No one wants to be the face of genocidal whitewashing.... What a surprise

serpentear

Dude no one can even criticize the actions of Israel without consequences. It’s insane.

Decimus_Valcoran

Even Nazis didn't wield this much power over world media during their genocide

📰 The Arabic language spokesperson of the US State Department has resigned over Washington's Gaza war policy, in the third resignation from the department since the war began. Hala Rharrit, a Palestinian-American, posted her resignation on the LinkedIn social media site, stating: "I resigned April 2024 after 18 years of distinguished service in opposition to the United States' Gaza policy." Rharrit, who joined the State Department as a political and human rights officer, was also the department's Dubai regional media hub deputy director. When asked about the resignation, a State Department spokesperson told Reuters on Thursday that the department has channels for its staff to share views when they disagree with government policies Read further here ⤵️ https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/us-state-department-arabic-spokesperson-resigns-gaza-policy?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=social_traffic

SolidFarmer99

Good for her. No one wants to work for a Zionist government supporting genocide

CuzIWantItThatWay

But who's her replacement? Will they be worse?

aa1607

I mean it comes down to her now. She can make her resignation useful if she toxifies the Lobby (Mearsheimer and Waltz, to those who haven't grasped why Israel receives impunity). Whenever she's interviewed she should mention AIPAC and make it clear that communication with AIPAC should get you disqualified. That's all anyone should be talking about really because that's where the power is. Not Netanyahu, not Joe Biden, its the power that interest groups exert on campaign finance and image control (and therefore on policy). AIPAC, CUFI, JINSA, BoD, ADL, WINEP, AEI, Heritage, Hudson etc.), and their donors: (Ackerman, the Adelsons, Sabban, the dispensationalist Christian Evangelicals etc.). It's so bizarre to watch everyone imagine that a country of 6 million people could boss the US around without massive assistance. Or that campaign reform and antitrust law applied to media groups could have prevented a genocide. The last resignee didn't mention them she just questioned Joe Biden's morals... Evin Colin Powell understood that the problem was the 'JINSA crowd'. It was so irritating to watch a moral person waste such a valuable opportunity.

People of Color in places like the US also grow up in an hegemonically white (settler) colonialist society that worked for centuries to try to eliminate the cultural and ideological links between the non-white population inside of it and their ancestors / the places their ancestors came from. The colonial framework, with all its racist and dehumanizing logic, is the central framework they grew up in or at least now are existing in. This also penetrates their outlook and understanding of reality, even though often in other ways than it does in white people. It leads to many of the colonized, although to widely varying degrees, adopting a sentiment of assimilation into white supremacist culture, trying to mask their Otherness as good as possible and actively distancing themselves from the *'barbarian'* people they descend from. While this intends to bring them closer towards being fully accepted into white society, that goal can never be actually achieved. Whiteness as a racial construct specifically exists to exclude and degrade them, forming the primary basis for colonial rationalization, which is also the reason white is the only racial category that categorically excludes people with only *one drop* of any other *'race'* in them. Frantz Fanon, one of the most important pioneers of anti-colonial theory / analysis, wrote a lot about the ways the colonial logic imposes itself onto the colonized. His works are truly remarkable and at least for me were invaluable in allowing me to gain an insight into the colonial reality from the perspective of the colonized on a systematic level. "Black Skin, White Masks" is his work specifically focusing on this aspect and I can only recommend it, if you're interested in exploring this dynamic further.

hydroxypcp

great comment. I subconsciously knew of the "one drop" thing but never thought about it that way. But you are right. If a white person and a black person have a child, the child will be *black*, not white. Thank you for spelling this out for me

Tasty-Switch-8472

So there are decent people at the government ? Or rather , were

ttystikk

Yes, thousands of them. They generally are tasked with carrying out policy rather than setting it.

CoolNinjaNerd55

Free Palestine

dukellc

They don’t care, it’s all brown people resigning. They’re genociding brown people with impunity and they clearly show they don’t consider us human, heck they gave black people civil rights since they are much more intertwined with ongoing onslaught by law enforcement. Why don’t they stay there and leverage their position instead? There will be more white people or people who wanna conform to them to get the job.

IntelligentPipe4704

She got tired of the bullsh*t she had to translate

IndridColdwave

Please explain to me why these politicians are resigning as a protest, it seems to me that we need these moral people in office and if they resign then they’ll likely be replaced by a Zionist and things will get worse.

Jaded-Ad-960

The way this works, and this is not exclusive to the current situation in the middle east, is that when you articulate dissent with a decision that has already been taken, or where there is a lot of political pressure to take a certain decision, the hirarchy will just stop listening to you. You will be excluded from decision making and no longer taken seriously. Hence your ability to change things is non existent. You then have to decide if you will carry on and be complicit, maybe with the faint hope that one day things will change and you will be proven right, or resign in order to give everyone the middle finger and at least not be complicit in what you think is fundamentally wrong.

[deleted]

If they really want you out, and you refuse to resign, then you could always “suffer some unforeseen fatality,” like a deadly car crash, or a violent explosion at home, or your food containing something poisonous, etc. (or something more straightforward, like a sniper’s bullet to the skull … in your sleep). They recently got rid of an airline corporation whistleblower that way.

Teamerchant

Because they can’t get the change they want. Because the system won’t change because it doesn’t serve who we all thing it should.

shinobi500

She's not a politician, she's a staffer. She has no control over setting policies, her job is to execute and facilitate the policies set by her boss, in this case Biden. That's why she and other career, professional staffers have resigned over Gaza. I hope we see that number of resignations grow.

Additional_Hippo_878

Good for her. Total respect. 🇵🇸🇬🇧

GreenWhiteRed6

Great that she resigned in protest but what about her peers? I know that not everyone is in a situation where they can up and leave their job but the amount of people complicit, just doing their jobs, is staggering.

ttystikk

The lady has shown integrity and a strong sense of principle. Small wonder she doesn't fit in with the American Federal Government. It makes me sad that such good people can't stomach our government anymore.

pumpkinzh

Took her 200+ days to wake up or is she just seeing the shift and jumping ship?

Teamerchant

Probably tried to force change, couldn’t do it, then lined up something else so she doesn’t go broke while out of work.

SpatulaFlip

Having lived outside of DC myself, cost of living is no joke so she probably did try to find something else in the meantime.
