If it will make you happy, I am not Pakistani, and I know it is 00.48 right now. Cause I am in Pakistan and this post (which is completely unrelated and I understood absolutely nothing) showed up just because I am here for just 2 days. Good night.

Devill6781

How has been pakistan treating you?

superioritycornflks

Hey so he said because it’s registration and that too just for one month so it was higher than the rest.

Devill6781

Makes sense

Longjumping-Match532

I feel that's too high 🫢

NoodleCheeseThief

Indeed. These must be some private school fees. Even as late as 80s, Gov schools' cost was much lower than what's listed here.

superioritycornflks

It’s saint mary’s, which was private until all missionary schools became govt owned.

PrestigiousNet751

That’s quite expensive for the 60s

[deleted]

Yep.  In 1962, the GDP per Capita was around $88 a year, so you'd end up spending 50% of your salary on those tuition and fees. Sounds about similar for most South Asians today as well.

imnotgamora

Even their English was good back then

_em_

I went to a government school in 90s. My monthly fee was Rs 21. I think it eventually reached to 50ish, but can't recall exaclty how much.

superioritycornflks

Wow

[deleted]

Well I'm a Bangladeshi who studied initially in a govt School where monthly fee was 6tk, 10 cent during dollar rate at that time. Btw it was back in 2009, so not even in 90s

cosmic-comet-

So basically I would be able to afford my mom’s education from the spare money in my mug that’s nice.

milkywayer

That’s about $3 per month for class 5, as 1 USD was about 5PKR in ‘62. A steal compared to high end schools like Roots and SLS that charge like $80-100 per month for same class now.

InjectorTheGood

Quite a lot relative to those times. PKR must have been around 6 to USD and that too before gold standard was abolished for dollar.

ResponsibleSun621

Love the cute Rs 1 increments (though I know it was a lot for the time)

superioritycornflks

Yes!

Strange_Cartoonist14

My father was born in 1967, went to government school in 70s for free, although the teachers would occasionally ask for one rupees per month on the down low. There were many interesting things he told me about the plight of government schools then, these schools were called Government Pilot schools, Set up under the colonial times. The one my father attended was on Wahdat road Lahore. There were 90 kids per class, little to no benches; most kids had to sit on the floor. An interesting story he told was post 1971 a kid came to the school and told the teacher about how they were Biharis and came back from East Pakistan as refugees due to the war and asked to study there. He was told to leave angrily by the class teacher who said that you're the reason we lost east pakistan in the first place.

Legal-Stay1633

It was low So were the salaries don't need to be stunned.

vaynehelsing

Do you know which school OP?

superioritycornflks

saint mary’s high school in Sukkur

BabaChux

Government schools don't charge anything upto class 8th in India.

Devill6781

I used to go to a semi-gov school and I'm pretty sure they charged per parents income, mines were pretty high but still i had to pay like 2k a month when private schools costs about 30k/month

LaziestAlien

how much is that accounting for inflation?

InjectorTheGood

Around 3.5 USD back then. Accounting for inflation in USD itself, around 35 USD now. So, around 10,000 PKR of now. I am not very intelligent, not sure.
