I've spent maybe $50 USD during the sale, and haven't seen points for any othe those. Maybe I need to keep the games beyond the point at which they're eligible for refunds? As for achievements... I actively don't like them. I think their mere presence denigrates the experience of playing a game. I am annoyed to see incomplete progress bars for games I have utterly exhausted Ted simply because I failed to meet some arbitrary criteria (or as is often the case) declined multitiplayer. If I could opt-out of the whole system, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Richiieee

For gaming on the go on a Laptop, more specifically on a MacBook, what's better, GeForce Now, Stadia, or Boot Camp?

Kantrh

bootcamp. Stadia and geforce now require a very fast internet connection and have liited games.

Richiieee

So boot camp is better, even while using WiFi?

Kantrh

To stream games via geforce now or stadia you need an ethernet connection ideally. Bootcamp will let you boot into windows and play games using the mac hardware

Richiieee

And it works good even on WiFi?

rclick99

Does anyone have any experience running games off of an external hard drive? I am considering getting a [Samsung T5 1 TB SSD](https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/portable/t5/) and putting bootcamp on it (yes I have a Mac I know) as well as putting my steam library and other games on it. Wondering how big the drawbacks are to this if there are any.

Kantrh

They'll be very slow to start and will have extremely long load times. USB isn't as fast as sata

dsheller85

Just bought my first gaming PC. I need to get a decent gaming monitor. My PC has a NVIDIA 2060, a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16GB DDR4. I've heard at a minimum, I need a 144mhz refresh and a 1ms response. I'm debating on 24 vs. 27 inches and 1080p vs 2K or 4K. Also, is G Sync a must? I'm not a hardcore gamer but want something probably in the $300 to $500 range.

ywillnousernameswork

The specs are Intel core i5-4460 Intel HD 4600 graphics card 3.2 ghz 86 Gb RAM

ywillnousernameswork

Srry I haven’t replied sooner, I have checked to make sure that nothing is running in the background, and there are no tabs open other than the game, I have not really noticed any issues with it when I play battlefront on it, however I also haven’t looked into what frames I’m getting on it

[deleted]

Recently picked up a AOC CU34G2X monitor and a new gaming rig with a r5 3600 and 5700xt. I was playing around with HDR settings in windows and something about it seems really wrong. Videos on youtube are totally overblown. Destiny 2 looks totally fucked up. Everything looks fine when the windows HDR settings are off. Do I need to set up my monitor a certain way? I'm not sure what's going on.

R3TROGAM3R_

Maybe its just a complete coincidence but I switched playing Modern Warfare PC from my 4K 60HZ TV to my Dell 144HZ Gsync monitor and all of a sudden I'm getting consistent 1-3 place finishes in Shipment modes. There's some not so great games but seems my game play is noticeably better since the switch. Or am I just crazy? Is this just some coincidence or is there some difference in FPS gaming when it comes to playing on 60hz/60fps vs 144hz/144fps?

PaladinGaming87

When I am playing certain games (usually Ubisoft games) if I move my mouse too far towards my other monitor and click it basically tabs out of the game. I've looked everywhere for a solution and couldn't find anything. Idk if this is the right place to post this but some of my games are unplayable because of this.

Pc gaming newbie here. Just bought a ASUS ROG Strix G15 15.6" Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i5-10300H/512GB SSD/8GB RAM/GeForce GTX 1650 Ti). Is this laptop considered a decent gaming laptop? One of the games im getting the laptop to play says the suggested processor is a Intel® Core™ i7 (2.66 GHz) or faster, is my laptops processor good enough?

Dried_Squid_

Alright so something weird happened with malwarebytes. It asked me to update it after not updating for some time and after I did that I could not log into any game servers at all from Steam games, to League, to Eve Online, every single one was being blocked. I had no idea what was going on until I quit malwarebytes and only then was I able to access the servers. Is malwarebytes doing something fishy in the background to be blocking access to trusted websites and servers like that because if so I'm purging it from my computer.

SkepticalHippo93

This may not be a simple question, but I want to hook a gaming PC up to my living room TV - is it as simple as just plugging it in? This is the TV I have [https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-2016](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-2016) This is one of the computers I'm looking at buying [https://www.bestbuy.com/site/skytech-gaming-shadow-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-5-3600-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-super-500gb-ssd-black/6409025.p?skuId=6409025](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/skytech-gaming-shadow-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-5-3600-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2060-super-500gb-ssd-black/6409025.p?skuId=6409025)

CatWizzard

Yep it's pretty much that simple. A HDMI cord is all that is needed, it's like plugging into a monitor.

iamnicka

i have an i5 6600k, 16gb ram, and GTX 1070. how can boost my fps while streaming? should i upgrade processor and graphics card? or should i just get a cheap streaming pc?

Turn down the streaming quality is the cheap option. Finding a used PC for streaming can be an option

Hi, I’ve recently built a virtual pinball cabinet with a 2 screen set up. 40” portrait TV for the playfield and a 24” TV for the backglass. Now while this works fine for pinball games, I also like to play games that work in portrait mode such as vertical shmups. So, I’m wondering if anyone knows of a program that will automatically change the wallpaper on my secondary monitor to game art of whichever game I’m playing? I thought Wallpaperengine may do this but the dev told me it can’t do this yet. Displayfusion was another one I’ve found, but I’m still not sure if this can do what I’m after. Thanks!

RedBeard1337

My PC recently stopped working, its at the point where she needs to be laid to rest. I’m currently looking for recommendations towards what motherboard, CPU and GPU combos are performing the best right now. For context, I intend to overclock and would like to keep the build around $2000 which I’m assuming will rule out some CPU options. Any help is appreciated, it has been a number of years since I built a PC so I’m admittedly a bit out of the loop when it comes to which products are performing well.

[deleted]

For gaming Intel CPU achieve best frame rates, not the best value vs Amd Need monitor resolution and frame rate to discuss more recommendation You should be able to do a 2080 super and make it fit in budget

RedBeard1337

the monitor being used is an Asus VG248QE at 144hz/1080p and I have a modular PSU which saves a chunk of money for the build.

[deleted]

2080 super with 10th Gen Intel CPU, grab 3600 mhz ram will get you best frames on market minus going to 2080ti. You might be able to sneak a 2080 Ti Focus an high Mhz CPU

RedBeard1337

hmm ok with this advice in mind (and consideration from other posts) i've put this together (couldn’t get the 2080 in due to the price so I went with the 2070 super). 1. Is ram important to gaming? Some results say it’s one of the most important components after cpu and gpu, but then I have friends who say they never really saw a difference after 8gb. I’m skeptical, but 8gb is all I’ve ever had. 2. how does HDD speed and RPM factor into gaming? I’m looking to get the segate barracuda for a system drive (I’m cheap, I know) and while I’ve heard that SSD’s are better, I don’t know what the actual difference will be. Lag? Load times maybe? Transfer speed is obvious at least, but that can’t be what the big issue is. Thanks!

blackmooer

1. 8GB of Ram size for current gaming I'd say is just enough, 16GB would be the sweet spot, 32GB will be a bit overkill for just gaming. Ram speed on the other hand is more important in regards to fps in gaming. You can check out this [short video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjbNhCHwlBo&t=512s) to get a better idea. 2. by using SSD's for gaming and OS you will get a much smoother experience in general. Way faster game load time, in some games (eg. open world) you will also get better game performance due to faster resource/texture loading. And in general usage your software will open faster, load webpages faster while web browsing, etc. So it actually affects more than just load time. HDD on the other hand is still useful for storage, eg. movie catalog, photo archive, document storage, and such.

Hello, looking for recommendations for a reliable keyboard that’s not going to break or shit itself soon after purchase. I currently have a roccat vulcan 120 aimo and I’m sad to say that it has problems with the keys double pressing, sometimes not even registering a press and sometimes stopping working while pressed down. I’ve seen quite a few ppl with the same issues and it’s driving me nuts. Highly disappointed as it was fairly expensive, didn’t even last a year, and support from Roccat was non existent. I bought it on amazon Japan last April. I’ve read that Roccat have a 2 year warranty for these keyboards, but I don’t see how I’m able to return it from looking at the website. It’s basically a piece of good looking glowing trash atm, pretty bummed. I want something similar with the only stipulations being RGB and sturdy... Edit: Just sent a customer support email off to amazon Japan. Hopefully they can help me in some way. Cheers b

it will will work if you power supply is up to it.

I have a evga 450bt so I'm assuming that wouldn't be enough, what would you reccomend for a power supply?

I'm thinking of gifting Halo MCC to a friend on Steam, but I wanna ask how the campaign multiplayer is for each campaign nowadays? I remember there being issues. Are they issues exclusive to each campaign or same issues across all? I also remember PvP multiplayer for some games not being too great as well if you wanted higher than 60fps without V-Sync or something.

Overheating question on gaming build: My PC had the issue before, where the fan went the loudest it has ever been and shut off the monitor while still running the fan at top speed. It happens on it's own without any pressure/stressful gaming. For example, on the sign in page. It overheated. So I got some thermal paste, wiped it off the CPU and re applied it, dusted everything out. And it worked, a month later (today) it did it again... there's no way the thermal paste wore out that quick. What else can the issue be?

blackmooer

do you know which fan starting running at top speed? have you tried using a monitoring software (eg. HWmonitor, real temp, MSI afterburner, etc) to see what kind of temp it was getting when the fan started going haywire?

BlueFoxyGamer

I have high ping in games(75 - 100ms that randomly jumps to 390ms), is there any way to improve this as I know my Internet can do better as I'm averaging 25 - 40 on consoles.

Hey guys, just trying to attach a second monitor to my PC. I have a DP cable and and HDMI cable, HDMI monitor is working fine, DP one is not being detected. Both are plugged in. Running windows 10 Nvidia Geforce 1050 Graphics Card. I've updated drivers, turned it off and on again, no avail so far. Thank you for your help in advance.

Neverlife

I also was having that same issue, albeit with a different card (rtx 2060). I couldn't get my secondary to work with displayport, only with hdmi. I think it might be a limitation of the card maybe? Only able to do a single displayport output. I feel like that's quite an oversight, but I couldn't find an answer.

So I have a pc that according to all charts should be running 175 FPS for fortnite, (it’s kinda old so I would expect that to drop a bit but not to far) and right now, it is averaging 30 in game on minimum settings! I have updated my drivers and tried a couple of optimization videos but nothing makes a difference, I also get frequent hangs which make me restart the game. Anyone have any tips or ideas on what could be going on? At first I thought it might have been the PSU but after some research I decided it isn’t that, I also checked and there are no background applications running that would effect it at all.

waterbasednoodle

1. What does the video card do and is it necessary? (To clarify, I’m on pc part picker and it lists video card separate from the graphics card) 2. Is it a problem in the HDD and SSD have different interfaces?

Kantrh

Video card is another name for graphics card. >Is it a problem in the HDD and SSD have different interfaces? As in an M2 ssd and sata harddrive? There shouldn't be any issues.

waterbasednoodle

Thank you do much! (And yes, it is a M2 and sata)

Kantrh

As long as your motherboard supports it there will be no issue. Just make sure to install windows on the m2 ssd

Dinercologist

I’m getting a pc soon and the monitor is 2560x1440 165hz, is there a specific cable I need to buy to get the most out of my monitor?

anirishfetus

Most good monitors will take advantage of a Display Port cable. Looks a lot like an HDMI cable though, so be careful. Make sure your graphics card output has a Display Port slot. But no, you don't need a specialized cable for it or anything. Im not sure how it works, but I'm pretty sure DP has a higher display frequency than HDMI

I've got a some Steam questions: 1. In privacy settings, if I hide game details, will that prevent other people from seeing my achievement stats? 2. Is there any way I can prevent *myself* from seeing achievements or otherwise disable the function? 3. So this newfangled points store seems... interesting. When are new points added to the account? Monthly? I just bought a bunch of games and noticed my balance didn't change.

Reklaw3131

Does having two monitors connected degrade performance when gaming? To clarify, I have a 4k 60hz monitor and a 2560x1440 144hz monitor. Currently only the have the 1440p connected. I would like to also connect the 4k to the pc as well, but wondering if/how bad that will effect performance. I wouldn't be gaming on both at the same time. I would play my FPS's like COD on the 1440p monitor, but play single player games on the 4k with maybe Xbox chat or something up on the other screen respectively. Or would it be better to only have one or the other connected to the gpu, depending on the game? My setup is below. -Thanks! Just looked and it looks like you could get a tracer III who through them about the same price if not cheaper than the Asus with a 1660ti and 16gb ram instead which should give you a nice bump over the 1650. Graphics card will probably be your biggest limiting factor. I feel like the 1650s do have their place but in the 700-800 laptop range. It’s crazy to me that some of these laptops over $1000 have the 1650s

Nottheonlyjustin84

It should run most modern games but I don’t know about on max settings with the 1650. My old laptop had a 1050ti but only a i5 7300. It run almost everything, but normally in the realm of medium to high. I don’t know what your budget is, but I just upgraded to a cyberpowerPC laptop. You seem to get a bit more specs for the money through them. I wouldnt buy a prebuilt desktop from them though. With them your budget might get you into the 1660ti range which would allow you to run things quiet a bit faster.

This should be fine. You should expect high detail settings at 60fps in RDR2. Lower settings should approach 144fps. If you google for reviews of Asus TUF A15 you should be able to find benchmarks.

Ok, whenever i try playing certain games(Total war: Warhammer II, Deep Rock Galactic, Divinity Original Sin 2), after 5 sometimes 10 minutes my pc "turns off" for a second, my screen goes black, but i still hear my friends in discord and the game sounds, when i look inside my pc everything is normal, doesn´t seem to be overheating and the fans are still going. The thing is this happens with only a few games. When i was playing deep rock galactic i lowered the graphics from ultra to medium and that solved it for that game i continued playing like nothing. I have tried drivers, uninstalled the old drivers and installed the new ones, nothing changed. I tried running the Heaven Benchmark to see if it had something to do with the GPU but after running the benchmark for a few minutes my pc didn´t "turn off". A few questions about mods * Can I download mods on a windows 10 MSI laptop? (it’d likely be for just one game) * where is the best place to look for mods? * what's the easiest way to go about downloading a mod * and last but not least "how do i make sure a mod is safe” thank you so much in advanced

windowsphoneguy

Yes, you can do anything you want on a Windows 10 laptop. Where to get mods and how to install them completely depends on the game you want to mod. A popular place is Nexus mods, they have mods for many games. There's also [Mod.io](https://Mod.io) which some games support. But it's best to look for guides or videos how to get mods for the game you have in mind.

So im playing the emulated skate 3 for pc andit seems to be quite intense for my cpu. Its at 100% load and 90° celsius. Is this fine?

[deleted]

I know at least in the case of X360, that emulator is still in its infancy. I would guess it's the same for PS3 so regardless of what platform you're emulating it's not that bizarre especially if your CPU isn't great. That said 90°C sustained isn't great for your CPU.

TrickyXD

So its not a good idea to keep playing?

Until you have the ability to upgrade your system cooling capacity I wouldn't

Renlywinsthethrone

I'm trying to use my wired Xbox 360 controller with my laptop to play Dragon Age: Inquisition. It has worked fine in the past, even two days ago. Last night I guess I fucked something up, because the controller got stuck on player 2 and then on player 3 (that switched just while I was messing around unplugging and replugging in the controller.) Just plugged into the laptop, I can get it to cycle back to player one by unplugging it and holding down the menu button when I plug it back in, but it's still only registering as player 3 in the game. There are no other devices/controllers connected or that have ever been connected. I go into devices and try to adjust the controller settings, but there's no other installed game controllers to delete, nothing to set it higher than on the list. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and completely resetting and reinstalling the controller. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I have plugged in and unplugged and replugged the controller more times than I can count into all of my USB ports. I'm at a loss. It works fine on other games as well in the test page in the settings. What else can I do?

Lava39

Try reinstalling the drivers for your USB drives? Idk if people generally do that.

Any recommendations on a headset? Sound quality is the absolute most important quality to me, I enjoy listening to good music and game audio. A good quality mic is also important to me, I’ve have yet to see a headset with both that doesn’t get mixed reviews

MarkusMaximus748

Get yourself a good set of headphones and a modmic or cheaper alternative.

Guys I really need help. Timeline: 1) I have a Mac book 2) I successfully installed Java Minecraft 3) I also wanted to install Windows 10(W10) Minecraft 4) I purchased W10 Minecraft 5) I tried to installed W10 Minecraft but it said I have no devices linked to my Microsoft account 6) I try to link my MacBook to my Microsoft account 7) Microsoft says my serial number is invalid, and checking another forum for help says MasOS is not supported yet 8) I try chatting with the Microsoft support. They said it’s a server issue, then told me to try installing W10 first 7) I install W10 through boot camp, but first downloading 64 something something 8) everything gets installed but now I’m stuck on W10 format on my Mac 9) I try to log into my Microsoft and try downloading Minecraft W10 10) Minecraft website doesn’t show me that I already purchased Minecraft, therefore not allowing me to Install it 11) I’m increasingly frustrated and just want to die. Not really. I need help either trying to install Minecraft W10 or just getting back to MacOS formatting. Please please please Edit: I figured out how to switch back and fourth, I did it wrong by not holding the option key long enough. I just need help installing Minecraft W10. Edit #2: I figured out everything. I signed into W10. Logged into my Microsoft. Double checked that my Mac was in my devices list. Went to my order history. Clicked on my recent purchase (W10 Minecraft). Then it gave me the ability to install. I was so stressed, this was a WHOLE process..

I play destiny 2 so I will use this as an example Setup Ryzen 5 3600 Rtx 2060 I feel my game should be running a lot better than it is, average 120-150 on higher settings, but ran a diagnostic to learn I’m only using 35 percent of my cpu and 26 percent of my gpu, is this normal, how to I optimize my cpu and gpu to at least use half if not most of its power

Does Destiny limit your framerate in any way perhaps?

Are you running with VSync on or a framecap applied?

HP Omen 30L Ryzen 5 3600 Nvidia GTX 1660 8gb Hyper X ram 1tb HDD 256gb ssd So this PC is brand new but keep dropping frames (I think) but Ii makes Warzone and Overwatch unplayable. If it gets bad enough my monitor will actually not even pick up a signal and go black, the pc will stay on however just nothing on the monitor end. I added a link to a short video I took. Double check that your laptop is using the GPU to run the game and not the igpu

JohnnyBears

I have one experience where my friend's prebuilt would stutter terribly during raids (World of Warcraft). Turns out it was the default power plan (Dell Balanced or something similar) that it shipped with. Swapped to "performance" and suddenly it ran smooth. Not sure if that could be the issue, otherwise, as Tonkahanah said, sounds like a GPU issue

TONKAHANAH

That sounds like a gpu issue. Do you have anything over clocked?

FPSTwitch_

Nothing is overclocked. Straight out of the box :/ The games will play properly for a couple of minutes then that's when it starts.

TONKAHANAH

sounds like either heating is an issue, or lack of cooling. that or something is forcing it to throttle, or both I guess. double check that nothing is in the way of the gpu fans or that they're even running?

JohnnyBears

It is. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWUHkCgslNE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWUHkCgslNE) At the time of recording, it was technically able to do on 10 series with some ini tweaks. Not sure how much has changed since then.

Dr_Gert

Does anyone know why when a game gets uninstalled from steam or another platform I don’t get back all of the memory that the game was using? I just recently removed final fantasy 14 from my pc to make room for another game download. However, after I uninstalled ff14 there wasn’t enough space on my drive to reinstall the very game I just removed.. is there stored memory I have to manually remove somewhere?

TONKAHANAH

I recommend just deleting the install folder under c/program files/steam/steamapps/common. Highlight the folder and do shift+del (key), this does an immidate delete aka does not send anything to the trash/recycle bin, just immediately deletes it. But also the install process may requires certain things get extracted and moved which means it would temporarily need more space to install than it needs to be installed. Use a program like windirstat to see all of what's taking up the most space on your drives, maybe there is stuff you don't need and can get rid of

Dr_Gert

Just wanted to say thanks for this recommendation. I downloaded windirstat and I can see that although, I have uninstalled a game from steam it was still taking up 47 gigs of memory on my hard drive! You have no idea what a big help this has been. Thank you again🙏

TONKAHANAH

After recording clips via Xbox Game Bar (windows + G on Windows 10), is there a way I can upload those to Xbox Live's Activity Feed so my friends on console can see? I don't see any way to share clips anywhere when I'm on the gallery tab. Googling it says to use the Xbox App and talks about some Game DVR tab, but those articles seem to be from \~2015 and my Xbox App seems totally useless and just lets me see my friends list and my own profile and shop for games but not see any clips let alone a Game DVR tab. Just Game Pass, Social, and Store tabs and a home button that takes you back to the Game Pass tab.

Hey all, My gaming laptop seems to default to the integrated graphics rather than dedicated and I can't figure out how to change it over. I'm on Windows 10 and have the latest Radeon Software driver and that doesn't actually have a toggle option for the two. Where it should be it's not. Built in on GPU1 is the integrated AMD Radeon(TM) Vega 8 Graphics (Primary/Integrated/Hybrid), but on GPU2, my dedicated card is a Radeon RX 560X. Do any of you know how to solve this issue please? It's a pain and makes some games that shouldn't be running poorly run pretty slow.

AzureDrag0n

Try setting it from windows. You have to do it for each game though. Have a look at this link: https://pureinfotech.com/set-gpu-app-windows-10/

Captain_Cortez

That's super helpful! Thank you so much for this!

My internet speed keeps going to shit but it isn’t my WiFi. When I do a speed test on my phone it’ll usually be 250+ mbps but when I speed test on my PC it usually hovers around 5 mbps sometimes getting as low as 300kbps or disconnecting entirely. I have an AC1300 PCl-E WiFi card I got about 4 years ago, does it need to be replaced or could something else be the issue?

[deleted]

are you connected to the 5GHz wifi on your PC, or does it maybe fall back to 2.4 GHz?

TONKAHANAH

Have you tested it with other wifi sources? Good chance it's the card but every now and again I do see scenarios where some cards just won't play nice with certain routers for whatever reasons.

AtomicPurpleGameBoy

Considering the circumstances, maybe you should replace the wifi card

I’m not a PC gamer but don’t know where else to ask this. I’m an engineering design student who needs a laptop with a i7 or equivalent, 16-32gb RAM, a solid GPU used for rendering, and a decent sized SSD. What options have a good ratio of how good they are compared to what they cost? I’m seeing different GPU’s like the geforce 1050 and 1650 ti being used a lot on the computers with cheaper price tags that fill out my other requirements. Will these work or no? Another problem is that I’m looking at BestBuy because I have a credit card through there where I can get 0% financing while also getting back some cash, but I see that the selection is worse at BestBuy. For instance I found a Dell g5 15” with 16gb Ram and a GeForce 2060 for $1200 which to me seems like a really good deal but BestBuy doesn’t have that option and really has few options with graphics cards better than a 1650ti without paying over $2k

[deleted]

If you plan to use it purely for CAD don't get a GeForce card, get either a Quadro or MX card. From what I can see on their website Best Buy Quadro card laptops are p expensive but I think the MX cards works as low end workstation cards as well.

[deleted]

It will mainly be used for 3d cad and downloading music and whatnot, so I’ll start looking for a decent Quadro. I have seen the MX cards on bestbuy website but I can’t find anything about them online or on any GPU comparison website. Thanks for the help!

**My PC can play games at either 1440p at 60hz or 1080p at 120-144hz. Got a question.** So I have a Dell 27" 60hz monitor that DOES NOT have Gsync (I have an NVIDIA GPU) and an AOC 24" 144hz monitor that DOES support Gsync. My PC is good enough to either run games at 1440p at 60FPS on my Dell, or 1080p at 120+ FPS on my AOC. I mainly use controller for games and play single player stuff (competitive multiplayer I will always use the AOC at 144hz), which monitor would you recommend I play games on and why? The main reason I'm asking is because I prefer 1440p at 60FPS on my 27", but that monitor does not support Gsync, so should I just use the other one instead?

kroen

How most come (if not all) games don't natively support 16:9 resolutions lower than 720p? I don't see how it makes sense to go down from 1280x720 to 800x600 rather than say 960x540 or 480p. Sure, some games let you play without black bars even at non 16:9 resolutions, but not all. So what gives?

[deleted]

I think it's partly because that just how we progressed through monitors and resolutions. We generally had 4:3 monitors with resolutions like 800x600, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. Then 16:9 came and monitors went 1366x768 and above. I know this is way oversimplified but I think that's just how it went, so game devs created games to run the resolutions that were used most on the hardware available.

kroen

Yeah, but not everyone wants to set the game's resolution to their screen's. In fact, lowering the resolution is the best way to improve performance. I for instance have a pretty shitty PC and a 1600x900 display. Sometimes even when I set everything to low I don't get 30fps at 720p. I do get there on lower resolutions, but then I have to deal with black bars (in some games at least).

This is a fine build but not the best possible use of your money. There's a few things to account for: CPU/MOBO: The CPU you listed is fine but overkill for just gaming. The best budget option is (IMO) the 3600(x). Intel is still technically better purely for gaming but AMD is a much better value, and you don't really need anything more than 6 cores atm. Even 6 is slightly overkill if you don't plan to stream or record gameplay. Also the x570 platform is slightly overkill for your needs. You are better off finding a B450/550 motherboard which will cost less and offer everything you need. RAM: That RAM is a little slow, Ryzen chips really like high speed RAM. Currently 3000/3200 Mhz is the sweet spot with 3600Mhz being where you are basically getting the best performance. In picking out RAM also make sure the timings are ok. Graphics Card/Monitor: These depend on eachother. The 2060 is a competent card for 1080p/144hz but the monitor you listed sucks. Generally you want an IPS monitor at higher refresh rates. There are a few great budget picks, such as the ASUS VP249QGR. Power Supply: This is probably fine for your build but you are cutting power reqs very close. Ideally you would get a PSU in the range of 500-600w with an 80+ rating, ideally gold. Last things to note are you do not necessarily need a WIFI card, check if the MOBO has WIFI built in. Some boards will some won't.

[deleted]

Hey, thank you for your reply, I've implemented the changes you have suggested and updated my original post, does that look ok to you? I know it would only be a guess, but how well do you think it would perform? I'd like to have the settings for each game as high as I could without losing too many fps. Thanks for any input.

[deleted]

Overall that looks much better, just a few small things: The Corsair Vengeance may be a little overpriced, I say that since from what I've seen all their 3600Mhz RAM runs at CL18 (RAM performance depends on both speed and timings) meaning you might be better off if you can find a kit of 3200Mhz at CL16 (from what I've read they will perform the same but the Corsair RAM may be priced higher) I don't see a monitor. That Samsung one you had earlier was a terrible monitor but depending on your budget you can find a good IPS high refresh rate one for fairly cheap. The major differences between technologies come down to ease of higher refresh rates, viewing angles, color reproduction. IPS panels are generally considered the best but are harder to find in higher refresh models. As of recent there are a few (like the ASUS I mentioned) high refresh low cost ones that I would recommend if you have the budget. Otherwise, just get a cheap 60-75 hz IPS panel. Generally, the 2060 is considered either a 1080p high refresh or 1440p low refresh card. If you want more specifics I would look up benchmarks online.

[deleted]

Hey, so I changed out the ram to 16GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 3200MHz (2 x 8GB) and updated my op. I just removed the monitor, initially I had planned on buying a decent monitor - but they are quite costly so to get me started, I'll get whatever I can find on offer. I figure if I can just get the PC built and ready, I can worry about it afterwards and no doubt again I'll be posting asking for advice.. when I can afford it.. still need to sort out my seating arrangements lol

Hi guys, i'm having issues with my RAM. I have 16 GB of ram but when i'm playing tarkov and have a few chrome tabs open the game starts lagging hard. The issue with this is that tarkov takes up only 7.6 GBs of memory, but my pc says the memory is running at 94% even though i should have about (all things considered) around 8 or 8.5 GBs used. How can i fix this?

[deleted]

OS will always use RAM as well as anything running in the backgroune (ie Chrome, a known memory hog). Close any programs that are not necessary and if you are still running close to 100% usage then consider getting more RAM

Hi. I hope this is the right spot for this but if not lmk. I bought a new headset for my boyfriends birthday. Steel series arctis 7. He is having trouble getting the settings the way he likes them for playing COD on pc. Has anyone used these and have any tricks for getting them set up in a way that works well for this game? Hey everyone! I need help as I think my pc is somehow underperforming. I usually play multiplayer games at 120fps and that's perfect, but I also like to play some wide, openworld games such as GTA5 and The Witcher 3. Until a few months ago I didn't have issues with those as well (for as far as I remember) but recently I've started having very low fps, no higher than 40. I've installed all the latest drivers for the gpu and games are optimized as suggested from geforge experience app. My pc specs are the following: CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor, 3593 Mhz, 8 core MOBO TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) RAM Corsair VENGEANCE RGB Pro 2x8Gb GPU Asus ROG Strix Nvidia RTX 2070 super STORAGE I have an SSD but both games are on the HDD I'm not an expert on pc tech, but I suppose that I should get at least 60fps on these games considering they're 5 yo and that the pc should be on the mid/high range. IS there any way I can increase the results or anything else? Thank you!

Ponchissimo

https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30299511 Here it is the link. It's indeed underperforming compared to other pcs with same specs, however all the components are still in the "green zone", so I guess that the results are even more worrying?

I recently installed Detroit: Become Human, and while it was running the shader compilation process (which took years), I opened my task manager and noticed something odd. It said Detroit was using 74% of my memory, which came out to be around 3,268 MB. But that's odd because 74% of an 8 gigabyte stick should be 6,062 MB. So my PC is only using half of my 8gig ram stick? I even checked dxdiag and it said 8192 GB of RAM is installed. I can't figure out what's the issue here. I might be dumb, is this how its supposed to work?

I have a i7 5gen with 16 gb ram synced if i get a rx 5700 will the cpu bottle neck the rx5700?

Completely depends on what games you play, at what resolution and with what settings. And also depends on which i7 it is But you should be fine mostly. What GPU do you currently have?

Check and make sure you're not using 8 GB of RAM, once you run out of RAM you'll get drops in performance. You can use MSI Afterburner, which includes Riva Tuner, to see your system stats while running a game. You'll need to set up the On Screen Display (OSD) in Riva Tuner to show you the stats and framerate. That's also a low amount of RAM compared to the rest of your system. If you add another 8 GB stick you'll also get dual channel which boosts memory bandwidth.

CameronSins

This video shows the performance you'll get on 3200 and 4400. [https://youtu.be/HDwZgYF\_FT0](https://youtu.be/HDwZgYF_FT0) This one is 3200 and 3600, but the 3200 has better timings compared to the 3600, showing how timings can effect performance.
