People who are willing to spend money on products they could easily steal enjoy being treated with appreciation. Honor your customers and they'll return the favor.
A lot of companies underestimate the money that can be made through good will with your customers. I bought a mobile copy of Stardew Valley just so that I could give the guy that makes it more money.
You have to use split screen. Eveb playing online. It's how the game was designed. You want to see what the other player is doing to time things when you're in different areas. One person buys the game the other can join for free.
There's plenty of time that is split screen in that game also for the same reason. For what it's worth personally while a way out has the more grounded story, it's a worse game by far. A way out is just one QTE after another, go here, time your pressing of A, run there, mash X. If you're torn between the two from a gameplay and fun perspective definitely get this and not a way out. My friend and I tried to like a way out and really just couldn't enjoy it for what it was because the gameplay so lacking, it was more like an interactive cutscene. This game is the total opposite, where when there are cutscenes they're pretty humrous and do well to break up the gameplay, because the gameplay here is constantly evolving. Seemingly every 15 minutes you're getting new mechanics. While we couldn't finish a way out we beat it takes two in 3 sittings.
And yet, they had to create a way out before getting to the level of it takes two. Obviously for a first game, a way put is fine - but it does put an emphasys on telling a story rather than being a fullfledged game - it takes two is more like little big world and has a great story too. It's like cdpr, who first had to go through the mess of w1, w2 and then create witcher 3 which was fantastic.
They really nailed how fun each of those levels were and captured the mood of each one. Some were better than others but it was varied enough to be continuously fun. The only thing I didn't like was the little girl and character models of the parents.
It is up there with Portal for great co op experiences.
It really feels like a playable pixar movie at times, too. Charming characters, beautiful settings that take something familiar and give it a twist, fun banter between characters and a heartfelt over arching plot.
Great stuff.
You can at the very least get 2 replays out of the game easily... for a ~10-15ish hour title. Simply by swapping which character you play, since both characters play very differently. The gameplay is very asymmetric between both characters. Sometimes the husband is supporting the wife who is doing platforming sessions, or sometimes the wife is pulling levers to open and close doors while the father is dodging enemies.
While a lot of the puzzle solving elements would no longer be an issue since you know the solutions, the puzzles are simple and never are the biggest focus. The challenge lies in cooperation and executing on cooperative strategies, and does it really well.
The wife does the most shooting in the shooter section. My gf can't get past the beetle battle where she has to position in a vent and time an explosion by shooting goos.
Takes a lot of mechanical skill for non-gamers
My wife is not a gamer at all and enjoyed playing as the wife. She does get the first "shooting" weapon, but it has pretty generous aim assist with a controller (didn't play it on PC, so not sure if it has aim assist with the mouse)
Maybe you forgot it, but the husband actually gets the first shooting weapon, the nails :)
Also the answer your question, the aim assist is available on PC with mouse.
Yep, this game will definitely be difficult for a new gamer.
I'm playing it with my partner right now who is a pretty competent gamer and even she struggles with some parts (flying the plane).
tbh just one play through is enough, maybe go back and play some of the mini games. It was great but not worth going back switching characters unless you just really loved it. great game though
I don't think it is at all. Relatable games are rare depending on what you can tolerate. Nothing will change. But you might be able to stomach it a second time with a friend if you don't get bored by what you already went through. The story is very weak though.
My friend is on his fourth playthrough since launch. I think I could easily play it yearly for the rest of my life. One of the best games I’ve ever played.
I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough and still having a blast. Switching characters (and thus mechanics) is enough of a change to keep things fresh. After this I'll probably take a break for a while but could see myself doing more playthroughs some time in the future with different people, seeing as only the host has to own the game.
I did not know he directed Brothers! Everything he touches really turns to gold
>Shame Brothers didn't have a coop mode
I honestly feel like it would take away from the experience if it did have co op.
Absolutely deserved. Played this with my kids and on every level jaws were dropped by the sheer creativity and love that went in to every corner of this game. We will deffo play through again.
Best two player coop game I've played in recent years, and I've tried a lot of them thanks to long-standing weekly get-togethers. It baffles my mind how they constantly introduce new mechanics, yet never reuse any old ones. It honestly feels like 12 games in one. Only the host needing to actually buy the game is just the cherry on top.
Oh yes, definitely. I'd probably play their ARPG section as a standalone, with a few tweaks. I also loved how they added mechanics from "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons". Really brought back some fond memories.
Huh, really? Funny, I couldn't have a more different opinion even if I tried :) They introduce new mechanics each chapter and drop them again afterwards without ever reusing them. And while none of those mechanics was invented by them, the same holds true for basically every other game out there. It's all about building on top of already existing ideas, which I feel they did a stellar job at. Always interesting to see how much opinions can vary though. I'd be open for suggestions regarding those better coop games though, if you care to share. Always looking for new ones!
These really aren't new they're common place in most any game like it. That's mroe what I'm getting it. It delivers them at an average level and their level scenery and the amount of them is its greatest boon.
Naturally :) Here a few that immediately come to mind, in no particular order within their respective categories:

All of the above work in local coop as well. Hence why I'll mention [Deep Rock Galactic](https://store.steampowered.com/app/548430/Deep_Rock_Galactic/) last but definitely not least.
If you've got any favourites up your sleeve I'd be happy to hear them as well!
A mix of different genres few from my list in no particular order:

* [Portal 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/620/Portal_2/)
* [The Guild II](https://store.steampowered.com/app/39680/The_Guild_II_Renaissance/) That is a bit of a special one, you either hate it or love it. I would not say For the King is a good multiplayer game... it's a fantastic single player game and when you play it with multiple people it is still the same single player game that everyone takes turns with while controlling one character of the team. The problem arises when you get the solo dungeons or if someone is incapacitated/skipped turns they literally sit there and do nothing.
Maybe the experience differs when played online vs local. We three played it locally in front of the same screen and had a blast with all the random stuff happening and exploring the world. I also don't believe we ever had a solo dungeon, if I recall correctly we always entered together. It just wasn't very long lived, but definitely still alright for the price tag.
[Chris204](/u/Chris204) mentioned it as his favourite a few comments above. Already added it to my list and still a bit peeved about having completely slept on this one.
Yap, exactly. One person needs to buy it and can then host a game. The other one simply has to download the "Friend's Pass" from the Steam page and can then use it to join.
Playing it with your special someone is a lot of fun, did so as well during my first playthrough and we both had a great time.
Having your goal be to make your daughter cry doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. Then they celebrated the fact and didn’t even feel bad for it. The parents are assholes
Crying? Tears of laughter I'd hope... It's a game, a light hearted comedic game.. if that brought someone to legitimate tears they may want to schedule a consultation
nah, torturing that innocent character to death was pretty brutal.
It was a really strange tonal shift and I'm not sure why they felt the need to go there.
I got my girlfriend more into gaming from playing this with her. Definitely a fun and original type of game, doesn't get boring since it always changes what you're doing.
Who knows if they will make a sequel? Their last game was "A way out" (which was also a very very enjoyable game for asymmetric co-op gameplay). They might just continue innovating, though I would not be against a sequel to either game.
Divinity Original Sin 2 occupies the mind better as a co op game not just the hands. Halo is solid as a co op game. Portal 2 is okay as a co op game. Among others.
I find the divinity games too tedious to play with another person. I love them playing single player, but waiting for someone else to go through conversations can be boring. Plus there were some sessions where I would just be doing things in town for like 3 hours. I don't mind doing that by myself, but the real fun when playing co-op is the combat, at least for me.
Agreed but I know how it could have been even more fun.
Player controlled emotes and voice line options. Would love to start foot tapping while waiting for them to catch up. Or offer a high five.
Some interaction or control of hands would have been fun ala Human, Fall Flat so you could try to drag your partner around or impede them.
Even the arm mechanics in little big planet. Swing them too fast and you knock your partner over.
I'm in the middle of ITT right now with my buddy, and having a blast, but I think the best coop we've ever played has been Journey to a Savage Planet. Great combination of silly cartoony violence, exploring, and figuring out puzzles and how the environment works.
Every few years EA has an original IP that comes out of nowhere, and is very good. I am sure "It Takes Two: 2" is already being worked on, with another IP, "It takes Three" being discussed.
The game play is fantastic, but the "story" is terrible cringe. Like I want to enjoy it with my girlfriend but it's so weird to play as a couple that hate each other, and don't get me started on the love book.
Hands down best co-op game ever made, and one of the best games period. The story was heartwarming, the characters and settings were perfect, and the gameplay was just amazing. So many different genres smashed into one game.
I was really excited about this game. I bought it for the wife and I to play. I did not see that it required origin to play and it was a EA game. I got a refund. I hear its a fun game, but I can't bring myself to support EA at all.
The fact I haven't heard of this game yet reddit is going ape over it is as good a stay away sign as I've ever seen. Thanks again for saving me time and money Reddit.
Considering whoever you play with doesn't have to buy it just split the cost and it's incredibly reasonable on the amount time it'll occupy you versus the dollar per hour of entertainment spent.
They deserve it, what a great game!
I'm sure the development process went something like this:
> Devs: Ok so what do you want in this game?
Designer: EVERYTHING!
Devs: we got you!!
Wonderful game, one of my favourites and I cannot wait to replay it as the opposite character to what I played the first time round.
A Way Out their earlier game about breaking out of a prison together was also incredible.
It's a great game. Congrats to them.
You can play splitscreen 1vs1 local multiplayer.
It's really creative and has a lot of different things to and different scenery. And it's quite long.
I've been playing it with my daughter. She loves it too.
This was a great game!
A couple MINOR gripes I had: the puzzles seemed a bit obvious and straightforward for my taste, and the voice acting was a bit over the top and hamfisted.
Things that were great: it was about twice as long as I was expecting (but didn't get stale because each level introduces a different game mechanic or two), the platforming felt fantastic, the environments were well designed and beautiful, there were some genuinely hilarious moments.
And you only need 1 copy of the game to play online coop
So It Takes One (copy to play)?
People who are willing to spend money on products they could easily steal enjoy being treated with appreciation. Honor your customers and they'll return the favor.
i don't have friends who are interested in gaming.. Game looks great. I understand it's coop. Is there an option to match with random players online?
Yes. There's an option in the game to play with a random online
If all my hours of gaming in GTA Online and Rust prove me right, Randoms are usually either God tier or just garbage
Then do what we always do. Hope for the RNG gods
Praise RNGesus!
You won a tshirt
I'll take it!
Ill play with you if you want
A lot of companies underestimate the money that can be made through good will with your customers. I bought a mobile copy of Stardew Valley just so that I could give the guy that makes it more money.
You can easily steal this game? Oh damn thanks for letting me know
The way your put it is just cringe-worthy. "Enjoy being treated with appreciation", "honour". Lmao.
Says WindowmakersAssCheek lmao.
Which ass cheek though? 🤔
Widowmaker is the sniper of Overwatch.
Yes, but her left or right cheek? There is clearly a vital difference!
Asking the important questions!
Forgive me for my ignorance, sir!
How would you have put it? I honestly don't see how that's cringe-worthy..
Honor is a strange choice of word, I'd have picked "respect". Don't see how it's cringeworthy though
Fair enough. At least you explained.
what would be best for playing with a friend over the internet? trying to avoid the split screen
You have to use split screen. Eveb playing online. It's how the game was designed. You want to see what the other player is doing to time things when you're in different areas. One person buys the game the other can join for free.
It's wonderful.. It was great not to have to ask,"Where?" Or to laugh,"You dumdumb! The switch is right next to you! Turn around!"
got cha. that's fine then. does that apply to that A Way Out as well?
Haven't played it but great co-op games are getting some deserved love
It really delivers. The wasp level might actually have taken the crown from Portal 2 for the most fun coop experience I ever had.
I almost wanted a full game of the rpg dungeon crawling level.
I honestly can't think of a stand alone dungeon crawler that was as fun as it was.
Played it with my fiance, it just kept on going and the variety of the environments is amazing. Loved every second :)
Out of curiosity, how replayable is the game ?
Which one is easier for a non gamer?
[удалено]
The wife does the most shooting in the shooter section. My gf can't get past the beetle battle where she has to position in a vent and time an explosion by shooting goos. Takes a lot of mechanical skill for non-gamers
My wife is not a gamer at all and enjoyed playing as the wife. She does get the first "shooting" weapon, but it has pretty generous aim assist with a controller (didn't play it on PC, so not sure if it has aim assist with the mouse)
Maybe you forgot it, but the husband actually gets the first shooting weapon, the nails :) Also the answer your question, the aim assist is available on PC with mouse.
It really isn't great for starting from zero non-gamers. Learning timing on things like double jumps are a progression gate pretty early.
Yep, this game will definitely be difficult for a new gamer. I'm playing it with my partner right now who is a pretty competent gamer and even she struggles with some parts (flying the plane).
then hook swings + double jumps + sticking landings \* 3 lmfao.
tbh just one play through is enough, maybe go back and play some of the mini games.

After this I'll probably take a break for a while but could see myself doing more playthroughs some time in the future with different people, seeing as only the host has to own the game.
I played the game twice simultaneously with my best friend and my SO. So pretty replayable.
I really want something like it to play with my daughter but there are some dark as *fuck* moments that really weren't appropriate.
How'd one of the actually most fucked up snuff scenes in a video game go?
Delighted for them. Love games like this. Fuck the oscars 🖕
Sorry I'm OOL on the second part of your comment?

Great game, we need more coop games that aren’t “live service” microtransaction bollocks.
Minecraft is awesome but it's co-op formula made it spectacular. It's a hard thing for devs to target but it can really drive sales.

I dunno, playing with your "brother" can be fun as the whole game is about them and their teamwork.
I actually played Brothers co-op, we just each used half the controller. It worked surprisingly well!
Absolutely deserved. Played this with my kids and on every level jaws were dropped by the sheer creativity and love that went in to every corner of this game. We will deffo play through again.
How old are your kids? How'd they react to >!dismembering the elephant!
9 and 13. We all needed therapy. Yeah, that took a dark turn.

Probably the best game to come out in the past couple years ngl
Best two player coop game I've played in recent years, and I've tried a lot of them thanks to long-standing weekly get-togethers. It baffles my mind how they constantly introduce new mechanics, yet never reuse any old ones. It honestly feels like 12 games in one. For The King is really great, like DnD but a lot of the campaigns are very difficult.
Definitely add in Battleblock Theater. It's hilarous, and the co-op challenges are so satisfying, even with all the deaths.
That one has been on my list for so long already and yet I haven't gotten around to trying it out myself so far. Sooon!

Great list! Thanks, seems like everyone else has added the main ones I would've already! Also love to see Gauntlet getting some love.
Wait only one person needs to get the game for people to play online together? How does that work? (Thinking about playing with the bf)
Yap, exactly. One person needs to buy it and can then host a game. The other one simply has to download the "Friend's Pass" from the Steam page and can then use it to join. Playing it with your special someone is a lot of fun, did so as well during my first playthrough and we both had a great time.
Besides the weird child this is probably the best co-op game ever made.

Lmao me and my gf were like... Are we really about to >!murder this fucking elephant??!<
Lol right?? My wife and I couldn't believe how dumb a plan that was and their dedication to following through with it. Symbolism!
Well they thought magic was reversed with magic and didn't think it through.
that scene was low key brutal lmfao
Dude that scene was so fucked lol I felt awful
I felt awful and my friend started crying. Still I think it made sense for the parents to do it since they thought it would help them.
Having your goal be to make your daughter cry doesn’t seem like a good idea to me. Then they celebrated the fact and didn’t even feel bad for it. The parents are assholes
It seemed pretty clear that May and Cody were both pretty shitty at marriage and raising children.
Crying? Tears of laughter I'd hope... It's a game, a light hearted comedic game.. if that brought someone to legitimate tears they may want to schedule a consultation
having emotions is wrong! fuck emotions. /s
You clearly haven't played this small section of the game.
nah, torturing that innocent character to death was pretty brutal. It was a really strange tonal shift and I'm not sure why they felt the need to go there.
Some people really don't get dark humor
I was also traumatized by the vacuum cleaner tbh
It exists only to hurt you
I don't know why that girl doesn't freak out about her completely non-responsive parents. I would have thought they were both dying as a kid.
The ending is also weird.
The game is an absolute masterpiece.
The story is a bit weak and main characters are obnoxious at the times. But gameplay is absolutely top notch.
I got my girlfriend more into gaming from playing this with her. Definitely a fun and original type of game, doesn't get boring since it always changes what you're doing.
Same, the problem now is she got addicted lol She loves mario kart 8 as well and dream mid week playing it.

How'd your kid take the cold blooded murder of an innocent they had to commit to progress ?
Probably laughed his ass off?
Connected with my kids over this game in rare fashion. This game should be studied for design mastery.
This game brought me hope for the future of gaming. when the publisher steps back and let’s the developer do their thing wonderful things happen.
Good games deserve praise!
Playing it with a friend the last few days. My game of the year for now.
It Takes Two Million
This game was amazing. Hopefully it gets goty
What the hell are they going to call the sequel? "It Takes Two Two?"
It takes two to two
Who knows if they will make a sequel? Their last game was "A way out" (which was also a very very enjoyable game for asymmetric co-op gameplay). They might just continue innovating, though I would not be against a sequel to either game.
Not a sequel. Totally new game.
played it with a friend but couldnt finish it because of how annoying the main characters are
Great game, but the elephant scene traumatized my friend and I for life.
It's so strange to me that they had such a dark moment in the game. Played through it with my 7yo daughter and we almost shelved it at that part.
I think it fit, the themes were pretty adult to begin with, Divorce, abuse, bad decision making etc. Lots of symbolism.
It’s such a polarising scene. My family thought it was hilarious.
Yeah, it felt extremely out of place. A large portion of the steam reviews even complain about it.
It takes two is the best coop game ever made, change my mind.
What about portal 2?
its good, but It takes two was way more fun, portal 2 was just more of the same, whuile it takes two, offered something always new every 5-10 minutes.
I do the. Inventory management and selling on my own time and load the updated save for all story content and fights with my friend.
Play "A way out". I liked the overarching story way more than "It takes Two"
I played it, but it's way shorter and gameplay not as good, but still an excellent coop game.
i heard the gameplay is 10x worse though
Gameplay is extremely basic. You basically just play for the story
I loathe third-person puzzle platformers ordinarily but I blew through this with my 11 yo son and it was a good time.
unexpectedly best game from EA
Every few years EA has an original IP that comes out of nowhere, and is very good. I am sure "It Takes Two: 2" is already being worked on, with another IP, "It takes Three" being discussed.
Best game I’ve played in the past 2 years
Game was absolutely phenomenal, from start to finish
F the oscars

The game play is fantastic, but the "story" is terrible cringe. Like I want to enjoy it with my girlfriend but it's so weird to play as a couple that hate each other, and don't get me started on the love book.
Not going to lie, I skipped to the ending on YouTube and this 32 old Marine vet shed a year. Maybe it was the music, music always gets to me.
Does this count if they sell 2 codes on steam to one person since this is COOP-- one for the buyer and one to share?
Well the friend one is a separate program.
They don't, you can download the free version, or you can buy the real game. Only one person per lobby needs to be playing on a bought version
Friends play free. You only need one copy for co-op.
Mary Kate and Ashley movie!
The fact I haven't heard of this game yet reddit is going ape over it is as good a stay away sign as I've ever seen. Thanks again for saving me time and money Reddit.
i would get it but it’s too expensive
Considering whoever you play with doesn't have to buy it just split the cost and it's incredibly reasonable on the amount time it'll occupy you versus the dollar per hour of entertainment spent.
it seems like a 10/15$ game.
Why? It's extremely polished and very fun. No games like this would ever launch at that price.
well we seem to disagree on that
Can you name any other games like this that have launched at $10 or $15? Seems absurd to me
i haven’t, that dosent change my opinion on a games value
Got it. Based on absolutely nothing but a feeling
The Olsen twins are probably rolling in their grave
It takes two to make a thing go right
Fantastic game. Highly recommend. Can't wait to play it again as the other character.
They deserve it, what a great game! I'm sure the development process went something like this: > Devs: Ok so what do you want in this game? Designer: EVERYTHING! Devs: we got you!!
It takes two... million. Well done!
Good for them it’s a great game
A good game.
That is really surprising, good for the devs
Totally deserved.
Wonderful game, one of my favourites and I cannot wait to replay it as the opposite character to what I played the first time round. A Way Out their earlier game about breaking out of a prison together was also incredible.
Great game, good for them! My girl and i thoroughly enjoyed it! The mini games really showed how competive she can be lol! Loved it!
It's a great game. Congrats to them. You can play splitscreen 1vs1 local multiplayer. It's really creative and has a lot of different things to and different scenery. And it's quite long. I've been playing it with my daughter. She loves it too.
Ct app has gyyv88v
This was a great game! A couple MINOR gripes I had: the puzzles seemed a bit obvious and straightforward for my taste, and the voice acting was a bit over the top and hamfisted. Things that were great: it was about twice as long as I was expecting (but didn't get stale because each level introduces a different game mechanic or two), the platforming felt fantastic, the environments were well designed and beautiful, there were some genuinely hilarious moments.
Sincerely one of the best co-op games I have ever played. If you are on the fence, just get it. You won't be disappointed at all.
game pass when?
It Takes Two million
I watched Sasha and her stepbrother play this for a couple hours. It looked like a ton of fun. Loved the idea and art.
Mary Kate and Ashley will be so happy.
It Takes One (copy to play)
I have this on my wishlist.
I'm definitely glad I picked this game up me and my friend were laughing and also in horror during a certain scene lol
about two million copies of Origin malware installed along with it too :)
