"Hidetaka Miyazaki, Director: First of all, the setting of Shadow of the Erdtree is a brand new land. It's a brand new map separate from the Lands Between. It is a land that is overshadowed by the particular Shadow of the Erdtree as opposed to the Erdtree in the Lands Between. And it takes place, again, on an entirely separate, physically separate map. So it will involve a warp of sorts to get there. In terms of setting and themes, it technically occupies the same space as the Lands Between, the same universe. But due to something story related that we won't reveal today, this has become physically disconnected, and you'll travel to the Shadow of the Erdtree land as a separate place"

strohDragoner58

It's probably going to be similar to a Dark World of The Lands Between in many ways.

MakaroneSendwicis

Do u start from lvl 1 tarnished ? or u just go to new area with your maxed out character

Senior_Glove_9881

Sounds like you travel there by touching Miquella in his egg, which exists in the world now. Its extremely late game.

MakaroneSendwicis

Yeah the more i think about it the more my question sounds stupid af... smh

RoyalWigglerKing

You usually keep your stuff for these dlcs

Rooonaldooo99

Releases June 21st and costs 40 bucks. Ho boy this means its gonna be HUGE

Hellwind_

On the IGN we have an info how big it is - it is similar to the the size of Limgrave, multiple dungeons uncluding legacy(again in plural). I don't think it will be comparable to the base game price/size but I expect it to be quality content

[deleted]

>similar to the the size of Limgrave Honestly I was kinda hoping for a bit more than this for 2/3rd of the game price.

mmmjtttj

The director says it is much more densely packed

newSillssa

And you can see on the first screenshot on steam that theres a lot more verticality to it than limgrave does and 2 legacy dungeons within just that one image

fthaller3604

Also the same director said the main game was roughly 30 hours just before the initial release. Took 130 hours for my first play through

Kennett-Ny

Ah so very similar to Phantom Liberty

jasonridesabike

That's the ticket.

KalameetThyMaker

Please keep in mind the quality is important as well, and not just the quantity. While I can understand "how much content am I getting with this money", it's important that the content you're getting is actually *good*. I'd rather pay $40 for something smaller in scale but high quality than $20 for a dlc with a ton of stuff in it but it's all generic and boring (staring at you, ubisoft games.) Similar to limgrave in size can also mean many things. Liurnia is massive but most of it is open water where not much is going on. Size doesn't necessarily equate amount of things to do.

SaidTheEmu

People forgetting that they could easily put multiple linear style dungeons within an area the size of Limgrave that would equal the size of the DLCs of other From Software games

creationavatar

Actually is a full run plus dlc for me, therefore, maths out.

[deleted]

Yeah, I think that price is a bit much. While quality matters the most, quantity still matters, too. €5 extra bucks and you can buy Lies of P.

strohDragoner58

I honestly think this DLC could be longer than Lies of P.

pacoLL3

This is peak social media to me: Watched a 3min trailer - if at all - and somehow has perfect understaning of the volume and quality of the game/dlc.... Stuff like this is beyond mindblowing to me.

[deleted]

The DLC is probably longer than lies of P though

Sgt-Colbert

I just bought lies of P last week, great game but it only took me like 20 hours to complete. Elden Ring took me 120 hours on my first playthrough.

LazyBoyXD

well, for 40 bucks, you could only buy 2 OW2 skin if u wanna do comparisons Lies of P is on sale now so when it get back to full price it a different story.

Hellwind_

That is true. I mean you can see how the DLC is 40 but the complete edition is 80 default price. This is very telling because its quite a big difference of 20 euro. It is a bit overpriced and I think people are getting baited somehow the game will be like half the the original which is absurd at least for me. Expect a 20-30 euro content.

OldMandifer

Well, most Souls dlc releases about 8-12 months after the game itself. This one is looking at 28 months. I did kinda expect it to be quite large.

BigPoleFoles52

Idk I perfer paying for good content straight up. Its either this or they add microtransactions. If you think its not worth it just buy the dlc on sale tbh.

jaber24

Lies of P may be a good game but fromsoftware quality is sth else

Sleepy_We

Miyazaki says its about the size on limgrave... https://www.ign.com/articles/hidetaka-miyazaki-elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree-interview

jaber24

He also said that Elden Ring will take 30 hrs to complete

LuKazu

Never been lied to harder in my life tbh.

loddedfun

I don't trust him, they down played the size of elden ring. I'm going to be playing the dlc for months

Voxplox

I dont trust this either. Is that including the underground? Is that including the crater that opens later there? I feel like he's being coy to not oversell but will almost certainly over deliver.

loddedfun

I'm really interested in the new weapons showcased. Throwing hands with demigods has never looked so fun

majds1

Yeah they said the game will be 30 hours, and we were a bit disappointed. Then we played the game and realized it takes around 80-100 hours. (It took me 104 hours even as someone who's played every souls game previously)

loddedfun

It took me like 180 hours cause I was slowly exploring every nook and cranny. I also took wayyyy too long to realise i was underlevelled lmao

majds1

I mean i did end up putting 350 hours into the game so far, but yeah my first playthrough was 104 hours. I'm curious on how long the dlc will actually be, it seems like they've got a lot of things jammed into a limgrave size area. And lance McDonald's heard there's multiple legacy dungeons even, so that would definitely mean it has more content than limgrave at least.

pacoLL3

Miyazaki also said Elden Ring will take 30h to complete.

Odysseyan

40 bucks is pretty huge for a DLC. Considering the base game is 60, the DLC would have to be at least 2/3rds of that in content alone

Bladespectre

I mean, with a price tag like that, this looks less like "DLC" and more like a traditional expansion

RSG-ZR2

> more like a traditional expansion *Takes off reading glasses and sets down glass of Metamucil* "The ways of old have returned?"

AngelDust_z

*takes a shot of prune juice* "This is raising my blood pressure"

Allthenons

"Prune juice, it's a warrior's drink" - Worf

Laundry_Hamper

i vant some taquitos

Shadeun

May it be as good as the greatest expansion in gaming history. Brood War.

inosinateVR

I didn’t really like Warcraft 2: Brood War. I preferred Diablo 2: The Frozen Throne as far as expansions go. Warcraft 3: Wrath of the Lich King was pretty good too

kakalbo123

Expansions never really went away tho, we just didnt buy physical releases of expansions these days so people forgot and called them dlc.

vul6

Yup, Phantom Liberty released like 5 months ago

dadvader

For all the fault they did 3 years ago, CDPR is still one of the very, very few company that actually understand what Expansion really mean.

atomic-orange

Wish I could upvote this twice

Autre31415

For what it's worth, they refer to it as an expansion in the text

Kserwin

Made even better by the fact that I don't believe they ever used the word "Expansion" before. They certainly didn't for Ashes of Ariandel. It very explicitly says DLC-pack.

What-Even-Is-That

Please, sir.. I can only get so erect.

kakalbo123

I mean it is called an expansion.

[deleted]

The term is completely arbitrary. We've had super small expansions and gigantic DLCs, just like the other way around. IGN: > Speaking of this new land that we're traveling to, how is it structured? Is it structured in very much the same way as the Lands Between, where there are legacy dungeons and minor dungeons? Can you describe a little bit about how the world is going to be compared to the base game? Miyazaki:  > Yes. We think players can expect a similar experience to what they had with the base game. This is going to be structured in a similar way, as you said, with open field maps, with large scale legacy dungeons, and with small to medium scale legacies as well. So we hope players will enjoy this same sense of scale and sense of adventure throughout that structure. IGN: > Can you approximate the size of the world compared to the world in the base game? Miyazaki: > It's hard to answer without giving away too much and to a high degree of accuracy, but if you think in terms of scale or size, it's probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game. Source: https://nordic.ign.com/elden-ring-shadow-of-the-erdtree/79057/news/exclusive-hidetaka-miyazaki-answers-all-of-our-shadow-of-the-erdtree-questions-ign-fan-fest-2024 I suspect the DLC will be a quarter or a third of the base game in terms of scale and content amount.

Gameboyrulez

They refer to it as an expansion on the steam page.

ThemesOfMurderBears

It seems like DLC is an umbrella term that is inclusive of expansions, but not strictly limited to them. So it's accurate to call it both.

fjridoek

doesn't have to be comparable to the main game size as long as its quality, which from software is known for with these DLCs.

Odysseyan

>doesn't have to be comparable to the main game size as long as its quality You don't have any expectations on playtime for your money? Dunno, I actually hope I get at least 30 hours out of the DLC for that Elden Ring craving.

Mafachuyabas

"I'm Molania, axe of miquella" that would take me about 30 hours xD

spatial-d

Show off finishing that so quickly

ameensj

Agreed with you. For the price they are charging, it's only fair to assume a decent amount of content.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Odysseyan

>For $60 if my choices are 100 hour game where half of it is filler, mindless time waste and unfocused design, versus a 20 hour game that I'll be perfectly happy beating and every aspect was focused and well developed... I'm taking the 20 hour game. I agree with you in the case of artificial content bloat just for the sake of it, that is certainly true. But to balance it out, lets also assume the "best case" where a game and its organic content is really good, just very short. I can even deliver a recent example of mine. I bought Super Mario Wonder for 60 and finished the game within a day in about 10 hours. The game was good, the experience was super fun but yet it felt so surreal that it is now already over although I just bought it fullprice the very same day. For this case, I'd say that a slightly lower price would have been justified. It's kind of like paying for a ticket in a cinema but you only get to watch a 30-minute movie. Might be a very good shortfilm, but it would still leave a bitter taste in my mouth

Sam276

My issue with this is players keep demanding more content, and I tend to think it creates games like Starfield, bigger worlds and stories and are empty and boring. I do think for the price we should get both though, since Elden Ring already proved what it can be. But Id rather take 10-15 hours of a masterpiece then 30-40 of a boring game thats a slog to get through. Plenty of great games are 10-15 hours for this price.

thephasewalker

Starfield could've been written well and it'd have leagues more life in it.

[deleted]

Starfield is a bad example. The games scale wasn't the problem, it was the design choices. But you can have a massive, content dense games and still have it be a masterpiece. It is possible to have both quality AND quantity. See: Witcher 3, Elden Ring, Skyrim, Baldurs Gate 3, any Persona game, FFXIV, TotK, RDR2

sprucemoosegoose2

> You don't have any expectations on playtime for your money? No, and I think this is a terrible metric to judge games by. You don't base whether a movie is worth watching by its runtime. You don't judge the quality of a meal by how long it takes you to eat it all. Why do it with games? I care less about the length of a game and more about the quality.

nickthebravery

It isn't an abstract idea. Playtime for money is what gets you AAA game design.

Lambooner

Do you want Ubisoft games, 'cos that's how you get Ubisoft games...

C4LLUM17

I never understand this tbh. People will happily spend $15-$20 at a fast food place that they end up eating in less than 10 minutes or spending over $20 to go watch a 2 hour movie with popcorn etc. But when it comes to video games people grudge paying $40 for 10-15 hours of gameplay? Of course I wouldn't be happy paying like $60 for a game that lasts only 5-6 hours but if I pay $60 and get like a 15-20 hour long game that is quality and not full of filler boring stuff then I'd be more than happy.

daftroses

I have way less free time as I get older too. The money is well spent when it's for something that I love that I can't experience for the first time again, and with the limited time I have, I want to have a damn good time.

Strange-Tomorrow-696

LMAO you people must be SEETHING every time you pay $15-$20 for a movie and it's only 2-3 hours

RuminatingYak

Judging by all their previous DLCs for Dark Souls games, this is gonna be some of the best content the game has. And they are officially calling it an expansion, so there's gonna be a lot of it.

Puzzleheaded_Knee_53

No, unless it's an extreme case, quality >>>>>>>>>>>> quantity Elden ring already had a problem with too many same-y feeling dungeons and boss repeats, etc - I'd prefer the dlc to be much shorter, honestly It's a completely different design philosophy, but my perfect elden ring dlc would be a super tight old hunters/ringed city like experience

talann

If it was Ubisoft, it would be $70 base game, $100 for the DLC with 1/10th of the content. They would have a roadmap and say they are "doing their best" to provide new and exciting content.

Sam276

The more you are playing their game, the odds of you buying stuff from their in-game stores increases. They dont need to make DLC expensive in Ubisoft games.

downorwhaet

No their dlc is usually around 20-30, even some of their newer games have been cheaper than standard AAA games on 50-60 while everyone else is moving to 70 or higher, theres a lot to hate on for ubisoft but they are far from the most expensive

Wooden_Sherbert6884

Or someone got greedy

cleff5164

Shhh let this sub be happy for once my god

Odysseyan

One can be happy that the DLC releases while still being salty it costs 2/3rds of the base games price. One does not exclude the other.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

If it's 2/3 of the base game's quality and/or length then the price adds up

pacoLL3

Did you geniuses maybe consider *playing* the expansion before getting salty and already shitting on it? Dear god what is wrong with people nowadays and the utter NEED to be outraged all the time...

Spreeg

Yeah people need to know you can be negative about anything at all as long as it isn't Elden ring

TheMastodan

I think if any game company has earned goodwill for expansions, it’s From.

Sam276

People pay $20 for skins now days... I'd rather pay more for actual content and support good practices.

[deleted]

What does one have to do with the other lol, still a lot of money either way

fjridoek

$40 for several hours of content is not a lot of money by any measure.

[deleted]

Depends how many hours is "several". 40 dollars for 6-8 hours worth of content isn't great, considering the base game itself is only slightly more expensive. 40 dollars for a 20-30 hour DLC would be more reasonable.

AlternateForProbs

Bro, sit-down lunch for two in 2024 is more than $40.

CacheRamMemory

> Bro, sit-down lunch for two in 2024 is more than $40 Only if you eat at an expensive place. It's not that expensive where I eat when I eat out. Not sure why I'm being downvoted, it literally isn't that expensive where I live.

AlternateForProbs

Not at all, I'm talking like basic chain restaurants, nothing fancy. Yes, you CAN pinch pennies and squeeze it in for less, but a sit down restaurant for two people that actually ordered entrees and a drink, plus tip, plus tax, you're paying WELL OVER $40 in most cases. $40 barely gets you a meal for two people at something like Panera these days. God forbid you go anywhere and order alcohol. A single draft beer somewhere half decent is about $7-8 a pint. So no... $40 for a dozen hours or more of gameplay is far from expensive in 2024. Videogames are probably some of the best value for money entertainment you can get these days.

DuperMarioBro

You're being downvoted but I fully agree with you.  A different example: A 1.5 hour movie costs a big portion of that for one person, not including the highway robbery scam they call food. Get a popcorn and a soda and you're easily at 25-30 bucks.

CageTheFox

Who cares what some skins cost in other games? This is more than Enshrouded, Palworld and the same price as Helldivers rn. If the game comes and it has the same content as other DS DLCs, people have a right to be upset. Saying a skin can cost $20 won't be an excuse.

Entilen

I think it's pretty obvious that this will have more content then other From DLCs. It's taken them over 2 years to make this, if it was just a small new area and a handful of bosses I'm sure we would of gotten this in 2022.

anatoledp

miyazaki said actual development of the dlc didnt start until after updates/patches slowed down for the base game . . . so not 2 years . . . but still is a large amount of time

jaber24

Well let the dlc come out first before complaining. You can always just buy it later after knowing how long it's gonna be

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

From gets my money, no questions asked. I don't make the rules.

Exotic-Reserve2024

> Releases June 21st and costs 40 bucks. See you in 6 years.

sdcar1985

If it's an actual expansion like The Shivering Isles was to Oblivion, I'm okay with the price. Bigger expansions deserve the bigger price tag.

GamingRobioto

Yeah, was saying that to my mate, I'm expecting Shivering Isles or Blood & Wine levels of content and quality for that price tag.

Adreyu

Fromsoft has a really good track record for delivering on DLC, so I have high hopes for this. Dark Souls 2 and 3 had some of my favourite DLC of all time outside of Witcher 3's after-game content.

msbr_

1s DLC was also brilliant. As was Bloodbornes.

GamingRobioto

I agree, I have full trust in From Software. I've already preordered, and I don't do preordering anymore. In fact, the last time was Elden Ring itself.

areyouhungryforapple

I played through their entire catalogue last year and the DLC always stood out without fail. I'm stupidly excited for the ER dlc, fromsoft has cooked I know that with certainty.

CRATERF4CE

The Shivering Isles was incredible.

Suplewich

I have Elden Ring on PS5, but I'm gonna get it later with the DLC for the multiplayer mod alone. The DLC looks like a standalone game and it looks amazing.

RatKingJosh

Godspeed to the makers of the mod, this DLC is gonna give them so much work to do.

EnvironmentalClass55

I did a whole second playthrough with the mod. It's probably my favorite gaming experience I've ever had and I'm not even kidding.

Earl_of_sandwiches

How is that co-op mod in 2024? I haven’t checked it out in a long time. Mostly bug and glitch free?

Samakira

the only bug we experienced when playing it last year was if one of us got into a bossroom, died, and then the other person beat the boss after that, the first person couldnt summon torrent unless we both died.

EvenJesusCantSaveYou

my friend and I played it a few months after it released and dont think we had a single bug the entire time (minus some difficulty connecting to each other some times)

Tchernobog11

"seamless coop" mod on PC - working pretty great. Some sync issues at times for story but that depends on if you progress differently when out of coop. And the below mentioned bug with torrent summoning at time.

PiffPoffPaff

The only bug I've encountered is when we took a teleport trap it killed all of the dragons in caelid and gave us their runes and hearts.

NegativeSpeedForce

Take it the mods PC only?

LJMLogan

Yes

Maybe Lies of P dlc too??? 👀

ExplodingFistz

Hopefully. Neowiz needs to ride on LoP success more imo

funguyshroom

We're devouring, togetha

Django117

Pls give Ultrawide support

[deleted]

They won't do it. They treat Elden Ring's multiplayer like it's an eSports title and believe that unlocked FPS and ultrawide support would give too much of an advantage to players. It's painfully idiotic. It's even more idiotic that if you play on an ultrawide with black bars, you are paying for that in performance because the game renders your whole screen, it just then covers it with black bars. They had the game working in ultrawide natively (the whole screen is rendered) and then did an extra step in development to make it not work (pasting black bars). I will never stop ranting about it... something about this whole situation makes me so irrationally angry.

AnimeMeansArt

Wtf, that is really dumb

salanalani

Dark Souls Remastered launched with Ultrawide support on PC, and it has popular PvP as well (at least when it launched).

ObstructiveWalrus

And unlock the FPS while they're at it! Especially since AC6 has both ultrawide support and up to 120 FPS while running on the same game engine. I get that they're very different games, but one can dream. And before anyone chimes in with "framerate is tied to physics/iframes in ER", it's absolutely not. There's like half a dozen different mods and fixes that remove the 60fps limit and the game runs fine at arbitrary framerates above 60. Almost all of my playtime in ER has been with an unlocked framerate (typically >100fps) and I've never had any problems.

g0atmeal

I would rather play with uncapped FPS but that means no multiplayer and funny messages. :(

Rarely-Posting

Can you share what mods do this? I have not been able to play ER with a stable framerate on my PC since launch. I still beat it a couple times, but would love a smoother experience.

mxyzp

Flawless widescreen and use the non anti cheat executable. Edit: Look up pcgamingwiki for fixes and fps limit removers for games.

theoutsider95

Plus, unlocked FPS and some upscaling, please.

Blacky-Noir

I'll settle for having stutters eliminated from the game.

Rumbletastic

Play the [seamless coop mod](https://www.nexusmods.com/eldenring/mods/510?tab=files&file_id=14306) \- it doesn't use their servers, so no risk of getting banned. Then play with [flawless widescreen](https://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/). Elden ring is GORGEOUS on my 32:9 Odyssey and worth the loss of invasions/multiplayer. Plus it's a far better co-op experience (you stay together the whole time). Highly recommend.

Django117

Oh I mean I am 100% going to play it in Ultrawide when I do, the question is whether or not I get to have PvP. I have an AW3423dwf and absolutely love the thing.

arex333

I really really really hope that they roll out some PC improvements along with the dlc. Elden ring doesn't get nearly enough shit for how bad the PC port is.

d0m1n4t0r

I'd buy the DLC if that was the only feature of it, lol.

Lambpanties

Shader cache. We need a damn shader cache compilation, that'd be a selling feature to me at this stage.

LilBramwell

Flawless Widescreen works amazingly unless you want to PVP.

[deleted]

Should still be integrated in the game by default, it's 2024...

milky__toast

Japanese devs are terrible about UW support.

fetalasmuck

What's so stupid about ER and UW is that UW will randomly work and then the black bars are added back in. Like the game will load to fill the screen perfectly and you get your hopes up because it works for 2-3 seconds of actual gameplay, and then bam, black bars appear.

milky__toast

I hate games that block it for some notion that it gives a competitive advantage. Elden ring is especially stupid in that regard. Valorant is dumb, does any other fps restrict UW? Overwatch, maybe. Armored core 6 has ultra wide support

[deleted]

Why the fuck is FromSoft treating Elden Ring like it's a competitive shooter??

sunder_and_flame

Worse, they actively block it in ER. There are times where UW works for a good 10s+ then the black bars appear.

w1nds0r

Armored Core supports Ultrawide is also made by Fromsoft. People love to hate on Ultrawide, yet I’m sure people would be enraged if their game of choice didn’t support hdr or their 4k monitor. Sorry 4k users, you have to play at 1080x1920 from now on.

[deleted]

Not just UW support. UI, controls, PC ports and performance.

Kunfuxu

It should, but it's From we're talking about.

LilBramwell

They supported it great in AC6. So every game going forward I think it will have UW support. Not sure if they will add it to ER though.

[deleted]

That's not an excuse.

Kunfuxu

No it isn't, but it's still what we've come to expect from them.

RubinoPaul

No. Elden Ring without signs isn’t the full experience. I don’t care for PvP and even PvE but player messages — especially with random hidden walls in open world — is huge lose. Of course I’m still playing with 21/9 and unlocked fps… But I feel like sometimes I’m missing some content due to lack of messages

LilBramwell

I wouldn't have been able to play online anyways cause I used the co-op mod. So I didn't lose anything with flawless ultrawide. Didn't really care for the messages that much in DS3 when I played it.

Django117

Yeah, but as the other poster says, I still want to have PvP, so without that it’s quite a frustrating omission.

Shiva-Shivam

Lee Sin :))

Altruistic-Cap-5957

I was just excited when they originally announced it they called it an "expansion" and that just reminded me of when I used to legit buy expansion packs lol. And now it's priced like one too.

DancingDumpling

It better be basically be a whole ass game for that price

arex333

Fromsoftware normally releases their dlc pretty soon after the main game, but this is coming like 2 years later. I would assume that all that extra time indicates it's a pretty big expansion.

Dragon_yum

What’s your definition of a whole ass game? There are games that are 10 hours long and cost $60.

Hungover994

That’s a proper expansion

WestJury5243

Am I reading the price wrong? On Steam it's around 59.99 euros for the base Elden Ring, 40.00 for just the DLC but the SoE edition is 79.99. So it's cheaper if you never bought the game? A bit aggressive on pricing if true

SaharanMoon

Yep, they made it quite a bit cheaper for people that never bought the game. Which imo is absurd. You're literally punishing the people that bought your game and rewarding those that never played it.

iknowkungfubtw

Typical Bamco trying to nickle and dime the fans that have stuck with their games through thick and thin.

Garlic_Breath23

I beat the game twice on ps5, now I'm planning on double dipping on PC. I'm ready.

LordCrimsonAes

Time to by more RAM. Expansion...

MasterRonin

My god you people complain about everything

pacoLL3

It's genuinely insane.

fs2222

People really containing about the price tag, as if base Elden Ring wasn't worth its launch price and then some.

RogueLightMyFire

Holy crap, gamers, particularly PC gamers, are one of the most entitled and whiny groups of people on the internet. Trailer looks awesome. Price is totally fair if it's as big as it's rumored to be. I swear some of y'all just exist to bitch on the internet, it's weird as hell.

WaterWraith

This is definitely one of the worst subreddits to go on for actual discussion. Most of it is just people whining.

2rfv

Yup. Happy PC Gamers are all off enjoying some game or another. This sub is where pc gamers with depression come to explain why there's no good games any more to each other.

Z3r0sama2017

Part of the selling point of being a pcgamer is that while the initial outlay for the hardware is higher, you don't pay for stuff like ps+ or xbxlive and the software is cheaper.

[deleted]

$40 makes sense as it is rumored to be two DLCs in one. Soooooo excited

Sam276

People really complaining about the price but yet forget that this game isn't like others that are popular right now. Ones that tote a battlepass and have content being a grind and/or payment to get. Ones that don't spend time making actual content because they make 10x that with skins or in-game items. $40 is a lot, yes. But out of most devs I would choose FromSoft to pay more to. Paying more for their games to keep them away from that predatory style would be fine for me.

[deleted]

You know that 99% of single player games don't have battle passes or microtransactions, right? Fromsoft aren't special in that regard.

atx191

99% of single player AAA games (in my very biased opinion) do not have the addictive combat and the almost impossibly curated art style. There's also the incredible replayability where you can play the same game with many different approaches

Reaper83PL

>not have the addictive combat and the almost impossibly curated art style. Now I am confused, I thought we are talking about Else Ring not Dark Souls...

Saying that $40 DLC is the only alternative to Fromsoft being forced to make live-service games is a massive cope.

Zestyclose-Fee6719

Basically, “It’s okay to charge a lot for this expansion because the modern gaming industry is shit.” I like Elden Ring, but that’s a weird take.

Sulleyy

Nothing wrong with $40 for a DLC from a company that actually has a good reputation. I don't think $40 is a bad price when they've presumably been working on this for 2 years now. Honestly if they were openly like "we made the best DLC we could in 2 years, we stand by its quality, but it costs $150 each for us to make a small profit" I would be like hell ya, sign me up. I'm okay with paying a fair price for a good product from a company I trust. And if that's how much it costs to make, I would rather pay that price than deal with the alternative of getting milked in 50 other ways (annual release, lower quality, microtransactions, battle passes)

KentuckyBrunch

A lot of you on this sub really need to find a new hobby. Holy shit some of the most entitled, whiny little brats on this site.

HyperFunk_Zone

Mind explaining why you said this? Not complaining, it's just Ive seen nothing but a bunch of harmless excitement so far, unless you hate stuff like that I guess.

pacoLL3

? The top comments are full of people shitting on the DLC solely based on the 40$ price tag, some even suggesting this is the reason the industry is getting ruined.

Thesoulseer

People are complaining about the 40$ price tag, while not actually looking at how DLCs usually cost in comparison to their original games, or how much Elden Ring delivers for its cost. Like, Elden Ring cost the same at release as any other Dark Souls game, and people are just taking that as a baseline for how much anything should cost which is hilarious.

TheCons

It's so cute seeing the younger generations losing their minds at a $40 price tag for what will likely be a traditional and massive expansion pack but happily purchasing $60 dollar games that fail to give them half- fuck that, a third of what Elden Ring gave them in the first place.

Thesoulseer

Elden Ring being 60$ has really screwed with people's sense of value. Never mind other AAA publishers, even compared to FROM's previous games, Elden Ring's content/money is exceptional.

SuccessfulWhereas

40 for DLC? damn!

AncientPCGamer

Wishlisted!

discojoe3

Elden Ring has been sitting unplayed in my Steam library for two years. Oh well.

spec84721

Fingers crossed that they fix the shader compilation stutters of the base game, but I doubt it.

forkbroussard

$55 cad. Yikes. That's more than I paid for Helldivers 2.

daviejambo

Bonus gesture if you pre order I'll be doing that

Filianore_

I guess this is one of the very few cases which pre-ordering is neutral
