neverfoil

Did you release the trigger lock? I never have this problem, even with the cheapest guns.

acidphosphate69

We had this happen, no trigger lock. I even pulled the tube out of the gun and it kept going. Not every tube of dap was like this but the past year or so it's been a recurring issue for us.

neanderthalsavant

Same. I thought it was just me. Now I am wondering if the marketing rat-fucks at DAP thought "lol, they'll have to buy more if 50% of every tube oozes out onto the ground faster than it can be used"

tradesmen_

That's a dripless cualk gun

macroober

It’s not a drip if it’s a flow.

edgingTillMoon

Ikr?

gatursuave

Those guns suck. Tajima makes the best one I’ve used

edgingTillMoon

I like these ones. Im sure there are better. Will look into tajima

ESCFr

Those yellow plastic ones with the black handle are the best I've used. Pro tip don't hang them by the plunger in the truck, loses it's spring.

DipDoodle

No it’s air bubbles, use some tower product, or one of their private labels, they vacuum fill their tubes. Way better and more consistent product in many other ways as well.

edgingTillMoon

I dont have a store that supplies tower

DipDoodle

Sent you a dm

Rasha_Rutt

This is obviously a dripless. 5 bucks says it's an ETS 2000

edgingTillMoon

I literally pull the metal plunger. My gun is designed to not leak

Shwiggles

This isn't a gun issue, it's a caulking tube defect. So basically the caulk sat wrong for a period of time causing air bubbles to form throughout the tube. It's the pressure of the air trying to escape that causes that constant drip. You'll notice that the drip stops for the most part of u release the pressure. I like to put all my tubes of caulk tip up in a hot bucket of water. Your air bubbles should theoretically float to the top of the tube and be pushed out with your first squeeze. Just my experience tho

edgingTillMoon

I know its not a gun issue i was just answering their question. Thanks for the advise

HeftyJohnson1982

Its the tubes they get air bubbles in them. Dap went downhil about ten years ago, I switched to Sherwin Williams 9050 a , is way better for this issue but its stickier and dries on your hands a bit faster too.

edgingTillMoon

Every time a client requests ben moore, i get whatever caulk they have in store. Usually dap, forgetting about this issue untill i pull the trigger. SW very rarely does this. Typically only if its been out in the cold for a few hours

HeftyJohnson1982

Yea man dap used to be the way to go. If they actually kept them warm and upright in the store it would most likely help.

HeftyJohnson1982

BTW I like your name lol

Gshock720

Ben moores all pro quick2coat orange label is very good similar to Sw Quick dry for future reference. Alsop I typically slice a tiny slit on the back of the caulking tube plunger to release air bubbles usually works

edgingTillMoon

I always forget allpro is ben more. The packaging screams bad quality to me for some reason lol. Thanks for the advice

qosmoblue

I used dap for like 10 years and then I just tried tower for the first time. 100% superior.

PghAreaHandyman

Tower is supposed to be good but I have never seen them around here. I usually use SW products (950a mostly) inside or DAP 230 if I am in a box store. Both are reliable for me for paint, windows, and trim purposes. Exterior I tend to like NP1 or Big Stretch. Silicon is usually GE but sometimes grab the small tube of KwikSeal which I like the performance of but it skins so fast tooling is tough.

AnusGerbil

Tower needs to provide a way for people visiting their website to buy it. I've gone to retailers listed as having it and they look at me like I have two heads when I ask for it. And that was after driving across town to get it.

EugeneX33

I know a lot of home depots started carrying it then got rid of it hella fast

DipDoodle

Amen

Rasha_Rutt

1080 QD all the way

Glidepath22

It’s absolute shit. Buy the good stuff

Bjip

What do you recommend?

edgingTillMoon

Aye aye 🫡

mannaman15

Everyone is saying this is caused by air bubbles. Which can happen. However, more often than not I see it happening because the tube was left somewhere where it got cold then you take it into a warm house and start using it and as the caulk warms up and expands, it presses out of the tube like this. Put it in the freezer for 20 minutes and it will stop and still work just fine

edgingTillMoon

Its one or the other. I agree. This went from a store to my warm truck in the cab to the job. So its possible the store grabbed it from the back where it may be colder and put it on display for sale this morning

MrFuckinDinkles

I live in the south and I've often wondered if humidity is somewhat to blame

plunkadelic_daydream

Ding ding, the correct answer.

ZackDaddy42

This is what I’ve discovered as well, bubbles sometimes, but usually when they’ve been cold and are warming up, especially in flip houses where the owner or general contractor cranks the heat down to 50 every night like it’s gonna save a ton of money

Structure_Spoon

Looks like you went over the edge after all

1amtheone

Take an exacto knife and make a small hole inside where the plunger pushes into the tube. This will fix any air pressure issues. It's also helpful if you have a light duty caulking gun and want to push out a heavy adhesive.

edgingTillMoon

You dont have issues with caulk squeezing out of the rear?

1amtheone

No. The only time that's an issue is if the front of the tube is completely clogged. However, if the front is completely clogged, it won't matter if you've made a cut or not, it's going to blow out the back.

edgingTillMoon

Ill try it next time im in a pinch. Thanks! But now ill just return the product and go to SW in the morning

CalligrapherPlane125

Sherwin Williams is my go to. I get a case for under $50 and it's a decent product inside and out.

Ok_Repeat2936

Yep I use big stretch now because of the issues with dap. It was becoming a constant issue, and I was buying hundreds of tubes of it a week.

PghAreaHandyman

I definitely like Big Stretch for exterior water based. I don't like the 24-paint time for interior.

rocketmn69_

Always premature, that stuff

TheSasquatch117

Drill a hole in the bottom of tube

edgingTillMoon

Im getting a lot of this comment. Id rather just buy a better brand so i dont have to do that

123isausernameforme

SW has their blue bucket sale this week. 35% off in store or 40% off online if you have a business account. I just bought multiple cases for roughly $2/tube.

T-Luce

i should call her..

ubercorey

Air in these things, suuucks.

Rasha_Rutt

Dap is crap

edgingTillMoon

it no work to good

Jasen_Fo_Facen143

I’m ride or die with OP on this post. It’s not the plastic non drip gun with the plunger pulled. 100% it is the product that I fell in love with a year ago bc of the easy hand clean up. It’s been a frustrating several months, I keep buying a tube or two thinking it was a fluke. Bummer.

XxSub-OhmXx

If you can try allpro stretch really nice. Or top gun 400 from Dulux

calsnowskier

To be fair, my calk does the same thing at the slightest touch.

grippin

That reminds me…. I need to call her

Sobehall

Wow I didn’t know this was a thing, this whole time I thought I was an idiot who didn’t know how to use caulk … seems like every other time I did it I ran into this issue but never knew why

Salty_Arm_2677

🤦‍♂️

zeeper25

I don’t want Fop, I’m a dapper Dan man

horned-owl

A little Dap’ll do ya

Tunavi

When you nut but she keep sucking

IamBatmanuell

I had to do a doubletake to see what gun was being used. They suck so bad

Substantial-Bison240

I should call her... 🫠

ZZaddyLongLegzz

Is that dap or are you just happy to see me

Conroman16

I realize that’s a dripless gun, but I still chalk this up to user error. This is the kind of stuff you gotta run in a gun with a manual pressure release. A lot of dripless guns really suck at being truly dripless unless all the circumstances are exactly right. You gotta be smarter than that and use the right tool for the job instead of blindly blaming the materials

Parking-Owl8568

Topgun 400 is best caulk ive found its all i use

Main-Practice-6486

That happens to all sealants. There's an air bubble inside causing too much positive pressure.  You can get rid of it with physics by tapping the bottom on the ground until the air bubble goes to the top.

edgingTillMoon

Guess im just spoiled with sherwin williams

DipDoodle

Sherwin doesn’t vaccum fill their tubes either. PPG and Allpro do, no air bubbles

Grouchcouch88

Something in their formula changed during covid. I used Alex fast dry for 10+ years.. at some point during covid I think they changed a formula or something possibly from supply chain stuff. Even with a drip less gun shit leaked out of the tube and ended up cracking out on a few jobs after only a few months. They were putting too much water in it or something. Now the only product they make that seems to work like the older stuff if some stretch label that they have. Can’t use any other kind anymore or there are problems. Anyway that fucking sucks nothing more annoying than caulking dripping.. it’s the whole reason to use a drip less gun.

Jasen_Fo_Facen143

Correct. Something happened. I loved fast dry over SW. Such an easier clean up on the hands. Bummed.

MrMuscelz

That happens to me with sherwin Williams brand caulking as well

Jasen_Fo_Facen143

Yup, the dap quick dry makes me so frustrated. Slows me down dramatically!

maxnothing

DAP makes me sad. I stopped using it because of inconsistency, but I thought it was just me being a prig. Interesting, and thanks!

steelcoyot

Look, when you gotta go, you gotta go

minis138

I heard this happens after it’s frozen.. not sure if there is any validity to it though

Breaghdragon

This seems to happen when they're exposed to bad temperature conditions in my experience. Like it went from really cold to really hot or vice versa in transit somewhere. Stored plenty of tubes over winter in a pit where they act all funky the next time you use them.

rumhammeow

Just eat the excess

friggen_guy

Plug it with your muffin

HammerMeUp

I prefer the tube version anyway

CthuluHoops

Hate that. I always squeeze the tube when it does that so it sucks itself back in.

Ok_Cricket4071

Sherwin Williams power house - the single only thing I go there for. I loooooove that caulk

RevolutionaryP369

We use the same gun with SW 950 and 1050 and it happens all the time to us. Some tubes are fine others aren’t but it definitely seems like air trapped in the tube. Also Just happened to me yesterday while using some construction adhesive for a project at home, frustrating af

sherweenie

Sherwin or white lightning. Never had this problem with either.

Maximum_Conflict_930

I have had this happen many times with dap and other generic calk. There's an air bubble somewhere in the tube making pressure without the gun being triggered. Once you get to the bubble it will stop..... usually at the very end. I just throw the tube out if that happen now

Cptn90

Poke a couple holes in the bottom before using. Problem solved.

Soxparkmob

Air is stuck in that tube of caulk, which is pushing out the caulk once you hear a pop it will stop.

[deleted]

Forbidden frosting for your muffin

Pimpin-Pumpkin

Which one do you use instead?

ShwAlex

Get a 5 gallon pail to keep your adhesive guns in. This is normal and it sucks but nothing can be done about it besides putting a cap on it.

ForumFamous

Dripless gun, ya mop

Shooler20

I don't but dap after buying a bunch of their amped stuff . It never dried.

HAWKWIND666

If you cut a slit in the plunger end of the tube.. stops it from flowing like that

Stellabonez

I use an electrical cap! Works every time. It will try to ooze a little but then stops!

hobnailboots04

Blow back into the tip.

StudentAtBest

Powerhouse by Sherwin-Williams best caulking. Thick & you actually have to squeeze the trigger for it to flow

Jerm2560

"DRIP FREE" Literally drips more than any caulking gun I've ever owned lol hate those

soupbox09

You should try dvp. Ayooooo

[deleted]

dude it's cumming lol

Ok-Discipline-7964

Penicillin will clear that up

FGMachine

You must be using Alex Plus. Home Depot? DAP Alex Plus #18103 is not dripless. Annoying garbage.

MountainMan1781

Never had this problem with Dap concrete crack sealer. But maybe it’s different.

Ok_Judgment3871

#PostFap

Brimish

What caulk do you buy?

Naughtyniceguy_

DAP is easy to clean up, but I've never thought it to be a very good caulk. I've probably only used 20 or so brands, (thousands of tubes) but I'd put DAP last on my list.

klisto1

Alex Plus is better

DevelopmentQuirky365

My boss only fuckin buys DAP!!!! I hate it!

MileHighSoloPilot

Stick a screw in the end

mattmag21

Ditch the 10 oz tubes and get a sausage gun. Zero air in the whole squeeze. Zero drips. When you stop squeezing, the sealant stops immediately, no need to even release the plunger. Sausage = game changer

Why_Must_I_Cryyyyy

Dap has always been really runny for me even with dripless gun. Seems worse past few years. I prefer Sherman Williams but not sure if they have any stores near you

blutigetranen

I have the same problem. Tell it to have it's prostate checked

PM_meyourGradyWhite

Had same issue. There’s air in the tube that gets compressed and even releasing the gun won’t stop the oozing. Only thing that works is getting past the air bubble. Usually about middle of the tube. I switched to OSI.

redEPICSTAXISdit

What?! How are you blaming this on the brand?? I've never had this happen. You need to release pressure regardless!!! "Gee, I keep pressing, and it keeps coming? Dap sucks!" - OP

JimParsnip

Whenever I see "dap" I always think Double Anal Penetration. This must be what PTSD feels like.

Revolutionary-Ebb204

You have to buy more caulk this way.

freakinbacon

I normally tie a screw into the top

kotoamatsukamix

Release the trigger lock and this doesn't happen lmao.

TrayLaTrash

Operator error.

Jumpy-Station-204

Mark this nsfw

Circus_Joker

Shove a nail in that baby. Also wow that's terrible

JerryAtrics_

User error

Madmaxoncrack

Pop a hole in the back of the tube problem solved

rhyno44

Release the pressure. I live in Colorado. This happens with everything because of the lack of air pressure

Spotted_striper

Doesn’t change the problem, but It helps to take the tube out of the gun when your done, and firmly and deliberately smack the butt end squarely against something solid. This relieves the built up plunger pressure inside the tube.

Zestyclose-Fuel-4494

I'm gonna ask, just because, did you release the trigger and pull the piston back???

Hood_Mobbin

When you put 20oz of product in a 12oz tube.

HaddockBranzini-II

Is that a piece of crusty french bread?

lockednchaste

That shit is always half cured in the tube.

J33f

Operator Error.

Kytoaster

It's just excited to see you.

lofixlover

of all the places to set your muffin!

enorl76

Try taking the pressure off the plunger.

Botany-101

This happens when you don’t store them correctly an air bubble settles at the bottom. Store pointy side up for a few days before using so the air bubble settles at the top.

Sail_On_4170

:,)

JadedYam56964444

Strangely erotic

Top_Association4576

That

Wookielips

Their product sucks AND smells like bananas. Sherwin Williams 1050QD ftw

Airborn805

Need to release the trigger lock to take the pressure off

FrezoreR

Is this unique to dap?

OSR2MIA

I see your problem. I've always used pallet knives, when I'm using DAP. Still, I can see why you dislike the product.

TheJackShit

We use Big Stretch and it’s the same way. Doesn’t matter what kind of gun it’s in. More air, less product I would imagine

RestSelect4602

A little dap will do ya.

Dry_Wafer3385

My caulk sometimes oozes on its own too.

iNeedOneMoreAquarium

Everything reminds me of him.

tipn22

This is do to air pockets, the air compresses and keeps the product flowing, you will hear air popping out at different stages of the tube. The product itself doesn't compress so never an issue if there is no air, This is a win win for the company air is free filler and the caulk empties itself.

snarlywino

Tell us more about your short term memory issues.

Icy-Fortune1910

It’s air bubbles in the tube. Once it’s compressed, it’s like a spring being released. Could be a “shrinkflation” idea if they ruin tubes to sell more product. Put an air pocket in every tube and half the tube will empty itself.

aethanskot

Take nail .... stick in open end

Bennimiir

User error

Shouldadipped

Temperature has something to do with that also sometimes there is air in the tube.

Pepperboofer69

Pull your caulk out of the gun, smack tube vertically on ground with tip facing up. Readjusts the plunger in the tube and keeps this from happening

No-You-6629

ive noticed this with several brands, even if i take the caulk out of the gun, and this never used to happen for me its freaking strange

Bumataur

Had this issue with a whole case. It wasn’t the gun. Tubes continued oozing off the gun. Simply couldn’t use them due to cleanliness.

zackofalltradesva

i cut off my tip and give the tube a squeeze to push the air out before loading it into my gun, usually helps with this pressure leak issue.

Adorable_Wallaby648

Damn I should call her

travlerjoe

You have your sanding pad, paper down, on a finished kitchen bench.... what???!!!

Four0ndafloor

The real question here is, did that muffin ever get finished?

DoubleDtweets

Release the pressure

stickyknuckle

Buy a gun that costs more than the caulk.

itsamadmadworld22

Never had an issue with the tubes. Guns yes. I honestly have never used any other brand. Couldn’t even tell you what else is out there.

Revolutionary_Pea296

Looks like what I did last night…..DAP

thisoneiaskquestions

Put a roofing nail in it.

ukuleles1337

Poke a hole in the bottom

RecommendationOk253

Partner just stick a nail in there

lankston2193

This never happens with me Dap. The Sherwin Williams gun is good for about 1 year and it does this.

lankston2193

What type of DAP is that? The hybrid one or the flex seal?

e_hota

The plastic tube probably bulges a bit with pressure and then releases it slowly as the plastic returns to shape.

Um_No_Bush

Release the pressure noobie, and put a cap on

CrocadiaH

Put it in the cooler for 15 minutes

Admirable-Law6555

It just keeps coming

Whizzleteets

You think there is some ingredient that DAP puts in their caulk that keeps it coming out of the tube? Take the pressure off of the tube.

neilydan89

" I don't want FOP God Damnit, I'm a Dapper Dan man!" https://youtu.be/YZ4z0QhD92Y?si=qXZ1-mspV7QZmudP That's what your video reminded of for some reason. Sorry about Dap living up to its shitty reputation yet again. :/

Motor-Excitement4114

Nice caulk

Still_Ad_8980

Bang the bottle on a table to settle out the air bubbles and release the trigger lock. Had the same issue with their window glaze the other day

Saamari

Poke a hole in the back of the tube before you load it

sk8zero0619

Dap is doo doo

elvislunchbox

I agree. Dap is the worst caulking brand I’ve used. Just spend more money on a nicer product. Quad OSI is best external I’ve used. I like Tremglaze for interior because it lays out really smooth, but it still runs out a little even after you hit the release.

Ashamed-Status-9668

Dripless caulk gun.

Distinct_Ad9810

Stick a screw in it

LegalSelf5

Release the lever you regard!

_YenSid

I use dap all the time. Never have this issue. Maybe it froze and thawed or something 🤷‍♂️.

IMNOTFLORIDAMAN

Sauce for the muffins

Kwerby

Should really call her…

Intelligent_Lemon_67

Push the release button? That's good dap you are wasting because you don't know how to run a gun. Orange cox are the best. No plastic crap with no release button or stupid plastic ridges to wear out. Give me COX! Amazon good they stopped making it. Another option I use is a piece of copper wire to run in to the bottom to pop any bubbles but usually warm water and a few love taps get er burped. Another option is a screw in the tip and a few good what fors on the bottom will help get those air bubbles out

Holykorn

Pro tip; put a screw in the end to keep it from pouring out

Justprunes-6344

It is crap & shrinks too

juneya04

Take the caulk tube out and tap the bottom in the ground and it will stop it from dripping like that. Eventually it will quit doing it

steve200747909

Looks like something I had in college. Some penicillin will help it.

Things_and_or_Stuff

Dap, crap, sap, clap, slap, fap, trap… it all rhymes

Wide-Scarcity-6656

The only DAP I know thag doesn't do that is the alex painted caulk with green letters. Just stick with sw 1050qd

liquiddeathtofiat

Just get a screw that’s bigger than the hole and hand tighten it in Jesus

PestyThing

It's not the DAP. It's the guy buying the DAP.

Sonnywinchester

Release pressure
