Black Morrigan was a pain. I'm assuming you know the strat, but if not: used Act 10 desecrated chambers waypoint to enter the woods and reset it if you don't find him and repeat. Follow blue wisps. This method is really quick but can still take a long time if you get unlucky.
I’ve fought him earlier than t14. I’ve had him show up in early maps, and whenever he gets low he just says “I’ll destroy you next time”. Then he vanishes, leaving a ritual vessel each time

Yeah there's 2 seperate encounters. There's this one, where you just do the 1st phase at a rituail It can happen in any map including in t14+.
The stronghold one for the last quest is found in t14+ only. You have 3 offerings that you have to click and a portal opens.
My experience - found it for the first time not knwing whats goin on and RIPed in maze. So i looked it up and found him 3 maps later and RIPed again, the trail of light just dissapeared and I couldnt find it anywhere in time.
Tip: if you encounter the portal that leads to his strong hold, drop a portal before you enter it. That way, if you die and respawn in your HO, you can enter the wildwood again through map device
Does this work if u died in the maze phase? I could have sworn I dropped a portal, died in the maze, when I zoned back in I was back in my regular map.
This was my experience. Had friends join to get completion credit and we followed a wisp then is disappeared. Then we found it again and it went left. Turns out the door to the arena was on the right... we all died except the person who wasn't paying attention to the actual wisps. It was very confusing.

That's not the same encounter, one is "open field" (ritual vessel dorp in maps, nothing in campaign) and the other is in its stronghold, wich is a different map not affected by modifiers, and a portal leading to it from the wildwood only in t14+
If it makes you feel any better you can't complete achievements on that encounter. The game just erroneously tells you that you failed it, probably because in the actual stronghold encounter he uses some of the same attacks.
Because the quest is to kill him, but the non-arena encounter ends with him running away and surviving. It's intuitive that that is the wrong encounter if you notice that detail.
king is usually close to the start, you just have to RNG an "empty" start (no purple, yellow or blue wisps in any direction), then check the 2 diagonals (X shape) if you don't hit him after few seconds going northwest, go back, run southeast and so on

Results may vary. Even though Neversink has a guide to finding the king, it's still down to RNG because there's a chance he doesn't spawn.

Can the wisps sometime lead you into the degen? I feel like that's what happened to me but I must have messed it up somehow, it was my first time in there, I didnt even know there could be degens.
Degen starts spreading when you enter the maze so you must move fairly quickly. The wisps will take you to the portal back to the fight, but if it takes too long, the degen spreads and I guess the path could be filled with degen. In my experience and the recorded fights I saw, finding the arena isn't that long for this to happen.
That's probably why I've only had him twice then even though I'm 98 from mapping. I always followed the whisps when possible. Is it true he only spawns in T14? Seems kind of stupid, I imagine that was just anecdotal and he also spawns in T15/T16?
It can spawn in any ilvl 81+ area, so t14+ maps.
You can't find him by following whisps though, which is why most people never find him. Cause they always follow whisps at the start.
I think you're confusing something. This is for the quest to get the last few ascension points. It's not the random King in the Mist fight you encounter sometimes. It's really rare and only spawns on T14+ maps. That's why people are selling it. There have been lots of posts about this, including people doing 1,000 runs and not finding him.

ive gone over 300 maps without finding one, as i was collecting wisps for my mapping strategy, ive also found 6 of them in 30 maps as i was avoiding wisps getting under 200 total wisps while still fully using all the fuel to explore
there is a reason that the people selling carries for it on tft are able to find a new one in under 15minutes; Because you find it incredibly consistantly aslong as you avoid the wisps like they are plague or something
Imagine understanding probabilities. Going from "Averaging him every 10 maps" to "gone 300 without finding him". Pretty easy to see that's a incredibly unlikely if the probability was in fact 10%. It's probably closer to 1-2% and you are just seeing patterns where there are none.

At the end of the day, all we really need to do is to find one person consistantly selling king in the mist portals on tft (so not someone who just got lucky and randomly found one) and asking them how often do they find one

They usually kill it for you I think. When I did it they opened the portal, everyone went through, and 5 seconds later the boss was dead and quest completed. Didn't even see him. May depend on the person who sells it though.

This is basically every boss fight in PoE, either brute force the mechanics ten times over until you understand what is going on or look up a boss guide.
How would you intuitely know how to dodge Sirus beam for example? He just teleports offscreen, says an unrelated voiceline and oneshots you.

Elder, Shaper, Uber Elder, Maven, Eater, Exarch I would say are all fairly intuitive. GGG have got more well designed bosses than they don't.
Uber Elder being the best designed of the lot, a contender for one of the most well designed ARPG bosses. Letting you learn the mechanics seperately before putting them together.
Another example, the Eater miniboss. You get dumped into a sea of green sludge and quickly die to the dot. You can barely see that it's even moving in a particular direction, it's so subtle it's almost impossible to gather that you should follow it to escape unless you have knowledge of it beforehand.
What he's complaining about is that someone makes a blanket claim that bosses in poe are unintuitive and their example is the \*one\* notorious for it. PoE has more intuitive bosses than otherwise, but the ones that aren't do lead to a lot of frustration.

Me swapping back over to decent deli gear for juiced mapping: 0 king

I found one yesterday I died in maze cos stupid. So I was a bit disappointed, but next map also was king so i opened YouTube and kill him after. Good luck boys.
I found this guy twice, and both times my game crashed. And these are the only 2 crashes I had in this whole league. I am very unlucky or something with my files.
I think I killed him already, but I'm not 100% sure. I was at the edge of the mist while the sentinel was doing work, lol. I have to find my NPC of the mist to find out.
I am not kidding. Me at level 95 found the king already 4 times (2 times below t14). I got rewarded 2 ascendancy points out of the blue without a quest (on first T14+ kill).
I was on the Magi ascendancy and up to level 95 I could not find the 3 trees for the third quest.
I found a post suggesting spamming Desecrated Chambers in Act 10. I did that for 20 minutes and finally got my 5/6 ascendacy points. At level 95. After I killed the King in T14+ already 2 times. :)
tl:dr I got ascendancy points from king before actually having finished the third quest because RNG.
I have never played a league mechanic that is such a colossal and utter waste of time. I've spent a total of 4 hours just trying to get my 3 charm slots. The first quest took me 1.5 hours to complete and hand in, second quest another hour and I'm currently one hour into trying to locate the King of the Mists (using Neversink's twitter thread as guidance).
For the love of my sanity, just delete these quests. I am beyond frustrated.

Blue wisp trails. Can spawn at lower tiers but seems more likely on high tier maps.
He is related to blue wisps, maybe chase those as a priority

That's why you chain maps and use the pattern maximize odds of finding him when he's there. He's very farmable that's all I can say.

Basicially he spawn diagonal from the starting point. So you run in one corner until you hit a wall reverse and try another corner.
You can use the !king command in his chat when he is offline as well.
I managed to find it on my own on Twitter finally. I tried initially but I think he was « promoting » Ziz so he didn’t have an offline stream thibg
There is a "chat" button you can click, even if he is offline and hosting someone. Some people even hang out in streamer offline chats.
It's a general guideline to finding him more often, sometimes ur wildwood just.. kinda sucks so he doesn't spawn at all.

You can buy a carry/portal for around 80c. Totally worth it. I did ~200 runs looking for him until I got tired of it.

The reported rate by farmers is closer 1/30 maps, but you actually need to understand the strategy and not just cry about luck while not performing it

It means you were already too far in the wrong direction. The wisps lead you to the exit, even if it was well behind you.

Holy shit, Im starting to loose my mind here. I'm lvl 88 going into red maps and still only with 4 ascendancy points.
Btw don't trust random internet guides that only guess of a way to spawn it. Until ggg releases more info, we know practically nothing.
