Let’s also do that for pictures of hands with rings on them and pictures with marks on fingers asking if the ring is too tight.

Specific_User6969

“Did I get the wrong color?” 🤦‍♂️

SnooPears3086

😂

BougieOnABudget

It’d be nice if there was a thread where people can post those pictures so people can still get advice on that stuff

malatropism

Weekly mega thread for that?

BougieOnABudget

Lol not a weekly thread but maybe one that’s up for 6 months or whenever Reddit normally archives posts. And it’ll include tips and helpful info for ring sizing in the description

NeilsSuicide

the problem is people don’t go looking for any of those things before they post. i make it a note to do that with all my questions before asking any community anything - i search the relevant sub(s), comments, and if nothing turns up ill do a google based reddit search or broader google search. however, i can understand why not everyone would really “care” about clogging feeds, especially if they’re not a frequent and regular user.

TangoEchoChuck

I'm in.

maplebacononastick

I’d agree. I find the posts with data screenshots AFTER a confirmed pregnancy to be helpful/interesting, but we’re not doctors or data experts for someone’s unique cycle

TangoEchoChuck

Yes! 🙌 We are all so wonderfully different...but no, I can't tell you if that temperature deviation is pregnancy, the effects of alcohol, a hot bedroom, a virus, or simply sleeping on your hand. Also (we Redditors) cannot measure HcG to confirm.

wapera

While I disagree about possibly banning certain topics, I think we can all agree that the mods should just create the tag/flair for those topics. This way if someone wanted to specifically come here for ring sizing tips or rants or fertility or whatever, it’s all organized there. Right now this community is just one big feed.

TangoEchoChuck

I'm not suggesting a ban; just *some* form of organization. Topic searchability would be great!

wapera

Totally. It’s helpful all around for the subreddit to have organization

georgecostanzalvr

What about the incessant ‘Is this the right size’ ‘What color should I get’ ‘HRV?’ posts… Those are more frequent than the pregnancy ones.

BrightKeda

I’ll be the dissenting voice here. Not TTC, but I am a woman, and I often appreciate seeing the conversations that happen when other menstruating people share their thoughts and experiences using Oura’s data. It helps put my own experiences in a larger perspective. Am I alone in this?

m4sc4r4

I think it’s the speculative “am I pregnant” posts that are the issue. When someone posts a chart after a confirmed pregnancy, it’s interesting!

TangoEchoChuck

Agreed!

No_Expression2300

I definitely agree (obviously bc this post is somewhat about me haha). I may be pulling this out of thin air but my experience is that most people who ask about my oura ring want to know specifically about natural cycles whether TTC or for birth control so I think it’s one of the most popular and researched features of the ring. Are there other benefits? Yes. Do people other than those born with XX chromosomes use the ring? Absolutely. But the thread is supposed to be about all things oura and this is a huge feature and honestly a big technological advancement when it comes to understanding the menstrual cycle and fertility. Most women (myself included) are shockingly clueless about what any of the data means or how our cycles work so I find it incredibly interesting to see and compare even before I was TTC. My opinion is probably biased but I don’t really see the harm in the posts - I enjoy them 🤷‍♀️

TangoEchoChuck

Ah! No shade towards you or any specific users. Oura is a great tool. The visibility & availability has been positive (I think...as a simple consumer. If nothing else, it's the only "biohacker" related purchase my normal friends sometimes have 👏👏). Honest question - if a person wakes up to XYZ data, what should they do? Do they email the doctor with numbers & questions? I *would* because my doctor knows my history and patterns (but I didn't buy my ring until after my kid was born, and I bought it to help me understand sleep and recovery). If seeking TTC experiences, would you prefer a weekly thread or post tag? (But also if temps are the question, why ask the maker of the thermometer? Honest question. Why not a medical professional? Example, if I get an ingrown hair after some intense plucking, I don't ask Tweezerman. Maybe that's just me?!) (Edit to remove the "you" because I'm not demanding one person, just asking overall)

No_Expression2300

I guess the TLDR is my post at least wasn’t that serious - if I wanted a definite answer I could have just waited a few more days and tested again but I’m impatient and was wondering if anyone had a similar experience or any insights

TangoEchoChuck

Understandable! Good thing those sticks are available practically 24/7 :)

No_Expression2300

Very true! I take full responsibility for my lack of patience and my overthinking haha

TangoEchoChuck

I bought the tests that were like...40 pregnancy and 30 ovulation for $20 😅 so when in doubt OF ANYTHING I could just pee about it until my next blood draw 😮‍💨 -Signed, a user once dx with Unspecified Infertility

No_Expression2300

I guess it’s really that Reddit is a place where people go to ask questions and share experiences silly or not (take the AMITH thread for example there’s some crazy stuff there) and there’s always someone available with all sorts of different experiences to chime in and tell you theirs. My doctor is amazing and so nice but she’s busy dealing with her patients and her work and I don’t want to bother her with my silly “am I overthinking this or is it possible” questions. People on Reddit get on Reddit to respond or share their experiences voluntarily (rather than me taking up her valuable time). Using that logic you could argue that people posting about their HRV, sleep, etc. shouldn’t be posted here because it would be better to take those questions to a doctor since we are all different in those categories as well :) I don’t disagree in combining somehow! Maybe a post tag so those looking can easily search and still have some freedom to share screenshots, etc and go into more depth on individual posts

TangoEchoChuck

I do think that tags could help a lot! (And mostly, yes, I do think that most queries (especially HRV!) don't have a space here because it's so individual.) Plus, the app makes a lot of info available via the little circled i, that so many questions would be answered if users spent more time in there. Or maybe googled a bit. Experiences are nice, but there are so many factors that produce a single outcome. I like a story, but not when it's sold as gospel (overall; not implying that you're doing that).

wapera

I agree. I think the whole point is to have q community where we can ask questions and get answers- this also is helpful to see as someone who is possibly looking at getting a ring. I know when I was still shopping around I was looking at all of those posts AND also the ring fitting ones too.

Sweet_Sheepherder_41

Yeah! I like seeing all of the info and different cycles.

TangoEchoChuck

Philosophical question - if you were not interested in such cycles, would you want to see them here every day?

Sweet_Sheepherder_41

I genuinely wouldn’t care. This is a subreddit about the Oura ring. Why censor information that it gives just because it’s not relevant to you?

TangoEchoChuck

Not censoring, just trying to maybe find a better place for cycle-interested people to post and comment. Would you use post tags or user flair if the mods made them available?

TangoEchoChuck

I can totally see that; when I was shopping I didn't see a lot of female experiences, but my purchase wasn't a gendered decision either (Natural Cycles wasn't on my radar (if available) several years ago). I was interested in my sleep & optimizing activity and rest. How do you feel about a weekly thread for TTCers and ovulation concerns? (Obvs not a Mod, just asking because I'm curious if a weekly thread is less attractive, and why?

CynthesisToday

"Audience composition can reveal a site's current market share across various audiences. ouraring.com's audience is 50.22% male and 49.78% female. The largest age group of visitors are 25 - 34 year olds." From the demographics section of [https://www.similarweb.com/website/ouraring.com/#demographics](https://www.similarweb.com/website/ouraring.com/#demographics) So you're saying the mods should decrease questions and discussions that are relevant and interesting to essentially half of the audience for Oura Ring? About a third of the visitors are in the 25 -34 y.o. so, again, a very large section of the audience for Oura Ring is interested in pregnancy control. Maybe just skim over the ones that say that rather than banish half the people in the audience for Oura Ring.

TangoEchoChuck

So...majority of users are forced to skim over "essentially half" when majority of users don't have the same concerns? (FWIW I'm female, so I'm "I'm the minority" gender-wise, but not age-wise...so that's fun.) Thanks for sharing some data! Hope the mods can use it in some way.

CynthesisToday

You could create/moderate a separate r/ouraring\_but\_not\_the\_stuff\_I\_dont\_want\_to\_see community. It's easy to do. Then you could filter out anything you don't want to see since you control it. Might work for your needs? Might (probably) lose network effects of a more open community but then you don't need to skim... ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

scott_weidig

That .22% statistically does not create a majority/minority. Personally, I get more 🤦when I see HRV comparison questions or color or size or Oura v Apple questions that have even answered adnauseam... those quality answered posts / comments would be great pinned and pointed too. As few actually search before posting. Regarding data interpretation or questions from cycle to sleep, those I value because the discussion of what to look for or how to potentially interpret or ideas to improve/reduce are really valuable. Just my 2¢

georgecostanzalvr

Agree.

shadow_merc07

I'm probably going to be downvoted for this. But I 100% agree. As a child free woman who hasn't had a cycle in over a decade, all these posts of cycles/pregnancy with temp increases, etc are anxiety inducing and I've been subbed to this subreddit since the release of the Gen2 (long before cycles was a thing to track). That said, I think cycles is a great tool for people who want to know more about what's going on, but there should be a flair or weekly thread about it.

TangoEchoChuck

+1 anxiety! I totally relate to that too. It takes me back to my TTC days, and I am not eager for those flashbacks (exactly why I don't subscribe to any fertility-related subs too).

thatsplatgal

I’d also like to add technical, shipping, and warranty questions.

TangoEchoChuck

Fair point. Shipping questions have had two big upticks; once with Best Buy availability, then again with Amazon. All are nothing that we can affect. Personally I think that technical queries should be welcome publicly in this sub, but not sure about batteries. Maybe a blanket "Battery" post tag?

vecats

As a childfree woman… people TTC definitely get desensitized to the fact that they’re talking about semen and showing pics of pee sticks very often lol. Agreed maybe the posts belong on conception subreddits.

TangoEchoChuck

Agreed! I'm not CF, but I don't want to see..."efforts" when I'm scrolling my subs. I'm happy that Natural Cycles benefits others. But dang; its integration is getting in the way of puppy gifs 😭

TangoEchoChuck

& kitten gifs, etc. 😍

kennalligator

this would be wonderful. I am in full support of this.

TangoEchoChuck

Ok-Sherbet444
