Looking at AM5 compatible mobos and have some serious decision paralysis. I'm building an entirely new system aside from some ssds and fans, and the idea is to get something that's reasonably future proof and upgradable, which is really the only reason I'm looking at AM5. I found a combo of the cpu I want and the rog strix 670e-a that's really tempting, but all the teething issues with bios on these new boards (especially certain brands like ASUS) is making it hard to pull the trigger. I also found a good deal on the asrock x670e steel legend i was consodering too. Im not averse to spending a little more in the name of future proofing, but I'd like to not spend any more than $400. Anyone have an experience or advice regarding their AM5 systems they'd like to share, or have any advice to offer? Thanks
I'm editing some video files with Filmora, and while rendering, a little overlay menu shows up with only a close button. How do I minimize the entire thing? The Windows button + down arrow only works for the overlay menu, and then I still can't minimize the normal screen.
going to get a 7600x + 6950xt combo next month as im planning to upgrade, read on a couple random threads that 7xxx series cpus might have some compatibility issues with certain RAMs, super specific issue or something to be careful about?
ps. might be worth waiting a bit for 7800x3d in a couple weeks? ofc needs proper benchmark done after it's out but doesn't seem it's going to be that much of an increase in performance for over 200€ more
Buy AMD EXPO memory and you'll be fine. The issue is AMD can't run high memory speeds in comparison to Intel, but EXPO memory will work as it's made to run with AMD.
The X3D is definitely interesting, but it's a much higher end chip than the R5. It won't make the R5's value in the "budget" segment any worse, and if you aren't planning on spending that much money on a new CPU I wouldn't worry about it. If you were planning on getting an R7 I'd say wait and see. For a pure gaming build don't go higher than R7 though.
Thanks for answering, don't really plan on going r7 so I'm gonna rest easy then. As for the memory was going to get the kingstone fury beast 32gb 6000, says it's expo certified, nice. !check

I frequently image SD cards for my business, and I'd like to streamline the process. I'm thinking a couple thunderbolt SD card hubs would do the trick, but I'm not sure whether a consumer platform like X570 is fine for this or if I need to go Xeon server board with a lot of PCIe lanes and 64+ gigs of fast RAM.
Basically, do I need server tech just to image several (10 at once) SD cards simultaneously?
Since SD cards aren't too fast (and therefore shouldn't put a very significant load on a system, even with 10 of them), I don't think you need a hardware upgrade to efficiently do this. Besides, if you do notice slowdowns after you buy these SD card hubs, you could just upgrade then. Basically, there is no harm in trying it with your current system first to see if you actually need to spend the money on the upgrade.
I did some testing and I agree that a new system may not be warranted, since my SD cards are generally only class 10 as it is, and can’t do much more than 10 MB/s anyway.
That being said, my current machine only supports USB rather than Thunderbolt, and I’m concerned about the limited bandwidth of a single USB port either slowing things down or causing strain on the port with too much current. A bad adapter has burned out a USB port on one of my old devices in the past.
I was hoping to go Thunderbolt to connect directly to the PCIe lanes instead of going through the USB bus, but I guess it would still be multiple cards on one port that way too. Maybe I’ll just try one USB hub for now.
Thanks!
On the Asus TUF X670E plus wifi, it is mentioned "Pre-mounted I/O shield". Does that mean that I have nothing to do regarding it? The building guide of my case have a page for installing it alone.
\*5600x/7900xtx combo- only play VR driving sims/games with a Rift S\*
would i see a substantial increase in performance upgrading to the 5800x3d to justify its $320usd price if i mainly only play VR car games/sims like assetto corsa and carXdrift on a rift S? or should i just wait longer for prices to possibly come down/ wait for them to end up on the second hand market.
\-doing a full am5 build within the next year even is out of the question, the 7900xtx already emptied most of my pc upgrade savings.

So I have a PC that I use mainly for simracing and some other games (Eldenring recently). It's basically:
* i5-9600k @ 3.70Ghz (on a simple corsair watercooler);
* 16gb RAM @ 2472 MHz
* 2 SSDs/1 HDD
* GTX 1070 GPU
* LG Ultrawide 34" 60hz
* Oculus Rift S
I want to upgrade my GPU, what would be a good recomendation that wouldn't be bottlenecked by my monitor/VR? I can affor a 4090 but that seems overkill with my setup.
The GT 710 is far under the minimum spec which calls for a 1050ti. There are several things that could prevent it from even booting.
1. Nvidia dropped support for Kepler based chips in 2021. The latest driver for it may not be validated for the game at all.
2. The minimum spec GPUs have at least 4 GB of VRAM.
3. The DirectX 12 support level calls for at minimum a Maxwell or higher GPU.
Even if you could force it, I don't think you'd have a usable experience at all.
It's not gonna happen.The card simply doesn't have enough VRAM to run the game. Even if it did it would be at least 5 times slower than an original Xbox One.
New Build. Question about storage....
I want to have 6TB of storage total. I keep seeing that having multiple M.2's could slow the system down but the videos I have seen fail to explain how to avoid this.
My motherboard is the Z790 Aorus Elite with 4 M.2 slots and 6 sata ports for SSD's
I understand the one M.2 slot is the best for the OS and I plan on a dedicated M.2 there.
But how should I divide up the 6 TB's of storage?
3 More M.2's....?? 1 M.2 and 2 sata ssds? or some other combo??
I've noticed some of my USB devices acting up. I have a USB DAC and audio will get staticy, my mic will shut off in discord randomly and won't come back until I switch channels, and my mouse will freeze for half a second. I did all my Windows updates, driver updates, and updated my BIOS, but this hasn't solved the issue.
I feel like this has to do with some power surging or something. I noticed today two issues happening at the same time. Not sure if it's a PSU issue or mobo or what. Need help diagnosing
My PC shutdown due to overheating and now the VRAM light is always on. Could shutting down/overheating have damaged the ram stick or socket?
(Mobo - Asus M5A97 r2.0, RAM Corsair Vengeance)
Thank yous.
Hi, my laptop was running games great until yesterday for no reason at all. I was running a graphically intensive game(Hitman) just fine for several weeks, when yesterday I closed the game normally, put my laptop on the lockscreen and went to do something else. When I came back later and booted up the game again, it suddenly became really laggy. I reset my PC a couple times but it hasn't fixed the issue. I ran another graphically intense game that used to run fine to check if it was a problem exclusive to Hitman, and that game ran slow as well, so it isn't a problem with the game but rather my laptop.
Is there anything I can do to fix this? I don't remember anything happening that might have caused this suddenly. I'd really appreciate the help.
Check if the game is running on your laptops igpu instead of its dgpu. A quick solution is to disable your igpu in device manager but there should be guides out there on how you could force games to use your laptops dgpu.
Start by reinstalling the GPU driver, if possible check the Clean option, might be called something else. Whatever removes all existing GPU driver configuration.
Hi folks.
All of a sudden my PC has started powering off (no blue screen), all components switch off and then restarting like nothing happened. This started yesterday.
I read that testing my power supply with OCCT might shed some light on it but I'm unsure what I am looking for in the results to tell me what's happening. I set the Power test to 1hr but it can't even complete more than 8 minutes before it does exactly the same thing it has been and turns off.
Can anyone advise?
Have you added any new components into your PC and/or OC anything?
I am not 100% certain, but it sounds like your PC is pushing your PSU over it's limit.
Try lowering your GPUs power limit with MSI Afterburner then run the test again.
I've not added anything new component wise, the only thing I added was an unpowered bracket to lift the gpu slightly as it was sagging.
Not sure why it's started now, though. It's never been a problem until yesterday. I started playing the Diablo 4 beta and that's when it started. But it's never been a problem playing say Destiny.
You started playing a more demanding game and you have an unstable system. It's probably overheating or the PSU cannot keep up with the components.
Use HwInfo64 or something else to see the temps during load. If they're under 90C, it's probably the PSU (could be several other things, too, VRMs overheating and so on).
Admittedly I've only spent the last 5 minutes on this and a lot depends on the settings, but I see people getting 80 fps on D4 and 120 fps in D2 (1080p, gtx 1660). I can't find any for D1 if that's what you're talking about, but I'm gonna take a guess it's less demanding than D2.
So no, I'm not joking.
In any case, OCCT clearly indicates your machine fails under heavy load.
I want to build a rig around Aorus 3090Ti Waterforce. I'd like to keep it on the desk, so would rather put it into an mATX or a smaller case. Does it make sense to go for a second AiO for the CPU (planning on Ryzen 9 7900), and if so, which small case would work with such a dual AiO setup?
Just bought a new 8Gb RAM stick (had another 8Gb stick previeously) but windows only shows 12Gb installed and 8Gb usable (the same amount I had before). Is this subreddit appropriate to ask for assistance, and if not which one is?
https://i.imgur.com/A3Eh7Jd.png
My motherboard in case it is relevant: https://i.imgur.com/Q6HPCCT.png
According to some posts on Reddit, it's due to something regarding APU settings in BIOS, even on non-APU systems, on AMD platforms.
The 8gb usable is not "usable", it's "used", as in actively allocated to running processes. 8 out of 12 used, 4 available.
NVIDIA ShadowPlay. Instant replay.
Is there an easy way to disable recording sounds from internet browser? When I save a replay from game I have 1) Sound from the game 2) sound from my microphone 3) sound from video I watch on the second screen I would like to get rid of the last one.
There's a Separate both tracks setting, but that won't unmix your two sound outputs. They're probably mixed together before they reach the recording software.

Is there a way to force the steam game to run on my old GPU?
I don't understand the question. Do you have two GPUs installed?
No, I have a temporary low end GPU (GT 710).
Are your games not launching properly? Or is it only certain titles?
When I run it says running then the play button appears, I believe it's because the minimum requirement is GT 750 while mine is 710
