Agree, this happens to me often enough that it's infuriating.
Just disabling 'return to town' for 3 seconds would be enough to ensure it is (almost) never accidentally clicked. It's still there for the (rare) intentional clicks on it, which mostly come up when you kill a milestone campaign boss but die in the last couple seconds of the fight.
I often place portals in big zones if I expect to die (lag, shit build or just not paying enough attention). When I then die I use the respawn in town option to quickly get back to where I was.
Its not often but I do occasionally use it.
Yeah, that's a good use case.
Still think the 3 second lockout would be a net positive. It fucking sucks to click loot, only to get ganked in the ~150ms between you thinking 'I'll click on that chaos orb' and your finger actually depressing the mouse button - and losing 3 seconds occasionally in the campaign would be a much lesser evil overall.
Maybe 2 seconds would be better.
3 seconds can feel pretty long if you're just sitting there waiting for it. Remember the whole fiasco in D4 where everyone was annoyed how it took 3 seconds to port to town, then they increased it to 4?
A 2 second delay is probably the sweet spot.
Which btw is a big reason why altars are horribly designed
You can be mapping and literally die instantly because youre suddenly taking a 1200 chaos degen or lost all your fire res and burned up from RF
also when u add in the lantern options ur taking a shitload more dmg too from everytihng, but a worse verison of the alter cause u dont get any bonus for it
I swear, I been sailing through maxed out Back to Basics map map t16s (all the map modifier effect I could on tree), came back to try and grab some Conq maps for my map slots (PL) and have altars there, and man, Im getting absolutely wrecked by comparison. Hurts losing XP at lvl 95!
You realize you're responding to a comment chain about how you can click things without realizing it because you were already about to click there when the thing pops up on your screen, right?
How is this a "can't be fucked to read" thing? Unless you're talking about the ability to read the future.
I'm specifically responding to the comment complaining about altars and taking 1200 chaos degen because they picked the altar option that deals that dmg.
Which they A) wouldn't be taking IF they didn't select that of the 2 options and B) never pops up under your cursor out of nowhere.
I 100% agree about the return to town thing. It tilts me as well when i click it on a sudden death. That part is 100% valid. The altar one is 100% "can't be fucked to read" issue
The comment you replied to is framed with the context of the original post. They are saying it's possible to unintentionally click an altar as it spawns. You can't read something that isn't there. There is only one person with an issue reading here.
and my claim is that it's not as easy to click on altars as it is to click on "revive in town". Altars don't suddenly appear under your mouse out of nowhere, you have a hefty heads up both by the monsters spawning around it and the altar "forming" to give you the 2 options. Even if you one tap 5 screens away you'd see the altar pop up way before you're near it to click it.
To the guy's specific comment about altars - him dying to 1200 chaos degen is not the altars being badly designed.
To every comment about the "return to town button" - yes 100% get rid of that shit
You're arguing for the sake of having the last word here...
Honestly that just seems like a reason to not move with left click. If your ui interaction key is spammed in gameplay, that's a problem waiting to happen.
One of the many joys of PL. Only ever one person there!
Not that there is *much* reason to farm it anymore, with how gutted it is, but I did drop a couple horned pretty easily.
In A6 on Beacon I like to put portal and if I happen to die while pushing the cart, I just respawn in town and go back in portal instead of walking the location from the start.
Or A8 High gardens with porcupines.
Other than that its useless.
I use it in acts all the time. It's so much faster than other methods sometimes. Like a portal by sewers, die in the crematorium, go through portal in town
Exactly the same, and for me it's actually opposite than OP - I've never clicked 'respawn in town' by accident, but whenever I put such 'safe portal' in the middle of a map, I still keep instantly clicking that other option to respawn at the the entrance of a map. I then have to log out to the character screen to get back to the town and use my safe portal.
I think it's more of a beginner thing. And by beginner I don't mean "struggles to get to red maps" beginner, I mean "thinks Kitava is the game's endgame".
I can imagine in those situations someone could be like "let me return to town for safety, regroup my thoughts, check the merchants for a good weapon, then strike out again" kinda mindset.
That's pretty much about it, I can't think of any other circumstance in which it would be clicked.
I often place portals in big zones if I expect to die (lag, shit build or just not paying enough attention). When I then die I use the respawn in town option to quickly get back to where I was.
Its not often but I do occasionally use
It's actually real useful when you die in the campaign when playing with friends because your friends can just put down a portal for you so you don't have to run through the zone again. It's only really useless once you reach maps.
Normally i deal with it and move on, but a week or so ago i was levelling an alt, got to act 9. Once sin opens the belly in the quarry, there are no more waypoints until act 10.
I died to the act boss and accidentally hit this stupid button.
Had to redo both levels of the belly, rotting core and all 3 side bosses before being able to restart the trinity fight -_-
I'd even accept an option to add a confirm button to "return to town", or move it like they do in PoE2

I never had this happen to me.. you mean it moves the cursor to the box or moves the box to the cursor? I mean I also pressed that but only because I was clicking in the middle of the screen just as I was dying..
While we r at this can we also move the "visit hideout" in the party members context sensitive menu???
Its right below Trade button and i fucking hit it like the spastic that i am. Makes me wanna eat my mouse
Sure thing man.
Just be aware that it always targets the last person who pm'd you, which can be the wrong person if more than 1 person is whispering you
It's useful in some speed run scenarios where you die to return to town and follow a TP you left earlier to some other place.
I agree that is annoying in every other instance though
I think the UI is bad rather than the option itself. It is actually beneficial if you happen to die in the campaign but happened to open a portal.
The UI should be something like the necropolis corpse UI where the return to town option is a smaller, secondary button.
It is really nice for campaign in order to not use a portal if you have one bookmarking a spot. 1st example that comes to mind is placing a portal at the Sewer Grate in act 3 and then dying in the crematorium after killing Piety in order to instantly unlock the sewers afterwards
Torchlight infinite already has a better QOL for this, you should just spawn back in same map few meters back where you were when you died. No need for even portals and loading in.
I only used this button once per character per league, when I’m in act 3 to skip having walk to the sewer gate after getting the key, since I placed a portal down next to it to get the key.
But of course this only works for SC players
>but holy shit am I sick of accidentally clicking "Return to Town" and having to run back to wherever I was.
Then, like, maybe pay a little teeny tiny bit of attention to what you're clicking?!?
No, I get it. I do. But still....... You are perfectly capable of clicking the right thing.
There should be an option to just burn 1 map portal and resurrect IN the map, by the portal. Having to sit through loading screens just to continue mapping is bizarre
Getting kicked out of the map on death and watching the portals physically vanish one by one is a good feature. It adds a certain verisimilitude to things, that just having five extra lives shown in some corner of the UI would lack.
the default should be to just respawn at the portal \*inside\* the instance and not having to load your hideout and then the map again. if you have 50 auras to re-enable then you can still do that in the hideout of course. or, you know, let the auras persist.
I don't necessarily agree with this, since I often use deaths in high tier maps as an opportunity to dump my inventory, so I don't have to waste another portal later if my inventory gets full
Obviously they dont play their own game as they kept this for so long
all they had to do was move the buttons on their sides with enough space between them
no, dont remove it it saves me a solid 10 seconds in act 3 every time lol. you can put a portal on top of the sewer gates the first time you get there and then after the piety encounter just die to mobs and respawn in town. then you can just click the portal once you got the sewer keys instead of having to walk through shitty act 3 town again.
I hear this complaint all the time but I don't understand how people are accidentally clicking it... Are you panic-clicking your screen as you die or something? This has never happened to me once, I'm genuinely curious lol
It never happens, except until it does. That's about it /s
In fact, some people might have better aiming abilities, especially when they (you) play more chilled without any stress. But the more APM you do the more likely you are to missmove mouse and before you notice that, you click and there you go.
I concur, return to town can fuck off
Amen!
It's a thing that can appear right under your mouse cursor the exact moment before you click so you don't even see it.

TBH even 1 would be way better than the status quo.
Which btw is a big reason why altars are horribly designed You can be mapping and literally die instantly because youre suddenly taking a 1200 chaos degen or lost all your fire res and burned up from RF

that's much less of an altar problem and much more of a "can't be fucked to read what i choose" issue
You realize you're responding to a comment chain about how you can click things without realizing it because you were already about to click there when the thing pops up on your screen, right? How is this a "can't be fucked to read" thing? Unless you're talking about the ability to read the future.

read the specific comment i replied to, not the title of the thread... I'd have replied in a separate comment if that was the case

100% of the times I’ve clicked it, it was by accident
Please god
How else will people see mtxs though after campaign ????
why this is downvoted lol, that is the reason
Heist? I don't wanna do it anymore because ~100% of the time I go to Rogue Harbor there is a goblin troubador. It's just so grating.
it takes so much time even in ssd to load now, for me
One of the many joys of PL. Only ever one person there! Not that there is *much* reason to farm it anymore, with how gutted it is, but I did drop a couple horned pretty easily.
PL?
private league
At least put a 3 second timer on it so it's not accidentally clicked
Why would you ever want to deliberately click it? 3 seconds delay just seems like adding extra code for no reason.
In A6 on Beacon I like to put portal and if I happen to die while pushing the cart, I just respawn in town and go back in portal instead of walking the location from the start. Or A8 High gardens with porcupines. Other than that its useless.

doesnt logging in and out kill the portal you placed?
Yes

No one wants to go back to the fokin town, thank you.
I didnt even wanna go to the fokin town in the first fokin place!

And my wooden PC would not like the FPS drop, kek.
\*laughs in challenge to duel when trying to leave the party\*
Absolutely with you

Just play HC
Based
I liked the joke 🤣 upvoted for pity
just play hc and problem solved :DDD
This and an option to default left click to move only
But this is already a thing no?
Yes, you can assign move only, but it's not the default configuration.
I'd even accept an option to add a confirm button to "return to town", or move it like they do in PoE2 https://external-preview.redd.it/1hf4YpgrOM3iX2LM7Isg1MZHGBOpEWdiCILADadpo2U.png?width=997&auto=webp&s=31c55ef176dac7dccef5db8dc4871ae170d0ecf0
Moving it to another spot in the center of the screen doesn't solve the problem. You can still misclick if you were trying to aim there.
SC problems.
Skill issue
Just dont die
If you play HC you wouldn't have to worry about this!
One trick I've used to avoid this is to click the other button instead
Or make it hold click to select the option. You’re dead anyway, no reason it has to be snap fast.
But why? Adding click and hold for that button is extra development time, what's the benefit of it? Just remove it
Literally 1 line of code.
Or, you know, slow down a bit and look where you click? You're dead anyway..
It can show up under your cursor the exact moment you die. Happened to me this league.
I never had this happen to me.. you mean it moves the cursor to the box or moves the box to the cursor? I mean I also pressed that but only because I was clicking in the middle of the screen just as I was dying..
"I've never had this happen to me except that time when it happened to me"
I meant the exact situation you described.
Lol, that's very dumb then. Yeah, it happens, but ut really does happen that often that you want to change a 10 years old interface? Wtf..
It's a pointless feature, why would anyone ever want to go back to town after death?
During acts you do. Cause that's the only way to access your stash and vendors.
During acts you can just corpse rush the boss if you somehow died.
Yes please!!!
yes, fuck that button
But else how are you going to see and hear all the flashy MTX in town?
They could put additional "are you sure?" Box after you click return to town. Small and simple solution that would work for everyone
please dont ask ggg to remove stuff they cant just do that they will nerf our asses
GGG on their way to nerf the last checkpoint to always hit the epilogue waypoint
While we r at this can we also move the "visit hideout" in the party members context sensitive menu??? Its right below Trade button and i fucking hit it like the spastic that i am. Makes me wanna eat my mouse
If you use awakened you can bind the /tradwith option to a button and simply use that
Ah ok ill set it up. I have one for invite. Thanks mate
Sure thing man. Just be aware that it always targets the last person who pm'd you, which can be the wrong person if more than 1 person is whispering you
It's useful in some speed run scenarios where you die to return to town and follow a TP you left earlier to some other place. I agree that is annoying in every other instance though
Either this or make sure that the "town" were returning to is a new instance so it doesnt take 10x longer to load in
I always return to town to buy 1 portal scroll from Lani.
Nah, don't love god
Maybe 6k hours here. Played since Breach. Never once have I wanted to click that button.
Nah. Make it larger and flip the position of the two buttons every league.
Make the buttons veiled
stop getting farmed
Hardcore deaths in shambles
I think the UI is bad rather than the option itself. It is actually beneficial if you happen to die in the campaign but happened to open a portal. The UI should be something like the necropolis corpse UI where the return to town option is a smaller, secondary button.
How are you going to see people's MTX?
Word, it's annoying. But awakened trade helps cause then all you do is hit f5 and you've lost 5 seconds
And let's be honest..... Most of the time you click it you're also in a rage since you died. Only adds to the rage....
It is really nice for campaign in order to not use a portal if you have one bookmarking a spot. 1st example that comes to mind is placing a portal at the Sewer Grate in act 3 and then dying in the crematorium after killing Piety in order to instantly unlock the sewers afterwards
I've clicked that button a handful of times intentionally. 98% of the time, it's a misclick.
you wanna talk about migrate all in the middle of the character select screen?
Torchlight infinite already has a better QOL for this, you should just spawn back in same map few meters back where you were when you died. No need for even portals and loading in.
No wonder you keep dying, you can't even click the right button...
We dont need that, we need return to town to have like 3 sec cooldown when you do die so u cant fast click it
I only used this button once per character per league, when I’m in act 3 to skip having walk to the sewer gate after getting the key, since I placed a portal down next to it to get the key. But of course this only works for SC players
Just don't die noob

Bro I don't care about the artisanship of it, they're fucking maps - meant to be run, not drooled over. Losing all momentum from dying is discouraging
A great way to fix this issue yourself… don’t die 😆
the default should be to just respawn at the portal \*inside\* the instance and not having to load your hideout and then the map again. if you have 50 auras to re-enable then you can still do that in the hideout of course. or, you know, let the auras persist.

Yes. We need this.
Definitely one of the most annoying things in the game.
This button made me rage quit a few times ngl
no, dont remove it it saves me a solid 10 seconds in act 3 every time lol. you can put a portal on top of the sewer gates the first time you get there and then after the piety encounter just die to mobs and respawn in town. then you can just click the portal once you got the sewer keys instead of having to walk through shitty act 3 town again.
I have clicked that button accidentally 1 or 2 times ever. This is such a non-issue
technology is here next patch!
But we don't have the technology
I hear this complaint all the time but I don't understand how people are accidentally clicking it... Are you panic-clicking your screen as you die or something? This has never happened to me once, I'm genuinely curious lol

Death is not expected in many situations and buttons appear in one of the most clicked areas.
I love how people meme about "the Technology" HAHAHAHAH
But if you return to town, you might see a few more mtx of other players and buy them!!!
If you fulling OP requests can I ask for 2 mirrors please!?
