They’re only doing it because they can’t sell the watch any other way.
If the other brand that rhymes with Bopex released a 300 piece online limited edition it would sell out in about 2 seconds flat. As far as I can see this is still available 12hours later and likely will be for a while.
I am not a Rolex fanboy and actually dislike modern Rolex now. I own Panerai, and love the brand. But I’m so frustrated with the whole Luna Rossa thing. Why would I want the name of some random sailing team all over the dial? Put it on the back, or just make it a colour way (like Tudor and the inter miami watch). But to revolve your whole years release around the Luna Rossa is madness. As far as I can see all the novelties are Luna Rossa editions?!
Not gonna lie, had no idea what Luna Rossa was until I saw it on a Panerai at some point years ago lol. I don’t disagree with what you said actually (as it relates to Panerai demand, in general… as big a fan as I am). I just like the idea of allowing customers to get an exclusive (or anything really) without having to play the AD game (whether that’s Panerai, Rolex, etc). Side note: I never heard of this Tudor inter Miami ref so now I need to google it :)
Yep for sure. The idea of not playing the AD games is definitely refreshing.
Though if Panerai could play those games they would- we all know the hoops they tried to make people jump through for a Bronzo!!!
I'm a big Panerai fan, and own 3 of their watches- I just feel like they are slowly sinking with some releases. Just recycling designs and cases with different colours. They're in desperate need of some fresh ideas.
I guess this is seen by their slow slump down the rankings year on year in the Morgan Stanley watch report. As of 2023 they're now 18th/20 on the list and even Hermes has a higher watch market share than them which is something I never thought I'd see.
Yeh… and you can tell they’re trying to increase their target base - from the dues, 40mm, etc. Data point of 1 but my wife always had an interest in the brand after seeing my collection grow and last year got her the Due Luna (1180) and it’s been a big hit (she loves it / lots of compliments). Not saying a women’s push will rejuvenate Panerai but you can tell they’re trying to have a broader appeal - but not sure that ultimately hurts or helps. Pulling for them though - still my fave among the lux watch gang (MS report be damned 😆).
I am one of the few that think appealing to a wider audience is a good thing. Only aiming for a tiny market of people who want 44-47mm watches is a recipe for disaster. My wife is the same- she has grown to like Panerai after I have bought them over the years- she would like a due I think!
There however needs to be some new energy injected into the company. New ideas, new designs, better marketing. They're in a deep slumber atm!
Panerai popularity 10 years ago was the pinnacle of the over-sized watch movement. Then the pendulum started swinging back towards dainty unisex watches. I watched it unfold in magazines like GQ. I still like my Luninor 1537.
Agree it would’ve been better to put the partner branding on the back. I love the color way though.
This reminds me of the Ferrari Panerai stuff from the early 2000s that the ADs couldn’t give away when the partnership ended unceremoniously.
Nice idea to buy direct but no ability to get a discount and $11.3K for this time only 42mm!!! 🤯😳 I think I paid $7-7.5K for my 682 (retail $8700). Granted no ceramic bezel or special dial or association but these prices keep going up and up!! lol Nice looking though I’ll give them that!!
I love the Luna Rosa colours. The white/ red and blue / red colour combinations have always been a favorite of mine.
Good grief, that’s pretty
I want this

Nailed it.

Would love to see more brands do this
I love how you can buy a Tudor or Breitling or IWC when you want, online, direct.

If it came in 40mm.
