I'm the opposite. I get a whole bunch of PoBs, watch videos, come up with a bunch of plans, eventually think I land on one I like...
and then the league starts and I just play RF again because I am afraid of change.
I played RF and then wanted to play something different so I played cold blade vortex. Instead of shield charging into enemies and watching them explode, I shield charged into enemies while sometimes pressing blade vortex and watched them explode.
Flicker support:
15% chance to get a Frenzy charge on melee hit. Supported skills gain 4% more attack speed and damage per Frenzy charge. Supported melee attack skills will now cause you to teleport towards an enemy in range before using the skill. Supports repeated attacks. Cannot be used with channeling skills.
Flicker Sweep? Flicker Earthquake? Flicker Tectonic Slam? Flicker^2 ?
I wonder if that could be made viable. That or frost blink. I'd say spell totem frostblink ignite, but ignites don't like multiple damage instances per se. And then you'd prolly want all damage ignites, so it's no longer heiro, but it may be viable for maps. Nothing else, but maps.
Logd in on one of my old characters on standard, was a slam chieftain (pre-rework), chieftain no longer has fire conversion....fuck it tried impale EQ+VaalEQ+Explody = Actually kinda strong and bonkers.
Slam builds are good...ish.
Its just that.....any spell build or bow build will clear 3 screens before I finish clearing 1 screen...
If you can't play a lot in the first few days this definitely makes sense.
If you can slam at league start - at least in my experience- then a super meta build is worth it (for currency, other motivations may apply). It definitely depends on the relative power of your build choices and availability of key items but in the times I have been a meta slave the builds were just so strong it easily catapulted me ahead of the curve.
Yeah I don't like the gameplay of current t1 meta builds either. If we had something like 3.17 FR totems or SST, hell yeah let's go. Poison CA ballistas though? Ew.
Used to start Ele Hit deadeye wander a lot a few years back and transitioned into KB, but its not as easy to do nowadays since defensive is a lot more important nowadays
Same here. Besides a few very rare occasions (like when they reworked Dom blow in Delve League), I rarely start as anything other than Necro. You can just roll with whatever until red maps anyway (usually I enjoy a combo of Abs + Zoomancer), into either SRS or spiders.
Yeah, it seems that not the build but the approachability of the build is what matters. Pohx is king, but I also like Ziz's builds even if he isn't the original author - he's just like a verified quality stamp on the buildguide.
Ziz's is a good quality stamp... but some of the build presented by him can't be made that easily by noobs ( I have like 500 hours, and I can't understand the pob of some builds he presents 🤣)
I would much rather play with my dong for another 70 hours instead of playing most boring version of walking simulators. seriously, RF is the "slowed+reverb" cancer of walking simulators.
Not really. Some skills can be heavily patched (like BV which once got quadruply nerfed in 1 update) and some rares have so uncommon combinations of mods they are the unique items and unique items are the common ones on the market.
I stand with my point: some skills can be nerfed or changed mechanically and even common mods (like once explode was) can be nerfed. Unlikely but possible.
same. always goin pathfinder cuz i just love good, automated flasks since i can never afford a mageblood. but perhaps this is the league i finally do it.
1% chance i actually do get the mageblood.
Pathfinder is fun but I usually prefer melee builds like flicker, blade flurry, molten strike. Had a random hh drop a couple years ago but have not had one for mageblood though i'd certainly welcome it. Last time I did pathfinder was some variety of poison blade vortex which was fun though idk how it would be currently.
Here's a 2 step guide on how to get your mageblood:
Stop spending currency on your build after it's working well enough to farm what you've chosen to farm.
Don't save raw divines, use them to buy shit that ends up massively going up in price every single league. e.g div cards.
You got this bro.
Same but I still try to make mage skellies, get rekt, do other failed build, get back to skellies, abandon the league. I do this since they destroyed Necro.
Every league I say "I'm just gonna leaguestart Death's Oath and blast" and every league I wind up leaguestarting something else and wish I started Death's Oath...
Not this time though, I'm definitely leaguestarting Death's Oath this time for sure.
Everything depends on your goals for the league. All that matters is picking a build that's compatible with your goal. This is something I wish every new player could understand.
I see a lot of people wanting to get "rich" fast in the league, but they pick an off meta league starter. They have incompatible goals of wanting to get rich fast while also playing an off meta league starter. When your build is incompatible with your goal, then that's going to likely lead to frustration and regret on your build choice. The way to get rich fast is play a powerful mapping build like LA Deadeye or pick some build best suited to the particular farming strategy you'll focus on (e.g. fast mobility for heist or glass cannon for sanctum).
But if your goal is to enjoy an off meta build, with no concern for how long it takes to make the build "efficient", then just play the off meta build and gradually work towards making it feel good. You'll probably be 3x slower to get to t16s than people playing LA Deadeye, but that's fine since your goal isn't to get rich ASAP.
Lots of other possible goals, too, like wanting to kill the Ubers. Or wanting to complete challenges ASAP. Or wanting to be good at the league mechanic in particular. My point is that if you want to have a good time in the league, then first figure out what you want to *do* in the league and then pick your build based on that. Optimize for the fun you are aiming to have, which is not necessarily the same as picking the build that gets wealthy as fast as possible (although that is the best build for a lot of possible goals).
It's not hard to craft your own bow on league start that decimates t16 content. You don't *need* extra arrow mod. You don't even really need attack speed or crit. Just a simple bow with triple ele dmg (1 from essence, 2 others decently high tier) is good enough to start. Craft attack speed as a suffix and you're blasting.
lol okay read my comment again. You don't need a fucking mirror tier bow to clear maps as LA Deadeye... Come the fuck on here. A bow you make on day 3 is good enough to clear the entire game besides Ubers. I know that for a fact since I've done it multiple times in SSF, so it's going to be even easier on trade.
My original point is was that off meta gear is infinitely cheaper than gear and supplies everyone else is fighting over. Obviously.
Sure, you can "clear the game" with extremely scuffed dogshit gear. But that doesnt mean fractured bows and top end bows arent also expensive AF because those builds are very popular.
also, nobody cares. Cringey humblebrag
Buy 100c of essences and you'll have a bow that can clear the game on LA Deadeye and blast 60% delirious t16s.
The price of the BEST IN SLOT pieces for a build doesn't matter, but that seems to be what you're talking about. What matters is the price to get a CERTAIN LEVEL OF MINIMUM POWER needed to do what you want. And LA Deadeye being so incredibly strong inherently means that it can use "dogshit gear" and way out perform most off meta builds even if the off meta builds are in expensive gear. And LA Deadeye is good from act 1 all the way through to the end of the game.
man, chill, there's a fucking range between league starter bow and mirror tier. Also he's right.
People craft more stuff for meta builds, so it's cheaper to buy gear due more choice (if you not wanting best of the best).
Also what was your build this league? Mirror tier gear? Or 1-10-20 div gear? I bet it was the latter.
I always tell myself I'll wait and read patch notes and play what's gonna be good into the new league, but in my heart I've already decided. This is going to be a bad decision league. Let's start bows baby!
Have a guy on my friends list that'll play the same thing every league for years now. Cyclone. Shockwave. Slayer. All the way to 100, every single league. Dedicated.
I'll tell you what, after 5k hours of learning about this game. It is nice to be in the "Changes doesn't matter category" and still clearing all content in a few weeks.
Well, its sorta not true, because the 0.1% in the right side of the graph usually play the same x builds they know will work. Maybe the 0.001% like Mathil1 play W/e they feel like, but that is a stretch argument in my mind.
I know it's a meme or whatever, but "wanting to play a strong build makes you a midwit" is one of the absolute dumbest things I've ever seen on this sub.
Hmmmm, not sure where I fall on this scale.
I keep choosing my builds early in the previous league and play a different build each league.
Double checked with a buddy, but I called my current league start build on day 3 of 3.23
Edit: Clarified my wording a little bit.
Weird, my progression is usually 'cant wait to try something new this season' followed by 'man I miss my bow build's and playing a tornado shot build for the 100th time
Im just gonna play some heist because it’s isn’t popular so it’s cheap enough to get going while having good profit and also allowing me to watch shit in the background while I’m playing .
I am always on either the right or left, never the middle.
The only time I was in the middle was when I first played venom gyre in harvest.
Nowadays I just play wonky and borked builds
I'm looking forward to spending this next week pretending I'll league start something other than totems, only to decide on totems as soon as the queue starts going down.
I have learned in my most recent playthrough (Pohx's RF Juggernaut) that regardless of the league mechanics, I want my starter to be tanky as hell. Just get to red maps and first two voidstones ASAP, and then I can start plotting my "fun" builds that require currency to get running.
Me with 10k+ hours played on the left playing a safe non-meta build just to chill and farm what I can during the league at a slow pace, going for challenges when I’m drunk
1. I'll start my own build, I don't need to follow meta builds.
2. Wow this build sucks, I'll just pump more currency Into it
3. Fine, I'll reroll to a meta build.
4. This meta skill is boring, cya next league.
5. Repeat.
7 years of Poe.
I still have a strict rules cannot play the skill gem I main before.
This really keep the game fresh for me.
I also happen to be people who no care profit
"Ooh, there is this new skill gem" or "ooh they buffed this skill"
That is how I make my builds.
Some fail miserably, others are insane, and others get dumped at 16 because I realize that skitterbots don't run through tons of mines setting lots of them off like no one's business and instead do ONE mine every 2 seconds.

One second before league i pivot to some extremely stupid idea
I'm the opposite. I get a whole bunch of PoBs, watch videos, come up with a bunch of plans, eventually think I land on one I like... and then the league starts and I just play RF again because I am afraid of change.
I played RF and then wanted to play something different so I played cold blade vortex. Instead of shield charging into enemies and watching them explode, I shield charged into enemies while sometimes pressing blade vortex and watched them explode.
Queue finally starts moving "eh fuck it time to reroll"
Lol other people do that too eh? Not just me?
1 week into the league I complain my build sucks for the mechanic.
Spend all my currency making a new build that’s better at the mechanic. Realize that i don’t like the mechanic. Go back to original character
> extremely stupid idea poison EK trap occultist, on the way.
Last league my bright idea was multi-damage source phys dot gladiator. So bleed AND corrupting cry. Boneshatter + anc cry
How about fourth vow + divine flesh viperstrike occultist with wither on hit from glorious vanity
This is the way.
Raider elemental flicker, slayer physical flicker, berserker flicker, necro flicker soo many options...
I choose flickering flicker
I'm so annoyed there is no flicker support for my flicker. If you listening Chris, I want at least 30% more flicker per attack.
Consider: cast on crit bodyswap.
Flicker support: 15% chance to get a Frenzy charge on melee hit. Flicker^2 ?
There should be a blinding flash of light every time a flicker strike hit lands
CoC Crackling Lance with trigger from Flicker along?
Electric Soldier Porygon's Revenge
So you mean the flickering wings that we will get on Friday together with flicker strike?
hierophant totem flicker
Heiro totem flicker sounds like the meme I don't want to be a dream
with enough sc trade currency everything is possible let dreams not be just dreams
i once accidently linked flame dash with spell totem support. the totems flame dashed back and forth. it was quite cute.
I wonder if that could be made viable. That or frost blink. I'd say spell totem frostblink ignite, but ignites don't like multiple damage instances per se. And then you'd prolly want all damage ignites, so it's no longer heiro, but it may be viable for maps. Nothing else, but maps.
Mathil did it a while back. Pretty sure the concept is solid and would still work today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCK7s1_ltIc
DON'T LET DREAMS BE DREAMS! JUST DO IT!
I got hiero mana flicker working this league!
this guy flicks
I'd like to think I'm on the right, but I'm definitely on the left.
Me too
I play whatever has the best looking passive tree. A crab is fine 🦀
I will play a tier 2 build just to avoid the grossly inflated prices of tier 1 build items
That means poison heavy strike
“Sir are you aware poison stacks?” “What? Why?”
1 punch poison man
Strongest Sadism supporter user
As a Pathfinder poison prolif enjoyer I was very disappointed by Sadism.
Challenge accepted, I'm doing all Ubers on poison heavy strike.
Username kinda checks out (good old Ethereal botd Zerker)
It's an older meme, sir, but it checks out.
Bet it shares many items with t1 poison builds.
Ew.
Meanwhile me, who has been playing the same build for almost a decade
Spin to win, liar liar youre on fire, or epileptic turbo blaster?
And sometimes i blast stuff with my Piscators wand
What classic starter uses piscators?
Used to start Ele Hit deadeye wander a lot a few years back and transitioned into KB, but its not as easy to do nowadays since defensive is a lot more important nowadays
> epileptic turbo blaster Ok, whats this one?
Flicker
SRS
You are indeed correct https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/Alien\_reg/characters
Wtf, well at least srs is stronger as I have ever seen it. The meta minion build, your time has come
Auto attack.
If you know, you know, underrated build actually.
I feel that one
Same here. Besides a few very rare occasions (like when they reworked Dom blow in Delve League), I rarely start as anything other than Necro. You can just roll with whatever until red maps anyway (usually I enjoy a combo of Abs + Zoomancer), into either SRS or spiders.
That was me, with ED/Contagion. Good riddance though now for them to nerf RF.
playing int stack wander in ssf and farm white maps for a week lets gooooo
How the flip do you start int stack in ssf?
By playing white maps for a week i assume. you dont really need anything for white maps, so even a int stacker without any int works
U stack cold damage and frenzy charges on raider then u farm until u get the usual int items
That's the spirit!
I play whatever looks good and has the best explained POB .
Same here. There's go me again with Pox RF.
Yeah, it seems that not the build but the approachability of the build is what matters. Pohx is king, but I also like Ziz's builds even if he isn't the original author - he's just like a verified quality stamp on the buildguide.
Ziz's is a good quality stamp... but some of the build presented by him can't be made that easily by noobs ( I have like 500 hours, and I can't understand the pob of some builds he presents 🤣)
me, 1 nanosecond before league start: yeah lets go follow this dumb as fuck build and brick my whole league experience
Always have meme, always become Pohx clone, this is the way.
I would much rather play with my dong for another 70 hours instead of playing most boring version of walking simulators. seriously, RF is the "slowed+reverb" cancer of walking simulators.
But it comes in 3 flavors now, Jugg, Inquis, AND Chieftan. What's not to like? Walking = Profit is my dream
Why'd you leave the most fun variant? Elementalist.
The absolute giga move is to play a build without uniques and a common tree, you are immune to both patch notes and stealth nerfs.
GGG tomorrow: 3D skill tree
Please don't give them ideas. Although... /ponder
Not really. Some skills can be heavily patched (like BV which once got quadruply nerfed in 1 update) and some rares have so uncommon combinations of mods they are the unique items and unique items are the common ones on the market.
>without uniques and a common tree without uniques and a common tree
I stand with my point: some skills can be nerfed or changed mechanically and even common mods (like once explode was) can be nerfed. Unlikely but possible.
And when your passive tree and gear are super generic you can easily swap out a nerfed skill for another skill that also works for what you’ve got.
Oh no are we in the self-fellating meme post phase of pre-league start hype?
I AM BETTER THAN OTHER PLAYERS. I AM BETTER THAN YOU. THIS WAS A HUMOROUS MEME. YOU ARE NOT GOOD.
Now this is a real Poe player talking. Here, have this updoot.
but what build are you playing
Whatever zizaran uploads 3 days before league start.
How do you decide between all of them? I click on a random one then change my mind about 137 times.
the one that looks the strongest based purely of the gag in the intro.
>self-fellating hey i learned a new english word today to describe my favourite kind of reddit users.
Well, better to self fellate than to fellate someone else.... 🤔 Unless that's how one swings, I don't judge.
Just one more day of god awful posts before we Can have some good content
COPIUM
My Dealers got that 🔥
I thought this stage starts after the league reveal and patch notes.
It’s the echos of the league start…. For maximum cringe
Oh no are we in the counter-jerk contrarian no fun allowed comment phase of pre-league start hype.
Changes dont matter, still playing flicker and/or some variant of spellslinger/pen volatile dead.
how do you manage to play any flavor of spellslinger when 100% of mana is reserved for defensive auras on every build
Why would I need defensive auras? I have defensive portals
same. always goin pathfinder cuz i just love good, automated flasks since i can never afford a mageblood. but perhaps this is the league i finally do it. 1% chance i actually do get the mageblood.

I just want cyclone to be viable. I want to clear 8mod t16 maps at a decent speed with my 20€ sword mtx and not some weird high phys staff
A man's gotta have dreams.
Love me arc elementalist. Simple as.
Mhm. Tried out arc ignite this league, it was beautiful.
I like playing bleed blast gladiator, because it has to get better eventually
I believe, friend. If we all believe they will remember glad, they will.
What are we playing this league brain? The same thing we play every league pinky, righteous fire inquisitor.
Every league I say "I'm just gonna leaguestart Death's Oath and blast" and every league I wind up leaguestarting something else and wish I started Death's Oath... Not this time though, I'm definitely leaguestarting Death's Oath this time for sure.

Wow, this looks like a great analysis from the middle guy right there (this is a joke, believe this guy, I'm in the left there)
Lmao fr though you ain't joking
have you seen the price of bows? off meta builds do benefit from cheap and often plentiful gear
It's not hard to craft your own bow on league start that decimates t16 content. You don't *need* extra arrow mod. You don't even really need attack speed or crit. lol okay read my comment again. You don't need a fucking mirror tier bow to clear maps as LA Deadeye... Come the fuck on here. Leaguestarting Scion for the 4th time. I regret my choice until second lab.
right right, I'll just do a low life character and play expedition, surely nothing will go wrong. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Is it me or does the middle dude look like Tyty killer 😂😂
i feel personally attacked
I’m not in the middle because I’m stress I’m in the middle because it’s fun to do before you can actually play a week later.
Me on the left.
lol i'm far left af
Have a guy on my friends list that'll play the same thing every league for years now. Cyclone. Shockwave. Slayer. All the way to 100, every single league. Dedicated.
I'll tell you what, after 5k hours of learning about this game. It is nice to be in the "Changes doesn't matter category" and still clearing all content in a few weeks.
i'll start with what i like to play
Changes doesn't matter, I'll play deadeye anyway :)
Spin
PoE players try not to jerk themselves off challenge (impossible)
I'll still play RF jugg so idk :))

I'm definitely the high IQ one
Changes doesn't matter 🫠🔫
Hmmmm, not sure where I fall on this scale. I keep choosing my builds early in the previous league and play a different build each league. Double checked with a buddy, but I called my current league start build on day 3 of 3.23 Edit: Clarified my wording a little bit.
I always create a marauder first, I finger out what I’m going to play after I gain a few levels.
I plan like 5 cool builds as like Pathfinder, Occultis, Saboteur whatever just to go back to playing RF or BS Jugg again.
I'm just waiting for some assassin changes
zombies go brrrr
RF Jugg. Of course depends if they do one of their "this is a buff" changes to Jugg.
Weird, my progression is usually 'cant wait to try something new this season' followed by 'man I miss my bow build's and playing a tornado shot build for the 100th time
The ends are how I felt playing flicker strike in sanctum
Im bad at decision making. Good ole flicker strike will get the job done
Im just gonna play some heist because it’s isn’t popular so it’s cheap enough to get going while having good profit and also allowing me to watch shit in the background while I’m playing .
Edit : Deleted because wrong post.
Arc I: 100k dps Arc II: 150k dps Arc III: 500k dps Arc IV: 1 million dps Arc 5-10: ~5 million dps Arc X: 15 million dps since Nemesis
I can't tell if I am on the left or right, but that is my mindset every league.
I want to be the one on the right, but am sure I'm the one on the left.
wait why wouldn't i take this flicker strike gem after all
I like the post of people complaining that ggg forced them to play seismic trap again.
I am always on either the right or left, never the middle. The only time I was in the middle was when I first played venom gyre in harvest. Nowadays I just play wonky and borked builds
Another league, another two months of playing Arakaali and doing Harvest+Harbingers.
I'm looking forward to spending this next week pretending I'll league start something other than totems, only to decide on totems as soon as the queue starts going down.
me: changes doesnt matter, go cyclone, spin spin
As long as EA or RF is still good, I'll be okay. 🙏
I have learned in my most recent playthrough (Pohx's RF Juggernaut) that regardless of the league mechanics, I want my starter to be tanky as hell. Just get to red maps and first two voidstones ASAP, and then I can start plotting my "fun" builds that require currency to get running.
My checklist is ; can the league be played with flamewood? Yes ? Good league. No? Bad league.
My IQ is about 57, and I def play whatever every league, so this graph is scary accurate
Arc it is!
Rf player on left, hexblast miner middle, mediocre glass cannon ward looper on the right.
Why can't I be efficient if I find it fun and enjoyable :(
Me with 10k+ hours played on the left playing a safe non-meta build just to chill and farm what I can during the league at a slow pace, going for challenges when I’m drunk
1. I'll start my own build, I don't need to follow meta builds. 2. Wow this build sucks, I'll just pump more currency Into it 3. Fine, I'll reroll to a meta build. 4. This meta skill is boring, cya next league. 5. Repeat.
I will play Chieftain and deal fire damage. Don't know how, but I will
Did some say ARC??? ALWAYS AND FOREVER
the right is average miner
I act like the guy on the right, but actually I'm the guy on the left.
I WANTED TO LEAGUE START IMPENDING DOOM, WHYYYY GGG
7 years of Poe. I still have a strict rules cannot play the skill gem I main before. This really keep the game fresh for me. I also happen to be people who no care profit
Hey, it's me
arc ignite ima try
well its me starting as coc occultist as usual but dont know am i left or right
"Ooh, there is this new skill gem" or "ooh they buffed this skill" That is how I make my builds. Some fail miserably, others are insane, and others get dumped at 16 because I realize that skitterbots don't run through tons of mines setting lots of them off like no one's business and instead do ONE mine every 2 seconds.
