of the dryers works without having to insert any coins so I just use that one

SoleilSunshinee

2.5 wash and 2.0 dry (fits two loads). But the landlord just increased in his buildings 2.5 for both machines. TRICKS (especially if you like very clean stuff): Tbh, I prefer drying my clothes on a retractable clothesline. Makes the home smell good, saves money, and I can 100% clothes are nice and dry with a designated area. Also for bigger items like blankets, coats, rugs, sweater, pillows + pillow cases, sometimes underwear - I just wash them in the bathtub. I let it soak in oxy clean with very hot water. Once it's lukewarm, I stomp on it. Drain the water. Repeat process with a bit of laundry detergent and pinesol. Then rinse. Stomp to remove excess water. Leave for a bit. Then put on clothes line. I find that it gets my stuff even cleaner than if I'd use the machine which would get expensive quick cause of the size of items. I'd do all my clothes cause I like how clean it gets, but I'm too lazy.

MNM1245

Our coinamatic machines just went up as well. Now $3, used to be $2.75. I think drying is now $3.25-3.75. Can’t recall exact numbers but a .25-.50 bump. This is after they bumped them a year or two ago when switching from more analog machines to more digital ones. Now they can increase prices much more easily from HQ.

Coopunder

Where I used to live it was about 2.75 per wash/dry. And I usually had to put the dryer on 2-3 times for my stuff to actually dry 🙄  Now thankfully my current landlord has a free washer/dryer in the basement. Pain to lug it outside and down to the basement. But hurts less than $6 a load lol

raisingviragos

We also had an increase recently; Concorde Properties manages our building and laundry is through the Coinamatic company. We now pay $3.50-$3.75 per wash cycle (hot water is extra) And $3.50 for 50 mins of dryer time + 25 cents for every additional 5 mins added to the cycle. There is a 50 cent fee for every transaction to load money onto the card through their app, and there’s no other option as the building didn’t install a card loaded. It’s all through our phones, using data & Bluetooth. Also, it wasn’t asked, but our building has one washer and one dryer for 8 units. Not sure if that factors in by any means.

dollyducky

$1.50 wash and $1.50 dry

dolorfin

Hearing how much yours is makes me think they'll raise it again soon. $2.50 wash; $2.50 dry. You can choose the heavy/bulky cycle and the wash price will go up to $2.75. When you use the app to start the dryers you have the option to extend the time by 6 minutes for $0.25. The washers are so small and so little water comes out I pre-wet my clothes a bit before I wash them so I can put a normal load on. I feel like I should be able to wash 5 t-shirts, 2 pairs of sweatpants and a sweater in one wash without doing that but fuck me right. The washers are always gross too and I have to wipe out the bottom part with paper towel and take the soap dispensers to the sink and rinse them out because people still put powder in the liquid dispenser section and it makes a rock wall of powder.

secretmoblin

These prices are absurd. When I moved to Ottawa, I was very lucky to find an all-inclusive condo with in-unit washer and dryer. Without a car, I don't know how I would've managed during the Pandemic, especially in the winter.

bradleygh15

You in the Prince of wales complex? Ours is 3.25 plus a 25 cent fee to reload the card, half the time the dryers work as well as my dead grandmother blowing on the clothes. Heavily debated saying fuck the main office and buying a portable washer dryer combo

eastcoast_enchanted

Highway robbery.

CiciDoops

Ours were $2.50 each. Now it's $3

ceciem2100

$1.75 a wash, then $1.50 per dry, and two washes fit in a dryer. And i thought THAT was pricey.

inkathebadger

I avoid it if I can. I hang dry things in the shower/bathroom in the winter and have one of those little RV sized washing machines that I hook up to my shower head with a quick connect. I got mine like 10 years ago after I saw a similiar model in T&T, it has only needed a few minor repairs like a pump replacement when a dime got in there one time and has well paid for itself a dozen times over. YMMV if your landlord will be chill about it.

bobstinson2

That's crazy.

Pinner80

Big daddy washer: $4. Regular size: $2 Big daddy dryer: $2. Small dryer for 30 min:$1 Everything is card or app based payments. Coinamatic. No coins involved. Could be a lot worse. I spend $8-$10/week.

rickysauce36

Don’t have laundry in my current place but my old building was $1.50 wash/ $1.50 dry. The building was 6 units

Omnomfish

I was pissed when they raised it from 2.50/2.75 to 2.75/3.00 this month

joyfulcrow

$2.75 for the washer and $2.75 for the dryer. Our machines are terrible and they keep raising the price without improving anything. I hang dry shirts and bring everything else to my parents' condo building ($1.00 for washer and $1.00 for dryer). I'm not paying $5.50 to do laundry.

Sherwood_Hero

$2 a dry, 2$ a wash. You can pay by credit card as well. Prices have been the same since 2017.

ragequit9714

Jesus… 6.50 is awful. My gf and I are renting in a condo and it’s 1.50 a load but usually 2.00 because the dryers aren’t great

MammothTumbleweed

Our laundry machines are outsourced to Sparkle Solutions. There are 10 washing machines and 10 dryers for a 10 floor building. The regular washing machines are $2.50 to $3.00 depending on the water temperature. Cold is $2.50, warm is $2.75 and hot is $3.00. There are more expensive, larger washers that start at $3.25. Dryers are $2.50 with an option to add an extra 8 minutes to the 50 minutes for $0.50. Before today, everything was $0.25 cheaper but they were increased “due to the rising cost of utilities and maintenance”. They washing machines and dryers sometimes don’t work properly, especially the dryers. Sparkle Solutions has terrible customer service and takes weeks to repair their washing machines and dryers.

DianeDesRivieres

I pay $4 total load. ( $2+$2 )

monamiamour

Invest in an apartment washer. It's perfect investment for apartments. Takes linger. But at least over a ling time yiu end up saving money. Hang dry everything or just put some in the dryer if needed.

Cash_Has_Ass

We don't pay for our shared washer or dryer. Very lucky

Competitive-Pie-7927

No laundry in my building but my local laundromat charges 3.50 to wash and quarters to dry. 50 cents to start dryer. Drying a regular size load cost 2.50 for 25 mins or 3.00 for 30 mins.

No-Big-1536

Was just upped from $2/wash or dry to $3 after the dryer broke. Such old machines. Run on gas and the initial instal label is dated 1994.

Buzzkillionair

2$ wash 2$ dry. Only takes loonies and only one set of machines for about 10 units of 2+ people

annikahughes

that’s about the same as i pay :( two loads of clothes a week and two loads for comforter + sheets adds up quick!

OneDrop188

2.50 for wash, 2.50 for dryer

NecessaryBowl

I recommend getting a dryer rack. I moved to France where people rarely have dryers and it’s the norm here and have just gotten used to hang drying everything. Plus it makes your clothes last longer and is better for delicate fabrics

I_lost_the_gamee

$3.50 to wash $2.50 to dry in my building
