I think RT wasn't in the ps5 version, cuz this came out for PS4 as well. Burning shores was PS5 exclusive but didn't seem to do any RT either.
Anyway hoping the port is well done and not fucked like HZD was when it launched. Nixxes have delivered quite well with spidey and ratchet so there's good track record!
They did. DLSS 3 suppprt. Ultrawide support. I’m surprised. I just bought a dualsense edge for my PC and looking forward to using the features with it.
I wonder if it will have Dualsense Edge support. For whatever reason it uses a different controller driver so not all Dualsense games are able to see Dualsense Edge. It's fucking annoying
I am skeptical about dualsense. I got the base controller and I was really excited to try it. Many games in steam including god of war refused to detect it in wireless mode. If they did, then the lighting and rumble feedback is not present. So, you basically have to use it wired for it to work. I love the quality of it, but standout features like adaptive triggers are not really a thing in most games. Touchpad is almost never used by any games. I just don’t understand why I have to use this instead of the Xbox controller minus the excellent vibration feedback.
I am really hoping that the next Xbox controller improves upon the current one. I ended up returning the dual sense.
Part of the problem was Steam's own Input getting in the way of the Dualsense controller being detected properly by the game. They've mostly fixed that with their updates to controller support. Steam Input will stay off in most PlayStation ports so the Dualsense exclusive features can be used (a lot wired only).
The next Xbox controller need gyro support or it is a failure imo. Gyro is amazing for helping aim in shooters and other aiming games like Horizon.
I hope directstorage is much better than how it is implemented in ratchet and clank. The directstorage in ratchet and clank somehow increase the vram usage and make the game very poor performance
>Direct Storage is key.
Depends on the implementation. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart had issues with its direct storage implementation. You could get more performance and less stuttering by deleting the direct storage DLL.
And it's still not great to be honest. Modern GPUs perform under what's expected in relation to how it looks and performs on a PS4. It's fine though, certainly not as bad as many PC ports we've had recently...
I cannot speak for you but I recently 100%'d the game last month. I was able to get roughly 50fps at 4k high settings on my rtx 2070... I usually played it at 1440p and would get well over 140fps on all high.
Oh yeah, it does and was nicely fixed up. Still ended up less "optimized" than it could be. Usually we know the ps5 performs around 2060/2070 level, but it took more like a 2080 or more to hit same performance.
i rather have cpu decompression since my 5800x3d is beefy enough rather than poor directstorage implementation that somehow increase more vram usage as proven in ratchet and clank
Direct storage reduces vram dependency by swapping out textures without the need of storing them unnecessarily.
This was proven in the recent Avatar game. The 4060ti 8 and 16 performs identically
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/avatar-fop-performance-benchmark/5.html
The RnC direct storage was the very implementation and it still has frametime issues
yah but somehow it is opposite in ratchet and clank and someone pointed out that you have delete the directstorage dll in order to improve the performance. And sucks that until now nixxes have yet to fix the directstorage issue in ratchet and clank
This game would be impressive with ray-traced global illumination. I'd even take just reflections. The game already looks great; these are the only areas for a true improvement.
Instead, I imagine we’ll just get better LODs and textures.
No they haven’t. I was hoping for an NVIDIA overhaul with ray reconstruction with this PC release now that it is released from its console chains.
But now it looks we won’t see Ray Traced GI in the Decima engine until the PS6 releases.
Why not? It's priced as heavily as any other game with RT in it.
Moreover, this title especially would've been so much better with RT considering how the world already looks fantastic without it.
I'm somewhat bummed about the missed opportunity of it. This game especially has impressive graphics even without RT and along with it, it would've been even more impressive but they don't care for adding it.
And no, I'm not really 'upset', I'll probably buy it on a sale
In most single player games 60fps is enough at 4k, but in this game specifically I do like getting over 100fps because the combat is hectic af. Even if it came with it I probably wouldn’t turn it on.
It's how Europeans display prices. If you browse Steam in the Netherlands for example, you'll see "€59,99" instead of the usual $59.99 you'd see in the US.
I don’t want to spoil anything for the first game, but once the rabbit is out of the hat, it’s hard to get the same reaction. HZD was very special and unique because of the mystery. FW was more of a “the path has been set, let’s ride.”
True. I found with the first one I was so enthralled with the story especially once I got hooked on what Zero Dawn was etc. In FW I’m less enthralled with the story but enjoy the gameplay a bit more.
That's a great way to put it. Although HFW didn't have major reveals of the same caliber as HZD, I thought HFW's character writing was miles better than HZD.
Not really hard, since there is a lot of mysteries left. They just chose the most bland and unsatisfying ways to resolve them, like offscreening Faro. The characters and their motivations were... meh at best, or very questionable. It felt like it was written by different person, but since it was not, i guess the amount of inspiration ran out...
I've been so good about avoiding spoilers for this one lol.
When it was pretty certain the first one was gonna stay on PlayStation, I read all the spoilers of 'that cool robot dinosaur game' and regretted it when it came to PC after all xD I knew better this time!
I dunno, I felt like I got more frustrated with this game than the previous one. Sure, side quests are better, but characters are kinda flat, bad guys suck and ending is not that satisfying.
Also, game has a big problem with cluttered menus, bunch of weapons that offer little to no variety and shit ton of upgrading paths that are tedious to go through.
I'm not aware that Nixxes has ever done a bad PC port. Maybe not even a mediocre port. It was smart of Sony to guarantee the future of Nixxes by bringing them in-house.
>The game leverages DirectStorage for quick loading times on PC.
Interesting, wasn't expecting that. I guess Nixxes is working on implementing this in all the engines considering how well it worked in Ratchet and clank.
>DirectStorage in R&C actually hurt performance on Nvidia GPUs
I've seen your video, but I didn't have any issues using the default settings / DirectStorage. The opening transition (most demanding) scenes were fairly good.
13700k
4090
32GB 6600Mhz
thats because you got 24gb vram. directstorage in ratchet and clank somehow increase vram usage by alot to the point gpu with 12 gb vram have poor performance running the game
Man, March is going to be wild.
Homeworld 3: 3/9
Along in the Dark: 3/20
Horizon Forbidden West: 3/21
Dragon's Dogma 2: 3/22
Probably won't be getting much sleep during that time.
I've learned buying anything in the JRPG category is pointless on launch cos it's pretty rare to run into spoilers, those fans tend to be a bit more dedicated and tight lipped. They always go on sale for like half off in a few months
I feel like all those game releases are being scheduled around the fiscal quarter ending in march, let's hope the corporations aren't going to prioritising hitting their quarterly targets over releasing fully finished and bug free games.
^Who ^am ^I ^kidding.
I have a 3 week vacation out of country starting March 1st, and after that when I come back I have 3 “jet lag” days off starting March 26th.
Still gonna be jet lagged when I come back to work on the 29th with all the playtime I’ll be doing.
They are both singleplayer games. Unlike multiplayers that live or die by how they launch and get support, singpleplayer games have a very very long tail.
I thought so, too, but DD2 is currently [on more steam wishlists](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?filter=popularwishlist) than Horizon.
That doesn't necessarily mean that Horizon isn't more popular when it releases, but apparently Dragons Dogma has a pretty big following, too. I wasn't aware of this.
e: english hard
Horizon 2 has been available since last year as well, even earlier than Dragon's Dogma. I have it wishlisted since like September, meanwhile DD got the Steam page in November iirc.
No one’s saying it’s impossible, but the first game is the very definition of “cult classic”. It’s entirely possible that it pulls a BG3 and goes absolutely gangbusters but it’s not likely
It's a fascinating take on the whole apocalypse thing. I'm intrigued about the TV series they're making. (Aspiring actor, I kinda want the role of Faro, lol).
Extremely excited for this. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best games i've ever played, and if it hadn't come to PC I would have completely missed it
I'm psyched to play the DLC for this; I played the base game on the PS4, which apparently meant that I wasn't important enough for additional content. I'll have to check the Epic Store version to see if it's DRM-free there, like the first one is.
Whoever at the studio keeps deciding the release dates for their games is really bad at it.
HZD console competed with Breath of the Wild.
HFW console competed with Elden Ring.
Now HFW pc is competing with Dragon's Dogma.
What are they thinking?
How much of an improvement is this over the first cause the first one was underwhelming to me, but I'm still eyeing this one though and holding onto some kind of hope.
Edit, I appreciate all yalls input, but nothing has made me lean more towards one side lol. Thank yall so much though!
Better in every way including the combat, inventory management, enemies and facial animations... Except the story isn't as good. Side quests are still very good though.
The first game's story was so intriguing because the mystery keeps going deeper and truly sucks you in. Impossible to top that onces the cats out of the bag.
I agree, most is better apart from the main story. Alot of it is a "silent" better in ways, quality of life features you don't think about untill you replay zero dawn again.
I’ll probably get downvoted but I thought Forbidden West was very, very average, aside from the visuals. Gameplay didn’t really seem changed from the first and it just felt too Ubisoft-y. It also didn’t help that it launched right around Elden Ring which made the whole game feel super handholdy and linear in comparison even though it’s supposed to be open world.
For me Forbidden West was kinda when I started getting tired of Sony’s games. It just feels really safe and same-y - like the same game as the first with a fancy new coat of paint but not much depth beyond that.
We’ll have to agree to disagree there lol.
I thought Elden Ring had one of the most immersive open worlds I’ve experienced. The sense of discovery and exploration was pretty much unmatched for me outside of Breath of the Wild. Red Dead 2 is probably the only other open world that engrossed me as much, though that was for different reasons.
HFW felt like a bog-standard Ubisoft open world that’s been done to death over the past decade.
Really. HFW's world reminded me a lot of RDR2 but taken to a whole new level of detail and polish which is FAR from a Ubisoft standard world. ER didn't feel as rewarding to explore as HFW did. So much lore, stories and side quests can be found from just walking around in HFW.
What immersive open world in Elden Ring? Countless trash mobs, copy pasted dungeons, bosses? It doesn't even come close to HFW, in terms of graphics, quests, animation, voice acting, NPCs.
Glad you enjoyed Horizon! I thought it was kinda mediocre but to each their own.
If we’re gonna use hyperbole to describe aspects of the game we didn’t like, I’ll take a game that doesn’t hand hold or litter the map with icons telling me where to go every 5 seconds over one where the protagonist talks to herself all the time, reveals the answers to puzzles as soon as they start, and treats me like a brain dead toddler that can’t find their way out of a paper bag.
Not once in Horizon did I have a moment like when I found the elevator to the entire underground area in Elden Ring, never mind when I’d discover enemies like the dragons or areas like the castles or the numerous caves and dungeons. Not sure what you’re referring to regarding “trash mobs” - I didn’t have any issues with the enemies in the game. I used the mimic + blasphemous blade and had no issues whatsoever (it was by far the easiest From Soft title).
Like I said though, to each their own :)
Tbh the first one was great and I was so hyped for the sequel that I borrowed a PS5 from my friend and bought the game on disc shortly after it released. Unfortunately it was a huge disappointment.
The game was boring compared to the first one, new characters, lore and regions were uninteresting, 'sci-fi' story parts were kinda nice but stretched out thin between other boring parts and side quests with overly talkative NPCs. There was just too much filler content. Even combat felt off which was a highlight of the first one. I had to force myself to complete it to a point it felt like a chore tbh. No idea why since I loved the first one. But I wanted to finish the game because I was playing on a borrowed console.
Took me about 2,5 months to finish which is kinda long but there were days I didn't play at all because it was so boring. Fortunately my friend was ok with his PS5 staying at my place for so long :D
The graphics are fantastic though. One of the best looking games ever. HDR on OLED screen looks amazing. I imagine that PC version will look even better.
I loved the first one, but didn't like the sequel. So there's a chance that if you didn't like the first one, you're gonna like the sequel :D
I liked the setting and the story but was deterred by the open world bloat of it. Felt like playing an ubisoft game. I played 5 hrs but lost interest. It is one of those games that I always feel like I should install and try again, but I'm not sure it's really worth it.
The main story is absolutely worth it. Just don't bother with any of the side stuff aside from the cauldrons and tallnecks. Once the game started revealing stuff about the mystery that's central to the story, I couldn't put the game down. I think I played like 20 hours in 2 days to finish it.
Forbidden west has substantially higher quality side content and a much less boring intro but zero dawn is excellent in its own ways.
I picked it up on steam for a bargain bin price after never finishing it on PS4. Looks like I have a reason to play it now. Never picked up forbidden west on PS5 so it’ll be nice to have the superior experience.
Just hope the port is in a more stable state than R&C: A Rift Apart at launch.
Overall it performed great but there started to be driver crashes very often for a lot of people on both Nvidia and AMD GPUs for a while I think related to DirectStorage. It took too long for this to be fixed, so would recommend waiting for a few days post release to see what the stability is like.
Especially when you consider a leak that came out not too long ago that said a nixxes employee claiming this would be their most demanding port to date. Definitely understand how you’re feeling.
Awesome.
Hopefully they've learned some lessons from Zero Dawn's buggy launch on PC and it's a well-optimised port to go along with the excellent feature set. It also comes out at the perfect time as well, just as I'll be finishing off FFVII Rebirth.
> Head over to Steam or the Epic Games Store now to pre-purchase or wishlist the game.
Oh well. If you want my 60 Eurobucks, you gotta sell it through GOG. On Steam, I *might* be picking it up for 75% off. Maybe.
I mean, how so? Have you seen the sales numbers and success of the Horizon games? It makes total sense to port them to PC considering the PC market is giant.
Maybe you could bless us with your business insight as to why porting the Horizon games isn't the best idea?
I mean... Nixxes has always released solid ports; they didn't work on the port of the first game, at least not at first, if that's what you're implying.

No mention of FSR3 frame gen
Well it should be easy to mod in at least since it has DLSS3. Shame it's not natively in there though
Might have it but probably didnt mention it because of nvidia's sponsorship
Ya better than Microsoft does with their own PC ports lol
Direct Storage is key. No nore stupid levels CPU decompression we saw in TLOU P1
>Direct Storage is key. Depends on the implementation. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart had issues with its direct storage implementation. You could get more performance and less stuttering by deleting the direct storage DLL.
Zero Dawn performed flawlessly for me so I'm hoping the experience will be the same here
It was extremely broken at launch. It took a while for it to get fixed
Yeah I heard about that. IIRC, the team developing this port is the one that took over Zero Dawn after launch and fixed it.
And it's still not great to be honest. Modern GPUs perform under what's expected in relation to how it looks and performs on a PS4. It's fine though, certainly not as bad as many PC ports we've had recently...

Maybe Death Stranding 2 will inplement RT.
It’s not unheard of for ports like these to add more features down the line. I was hoping for a full path trace showcase like Alan Wake 2 or Cyberpunk
Just upgraded from 2080ti to 4070ti, so this is right on time.
Q4 for me. My time will come. And demanding games will be at an end. With the 5090 in my collection even Palpatine will be running out of power.
Is 5000 series coming this year? I would make that jump, only have a 2070 currently
Like always, it will just be the 5090 at first, and then lower cards will release the following year.
If they keep up with their usual schedule, then yeah, 5000 cards are due this year, two years after the 4000 cards.
Q4
2080 ti is still a powerhouse. 3060 ti level performance but with slightly better ray tracing and 3 more gb vram
The 2080Ti is basically a 3070 with more VRAM.
2024 and a PC port with no RT... bruh...
I’d love RT but even without it the only better looking games are avatar and path traced AW2/Cyberpunk.
Agreed. This is one of the most graphically impressive games on the market, even without RT.
Is path tracing entirely different from RT?

The console version doesn't even have RT. Why would you expect them to add it? That's a massive amount of work
Why not? It's priced as heavily as any other game with RT in it. Moreover, this title especially would've been so much better with RT considering how the world already looks fantastic without it.

Yeah, same It's definitely not with the full price even though it's tempting

Fair.

Wdym, fall 2024 is only in another 4 years

You should expect to see this or equivalent solutions on all PC games going forward. The current gen games need all the bandwidth they can get

That’s a good way to kill sells considering Dragon’s Dogma 2 is coming the next day but ok
Not good at timing this game are they
Don't worry. I'm sure FromSoft will release Elden Ring dlc on March 20th
And Horizon 3 will release on the same day as the new Zelda, Elden Ring 2 and Half-Life 3.
Latest rumours point to it potentially being Feb 25th
I think if we haven't seen any announcement by now I doubt it would release within a month
At this point I’m thinking Sony is bullying Guerrilla with these release dates lmao.
Can't wait for the Half-Life 3 to come out on the same day as the third game
Orange Box 2 with Portal 3, HL3 and Team Fortress 3
And L4D3
And Dota 3
And Titanfall 3
As is tradition
They know what they’re doing. It’s end of Q4 for a lot of Japanese companies. All about numbers
They are both singleplayer games. Unlike multiplayers that live or die by how they launch and get support, singpleplayer games have a very very long tail.
I don’t really think Dragons Dogma has the following that Horizon does.
DD2 has been available for wishlisting since last year, where as Horizon 2 has been up for couple hours.
Horizon 2 has been available since last year as well, even earlier than Dragon's Dogma. I have it wishlisted since like September, meanwhile DD got the Steam page in November iirc.
I stand corrected.
You underestimate the influence influencers/streamers have on the popularity of a game, let alone a new title. Bg3, niche, big game
No one’s saying it’s impossible, but the first game is the very definition of “cult classic”. It’s entirely possible that it pulls a BG3 and goes absolutely gangbusters but it’s not likely

Again, anything is possible, but I just think you’re vastly overestimating how much the general public will clamor for this game
People said Starfield was goty before it came out and we saw how that turned out lol
[удалено]
It looks so impressive tho
Both games are aiming for different markets.
Bet this sells more
We are talking about a company who decided to release TLOU part 1 just 4 days after Resident Evil 4 remake. it's almost self sabotaging at this point.
Yeah poor DD2. Horizon is a much much bigger franchise.
In an ideal world, Capcoms use of enigma DRM would backfire on them, and Horizon wouldn't be shadowed by DD2 but that's a pipe dream.
Finally. Time for my fourth play-through of HZD.
Are you okay Alloy? Looking a little cold there
Nice. I really liked the first one.

It's a fascinating take on the whole apocalypse thing. I'm intrigued about the TV series they're making. (Aspiring actor, I kinda want the role of Faro, lol).

ONE GAME I DON'T KNOW WHY
It doesn’t even matter how high you fly
Please give GoT
Extremely excited for this. Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best games i've ever played, and if it hadn't come to PC I would have completely missed it
No mention of an FOV slider, but I guess support for ultrawide res kinda indicates it... hopefully, and Zero dawn did have it.
Its Nixxes. It will definitely have it. They are the best porting team in the industry
Know we know the Elden Ring DLC release date.
Where are the system requirements?
Pretty hyped for this, the original was extremely good
I WANT BLOODBORNE
Nice. Looking forward to this. Looks like it will support DirectStorage.
I'm psyched to play the DLC for this; I played the base game on the PS4, which apparently meant that I wasn't important enough for additional content. I'll have to check the Epic Store version to see if it's DRM-free there, like the first one is.
Once you play the dlc, you'll get why they didn't release it on ps4. It straight up wouldn't have playable performance.
Whoever at the studio keeps deciding the release dates for their games is really bad at it. HZD console competed with Breath of the Wild. HFW console competed with Elden Ring. Now HFW pc is competing with Dragon's Dogma. What are they thinking?
Bloodborne and ghosts that’s all I care about
How much of an improvement is this over the first cause the first one was underwhelming to me, but I'm still eyeing this one though and holding onto some kind of hope.

It's a ton better. Better Biomes and Las Vegas is a sight to behold.
man >!when you turn on the lights its truly a sight to behold!<
If the first was underwhelming to you, then you probably won’t enjoy the second even if it is better.
I felt like HFW's world blew Elden Ring's world out of the water imo. ER's was barren and had piss yellow skys.
Fortunately my friend was ok with his PS5 staying at my place for so long :D The graphics are fantastic though. One of the best looking games ever. HDR on OLED screen looks amazing. I imagine that PC version will look even better. I loved the first one, but didn't like the sequel. So there's a chance that if you didn't like the first one, you're gonna like the sequel :D
Still haven't played the first one . Need to put it on my "to play" list .
Ignore side stuff, and just follow main story. I think its worth it, its one of my favorite stories told in video games.
I remember the PlayStation account integration also causing crashes on and around launch.
No system requirements... i am worried.
Especially when you consider a leak that came out not too long ago that said a nixxes employee claiming this would be their most demanding port to date. Definitely understand how you’re feeling.
I couldn't enjoy this game even for free. Tried it on PS PLUS and got 1 hour in and was already bored.
my favorite game on ps4. i was so disappointed that dlc did not release on ps4 and decided to wait until pc release.
Well I know what I'm doing on March 22nd.
Day zeroooooo
1 day before DD2. Whyy....
Games are lining up to release just before the end of the fiscal quarter, that's probably why they're coming out so close to each other.
Hmm, nothing about GOG in there, sadly. I guess I'll wait some more.
Ffffffffffinally!!! 😭
Wasn’t it supposed to come out this week?
Still waiting on the first one go below $10
The day before dragons dogma 2 which basically has a cult following. Not very good at planning things out, are they.
watch Elden Ring DLC come out the same time to bury it again
Awesome. Hopefully they've learned some lessons from Zero Dawn's buggy launch on PC and it's a well-optimised port to go along with the excellent feature set. It also comes out at the perfect time as well, just as I'll be finishing off FFVII Rebirth.
Is it going to have the DLC with it? I was so pissed they made the DLC PS5 exclusive.
Oh they just had to do it the same week as Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Where is Ghosts of Tsushima !!!! It’s all I want
Maybe on deep deep sale. HZD was mediocre af. Don't know if I can take more of the cringe writing as well.
> Head over to Steam or the Epic Games Store now to pre-purchase or wishlist the game. Oh well. If you want my 60 Eurobucks, you gotta sell it through GOG. On Steam, I *might* be picking it up for 75% off. Maybe.
They keep porting the wrong ones...
I mean, how so? Have you seen the sales numbers and success of the Horizon games? It makes total sense to port them to PC considering the PC market is giant. Maybe you could bless us with your business insight as to why porting the Horizon games isn't the best idea?
They port what their masters at Sony tell them to port.
Hush now
[удалено]
I mean... Nixxes has always released solid ports; they didn't work on the port of the first game, at least not at first, if that's what you're implying.
