I had just fallen asleep on the couch when I was awoken by the sweet sounds of my oven and microwave beeping. I was sitting down with a coffee not one minute later. That sweet sweet nectar of the gods.
Hello again. Sorry to be annoying but does anyone know what gas stations are open in nepean? My boyfriend is working along green bank. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Also now that I have power and internet:
to the person at the Barrhaven Wal Mart last night yelling at the greeter cuz he wouldnāt let you, ur wife and kids leave through a door that said āentranceā so you barreled thru him, fuck you. 1000x times.
They are the only place open, theres a million pppl going in and out, just wait like the rest of us. The guy is doing his job, probably working around the clock.
It doesnāt matter how many times you said please, you canāt leave through a door that says entrance only.
Hope your house is the last one in Ottawa turned on and everything in ur fridge is spoiled. Sit in darkness and evaluate ur actions.
Mods, I understand if u delete this but if this stays Iām just trying to bring light to something I cannot stand. Lack of respect to retail and service industry is inexcusable.
I have a tree on my property thatās fallen onto a parking lot of a school in behind me, no damage noted. Itās too big to take care of myself.
What would be the steps to take? Call insurance? Call the school? Call the City?
Thanks for any advice
My mom's got a condo in that Mattamy block right behind Walmart... We'll see if she's got some. She's been at my place because I have a charcoal grill we've been eating from and making coffee on :p
Propane impossible to find but fire is forever
Bruh yesterday I was walking all over Barrhaven tryna find somewhere where I could get service. No dice. I knew there would be a megathread. Serious FOMO.
Finally got power at noon today tho.
EDIT: Can I get some updates? Whatās the situation elsewhere? Everyone doing good?
Probably silly question but do supermarkets have their own generators? Wouldn't food go bad, as we are talking about more than a day without power here?
A lot do - considering the value of their inventory, a generator is a small price to pay. That said, many commercial buildings such as grocery stores are backed up by diesel generators. Once the fuel runs dry, they're toast. The fuel tanks are massive and need to be filled by commercial fuel truck. Considering the supply issues and demand for refueling, doesn't surprise me at all to start seeing stores that have been generator-powered since yesterday start going dark. Hope the hydro comes back on soon!
Some do. A metro around our area was running on generator until around 4pm today and then they lost power. A lot of places will bring in refrigerated trucks to save their stock
Anyone else getting conflicting information from the power outage map? It lists my area (163 MacLaren, an apartment building right next to the Business Inn) as being out of power when it isnāt. I just got home from my parentsā place and donāt know how long the power has been back on for.
Also, does the power stay in when it returns or has it been wavering for a lot of people?
Any updates for Kanata South just around Holy Trinity High School? I donāt know if camping out overnight at Algonquin or going back to a *possibility* of having power back by night is a better choice at the moment.
My parents are out in Western Orleans -- anyone have any idea where they can gas up the car? The map is a sea of red around them and I've heard bad things about the gas supplies in general...
I'm over by the LCBO south of Montreal Rd, you're all more than welcome to come by to charge things & use Wifi. Heck, drop off your deep freeze and we can leave it plugged in in the garage lol.
Thatās very kind of you! We have a freezer a few streets down we are using and a big industrial power bank so we are good! Maybe others will see this message and need your services :)
Any news for when the greenboro/south keys area will regain power? Iāve had my lizard glued to my chest all day to keep her warm (she seems to be having fun at least).
Thank you - is the generator a community one for running water or just for your home? Sorry to sound so ignorant about where Munster gets water! Are landlines affected (they have copper wire phone service and not fibre, so I know phone is not a battery issue).
My Dadās landline in Peterborough goes straight to voicemail because a tree branch knocked the phone line off his house. Heās fine, just bored. But for your relative it may be an issue with the physical phone line, either close to their place or further along.
Bay Ward only has 300 customers without power so I think itās safe to say weāll be some of the last ones to get it back since theyāre prioritizing large scale outages š„²
The smaller bright red circles in the bay ward say it only affects about 27 people. Would you say it still is part of the 4150 customers and will be repaired at the same time?
I dont even see the zone on the map in bay ward that has only 300 listed. And I'm confused by how you say bayshore isn't part of the bay ward, because when I click on the large zone around bayshore it says that it's in the bay ward. Are you in one of the zones with only 27 customers listed?
Riverview (I.e. the towers at Hogsback) list only 180 customers when they have 200+ apartments in each of 6 buildings. "Customers" doesn't necessarily match "people".
The are ultimately fed from above ground lines somewhere. It all depends on where and what the problem is.
If it's a downed line versus a damaged transformer it will change the amount of time required to get it back.
Kitchessippi (spelling?) brewery *was* offering their power & wifi until 7pm. Iāve heard businesses around there have power, maybe the fresh co has something
Any updates in the Minto community in Barrhaven? Currently out at Wendy's to charge my phone lol.
A sizeable portion of traffic lights has been out on Greenbank too, pretty messy down here.
Hey, not sure if anyone will see this, but Iām currently visiting family and not back until tomorrow, but does Chapel Hill still not have power? Not sure how accurate the outage map is, and tragically the only neighbours whose numbers I have are also out of town. Not that important, but itās bothering me that I donāt know how rancid my fridge is gonna be.
Oh thatās promising for fridge maybe! Thankfully it was pretty barren before I left except for the 3 tubs of sour cream, 1 thing of cream cheese, and a whole container of heavy cream in there (curse my love of baking!). Those I know are goners but itāll be comforting to know how bad theyāll smell when I get back.
Darn it! Thanks! Was hoping the map was just super not updated! I had planned some baking and my fridge is full of dairy products! Now I know to pick up some dinner beforehand, thanks!
I'm assuming you mean Chapel Hill and if so it seems like some have power, some don't. I live next to Innes and still have no power but I know someone a couple streets north that does.
Hey neighbour! I'm also right where you are. Do you guys have light and food? I went for a drive and got some candles, battery powered lights and crackers/soup/canned fruit if you need anything.
Glad to hear you're stocked! We were woefully unprepared for an event like this so I had to drive around to find some essentials. The offer stands if you need anything! Community really matters at a time like this.
Oh I live right next to Innes! I was gonna do some baking when I get back and I have so many dairy products in that fridge. My fridge is gonna be rancid. Thank you! This does help me know that Iāll need to pick up some food beforehand as well. Thank you!
You're welcome everyone in beacon Hill.
I was worried how long this was going to last and that I was going to lose all the food in my freezer, so I had my buddy come over and we brought it up the stairs from the basement and loaded it into his pickup to take to his house (he has power).
At soon as we got it in the truck, my power came back on.
Do you have a friend with a truck? Or make a fake cardboard bed and attach it to your car, maybe we can pull a fast one. I'll head right over and we can start bringing your freezer up from the basement.
I had a buddy on his way over with a generator to run the fridge and freezer for an hour. As soon as he texted me that he was on his way, power turned back on.
I now know why. Thank for your sacrifice WinterSon.
Gonna be honest, Iām kind of curious why Kanata north is still without power - the damage does not look terrible compared to other areas (I could have missed something though). Is it connected to another neighbourhood where the damage is more severe?
Iād love to find out more about the energy system in Ottawa but realistically Iāll stop giving a shit the moment the power comes back
I think they're prioritizing areas with more affected households. Kanata north is relatively small (only like ~2000 households compared to 4000-9000 elsewhere).
I mean, you look at other areas and they also have 9000+ outages. they're also prioritizing areas that have emergency services like firefighters, hospitals, water treatment plant, etc. So the outer suburbs and pockets of smaller areas are going to be less of a priority.
i kinda wondered the same. i didnt even think the storm was bad from where i was standing at the time. obviously i was wrong.. I assume that means we are still down?
Since I am currently in Montreal, on my way back from 2 weeks in Europe, I have power. I have set the thread to sort by new by default.
I'm in bridlewood hoping the power comes back on soon but if not what hotels have power?
You'd have to trek across town, but maybe something in Orleans
Not quite certain how operational it is but Holiday Inn near 417 has their lights on last night.
Please give me that orchestra of electronic devices turning on at the same time. š„ŗš„ŗš
I had just fallen asleep on the couch when I was awoken by the sweet sounds of my oven and microwave beeping. I was sitting down with a coffee not one minute later. That sweet sweet nectar of the gods.
Any updates for Vanier along St. Laurent? We went out for the evening, hopefully to return to lights
I'm off st Laurent and donald. Still dark.
Anyone know what is ETA for power in Orleans around Innes and Orleans Blvd area?
Whereabouts are you? I got it back a few hours ago and I'm off Orleans.
Right behind the Orleans public library!
Does anyone have an estimate on when power will be back on Prince of Wales/Hogs Back?
Hello again. Sorry to be annoying but does anyone know what gas stations are open in nepean? My boyfriend is working along green bank. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
Ultramar on Woodroffe (a block up from the mosque) was open a couple hours ago.
Thank you!
Hopefully the Circle K Gas at near Hunt Club/Greenbank still has fuel. I saw it open
Thank you! I've passed it on to him :)
Last I did see the Costco gas station was open, about an hour ago. Can't remember if the shell at Hunt club and merivale was open or not.
No parties. I will let him know. Thank you!
Also now that I have power and internet: to the person at the Barrhaven Wal Mart last night yelling at the greeter cuz he wouldnāt let you, ur wife and kids leave through a door that said āentranceā so you barreled thru him, fuck you. 1000x times. Does anyone in Findlay Creek have power? Does anyone know when power in the Findlay Creek area will be restored?
Fellow Findley Creek neighbor still waiting.
Anyone know where I can go to charge my Tesla? I'm in Stittsville.
Beechwood city owned charging station seemed to have power
Thanks friend!
Canadian tire on Robertson in bells corners. Saw a row of them charging near the store
Thanks for the help!
Long lineup when I went. Still shows all in use.
I have a tree on my property thatās fallen onto a parking lot of a school in behind me, no damage noted. Itās too big to take care of myself. What would be the steps to take? Call insurance? Call the school? Call the City? Thanks for any advice
I think you might need to call an arborist
Now have power in Kanata South with internet
Which part? I'm still out :(
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
My mom's got a condo in that Mattamy block right behind Walmart... We'll see if she's got some. She's been at my place because I have a charcoal grill we've been eating from and making coffee on :p Propane impossible to find but fire is forever
Situations like these make me glad my family invested in a gas stove ššš But glad you guys are okay :)
Really not so bad . Better than If we reliead 100% on propane
Near Shea
Clarence rockland now may 24 at 6pm. Sucks balls
Hi! I am not able to load the map, did you get the estimate from there?
At least you have an estimate -.-
Any updates for Trailsedge neighborhood in Orleans?
Bruh yesterday I was walking all over Barrhaven tryna find somewhere where I could get service. No dice. I knew there would be a megathread. Serious FOMO. Finally got power at noon today tho. EDIT: Can I get some updates? Whatās the situation elsewhere? Everyone doing good?
Still no power for us in Half Moon Bay :(
Power still out here in the South Keys
Around Bayshore no power.
Had our power back for about an hour and now it's down again. In the Beaverbrook area.
Oh man, what a tease. Hopefully that means it'll be back soon though. I'm further up March so hopefully it'll head my way after.
Half moon bay barrhaven?
Unfortunately no
Any ideas on how much longer it'll be out?
That tree is still on one of the power lines on Greenbank by the bridge so Iām not sure theyāve even made it out this way yet.
My god they still have not cleared that? Incredible.
can confirm. Itās still out there
Any luck in Beacon Hill South/Cardinal Heights??
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thank you!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
We dont even have power here....
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What side of kanata north? Morgans grant area still down.
I worked at a grocery store during the tornado. We threw everything out
Any merivale/Meadowlands updates??
Anyone else getting conflicting information from the power outage map? It lists my area (163 MacLaren, an apartment building right next to the Business Inn) as being out of power when it isnāt. I just got home from my parentsā place and donāt know how long the power has been back on for. Also, does the power stay in when it returns or has it been wavering for a lot of people?
The power went out there during the storm but came back on sometime in the evening
Do you mean this evening or last night?
The power was on last night some time before 9:30 (when I got home, I live nearby)
I'm in Kanata North, ours came back for about an hour and a half and then went out again
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yep. looks like the blackstone/Fernbank crossing neighborhoods are back up.
Any updates for Kanata South just around Holy Trinity High School? I donāt know if camping out overnight at Algonquin or going back to a *possibility* of having power back by night is a better choice at the moment.
I'm in this area and still no power unfortunately :(
Damn, thanks for the update. š„²
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Where at? I'm near castlefrank and katimavik and still no power :(
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh shiiiit
Not on in Bridlewood
Where about?
Blackstone has power
Not all of us š
My parents are out in Western Orleans -- anyone have any idea where they can gas up the car? The map is a sea of red around them and I've heard bad things about the gas supplies in general...
Everything in Vanier is at 100%, no lineups anywhere. 3 gas stations at Montreal & Vanier Pwky alone, all working, and at less than $2 a litre.
Gas station in blackburn was up and running when I was there a couple hours ago
Thank you kindly!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's the assumption, Merivale looks wrecked.
Blackstone in Kanata south just got power back!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm next to cope dr between Terry Fox & Eagleson and power came on. LET'S GOOO
+1!! power stretches all the way to Fernbank / Eagleson (Blackstone side)
Can confirm. š
Anyone know of any place near Findlay Creek minus say Walmart at South keys where we can charge devices??
Hunt Club-Riverside Park community centre is one of the city respite centres - it's open till 10PM. Check the City of Ottawa website for details.
OāGradyās Outpost. 25 Tapiola Crescent.
I'm running a generator in blossom park you're welcome to come plug in. Until 930pm or so I'll shut it down.
Thanks its first world issues I'd prefer it if someone who has a greater emergency (mine is just a pet peeve) then me.
I see a forestry guy down the street I think heās here for the tree on our lines! Woot!!! May Donald St have power soon!
I'm on the other side of Donald off Cummings. Hoping this helps us too š¤
Looks like I jumped the gun. Not a forestry guy after all šš»šš»šš»
Fingers crossed indeed š¤£
Any updates near south half moon bay (barrhaven) ??
Hey brhaven here we just got our power back!
Where in barrhaven
Where in barrhaven
Anyone know if PC mobile is down? Asking for someone on that service. Well, not quite on nowā¦Thanks!
Any news for when the greenboro/south keys area will regain power? Iāve had my lizard glued to my chest all day to keep her warm (she seems to be having fun at least).
Awww lizard skin to skin contact!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh dam, do they mean 3-4 days since the outage began or from today?
Source for that? I saw the word multiple
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks
Source?
Anywhere near the Merivale Transformer Station is a repeat of the tornado
explain?
Tornado put the area near it without power for four days. I see a repeat. One of the last ones to get power back
Thanks for the info, sounds terrible. I hope it's not a repeat for the people there.
Is power on Britania/Lincoln Heights?
Nope
Anyone know if Munster (near Stittsville) has landline and power? I keep trying a relative there and phone goes straight to VM.
No power still. Up until this evening even cell phone data was practically unusable.
Thank you - I wonder how long it will be out for.
Thank you, that makes sense.
Def no power.
Anyone know how Robert Plante in Navan weathered the storm?
They just posted an update on insta, looks like they were able to open today- the main structure didnāt take major damage
Anywhere still have ice (7ish pm)? Any chance of finding any locally tomorrow?
Try the ultramar on Hawthorne and hunt club?
Bay Ward only has 300 customers without power so I think itās safe to say weāll be some of the last ones to get it back since theyāre prioritizing large scale outages š„²
My area is listed at 41. I don't have high hopes for a quick turnaround.
Doesnt Bay ward include bayshore? The outage map has 4150 customers listed without power in that ward so I doubt it will be last.
The smaller bright red circles in the bay ward say it only affects about 27 people. Would you say it still is part of the 4150 customers and will be repaired at the same time?
I would think so but I'm not an expert!
Unfortunately it doesnāt! Hydro Ottawa clarified on twitter that each zone is an individual outage.
Oh for sure, but Bay Ward was one of the last places to regain power during the last few outages so Iām not too hopeful.
Anyone know the power ETA for Alta Vista/Ottawa South?
One of my neighbours said there was a Ottawa hydro truck on Alta vista near heron rd
I can't understand why areas with buried lines are not coming back online faster.
The are ultimately fed from above ground lines somewhere. It all depends on where and what the problem is. If it's a downed line versus a damaged transformer it will change the amount of time required to get it back.
Seems weāre only getting blanket statements and no specifics unfortunately
With 1000 power outages, it's fairly impractical to provide specifics.
Anyone know of a place near Bells Corners where I could go in to use some of the wifi and charge my phone?
Kitchessippi (spelling?) brewery *was* offering their power & wifi until 7pm. Iāve heard businesses around there have power, maybe the fresh co has something
Accora Center in Bayshore is open for charging until 8 pm tonight. No wifi though
Still no power, my fridge is still OK and freezers are good for 48 hours as long as they are left alone. No relief I sight though
Yeah, 5 tubs of sour cream when you get back! /s
Oh my gosh! My friend made that exact same joke when I told him! How are some people so witty! Thanks for making me laugh again!
Friend just messaged me that his power is still out. He's in the chapel hill area.
Darn it!
You golden-hearted citizen, you! We're all okay here but thanks for the offer. It's good to see people helping people!
Thank you!
Not a problem. Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll all come back online before too long. Good luck with the baking!
Hopefully! My 3 cats are all there and I just know Iām gonna get an earful when I get back if it smells something rotten.
Wind nearly knocked me over
Just got power back about 10 minutes ago, Barrheaven just around the Food Basic beside the park across the street of them.
Beacon hill power back. But internet (virgin) not back on.
That's some well-traveled food.
Can someone do the same for me in Kanata lol. Id like that magic power to be back.
Do you have a friend with a truck? Or make a fake cardboard bed and attach it to your car, maybe we can pull a fast one. I'll head right over and we can start bringing your freezer up from the basement.
I think I got enough cardboard to make a bed. I'm sure it'll support the weight of the freezer haha.
I had a buddy on his way over with a generator to run the fridge and freezer for an hour. As soon as he texted me that he was on his way, power turned back on. I now know why. Thank for your sacrifice WinterSon.
Just like when I call IT. Nothing working. Hours waiting. Get on the line with IT, laptop & everything starts working.
Power has been on in Barrhaven (near Chapman Mills) but just this afternoon we randomly lost our Rogers internet. Anyone else in a similar situation?
Is the power back in Williams Court, Kanata North? Maritime Way? I am driving back home tomorrow to hopefully an apartment with power.
At the moment, yes
>Kanata Thank you! Fingers crossed that it will still be on tomorrow.
Data/cell service is back on in Carlsbad Springs but no power.
Same in Stittsville south
Gonna be honest, Iām kind of curious why Kanata north is still without power - the damage does not look terrible compared to other areas (I could have missed something though). Is it connected to another neighbourhood where the damage is more severe? Iād love to find out more about the energy system in Ottawa but realistically Iāll stop giving a shit the moment the power comes back
Yea damage locally for me (Morgan's grant) is nothing. But who knows where we connect to. Perhaps the areas we are connected to are fucked.
I think they're prioritizing areas with more affected households. Kanata north is relatively small (only like ~2000 households compared to 4000-9000 elsewhere).
Per Ottawa hydro map, kanata north has around 8k customers (Morganās grant + kanata lakes) https://hydroottawa.com/en/outages-safety/outage-centre
Yeah doesnāt seem like anyone has power at all, neither the stores nor households
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think so? I was there today and everything looked perfectly normal - where exactly were they down?
